Winter is coming, and it feels supremely convenient to sit on your Iron Throne a.k.a. the couch, and wait the chilly season out, indoors. Despite your weight-loss resolutions and that expensive gym membership, you cannot magically lose weight if you decide to hibernate this winter. While becoming a blanket wrapped human burrito sounds tempting, you will be entering the New Year with zero motivation and a lot of extra pounds.Weight loss story: This guy lost a whopping 40 kilos in less than 8 months! Here's how he did it!Which is why there is no excuse good enough to stop taking care of yourself and remaining fit; not even a minus three degree outside. It is crucial to stay in shape and remain fit, no matter the climatic conditions around you. So here are a few easy tips and tricks to keep your weight loss routine going during winters: Fun Indoor Workout- We get it, waking up at six and going for your usual morning run in the freezing cold does not sound like a good idea. You would rather be curled up in bed, and frankly, so you should. However, just because you cannot step outside, does not mean you cannot work (out) from home. Even if you have zero equipment at home, you can always spice up your routine by trying out fun new workout options like Zumba. Just put in 30-45 minutes every day, and you will not have to worry about not fitting into your party clothes. Moderation Is Key- Winter is a time for festivities and merry-making. Youll be attending multiple house parties where family and friends will be pressuring you to stuff your mouth with food until you physically cannot anymore. It will be hard to say no to the delicious spread, but the good news is, you dont have to. Just remember to eat in moderation. Make sure you havent starved yourself all morning only to feast at the party. Just eat in small quantities all day, thereby reducing the chance of overeating at the party. Remember To Stay Hydrated- One cannot stress enough on the importance of drinking water every day, and its associated health benefits. Being hydrated enables better digestion and reduces the risk of cramping up after any strenuous exercise. Additionally, most people mistake dehydration for hunger and go on to overeat to get rid of that feeling. By simply drinking enough water, your appetite will be in control and you will automatically feel satisfied and full.Dance The Night Away- Winter parties are the perfect time to show off your dance moves, and there is no better exercise than dancing. Ditch the corner seat at the bar for the dance floor, and you will definitely notice a change in your appearance. Bust out those moves, sweat it out in the club, and enjoy the natural red glow on your cheeks. Even if you do not have any plans to head out, you can always dance at home like no one is watching, because no one is. Hope this helps. Tell us what your winter workout plans look like.DISCLAIMER: "This article is exclusively produced for The Times of India Healthy India, Fit India initiative by our partner, Healthian to spread awareness on the importance of preventive health care"

Teddi Mellencamp Gets Candid About Body Image In Before-And-After Weight Loss Photos – msnNOW

Teddi Mellencamp / Instagram 'The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' star Teddi Mellencamp shared before-and-after Thanksgiving photos to Instagram to share her weight loss wisdom.
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Teddi Mellencamp is all about documenting her weight loss journey on her Instagram and inspiring followers along the way. She previously opened up to Women's Health about her 80-pound weight loss and what it took for her to get there.
Now, in her latest Instagram, she shared side-by-side photos of herself at two different Thanksgiving celebrations. There's more to the photos than her physical appearance, though. Teddi also opened up about how her health and eating habits made her feel at the time.
Teddi wrote in the caption: "The pic on the left was a Thanksgiving where I had a chip on my shoulder and many more in my mouth. I didnt want to socialize or interact with family & friends because I was uncomfortable in my own skin. On the right, how I now celebrate the holidays: active, engaged and laughing nonstop. Appreciating those around me instead of worrying about how I can conceal my third piece of pie."
She added that she needed to re-evaluate many things, and that holidays can be a real struggle. "It took me going all in to realize that sitting on the sidelines isnt worth it; being in the game is so much more fun. Is there something you worry/fear during the holidays that get in your way? Let me know below, and lets create a way to push past them so you can enjoy your season to the max," she ended her post.
Teddi, who's currently expecting her third child, has talked about struggling with fad diets in the past. "I did everything from cleanses to the cookie diet. I even did the HCG diet, which involved getting weekly injections of what I hoped was actually HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin hormone), which supposedly would help boost my metabolism so I could lose weight quicker," she wrote in an article for Women's Health. "To be truthful, some of the diets did actually work. I lost weight, although it wasnt in a healthy way, and I had to keep jumping from one crazy, restrictive plan to the next to keep it off."
Eventually, she found success through finding fitness, addressing her emotional eating, and learning about good nutrition. And she also started her company, All In, to help other women. Teddi told Women's Health, "I want to give every woman that system of commitment and 24/7 accountability that will help them be successful with their health goals."

Gemma Collins and Arg vow to lose weight before having baby after fluctuating by 39 stone after years of – The Sun

GEMMA Collins and James 'Arg' Argent have confirmed their on/off romance is finally back on track with a romantic trip away in Dubai - and pals say they are planning to wed and try for a baby.
Gemma and Arg are both in the happiest place theyve been in a long time and finally feel as if they can start planning their future together," a source close to the couple told the Sun Online.

Gemmas gushed to pals how Arg is close to putting a ring on her finger and theyve even been discussing having a big spring wedding so they can start trying for a family in the next few months.
Hes promised he wont let her down again and wants to get at least 6st off before they tie the knot so he can look and feel his best and be in shape for their baby.
While it looks like their fairy tale ending could be in sight, it's been a rocky road.
The couple have admitted that the stress of their bitter splits has put a strain on their relationship and their health, with their joint weight fluctuating by 39 stone since 2012.
Following their most recent break-up last month, Gemma, 38, admitted the stress had caused her to comfort eat, saying: I havent stopped eating with the stress and upset of everything.
And Arg, 31, recently opened up about his eating disorder battle after being told by This Mornings Dr Ranj Singh he needed to lose 10st, saying When Im in a bad place I binge eat, and when I put on weight it triggers more issues.
The pair are said to be working together to get to their healthiest and happiest ever, and Gemma recently stunned fans with her "skinny appearance".
22
The couple have both admitted they often turn to food for emotional comfort in times of stress - and their yo-yoing weight over the years has reflected turmoil in their personal lives.
In her autobiography, Gemma revealed she was a slender size ten as a teenager but several heartbreaks led weight to balloon from 11st to 18st within a year.
"I went from being a thin girl who never had a weight problem and was a constant size 10 to a girl who couldn't stop growing," she says.

When Gemma's first started dating Arg in 2012,she was left devastated when she found out he had been talking about her weight behind her back.
It was then meme queen Gemma coined one of her earliest catchphrases.
She confronted him in a furious showdown at a Towie pool party - in front of a stunned cast.
Take a look at this, she declared, peeling off her pink wrap to reveal her swimsuit-clad figure. You aint ever going to get this candy. Im sexy and I know it.
As Arg tried to win her back over by calling her pretty, Gemma retorted: You think Im pretty but Im too fat [for you] to go out with me James.
Clearly hurt by his size jibes, she added: I might not be a size 10, but Ive got a good heart, before publicly dumping him.

Arg then reunited with Lydia for a short time, and Gemma dated ex-fiance Rami Hawash, so it seemed to be over for good.
But when she split with Rami, in 2014, she once more turned to food and, at her heaviest, tipped the scales at 21st.
But in 2015, she dropped an impressive 3st by spending a month in a juice camp.
Ive done every diet out there, theres nothing I havent done," she told Good Morning Britain.
I was obsessed with food. And life revolved around food and eating. There was no brain space in my head for me not to think about food, it was a living nightmare.
At the same time Arg was ballooning in weight and battling drug problems, checking himself into rehab after being suspended from Towie for failing a cocaine test - where he lost a whopping four stone.
"It wasn't just learning about my problems it was learning to love myself," he said. "Now I know if you eat rubbish, you feel like rubbish. It's a vicious circle and it brings you down."

By 2017, the year the couple hooked up again, both were facing fresh battles with weight.
Gemma, who is desperate to be a mum, was devastated to be told her extra pounds could mean she had a low egg count.
I'm not saying I'll get to a size 10 but I do need to lose weight. For my health I wouldn't want to be bigger than I am now," she told the Sun.
Meanwhile Arg was once again in rehab, in Thailand, where he lost over a stone in weight by practising Thai boxing, abseiling and zip lining."

While Arg made a public declaration of love for Gemma at his December 2017 birthday party, they didn't became an official item until April 2018.
Things seemed to be going well at the beginning of this year, when Gemma competed in Dancing On Ice.
Emotionally stable, she managed to lose over two stone - and revealed she was desperate to lose weight so she could have a boob reduction.
She told the Sun: "I'd be really happy if I lost six stone as that would bring me down to 12 stone and a size 16."
"My boobs are so big and I want to get them reduced in January, but I have to lose three stone before they can operate."
But in August, she revealed she had put a stone back on while on holiday in Greece after ditching "flab-a-jab" injections that suppress the appetite.
"Before I went away I was taking it every day and I did lose two stone," she told Good Morning Britain.
"It's fantastic, but like everything, don't expect a miracle cure, you cannot inject a jab and then be eating burgers and chips and pizzas. You have to apply yourself."
But in the same month, Arg - who has been steadily gaining weight all year - used Gemma's weight against her when he uploaded a video of her snoring on social media, before allegedly bombarding her with messages saying: You are a fat joke of a woman, and Who the f*** do you think you are? Youve got more rolls than Greggs.
22
22
22
After signing up to swim the English channel for the TV show, Sink or Swim, 31-year-old Arg revealed he's hit his heaviest ever after putting on ten stone in two years, weighing in at 24st.
"I could become ill or die. The swim is an opportunity to sort my life out. The swim is an opportunity to sort my life out.
He managed to drop 3st on the show, causing Gemma to reveal his extra bulk had been 'ruining' their sex life.
I can notice the difference in you. I can get my arms around you now when I cuddle you in bed," she said.
And when you love someone its not about their size or whatever, but we cant be as we used to be in the bedroom. We cant, no offence.
Although she forgave Arg for the insults, drug battles have cast a shadow over the romance.
Just last month Gemma reportedly called 999 over concerns Arg had overdosed, as her fears drugs would kill him were revealed.
The drama came after the star was dropped from Towie in May after testing positive for cocaine.
Gemma reportedly ended things again, earlier this year, when he refused to go to rehab and admitted she "had to stop eating" after turning to comfort food to get through.

Gemmas recent skinny appearance has inspired Arg to get in shape, and according to pals, hes impressed with her new found confidence.
Our source says: Gemmas confidence has soared over the last few months with her weight loss and all the attention shes been getting.
Its made Arg see a different side of her, and inspired him to embark on the same path and join her new healthy lifestyle.
Arg has done a lot of soul-searching over the past few weeks and hes started exploring his spiritual side again - doing lots of work on himself and his demons.
"That has made Gemma feel more confident than ever that theyve finally turned a corner and can move on from the last couple of years of what shes described as hell.

7 healthy ways to break through a weight-loss plateau – Now To Love

Feel like you've been working hard, eating well but all of a sudden the weight doesn't seem to be budging anymore? Here are seven expert tips to help you break through that weight loss plateau.
By Anya Truong-George
Our bodies are very good at adapting, so while during the first few weeks of change if you've suddenly introduced regular exercise and a healthier diet you likely saw weight drop easily off as your body adapted, however, once your body got used to the new normal, it started to get comfortable, resulting in a weight loss plateau.
So how do you get unstuck?
Here, Mandi shares her top seven tips to help you work through your plateau and it could be as simple as drinking more water.
The study also showed the body prioritises metabolising alcohol before any food you've consumed, "which means that until the alcohol has burned, no other food will be," Mandi explains.
Adding, "Because alcohol lowers your inhibitions and alters decision-making, we tend to overeat when drinking. All these things are working against your weight loss and contributing to your plateau."
Mandi suggests cutting back on your carb intake and instead loading up on fibre-rich veggies, making them around 75 to 80 per cent of your daily food intake.
Then, add in some protein, healthy fats such as coconut and olive oil and avocado, and round it out with smaller servings of grains like brown rice and quinoa.
As mentioned above, your body is incredibly adaptable and can quickly adjust to new forms of exercise or a new diet if you repeat it for long enough, so the trick is to change things up, in particular, your fitness routine.
Mandi suggests a combination of strength training and cardio to "maximise your time and optimise your fat burning and muscle building."
She says you want each workout to be just as challenging as the first workout was even as you become stronger.
While you may think you're keeping to your healthy eating regime, there may be a few extra spoonful's of things that slip through the cracks, Mandi says.
She suggests keeping a food journal of everything you eat, but most importantly, what you're thinking or how you're feeling at that moment.
"I have my clients write down what they were thinking or feeling when they went to reach for the chips or the chocolates," Mandi explains.
"It doesn't need to be a lot of writing, just a one-word feeling. The most typical answers I hear are: bored, stressed, frustrated, overwhelmed, sad, lonely, and felt obligated socially."
For example, going out to eat and everyone else is eating dessert, or that they felt obligated to prepare unhealthy food because of an obligation to family.
"Lack of sleep causes your body to release extra cortisol (stress hormone), and has been proven to slow your metabolism and leave you at an increased risk of obesity and metabolic syndrome," Mandi says.
In turn, a spike in cortisol signals to your body to conserve more energy in your waking hours therefore, your body will hang on to fat instead of using energy to burn it.
Mandi adds, "A lot of times we'll think we're hungry when actually we're sleepy. This is often the culprit in the evening."
Mandi says when working with clients she's found that as they stop snacking at night and stick to earlier bedtimes, weight loss naturally kicks back into action.
Not only does water help us feel fuller for longer, but it is also a natural weight loss aid, Mandi says.
"Additionally, your body is made up of 75 per cent water," explains Mandi.
"When you are even slightly dehydrated, your body will pull water from nonessential functions, like digestion, to utilise it for essential functions like lung, liver, heart and muscle function.
"So if you're dehydrated, you're not losing weight."
Just as a lack of sleep spikes your cortisol levels, so too does high stress, fast-paced lifestyles, which also affects your body's ability to respond to insulin, a hormone which helps keep your body's blood sugar levels from getting too low or too high, and uses sugar from carbohydrates (glucose) to use as energy or store for future use (as fat).
So, if you're stressed for long periods, your body will be more likely to hold onto fat, resulting in that weight loss plateau.
Cortisol also prohibits the release of oxytocin, explains Mandi, which is the feel-good hormone that helps us shift into the 'rest and digest' parasympathetic nervous system.
While there are plenty of tips to help you push through a plateau, Mandi stresses that "it's always important to remember that the best way to lose weight naturally and keep it off permanently is to inspire your body to shift metabolically by getting yourself very healthy through foods, activities, thoughts and lifestyle choices.
"Weight loss then becomes a natural result," Mandi says.
That's why it's always important to remember that as long as you're getting plenty of movement in and eating a fresh, balanced diet and getting plenty of sleep, you're likely already on track to a happier, healthier you.
The Ministry of Health recommends talking to your GP before undertaking any major changes to your diet.

How to lose weight like this guy who lost 41 kgs in 6 months without ever going to the gym – GQ India – What a man’s got to do

To lose weight, you only need three thingsdiscipline, determination and consistencysays 30-year-old Kshitij Khanna and not an exorbitant gym membership as countless targeted ads on the Internet will tell you. No, we are not saying that gyms dont help; they do. But you dont necessarily need to join one to lose weight.
You can lose weight at home, like Kshitij did by brisk walking and following an intermittent fasting pattern of eating. One of the most unique components of my weight loss journeyfrom 120 kgs to 79 kgswas that I did not join a gym! Kshitij says.
Last year, my family (read: my brother and my mom) thought my weight had surpassed all thresholds and I should do something about it. I had also developed varicose veins and got breathless while climbing a short flight of stairs. Plus, none of my clothes would also fit beyond a point. Well, right now I can keep going on and on about why I needed to lose weight, but you get my point, right? he adds.
Kshitij elaborates that he decided to commence on a hassle-free weight loss journey by making simple changes in his lifestyle. I started brisk walking daily, and to be honest, I cannot stress how beneficial it was for me. I also indulged in some simple home workout routines but brisk walking (at the right time) coupled with intermittent fasting helped me lose 41 kgs in 6 months.
Walking is the best form of free physical exercise that burns calories and belly fat. It also helps preserve lean body muscle. Club it with a healthy diet plan and routine, youll start noticing an improvement in your body soon. Read more about its benefits here.
Intermittent Fasting (IF) is an eating pattern that cycles between periods of fasting and eating. It doesnt specify which foods you can or cannot eat. It only focuses on when you should eat them.
There are many IF plans and patterns that you can follow, but the most effective one, according to studies is the 16:8 IF diet. The 16:8 IF diet entails one to observe a 16-hour fasting period, followed by an 8-hour eating window.
You can commence a 16-hour fast at 10:00 pm in the night, after you eat your last meal of the day and go to sleepthats 7-8 hours gone right there. You can break the 16-hour fast at 2:00 pm with your lunch and eat small meals till 10:00 pmthis makes up the 8-hour eating window. Alternatively, you can also begin your fast at 8 pm and break it at 12 pm, the next day.
Kshitij tell us that he initially followed the 16:8 intermittent fasting pattern and then moved on to following the 18:6 fasting pattern. For a while, I also followed the 20:4 Warrior Diet (fasting for 20 hours and eating only during a four-hour window) and even experimented with the OMAD (One Meal A Day), 22:2 and 23:1 diets.
QUICK READ: Intermittent fasting vs. normal dieting: Whats better?
When I was fasting, Id go for a walk during the 18th hour or an even later hour of the fasting window. And since I was doing this, my body had no option but to cut the stored fat or excess fat to get energy."
I feel at the core level, weight loss is the result of a simple calculation between calories in (the calories you consume in the day) versus calories out (the calories you burn in a day). If you eat lesser than what your body can burn in a day, you create a calorie deficit. The deficit allows the body to burn stored fat to generate energy.
QUICK READ: How many calories should you eat every day to lose weight?
There are several options of exercise, including going to the gym that act as different medium to reach the same goal as I did by walking and intermittent fasting.
I have been able to maintain my weight by following the same routine I followed to lose weight, and even taking it to the next level. I feel this is just the start for me, I want to run a half marathon the next year and possibly a full marathon in the next couple of years. I also intend to add yoga and meditation to my schedule and for sure some exercises to the mix.
QUICK READ: 10 reasons why men should do yoga
Discipline, determination and consistency are the most important factors in your weight loss or fitness journey. When I go for a walk or eat the right thing I just feel good, it makes me happy, you will have to feel it to believe it. It doesn't happen overnight but give yourself sometime.
Id also like to add that if you want to follow intermittent fasting or any other protocol for that matter, keep in mind that you can't leave them as soon as you are done with losing a desired amount of weight, because if you suddenly stop, youll regain the weight again. You have to follow pattern for a long tenure (I intend to follow IF as long as I can)."
"Also, please note that it takes the body some time to get adjusted to any new routine, so give yourself at least a few weeks before you quit.

Teen Mom star Mackenzie McKee talks dramatic weight loss – Monsters and Critics

Mackenzie McKee talks health and dramatic weight loss. Pic credit: MTV
Teen Mom star Mackenzie McKee is focusing on her business and health after working through her marital problems with Josh McKee. Earlier this year, she announced that she was leaving Josh because she no longer trusted him.
However, he proposed to her once again. The couple plans on having a second wedding to dedicate themselves to one another. With her relationship back on track, Mackenzie can now speak out about her business and health.
Shes often sharing health advice on her social media pages, and now shes giving a personal example from her life. She explains that she weighed 114 pounds in nothing but her outfit the morning of her show after dieting and working out like a crazy woman.
But then, after eating a balanced diet and enjoying a regular workout routine, she weighed in at 105 in boots, sweats, a hoodie, and a heavy jacket.
And this my friends is why you should go see a hormone specialist and see where your body is before going after your fitness goals. Took my testosterone from a 15 to 250. I cant wait to see what my body does for next prep.
Mackenzie McKee (@DouthitKenzie) November 14, 2019
Thats a total weight loss of nine pounds. While that may not sound like a lot, Mackenzie is already a small woman with a thin frame. Nine pounds sounds like a significant weight loss for someone who already weighs less than 120 pounds.
She followed up the tweet of her weight loss news with advice for people to see a hormone specialist. Since Mackenzie works with people directly to reach their fitness goals, shes now encouraging her fans to see a hormone specialist before working on those fitness goals, as getting that under control first could make it easier for you to lose weight.

Its been said that if the U.S. Constitution were rewritten afresh, it would not stress the pursuit of happiness, but the pursuit of health. Today, when people get together, discussions eventually turn to health concerns, such as losing weight, blood pressure, bone density or other issues. Now there are tests to indicate the condition of your health. And if tests show an early abnormality, rule number one is prevention. Rule number two is to never forget rule number one.
Blood Pressure
Hypertension is one of the main causes of heart attack, so what number should you try to maintain? Dr. William Dale, spokesperson for the American Geriatric Society, says regardless of age, North Americans should shoot for a blood pressure of 130/80. But if youre over 65 then 150/90 should be fine. Over this number does not always mean medication.
Dr. Steven Nissen, chief of cardiology at the Cleveland Clinic, suggests its prudent to first change your lifestyle such as losing weight, exercising 90 minutes weekly, and reducing salt intake below 1,500 milligrams daily. He adds a diet of more fruit, vegetables, high fibre cereal, fish, and poultry may lower blood pressure as much as medication.
As Ive advised for years, good health is all about lifestyle. Or as a Chinese proverb says, He who takes medicine and neglects to diet wastes the skill of his doctor.
Blood Sugar
Today 25% of North Americans over 65 suffer from Type 2 diabetes (better called lifestyle diabetes). Years ago, Type 1 diabetes, due to genetics, was the main problem. The Diabetes Association recommends everyone should be screened at age 45. A test called HbA1c evaluates what happens to blood sugar over a long period of time. Levels below 5.7 are considered normal. So what should you do if its higher?
You must lose weight and the reward is significant. Dr. David Lam, medical director at the Mount Sinai Diabetes Clinical Diabetes Institute in New York, writes in Consumer Reports on Health that patients with pre-diabetes who dropped 7% of their weight, slashed their risk of diabetes by 50%. This should make everyone take notice, as it means a decrease in the risk of coronary attack, blindness, kidney failure and amputation of legs.
Bone Density
Women 65 and older and men 70 and older should have a bone mineral density test done. Your doctor can determine whether your bone density is normal, shows a slight decrease in density (osteopenia), or looks like Swiss cheese (osteoporosis) with risk of fracture.
The American Journal of Nutrition advises women older than 50 and men older than 70 to take 1,200 milligrams of calcium daily, 600 IU of vitamin D daily and follow a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, fish, high fibre cereals, skim milk, and nuts, along with 30 minutes of lifting weights and walking more. This will slow bone mass loss within a year and decrease the risk of a broken hip and possibly spending the rest of your life in a wheelchair, or death.
Colonoscopy
Large bowel malignancies are the third most commonly diagnosed cancers today. So its prudent to give colon cancer your attention, and earlier is better than later. If you wait for symptoms, you may already be in serious trouble. My advice is to get a colonoscopy as early in your midlife as possible. The fecal occult blood test (FOBT) detects blood in the stool, the signal of a problem, but this test can miss an early cancer.
Its been said if you dont take care of yourself, the undertaker will. We must all remember that the greatest wealth is our health. And that looking after yourself is not being selfish. Its a matter of survival.
