Top 5 Natural Appetite Suppressants to Help Lose Weight …

No doubt about it, overeating and its connection to more and more people becoming overweight or obese is one of the most complex and challenging issues in health care today. There are many reasons why you might feel like youre always hungry, including nutrient deficiencies, a lack of fiber or healthy fats in your diet, fatigue, or high amounts of emotional stress. However, it doesnt have to be this way. Natural appetite suppressants can help you achieve satiety and avoid overeating, and they can help you do that without the dangers of diet pills.

While manufacturers of weight loss pills continue to promote the convenience and rapid results associated with their products, the U.S. Food and Drug Administrationand other health authorities warn against their use. Some of the main reasons that appetite-suppressing weight loss pills are considered to be at least somewhat dangerous include medication interactions, tainted or unlisted ingredients, high amounts of caffeine, and fillers or synthetic additives that causenegative reactions, just to name few.

The good news is this: There appear to be safer and more natural options for suppressing your appetite (and potentially losing some weight as a result) without so much risk involved. In fact, throughout history cultures all over the world have consumed natural foods, teas and spices that are now provingto be beneficial for metabolic functions and energy expenditure. Consuming natural appetite suppressants, such as filling, fat-burning foods, nutrients likeconjugated linoleic acid andchromium, probiotics, and anti-aging beverages like green tea, can help you keep mindless cravings, a habit of snacking or a sweet tooth under better control.

Appetite suppressants are either pills, drinks, supplements or whole foods that help keep you from overeating. Natural appetite suppressants which have some similarities to commercial weight loss pills but some important differences may help tackle some of these issues related to obesity or emotional eating in part by balancing levels of hunger hormones, such as ghrelin and leptin. Ghrelin and leptin rise and fall throughout the day depending on things like how much youve recently eaten, your mood, stress level, sleep, genetics, current weight and level of inflammation. In other words, theres a lot at play when it comes to suppressing or stimulating your daily appetite.

In addition to decreasing your appetite through hormone regulation, nutrients or essential oils used for safely promoting weight loss can help tip the scale in your favor in several other ways, such as burning more stored body fat for energy (these are known as thermogenics), improvingbalance of blood sugar levels, curbing cravings for junk foods or sweets, improving thyroid health, increasing release of happy hormones or endorphins like serotonin, and possibly giving you a bit more energy throughout the day to be used for extra physical activity.

There are all sorts of products available today that claim to have these appetite-dulling effects, but not every kind has been shown to work or even to be very safe. Examples of weight loss supplements that pose the most risks include guarana, garcinia cambogia, bitter orange or ephedrine.According to the FDA, Supplements arent considered drugs, so they arent put through the same strict safety and effectiveness requirements that drugs are. (1) Thats why I recommend approaching weight loss holistically especially by eating filling, fat-burning, natural foods and other natural appetite suppressants that wont potentially lead to complications like taking pills or consuming high amounts of caffeine can.

1. Green Tea Extract

Green tea has been consumed for thousands of years and is still one of the healthiest beverages available to us today. Its been the focus of hundreds of studies related to everything from preventing cognitive disorders like dementia to managing metabolic dysfunction. Recently, certain antioxidants and substances in green tea extract have been tied to beneficial effects on metabolic diseases and improvements in regulating appetite hormones.

A Cochrane meta-anylsis including 14 studied involving use of green tea found that its consumption was associated with mild but significant weight loss results compared to controls or placebo. (2) One study that tested the effects of green tea extract on a group of adults compared to a control group not taking green tea found that after 12 weeks, those taking 857 milligrams of green tea had significantly lower levels of ghrelin (known as the hunger hormone).

Participants in the green tea extract group also had improvements in cholesterol levels and elevated levels of adiponectin compared to the placebo group. Low levels of adiponectin have been tied to problems like insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome and increased inflammation. EGCG, the most abundant green tea catechin and a powerful bioactive constituent, has also been shown to act like a cancer-fighting compound and promote thermogenic activities in studies, therefore decreasing fat cell proliferation and helping burn body fat for energy. (3)

Although not every study has shown such strong and positive weight loss results associated with green tea extract, it seems safe for most adults to take up to 800900 milligrams daily, usually spread out over three increments. (4) Although theyre generally rare, when taking green tea extract be on the lookout for reported adverse effects thatmight include mild headaches, signs of hypertension, constipation or possibly increased symptoms of urinary tract infection.

2. Saffron Extract

Some research suggests that taking certain saffron extracts can positive effects on mood regulation by increasing endorphin and serotonin levels. Saffrons effects when it comes to suppressing appetite, including leading to reduced snacking and an elevated mood, seem to be the result of increased serotonin action in the body. (5) This has been shown to help improve symptoms of depression, emotional eating and PMSafter about six to eight weeks of treatment. In fact, certain studies have found that saffron extract can work almost as well as taking a low-dose prescription antidepressant drug (such as fluoxetine or imipramine).

Additionally, while research shows mixed results, theres some evidence that taking a chemical from saffron called crocetin might decrease fatigue during exercise and help with increasing energy expenditure. (6) To get theantidepressant benefits of saffron, start with the the standard daily dose of 30 milligrams, used for up to eight weeks. If you have any existing condition that might interfere with saffrons influence on serotonin metabolism (like depression, for example), its a good idea to get your doctors opinion first.

3. Grapefruit Essential Oil

Grapefruits benefits for weight losshave been the focus of dozen of studies and seem to be due to beneficial acids, antioxidants, volatile oils and enzymes that help reduce your appetite, lower cravings, help stimulate the lymphatic system and give you a mild dose of uplifting energy.

Research regarding grapefruits effects on olfactory stimulation (how smelling the aroma affects the central nervous system) shows that inhaling the fruits smell can positively alter autonomic nerve signaling, lipolysis (fat metabolism) and appetite regulation. Here are several findings from a number of studies about how grapefruit essential oil impacts appetite and body weight: (7, 8)

Certain studies have shown that just three 15-minute exposures to grapefruit essential oil each week helped participants reduce their appetites and practice habits (like slow, mindful eating) that better control their weight. How can you use grapefruit essential oil at home or when youre on the go? Trying adding several drops of pure grapefruit essential oil (citrus paradise) either to a diffuser in your office/home, to your shower or bath soap, or with a carrier oil to be massaged right onto your skin (just do a skin patch test to be sure you dont have an allergic reaction first).

4. Foods High in Fiber

Dietary fibers, whether from food sources or in concentrated supplement form, have been used for hundreds of years to promote fullness, improve gut healthand digestive functions, and help maintain strong immunity and heart health. Despite the fact that fiber intake is inversely associated with hunger, body weight and body fat, studies show that the average fiber intake of adults in the United States is still less than half of recommended levels. (9)

What is it about fiber that dulls your appetite?Because fiber is not able to be digested once consumed, plus it absorbs so much of its own weight in water, high-fiber foods help slow your bodys digestion of glucose (sugar), keep you feeling fuller for longer and beat cravings. Many foods high in fiber are also very nutritionally dense, meaning you get more bang for your nutritional buck and help prevent dehydration or deficiencies.

Eating a high-fiber diet similar to the Mediterranean dietor the way that those known for longevity living in theBlue Zones eat has been linked to a longer life span, better regulation of healthy body weight, improved gut/digestive health, hormonal health and much more. According to researchin the Obesity Reports, Evidence points to a significant association between a lack of fiber intake and: ischemic heart disease, stroke, atherosclerosis, type 2 diabetes, overweight and obesity, insulin resistance, hypertension, dyslipidemia, as well as gastrointestinal disorders. (10)

To fill up on the right foods faster and for longer, consume more high-fiber foods, including chia seeds, flaxseeds, starchy or non-starchy fresh veggies, beans or legumes, and fruit (especially berries).

5. Spicy Foods

Naturally spicy (plus anti-inflammatory) ingredients like cayenne, black pepper, curry, turmeric, ginger, dandelion or cinnamon might help increase your bodys ability to burn fat, suppress hunger levels, normalize glucose levels, reduce free radical damage associated with aging and reduce your appetite for sweets.

Studies have found that results associated with eating spices like cayenne with high-carb meals indicate that red pepper increases diet-induced thermogenesis (heating the body and burning of fat) and lipid oxidation. (11) Other research regarding the effects of capsaicin, the phytochemical responsible for the spiciness of peppers, has shown that this compound can modulate metabolic activities through affecting transient receptors in the digestive system, such as one called TRPV1.

Because theyre loaded with benefits, virtually free from calories and easy to use on all sorts of recipes, theres basically no reason for anything but love for spices.Theres evidence that including more spices and herbs in your diet (especially turmeric, black pepper and cayenne pepper) can help you reduce intake of things like flavor enhancers, salt and sugar while helping you reduce weight gain without having negative effects. Try adding some to homemade tea or detox drinks, marinades, on top of fish or other proteins, in a stir-fry, on veggies, or in soups.

Commercially sold diet pills usually contain a mix of stimulants, including caffeine, herbs, and sometimes digestive enzymes or acids. Generally, they come with adverse side effects, making them unhealthy ways to lose weight.

Caffeine is one of the most common weight loss ingredients because it often has the appealing effects of dulling someones appetite, improving motivation and increasing energy for activity. However, as you may have experienced yourself in the past, consuming too much caffeine within a short time period can cause strong side effects like jitteriness, headaches, insomnia, anxiety, heart palpitations, diarrhea and more.

While the majority of adults worldwide consume at least some caffeine daily, mostly in the form of coffee or tea, abnormally high amounts of caffeine are usually limited to fat-burning supplements. When weight loss pill manufacturers include caffeine in amounts theyre rarely used otherwise, its likely to cause both short-term issues like dependence and jitteriness or, even worse, dangerous interactions with existing medical conditions or medications.

Due to interactions with medications or changes in blood pressure, other side effects of popular weight loss pills like guarana, garcinia cambogia or ephedrine, for example can include anxiety, trouble sleeping, indigestion, diarrhea, rapid heartbeat, headaches, dependency and blood pressure changes that can sometimes be dangerous.

Some commercially available thermogenic supplements (especially those containing ephedrine, also called ephedra) have even been found to induce acute liver failureand contribute to serious reactions likeexcessive bleeding, increased pressure in the brain, fatigue, malaise and jaundice.(12) This is one reason why ephedrine is nowbanned as a dietary supplement ingredient in the U.S. due to an increase in reported reactions hypertension, palpitation, stroke, seizures, heart attack and even in rare cases death.

Because theres always the risk for developing many different reactions depending on your current health and age, pay attention to how you feel even when using natural appetite suppressants. Follow dosage directions carefully, since high doses can cause dangerous reactions like poisoning, yellow appearance of the skin or mucous membranes, vomiting, dizziness, diarrhea, and heart problems.

Generally speaking, not enough is known about the safety of using even natural appetite suppressants during pregnancy or breastfeeding, so to stay on the safe side its wise to avoid use of supplements mentioned above during these times. Children and the elderly should also generally avoid consuming too much caffeine or supplements without a doctors opinion first.

If you have any of the below health problems, talk to a professional before attempting to suppress your appetite for weight loss (especially if you take medications daily):

Heres the bottom line on using natural appetite suppressants compared to other appetite suppressants: While weight loss pills, teas or other products may possibly give you a lift in energy, dulled appetite or temporarily elevated mood, theyre unlikely to result in any long-term weight loss, especially when you dont make other healthy lifestyle changes. Focus on eating a well-rounded, nutrient-dense diet, preventing deficiencies in key vitamins or minerals, and staying active. Then you shouldnt need to turn to weight loss products in the first place.

Exercise : National Multiple Sclerosis Society

Overview

In addition to being essential to general health and well-being, exercise is helpful in managing many MS symptoms. A study published by researchers at the University of Utah in 1996 was the first to demonstrate the benefits of exercise for people with MS. Those patients who participated in an aerobic exercise program benefited from:

Additional studies have confirmed the benefits of exercise, including improvement in cognitive function and mood enhancement.

Inactivity in people with or without MS can result in numerous risk factors associated with coronary heart disease. In addition, it can lead to weakness of muscles, decreased bone density with an increased risk of fracture, and shallow, inefficient breathing.

An exercise program needs to fit the capabilities and limitations of the individual. It may need to be adjusted as changes occur in MS symptoms. A physical therapist experienced with MS can be helpful in designing, supervising and revising an exercise program. Any person with MS who is initiating a new exercise program should also consult with a physician before starting.

Periods of exercise should be carefully timed to avoid the hotter periods of the day and prevent excessive fatigue. With some guidelines, an exercise program can help maintain good health.

Exercise doesn't have to be a rigorous cardiovascular workout to provide benefits. Physical activity in general is beneficial and can include a variety of things most people can do in the comfort of their home or community. Physical activity includes but is not limited to:

Why Diets Don’t Work in The Long Term Calories Part VII

Click here for Calories Part I, Part II, Part III, Part IV, Part V, and Part VI.

We have explored the bodys adaptation to reducing calories and weight and seen how the body acts more like a thermostat than a scale. The body acts as though it has a Body Set Weight (BSW) and strives vigorously to defend that weight against increase or decrease alike.

But how long do these adaptations last? If we maintain a certain body weight, will our body eventually recognize this as a new BSW? Certainly at first glance, this seems like a reasonable assumption. But is it true?

Reduce Energy Expenditure

Lets look at some recent studies to answer this important question.

Long-term persistence of adaptive thermogenesis in subjects who have maintained a reduced body weight by Dr. Rosenbaum et al.

In this study, 21 subjects were recruited and fed a liquid diet consisting of 45% carbohydrates over one year and the Total Energy Expenditure (TEE) were measured. As expected, during the initial weight loss phase (10% of body weight) TEE was reduced. As weight went down, the body tries to regain the weight by reducing TEE. In essence, the body is defending the BSW and trying to return to the original weight. But how long does this last?

What is interesting is that TEE is reduced over the course of the full year. Even after one year at the new, lower body weight, the TEE was still reduced by an average of almost 500 calories/day. (see figure on right)

In other words, this reduction in TEE starts almost immediately after caloric reduction and persists for a long time at least 1 year and going strong. It does not appear that this BSW has been changed at all. There is no sign that BSW has changed.

The body is still trying to get back to the original BSW. Remember that this weight loss is achieved with no change in the composition of the diet only the amount (a portion control strategy).

Lets put this into dietary terms. We start by eating 2,000 cal/day and burning 2,000 cal/day. We decide to lose some weight and reduce our calories to 1,500 cal/day. Our body almost immediately reduces TEE to 1,500 cal/day.

We lose some weight but then the weight loss stops even though we are still eating less than before. Because TEE has been reduced, we feel cold, tired, hungry and a bit miserable but we decide to stick it out thinking that things must improve. However, even after 1 year, things are exactly the same. We feel lousy and the weight is not coming off despite our best efforts to eat only 1,500 cal/day.

Finally, we think that we should go back to a normal diet 2,000 cal/day. The weight comes rushing back because now we are eating 2,000 calories/day and expending only 1,500. Sound familiar? Thought so Thats because everything Im describing here has been well described over the last 100 years! This actually starts to make a bit of sense. Suppose we are the manager of a power plant. Every day, we receive 2,000 tonnes of coal and we burn 2,000 tonnes of coal. We also maintain a supply of coal just in case we dont have enough (storage shed). Now, all of a sudden, we start getting only 1,500 tonnes of coal.

What do you imagine that we should do? If we keep on burning 2,000 tonnes of coal, we would quickly burn through our stores of coal and then our power plant would be shut down. Massive blackout over the entire city. Anarchy and looting commence.

Our boss would tell us how utterly stupid we are and say something like Your ass is FIRED! The problem, of course, is that he is entirely correct in his assessment.

Because we, as the manager of this power plant, are not that stupid would not do that. As soon as we figured out that we were only getting 1,500 tonnes of coal, we would reduce our power output to 1,500 of coal. In fact, we might use only 1,400 tonnes just in case. A few lights go out, but there is no blackout. Anarchy and looting avoided. Boss says Great job. Youre not as stupid as you look. Raises all around

Now, lets think about our body. We eat 2,000 calories/day and use 2,000 calories/day. We start a diet so now we are eating only 1,500 calories/day. What happens? Well, the body is not that stupid. It does not want to die. Why do we assume the Mother Nature is a complete moron? The very first thing we do is reduce our TEE to 1,500 calories/day and maintain that for as long as it takes.

We know for a fact that this is what happens. It has been proven over and over again. We just keep not believing it and hoping that our caloric reduction strategy somehow, this time, will work. It wont. Face it. We only believe it because the nutritional authorities keep tell us it works. It doesnt.

Mother Nature is not stupid. Thats why conventional calorie reduced diets dont work in the long term.

The Science Behind the HCG Diet – hCG Injections Shop

The Science behind the HCG Diet

HCG or Human Chorionic Gonadotropin is a hormone produced by both men and women. Women who are pregnant on the other hand, produce a higher quantity of HCG in their placenta. HCG is consists of 244 amino acids. It is a catalyst hormone that stimulates the production of other hormones in the body. HCG also plays a role in controlling womens metabolism.

HCG was first connected with weight loss by Dr. Albert T.W. Simeons back in the 60s and 70s. He gave HCG to boys with low testosterone levels. He found out that the boys starts to lose abnormal belly fat and had slimmed down. From this observation he conducted research. He experimented with various amounts of HCG and its relation to metabolism and weight loss.

Eventually, he discovered through his research that a large amount of belly fat can be lost through HCG hormone and strict diet. Soon, his breakthrough was discovered. Doctors from around the world were coming to Rome to learn more about his discovery.

In 1967, Dr. Simeons published Pounds and Inches: A New Approach to Obesity. The book summarizes and helps delivers Dr. Simeons weight loss findings to the world. In this protocol, the point of focus and the philosophy behind HCG diet is the abnormal fats. HCG hormone allows the body to burn up abnormal fats by working on the brains hypothalamus. Hypothalamus performs important functions such as controlling the appetite and mobilizing stubborn fats. Research shows that following the protocol, HCG hormone can help curb and eliminate cravings for sugar and starch.

In Dr. Simeons Pounds and Inches Away, he said that obesity in all its many forms is due to an abnormal functioning of some part of the body. He believed that abnormal buildup of fats is caused by a disorder and not just by eating more than normal. In his opening pages, he discussed issues of obesity alongside his theory about the accumulating fat disorder. He also tackled ways on how correct it through the three phases of HCG diet.

In the early Neolithic times, a change took place which accounts for the development of todays obesity. The change was the institution of regular meals, the three-meal system. Through Dr. Simeons writing, he examines the concept of regular meals and its connection to stored fats. He discussed that in the Pre-Neolithic time man only ate when he was hungry. When man eats, he only eats as much as he requires stilling the pangs of hunger. Much of his food is unrefined and raw.

But with the advent of regular meals, the body had to take more food at a faster rate. This contributes to an extremely unhealthy trend. Each meal provides the body with nourishment that is not needed at the time. So this nourishment has to be stored somewhere thus leading to obesity we now see. He further emphasized that rather than the regular meals, the pre-Neolithic diet is what our body needs.

Dr. Simeons establishes that body fats are of three types.

It fills the gap between organs, a sort of packing material. It also performs an important function such as protecting the arteries, providing beddings for kidney and keeping the skin taut and smooth. Structural fats also provide the springy cushion under the bones of the feet.

It is the normal reserve of fuel that can be used by the body for energy. Normal fat contains a high amount of calories in a small amount of space. It is reserved for muscular activity and for the maintenance of body temperature. The normal and structural normal fats are both important. Even if the fats will accumulate in the body, it is completely normal and can never be considered obese.

These fats are created by the high intake of sugar and starch in the modern diet. Abnormal fats cause obesity. It is found around the hips, buttocks, stomach and thigh. Abnormal fat is a potential reserve of fuel however it is not readily available to the body. Without proper weight loss methods, it will remain in the body.

When obese dieters try to reduce by eating less, they first lose their normal fat reserves. When these are used up the body switches to structural fats and only as a last resort will the body uses the abnormal fats. However, by that time the body is too hungry and too weak to properly exercise. Yet the body has changed very little.

There are many glands in the body that regulates normal body activities. This gland includes the pituitary glands, thyroid glands and adrenal glands. Dr. Simeons debunks various obesity myths around these glands and connects it to weight loss. However, after a series of test, he found out that there is no correlation among the glands with weight loss.

Dr. Simeons made an interesting connection between the concept of a bank and how fat works in our body. Our fat storage works like bank accounts. When the body absorbs more fuel than what is needed, the rest is locked away for large amounts of time.

In order to lose weight, he emphasizes that we must understand how our body deposits and withdraws fat. When we eat large amounts of food all at once the fat deposit grows rapidly. This system of eating causes an exhaustion of the fat-bank. The fat center will take a large amount of food than the usual. This overpowers the Diencephalon or Hypothalamus, the part of the brain that manages the withdrawal and deposit of fats which leads to obesity.

Dr. Simeons narrowed the main causes of obesity into three.

1. Psychological aspect - Dr. Simeons believed that emotional eating is an instinct gratification by a part of the brain. When a person is unhappy and lonely he can use this outlet to pent-up instinct pressure. When this happens, no amount of happiness and gratification of other instinct can correct the condition.

2. Compulsive eating - Dr. Simeons believed that most people who are obese do not suffer from compulsive eating. They are truly hungry. Their sudden desire for sweets and other foods can allay their pangs of hunger. However, some obese does experience compulsive eating. It comes on with an attack and not because of real hunger.

3. Reluctance in losing weight - Dr. Simeons points out that some patients do not like the idea of losing weight. They are deeply attached to their fats. Some are afraid to lose weight fearing that people will like or be jealous of their figure. Others are deeply attached to their obese childhood. To some, being obese is their source of pride.

Dr. Simeons also studied the diencephalon or hypothalamus. He connects it with how the body stores and burn fuel. He believed that hypothalamus has something to do with how the body stores fat. He thought that if he can tap into the diencephalon center, he could discover ways on how obese can lose weight that has not yet examined.

There are early signs and symptoms of obesity as concluded by Dr. Simeon.

Common signs include:

1. A buildup of excessive fats around the hips, thighs, abdomen, upper arms and chin.

Less obvious signs which were examined by Simeon to be true with obese:

1. Two upper front teeth that are disproportionately large.

2. Dimple on both sides of the sacral bone just above the buttocks.

3. A pad of fat on the inside of the knees.

Clinical symptoms of obesity include:

1. Rheumatic pains

2. Frequent headaches

3. Frequent headaches

4. Lethargy

Dr. Simeons first used HCG to help speed up puberty with underdeveloped children in India. He gave them several hundred international units twice a week. As a result of these injections, Dr. Simeon made a few discoveries.

1.First, the small daily dose was just as effective as the larger dose given twice a week.

2.Second and one of the most important discoveries was that the patients began to lose large appetite even without being on a restrictive diet.

3.Third, he noticed that the body shapes began to change. He believed that this was because of the abnormal fats moving away from the hips. The fats become available as fuel for the body to burn. The abnormal fats are a new source of fuel which can be used as a replacement for foods. This answers his questions as to why the boys were not hungry even on a restricted diet.

4.A higher dose of HCG does not cause any harm to the body.

5.Patients on 500 calorie diet were able to go on their normal day.

His discoveries had made it clear that with HCG, the body can transition from using the normal fat reserves to the abnormal fats.

Dr. Simeon began to develop his theory of HCG injections and weight loss after a series of test. He discussed how pregnant woman can drastically lose weight without feeling hungry. He also believed that in pregnant woman abnormal deposit of fat is not created due to the presence of enormous quantities of HCG in the body.

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin was created long before its effects on the body were truly understood. It has been used for over a century in the development of the first pregnancy test. Gonadotrophin means a sex-gland directed substance or hormone. However, Dr. Simeons points out that HCG has no effect on normal sex function.

Dr. Simeons found out only 125 units of HCG hormone each day is needed to lose weight. With 500 calorie diet, an obese patient can lose at least one pound each day. He believes that HCG can also cure complicating disorders that are often associated with obesity.

1.Diabetes - His research revealed that HCG diet has the ability to lower the blood sugar. The diabetic patients blood sugar often reaches the normal level in 2-3 weeks. It is often possible to stop all insulin treatments after the first few weeks with HCG.

2.Rheumatism - Rheumatic pains can also decrease after few days of HCG treatment. It allows obese patients to stop using cortisone medicine for a while without a recurrence of pain.

3.High Cholesterol - Obese patient with abnormally high cholesterol has been seen to decrease when treated with HCG.

4.Gout - HCG can help patients with gout pain even if the blood uric acid increases during treatment.

5.Blood Pressure - During HCG diet, the blood sugar of patients may drop. This is one of the significant discoveries with the use of HCG.

1. What are the side effects of HCG? - Similar to other diets, there are a few minor side effects that you should be aware of. Some of these side effects can include irritability, fatigue, headache and restlessness. However, these side effects tend to be from the protocol and not the HCG. In most cases, it can be corrected by menu adjustments.

2. How many calories should I eat a day? - The original protocol of Dr. Simeons recommends a maximum of 500 calories a day. However, this is a strict protocol. You cant just eat anything that equals to 500 calories.

3. Do I need a Prescription to do the HCG diet? - No. You dont need a prescription to order your HCG. In fact, you can order it here.

4. Will I feel hungry while on the HCG Diet? - You will likely feel hungry in the beginning but that usually goes away. Your body will soon adjust to the lower calorie intake.

8. How much weight will I lose? - Men typically lose 1 pound a day. Women, on the other hand, lose an average of pound a day.

How to Lose Weight Without Starving (or going crazy!)

Starving yourself in the hopes of budging the scale and shifting a few pounds might seem like a good idea, but theres a catch. The more you starve yourself, the more stubborn your fat stores actually become!

The reason for this can be traced back to our ancient ancestors, who, living without the convenience of drive-thrus, often didnt know when they would eat again. As a result, the human body evolved to hang on to fat reserves to prevent our energy stores running too low and boost survival. Its all self-preservation, really.

The bad news is this evolutionary safety-switch is still in effect, which means a different approach for effective weight loss is in order. The main problem with starving yourself is not that you wont lose weight, you will, its the fact its not sustainable (or healthy).

The good news is that the answer to this weight loss conundrum is simple eating foods and following strategies that ignite your metabolism and leave you feeling full and satisfied. You CAN lose weight safely, and effectively without staging a standoff on calories or eating a single rice cake, just follow this simple advice.

Theres a reason its called breakfast. While youve been sleeping, your bodys been fasting without food for 8 hours, your energy reserves are running on fumes and your fat-burning metabolism has slowed to a crawl. Now is the best time to kick-start your body into fat-burning mode.

Before we reveal the breakfast-table winners, heres what to avoid: donuts, bagels, danish, muffins, waffles and buttered toast (white). Loaded with simple (refined) carbohydrates, these foods send blood sugar levels soaring before shortly crashing leaving you unfulfilled, irritable and ravenous.

Instead, keep your blood-sugar levels stable with foods like eggs on toast, a fruit salad topped with low-fat (Greek) yogurt, muesli or a bowl of oatmeal with assorted fruits and honey. Lack of time in the morning isnt an excuse either. Heres a set of no-mess, no-fuss options when youre in a rush:

When it comes to noshing on the right foods for weight loss, to separate the winners from the losers stick to the GI scale (glycemic index). High-GI foods are broken down quickly by the body and deliver a short, sharp burst of energy.

Low-GI foods take longer to break down, keeping you feeling fuller for longer. Trade in your white bread, rice, pasta and rice-based crackers for Low-GI whole grain/wheat alternatives. Same goes for potatoes; swap white for sweet just dont eat too much! Alternatively, going low-carb is a sure-fire way to lose weight fast, just go slow to minimize cravings.

If you feel too restricted on your new eating plan, youre not going to enjoy it, which is why its occasionally good to indulge (sensibly) in your favorite foods. Have the belief that losing weight means cutting out your favorite foods forever and you might fall of your new plan completely. The most important thing is have fun, so have that slice of pizza just not the whole thing!

Back away slowly from the soda and no one gets hurt. Loaded with sugar & empty calories, downing just one of these diet-destroying drinks can easily ruin an otherwise healthy day. This is no exaggeration, either. Just take a look at the image to the right. If thats not enough to get you to re-think how you drink, consider the fact that sugar is the leading culprit for unwanted fat gain and can lead to diseases, including diabetes and heart disease scary stuff!

Having a water bottle on hand at home or at work will give you something to sip on and keep your mind off the vending machine. Add in things like fresh lemon/lime juice and mint for extra flavor. Remember, thirst is often interpreted as hunger so stay hydrated; youll feel fuller without any sense of sacrifice. The same principle goes for alcohol although the odd glass of wine or low-calorie beer wont hurt.

In addition to 3 healthy, nutrient-dense meals you should have every day, youll also want to have an assortment of healthy snacks on standby when youre feeling peckish. Pastries and cookies dont make the grade here.

You want snacks that contain protein, complex carbohydrates and healthy fats. Nosh on healthy grab-and-go options like low-fat yogurts, fresh/dried fruit, a handful of mixed nuts, avocados, small tins of tuna/salmon or a couple of whole-grain crackers with cucumber and turkey slices. Youll feel full, have energy to burn and control your hunger, making it easier to eat healthy when meal time rolls around.

OK, we know its not technically a food rule, but its important to realize howgetting active can allow you to eat and enjoy more while still losing weight. A great way to understand weight loss is to think of your body as a bank.

Here your deposits represent food (energy in) and your withdrawals represent exercise (energy out). Weight loss begins as soon as you start expending more calories than you deposit, so the more you move, the more you lose! As a bonus, more exercise means a faster metabolic rate which means you enjoy the foods you love more often guilt free! Heres the best ways to get moving:

PUMP IT UP: Your muscles are your bodys natural fat burners so your goal should be to use and engage them as much as possible. Do this by performing large multi-muscle moves such as chest presses, dips, squats & lunges. Pump classes are great too & offer the same benefits with a cardio boost.

BREAK A SWEAT: Swimming, skipping, jogging, aerobics, cycling are all great ways to set your heart racing and burn fat. To max your results & save time, crank up the intensity dial and decrease your total exercise time. The result: Youll burn more calories both during and after your workout.

Remember, everyday youre presented with hidden opportunities burn a few extra calories. Taking the stairs instead of the elevator and parking away from work are all great ways to get moving and each contribute to your body-bank withdrawals. Be creative, think what you can do!
