Lemon juice can boost immunity, aid weight loss, improve digestion and clear up the skin – Firstpost

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade! This popular saying is quite apt for any day of the week. Just lemons, water and honey, whats not to love? This tasty, low cost, easy to make drink is considered to be great for ones health.

Whether its helping in weight loss or being good for the skin, everything we know about lemons goes under the pros column. Many doctors, nutritionists, dermatologists and beauty experts recommend drinking lemon water every day. But is there another side to lemons? And since too much of anything is a bad thing, how much is too much when it comes to lemons?

Lets first look at all the benefits of lemon juice before answering that:

Representational image. Wikimedia Commons

1. Boost immunity

Lemons are a great source of vitamin C. According to the US Department of Agriculture, one lemon provides 8.6 mg of vitamin C. The daily vitamin C requirement of an adult is 70 to 90 mg.

Vitamin C is a great antioxidant which controls free radical cell damage. From preventing common cold and acne to decreasing the risk of cardiovascular diseases, strokes and regulating blood pressure, it has many important functions.

2. Aids weight loss

One lemons juice contains only six calories. Say, you squeeze half a lemon into a glass of water and add a spoonful of honey for extra yumminess, that takes you to about 23 calories. Compare this with one small bottle of cola which contains about 182 calories. Replacing these sweet beverages with lemon water can help you to lose weight as you will end up consuming fewer calories.

3. Inhibits kidney stones

Lemons are high in citrate which not only inhibits the formation of kidney stones but also helps break them down. Studies have shown that drinking 120 ml of lemon juice in two litres of water successfully reduced the rate of kidney stone formation.

Other fruit juices like orange juice are low in citrate and contain calcium and oxalate. These factors stimulate stone formation as most kidney stones are calcium oxalate stones.

4. Good for digestion

Lemon water not only keeps us hydrated but also slows down the absorption of food and makes sure that the body successfully breaks down the nutrients it needs.

5. Keeps gums healthy

As scurvy is caused by a deficiency of vitamin C, consumption of lemon juice helps in preventing it. Swelling and bleeding of gums and loosening of teeth are the symptoms of scurvy. Lemon juice helps maintain healthy gums and a beautiful smile.

Side effects of lemon juice

Since lemons are acidic, people who have gastric stress or extreme acid reflux should avoid lemons. The citric acid in lemon juice is not good for our teeth enamel, so do not exceed the 120 ml daily limit. There no scientific proof to show that lemons are bad for our bone health.

Lemonade every day?

Drinking lemonade every day is a very healthy habit, just don't overdo it. Too much lemon can also be a bad thing. Squeeze two lemons in two litres of water, add a pinch of rock salt or table salt, and you are good to go. It keeps you hydrated, your heart and stomach healthy, it is great for your skin and hair and helps you to lose weight too.

Monomoy Girl back in training with ‘good bottom’ of fitness – Horse Racing Nation

Photo: Bee Buck Photography

Crow -- a manager for the partnership consisting of Monomoy Stables, Michael Dubb, the Elkstone Group, and Bethlehem Stables -- said Monomoy Girl has been cleared for jogging and light tack work at Paul Sharp's Williston, Fla., Farm, where she was broken and did her initial pre-training.

The daughter of Tapizar has not returned to the starting gate since her victory in the 2018 Breeders' Cup Distaff at Churchill Downs. She missed time the first half of this year due to colic before a muscle strain prevented a 4-year-old comeback later in the season.

Shes doing very well. Shes happy down here, Crow said. So far, no issues. She had pulled a hamstring. Dr. Wes Sutter been the one in charge of her recovery. He has looked at her multiple times and gave us the go-ahead to put her back in training.

Crow said Monomoy Girl should continue her work at the farm until January.

As far as race targets, "Really, you're just kind of shooting in the dark

Monomoy Girl shows a record of 9-for-11. She has been beaten across the wire just once, as a 2-year-old in Churchill Downs' Golden Rod (G2). At 3, she nearly went undefeated, suffering a loss only when placed second in Parx's Cotillion (G1) for veering in the stretch.

Major targets as an older filly were put on hold in April but suffered no longterm effects due to her colic episode.

Monomoy Girl took time to recover and returned to breezing in the fall.

And then she pulled a muscle in her hamstring her last breeze before running," Crow said, as one prep was planned before a defense of the Distaff, "so we were very close to getting her back into the starting gate. Obviously with a muscle strain you have to go easy with them and give them plenty of time to get over it on their own.

Crow posted a video Thursday of Monomoy Girl taking a roll at the farm, adding that,Everyone on her team is very happy with how she looks right now.

New Tightsqueeze gym aims to fill need for fitness facility in county – GoDanRiver.com

TIGHTSQUEEZE Daniel Rogers had dreamed and talked about opening a gym for 15 years.

That dream became a reality three weeks ago when the 33-year-old, along with wife MaryBeth, 26, opened R3 Fitness in Tightsqueeze.

[MaryBeth] told me to either stop talking about it or do it, he said.

On their first day, 105 new customers signed up as members. Customers flocked to them from Blairs, Chatham and Gretna. A few even came from Danville.

The couple, both longtime locals who attended Chatham High School, chose the area to set up shop because of a problem they faced. For the past several years, they had to drive nearly half an hour to get to a gym.

Many of their customers faced the same experience, souring them on the idea of going to a gym at all.

Altavista has a YMCA and Danville has a number of gyms, but for the last several years there have not been many good options between the two.

We wanted to take peoples excuse away ... convenience is the biggest thing, MaryBeth Rogers said.

Adam Lumpkins, who lives in Climax, had stopped going to the gym because the closest ones were more than half an hour away from his house. Now that he is a member at R3, he can be at the gym in less than 10 minutes.

In addition to the distance, he said the gyms round-the-clock hours are a major part of the appeal.

Being able to come and go as you please is excellent, he said.

With the amount of people who work varied shifts at such companies as Goodyear, keeping the gym open 24 hours was a priority for the couple.

The name R3 which stands for three Rogers, to include their 1-year-old daughter, Claire Rogers is meant to be simple, memorable and mean something. Daniel Rogers said when people ask them what will happen when they have another child, he replies he will be excluded from the name and it will refer to his wife and children.

Another goal was for the gym to be a friendly atmosphere where everyone, even those without previous experience working out, can be comfortable.

We just wanted to make it simple and not intimidating, MaryBeth Rogers said.

In addition to their new enterprise, both work other jobs as well, with Daniel Rogers teaching drivers education and physical education at Chatham High School and MaryBeth Rogers working part time at the Olde Dominion Agricultural Complex.

Customer Michael Yates lives in Blairs and works in Lynchburg, so he has made a habit of going to R3 Fitness on his way to work.

Before, he had to drive in the opposite direction of his work.

Theres a lot of options, equipment wise, he said. You can hit every muscle group as good as anywhere else.

A variety of cardio machines, free weights and strength training machines fill the space in the building next to Food Lion that had been vacant for the past eight years.

With this being the first business they own, the Rogers said the custodial aspect of running a business cleaning the facility, keeping up with finances, etc. has been the biggest adjustment.

In the future, they hope to expand the operation to include space for child care and classes.

The communitys happy and thats what we care about the most, MaryBeth Rogers said.

Adam Lumpkins, who lives in Climax, said that it used to take him 35 minutes to get to the nearest gyms in Danville and Altavista. With R3 Fitness in Tightsqueeze, he can be at the gym in less than 10 minutes.

MaryBeth and Daniel Rogers said the gym has become sort of a second home for their daughter, Claire.

MaryBeth (left) and Daniel (right) Rogers sit with their 1-year-old daughter, Claire, in the office of their new gym, R3 Fitness, which is named after their three person family.

Michael Yates lifts weights at R3 Fitness, a gym that opened in Tightsqueeze three weeks ago. For him, the 24 hour access for members is the best part.

Ayers reports for the Register & Bee. Reach him at (434) 791-7981.

Fitness Model Found Shot In The Head, Repeatedly Stabbed In Her Home – Oxygen

A 23-year-old Mexican fitness model was found brutally murdered in her Tijuana home Sunday night.

Alondra Getsemani Villaseor had been shot in the head and stabbed several times, according to the Herald of Mexico.

Her body was discovered by her mother, who had gone to check on her daughter after she was unable to reach her on the phone.

Authorities believe that Villaseorwho had worked at a local gym and as a fitness modelhad been dead for more than 24 hours when she was discovered.

Investigators found a 9-millimeter cap and two small bags that contained what appeared to be marijuana at the scene, according to Notimex.

Witnesses reported seeing someone in a red vehicle flee the area; however, no arrests have been made in the case as of yet.

Villaseors Facebook page is filled with images of happier times as the 23-year-old worked out at the gym or happily posed around the city.

Her death is the latest in a string of murders of women in the area, the Herald of Mexico reports.

Tijuana has seen almost 1,800 murders this year, according to a report earlier this month from The Guardian that called Tijuana one of the worlds most deadly cities. In 2018, the number of murders reached 2,518.

Experts have speculated that much of the violence canbe attributed to a dispute about Tijuanas drug trade.

Its devastating what is happening here, a man who asked to remain anonymous told the news outlet. It is out of control.

These Are the 8 Most Important Fitness Trends of the Year – ISPO

The conclusion for fitness centres is clear. The demands towards gym are becoming more and more individualand more specific. Studios that offer their members a wide range of services will thus be far ahead of the competition.

This diversity is also part of the Fitness Trends 2020, because those who want to increase their performance in the coming year will do so with several sports. Only strength training and jogging are out. Recently mindbody.io confirmed this insight in the annual report "Fitness in America". Yoga, Zumba, Spinning, Aerobics, Crossfit, HIIT, Kickboxing, Pilates, Martial Arts are among the most popular sports that Americans do in gyms. This trend is sloshing more and more into Germany.

The fitness enthusiast wants to use all body parts and muscles comprehensively. And if possible improve his mental well-being. Industry experts assume that basics such as workouts, swimming lessons and cycling will be part of every gym's offering. If you want to be one of the hottest locations, it is best to have yoga, dance and meditation classes available.

These Are the Top 10 Fitness Trends for 2020 – Bicycling

Its that time of year again, when the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) polls thousands of health and fitness professionals around the globe to peer into the crystal ball and identify the top fitness trends for the following year.

This is the 14th year for the ACSM survey, and many of the hot trends, such as HIIT and group training, for 2020 have been along for the ride since the beginning. Cyclists have been at the pointy end of fitness trends like HIIT training, wearable tech, and employing certified professionals since long before such surveys existed. But its worth noting that there are other consistent (and important) trends more cyclists would be wise to hop on.

So without further ado, here are the top 10 fitness trends for 2020 and what they mean for you.

[Want to fly up hills? Climb! gives you the workouts and mental strategies to conquer your nearest peak.]

Hiring a fitness professional debuted on the trend list at #6 last year, and holds its position in the top 10 for 2020. For cyclists, this means hiring a coachsomething I recommend all serious cyclists try at least once.

Ive been USA Cycling certified coach myself for about two decades and I still hire a coach to help me nail my goals. And I can say unequivocally, all of my best results are a direct result of working with and listening to some really great coaches.

Good coaches do more than just write training plansyou can download those online for a few bucks. Theyre a confidante, someone you can share your goals and insecurities with who will help you cut through the clutter and be the best bike rider you can be. They eliminate the guesswork and make you accountable for getting your training done.

And coming in at #9more coaching! Health and wellness coaching is different from cycling coaching in that its not focused on exercise performance, but rather helping you live a healthier life overall.

Wellness coaches can help you deal with stress, improve your mindset, find balance, and make healthy lifestyle changes (say, like riding more) stick.

Only you can say if you would benefit from a health and wellness coach (and its possible that a multi-faceted cycling coach could pull double duty here). But if you consistently struggle to make behavioral changes that would improve your emotional and physical well-being, it might be worth a try.

No surprise here. People are living longer and remaining active for many more years than past generations. And the more fit you stay into your later years, the more years youre likely to live. One study found that those with the highest levels of fitness at age 75 were more than twice as likely to live another 10 years or more compared to those with poorer fitness.

Because cycling is gentle on the joints, its easy to do for a very long time. But thats not to say that we dont face challenges with age. Science shows that metabolism changes, making it easier to gain weight and lose muscle, as we get older. Recovery takes longer, too. That means you need to keep up the intensity to maintain muscle and top-end fitness, and take proper care to bounce back from those efforts. So if youre in your 50s, 60s, 70s, or beyond, make sure the trainers and/or coaches you work with understand the nuances of working with someone your age.

Bodyweight training, which, just as it sounds, means using your own body to perform resistance training has been among the top trends since it hit the charts at #3 in 2013. And with good reason: You dont need a gym membership or special equipment to build strength, and you can get a good workout wherever you are.

Body weight training is particularly helpful for cyclists during prime riding season, when you may be reluctant to use precious riding time to go to the gym. Some push-ups, squats, and core moves can help keep you strong in the saddle without worrying about hitting the weights.

Exercise is Medicine (EIM) is a global health initiative that encourages primary care doctors and other health-care providers to include physical activity assessment as part of their care and to include exercise recommendations and referrals to fitness professionals as part of standard care.

A doctors note for a bike ride a day? Sounds like good medicine to us.

Andersen RossGetty Images

Its easy to be a little skeptical about personal training being the top trend (as it has been since the survey first published in 2006) on a list generated by fitness professionals. But personal training works, and it continues to evolve overtime to meet changing demands.

For cyclists, a few sessions with a personal trainer can help you feel comfortable and confident in your off-season strength training and in-season maintenance work. Today, mobile apps make personal training more effective and efficient than ever. You can meet with your trainer to do your assessments and cover the basics. Then, you can do the rest via fitness apps like True Coach that allow you to track progress, communicate with your trainer, and watch videos of exercises you cant remember when youre at the gym and your trainer isnt around.

Jacobs Stock Photography LtdGetty Images

Training with free weights like barbells, kettlebells, dumbbells, and medicine balls is a hot and growing trend right now, largely thanks to the rising popularity of functional and CrossFit style workouts and gyms.

World-class professional cyclists like Kate Courtney and Peter Sagan have put to rest any worries that weight training and cycling dont mix. Free weights recruit all your major and minor muscles, improve your balance and proprioception, and help build boneall things that will make you better on your bike.

Technically defined as more than five participants, group training is just that: a group of people led through a fitness routine by an instructor. The idea is to motivate people to move by making exercise fun and social.

Cyclists are all about that. In fact, we love group training so much we even have a special word for a pack of us: peloton, which not coincidentally is the name of one of the most popular group training workouts on the planet. If you tend to be a lone wolf on the bike, try a group ride for 2020. Youll be glad you did.

Thomas BarwickGetty Images

HIIT, which is a workout that involves short bursts of high intensity exercise followed by a short period of rest, has been a chart-topper since 2014, when it was the #1 trend of the year. HIIT doesnt just make you fit, but also boosts brain health, tames stress, improves body composition, and fends off a host of chronic diseases.

As a cyclist, you should absolutely be doing HIIT training. Even if you never sprint for a finish line in your life, HIIT training will help boost your endurance performance so every ride feels easier and you can hum along longer and stronger without hitting the wall.

Caiaimage/Richard JohnsonGetty Images

If you heard the news that Google is buying Fitbit for a cool $2.1 billion, it will come as no surprise that wearable technology is the #1 fitness trend for 2020. Wearable technology includes fitness trackers, smart watches, heart rate monitors, and GPS tracking devices. Its a $95 billion industry and shows no signs of slowing.

Cyclists, of course, are not new to any of this. Weve been routinely strapping on heart rate monitors since Kurt Cobain was singing about teen spirit and wont roll out of the parking lot without recording the ride. Were also early adopters to new cutting-edge wearable tech like the Whoop Strap, which dig further into our physiology to track heart rate variability, sleep, and recovery.

If youve never tried wearable tech, and well, Im not sure theres one of you out there, its well worth investing in at least a heart rate monitor, which not only can help you track your training progress, but also can alert you to underlying health issues before they cause trouble.

The Best Fitness Gifts: ClassPass Forecasts The Top Workout Trends And Products For 2020 – Forbes

Fritz Lanman and Payal Kadakia of ClassPass

Whether youre a die-hard loyalist to your current gym (in fact, half your closet consists of their merch) or prefer hopping from studio to studio (Liftonic today, BollyX tomorrow), its always helpful to know the latest trends in exercise, wellness and health.

ClassPasspartners with more than 25,000 boutique studios and gyms worldwide to create their monthly subscription, so its safe to say the company has their pulse on whats trending across every corner of the fitness industry. This year, the startup added wellness experiences to its membership offerings, including massages, meditation, saunas, cryotherapy and more.

We met with Payal Kadakia, founder and chairman ofClassPass, and Fritz Lanman, CEO, to get their insider perspective on the future of fitness and wellnessand the biggest trends we should expect in 2020.

More thanone in three business travelers worldwidewill add at least one personal component to a business trip this year, and more companies are addingwellness programsto their benefits suites. The convergence of these two trends means that its easier to stay fit while traveling for both work and leisure. Its also a fantastic way to explore a new city.

Attending boutique fitness classes anywhere from Singapore to London to Memphis is one of my favorite ways to experience the unique flavor of a city, said Kadakia. Its not only fun; its also a great way to see new parts of the city, connect with locals and studio owners and learn about cool new trends that are emerging in one part of the world but havent yet made their way to LA or NY.

BEIS

The water-resistant fabric lining and bottom shoe compartment will make it easier for you to pack your gym essentials for your next work trip or getaway.

High-intensity interval training sessions are some of the trendiest classes of the year.ClassPassdata shows that HIIT classes, as well as boxing classes and strength training, have climbed the charts in popularity both before and after work.

Megaformer Pilates is also a growing trend. The zero-impact, full-body workout involves taking as few reps as possible without a break in order to focus on strength, balance and alignment. So far in 2019,ClassPassusers have already attended over a million megaformer classes, marking a 38.6% year-over-year increase in reservations at studios such as BodyRokandCore40.

Tory Sport

Inspired by gym uniforms from the 1970s, Tory Sport's latest activewear (which was unveiled at a fashion meets fitness workout at NYFW 2019) is lightweight and designed for low to medium-impact workouts. The cross-back allows for a full-range of motion for pilates or boxing workouts yet maintains support.

Dont be surprised in 2020 if more of your friends suggest meeting up for a boxing class before brunch.

Also, the gym is no longer just a quick stop between work and home. Group classes have now replaced happy hour as the perfect opportunity to catch up with friends in a healthier setting, and data proves that social workouts keep you accountable.People are 26% less likely to cancel a workout if it means inconveniencing a friend and are 25% more likely to test out a new type of exercise if they bring a friend along, says Lanman. His team has added new social features to the ClassPass app that make it easy toshare completed workouts with friends and plan new classes together.

Whether youre competing against a friend in an intense 45-minute cycling class at the Peloton studio or gritting your teeth through an OrangeTheory class, working out has become social.

Society 9

Wrapping up your hands then lacing up your gloves can eat up time. These gloves come with "Lace and Loops" which are designed to allow you to self-lace your own boxing gloves so that you can make it to work on time.

More gyms and studios are taking active steps to help people of all ages and fitness levels reach their goals and feel included and good about themselves while doing so.

When I startedClassPassyears ago, boutique fitness classes were a new trend, so most of the people who attended them were fitness enthusiasts like myself, says Kadakia. Today, independent fitness studios and many gyms are broadening their offerings so that everyone of every age, body type and fitness level feels encouraged and supported.

If youre just getting started on your fitness journey, consider looking for an impactful but welcoming class such as yoga or consider a class like trampolining that will feel more like play and less like work. Theres a class out there for everyone.

Lululemon

This featherweight, breathable top is completely seamless to keep you comfy and prevent chafing. You dont need to worry about your sweat or scent, since it features technology to prevent odor-causing bacteria from forming on the shirt.

Long gone are the days when people adhered to the same, structured fitness routine day in and day out. ClassPassdata shows that a majority of its members attend at least ten different studios and gyms within their first year. People are more likely than ever to engage in a range of activities because they want their workouts to feel fun, dynamic and less like workouts, commented Lanman.

Create & Cultivate

Stay on top of your goals and keep all your meetups and workouts organized in a planner. This 2020 calendar includes a #BOSSboard section where you can brainstorm and sketch your plans after a creativity-sparking workout.

Its increasingly popular to take a midday class, according toClassPassdata. With workplaces relaxing their lunch policies and more people working remotely, lunchtime workouts are on the rise, especially at workplaces that offer convenient on-site options orcorporate wellness benefits.

The always-on generation is pushing back and saying I that may always be online, but that doesnt mean Im always reachable. If you want me to perform my best, I need the freedom to escape for a quick midday refreshbe it in the form of yoga, HIIT or power cycling, said Kadakia.

Two added benefits are making this trend more viable: 1) an increase in workplaces permitting relaxed wardrobes, and 2) an increase in studios offering shorter express classes so members have the opportunity to work out, eat and still be back at their desk within an hour. Many of this years popular new gyms offer classes that are only 45 minutes in length; and in fact platform-wideClassPassusers were 33% more likely to book a 45-minute or shorter class in 2018 than they were in 2017.

Everlane

If you work out before or in the middle of your workday, the work clothes you wear are just as important as your workout ensemble. Youll need low-maintenance yet appropriate office staples that are easy to slip in and out of. These pants are made of comfortable four-way stretch cotton, yet have a side zipper and seam details that add a touch of polish to your outfit.

For decades, gyms and exercise equipment providers and studios focused on one singular component of fitness: weight loss. Today, mainstream fitness goals are as multifaceted as the people working toward them.

Just as every soul is different, so are their needs for nourishment. Ive met tons ofClassPassmembers who work out to overcome health issues, breakups and even unbelievable grief, said Kadakia. Their stories inspire us and fuel our excitement about coming to work every day. We expect more fitness entrepreneurs and instructors to design classes and experiences that help people to find the physical and emotional balance they seekwhether its to cope with a bad boss, spark some creativity or to train for their next Iron Man.

Rhone

Your workout is a great time for digital detoxing. But if you aren't ready to leave your phone at home or even in your locker, Rhone makes workout shorts for men that are designed with a front media pocket that fits most small and medium-size phones. Put your phone away and find balance during your next workout.
