How Soon Can I Train After an Injury? – TeamUSA.org (blog)

By Saul Guznay | Sept. 05, 2017, 2:36 p.m. (ET)

Whether its your first or your 10th time dealing with injury, we all want to get back to training as soon as possible. For many triathletes, our sport is therapy, quiet time and even a way to socialize. So when we find out we have to reduce or even completely stop training, its a strange feeling. Depending on the kind of injury you have, the turnaround time can be from a few days to a few months. Yet, the approach is the same and maybe this article can help give some insight.

Here are four common types of injuries that multisport athletes encounter and approaches to recovery. Keep in mind that your current fitness level, age and the area of injury play huge parts in the recovery process and shouldnt be ignored. Remember to consult your primary physician or sports doctor for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan.

Ligaments, tendons and muscles have amazing tensile strength when you think about what they do during exercise. However, when they are pushed past their flexibility limits or not properly warmed up, they can get injured. Unless youre told by your doctor theres a tear present, the recovery is on a week-to-week basis depending on the area of the body. For ligaments in the ankle, it might take longer because theres reduced blood flow to the area and chances are you are on your feet so its not getting absolute rest. For minor muscle strains, the recovery might be quicker if its in the upper body, but reduced exercise intensity and massage helps speed up the process. Foam rolling, light stretching and therapy exercises using elastic tubing are appropriate as long as there is no pain in the area. Complete inactivity isnt suggested because muscles become tighter and atrophy can set in. The idea is to bring blood flow to the area, not to work on increasing strength.

Physical therapy is usually not needed in cases like these unless the doctor recommends it. Being patient and listening to your body is the best bet. Taking it much slower in this part will help you be speedy on race day!

Im referring to issues such as stress fractures, bone bruises and tendinitis in this section. Outside of hitting your head in the pool or falling off your bike, running is a big cause for injury because of repetitive ground impact. It happens to professionals and age-groupers alike. Some athletes over train and some athletes under rest. Both groups dont allow the bones and their connective tissue enough recovery time to get stronger for the next training session. Stress fractures in the metatarsals and shin bone are quite common and if you have the starting stages or already have a stress fracture, its not wise to continue running. Its not worth being out of commission for months wearing a boot. Even if you dont completely break the bone, you might be suggested to wear an air cast just to minimize the amount of pressure when walking.

When it comes to training, more isnt always better. Depending on your individual training regimen, we each have a limit to what we can handle in the swim, bike and run. Just because swimming and biking eliminate much impact from the joints, there can still be issues. If youve developed overuse injuries in the neck and shoulders (biking and swimming) or pain in the hips and lower back (biking), consider lowering the training volume and hitting the gym to bring the body back to neutral. For swimming, this can involve strengthening opposing muscles not used such as the rhomboids and pecs, working the external rotators, and even neck strengthening exercises. For biking, this can involve doing hip flexor, abdominal and pec stretching in addition to strengthening the lumbar muscles with exercises like the Romanian deadlift. We want to finish with a strong run and that relies on a relaxed, tall posture.

Unknowingly, practice makes perfect is a phrase that leads many people to injury. In their efforts to improve quickly, proper technique is often a secondary thought. In swimming and running especially, efficient technique not only prevents wasted energy but minimizes compensatory muscles from doing the major work. Improper bike fit (i.e. seat/handlebar height, crank arm length, aerobar position) is also another way people develop overuse injuries after only a few months of training.

Many of these issues require the help of a competent coach and/or bike fitter. Its a minimal investment when compared to the time and energy cost of missing weeks worth of training when your body says no more. Tackling these issues as well as having a well periodized program that accounts for training volume is fundamental to having a successful triathlon season. Remember, everyone is a little different so if you have any questions, ask a USA Triathlon Certified Coach to get started in the right direction.

Long a ‘Dreamer’ critic, Sessions announces program’s demise – Yahoo News

WASHINGTON (AP) When President Donald Trump scrapped a program benefiting young people who entered the U.S. illegally as children, he left the announcement to the member of his Cabinet who had railed against it the longest and loudest.

It was Attorney General Jeff Sessions, rather than Trump, who stood behind a podium Tuesday and told a bank of television cameras that the program that shielded more than 800,000 young immigrants from deportation was "an unconstitutional exercise of authority" that must be revoked.

"Simply put, if we are to further our goal of strengthening the constitutional order and the rule of law in America, the Department of Justice cannot defend this type of overreach," Sessions said, reading from prepared remarks during a briefing at the Justice Department where he refused to take reporters' questions.

Trump made a campaign promise to end protections for the young immigrants protected by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, program, which benefits youths whose parents brought them to the U.S. illegally as children or whose families overstayed visas. But as president, he has expressed sympathy for the participants, sometimes called "Dreamers," and struggled with the decision. Trump notably chose not to be the face of Tuesday's announcement. But Sessions, an immigration hardliner who had been urging the president to fulfill his campaign promise, seemed willing.

During last year's presidential campaign, the two men bonded over their hawkish views on immigration, and Sessions became the first senator to endorse Trump. In taking to the podium himself, Sessions provided another reminder of his loyalty to Trump's core agenda and to the president himself. It was a sign that tensions between the two are easing after a summer in which Trump publicly berated him in interviews and on social media, incensed over his decision to recuse himself from a probe into Russia's meddling into the election.

As a senator, Sessions was a leading force against efforts to ease immigration restrictions. He relentlessly opposed comprehensive immigration reform in 2013, and fought against a 2010 bill that would have offered a path to citizenship to some young people living in the United States illegally.

"This bill would create an incentive for future illegality since Congress would be sending a message that we have effectively given up enforcement of our immigration laws and instead seek to reward those who enter the country illegally," Sessions said of the bill at the time, warning that it would cost Americans jobs and "provide legal shelter for criminal aliens."

Now at the head of the Justice Department, he has new power to shape America's immigration policy. Sessions said the department had urged Trump to wind down the DACA program ahead of a threatened court challenge from Republican state officials. He told Trump he did not want the Justice Department to defend DACA in court and did not believe it could do so successfully.

Sessions made the announcement instead of Trump because "it was a legal decision, and that would fall to the attorney general," White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said.

But it was clear Sessions' opposition went beyond concern about a possible legal challenge. He called the Obama administration program an "open-ended circumvention of immigration laws" that had "contributed to a surge of unaccompanied minors on the southern border that yielded terrible humanitarian consequences" and cost Americans jobs. DACA supporters reject those claims.

"We've been hearing this sort of stuff from Jeff Sessions for decades," said Adam Luna, a spokesman for United We Dream, whose members protested outside the Justice Department on Tuesday. "It's just same old, same old boilerplate."

The Federation for American Immigration Reform, a group that pushes for strict immigration policies, had grown concerned when Trump did not immediately end DACA. But the organization that long saw an ally in Sessions was reassured by his involvement, Government Relations Director Rob Law said.

"Clearly his guidance and that of other key staffers has really continued turning the campaign promises into actual results," he said.

Still, it's unclear whether Sessions wanted a total and immediate end to the program or if he was satisfied by the administration's compromise. Trump is giving Congress six months to come up with a legislative fix "should it choose to," Sessions said before the government stops renewing permits for people already covered by the program.

"We firmly believe this is the responsible path," he said.

Library news

The folks in this area are so fortunate to have the Charlotte Hobbs Memorial Library and it is shown by the 60 volunteers who helped make the Arts and Artisan Fair such a huge success. Under the direction of Rondi Stearns, this fundraiser, including the artisans, the raffle, the food and the used books made a $12,000 dent in the library budget. A big thanks to all that pitched in and helped.

Now that summer is over, the library will revert back to the so called winter schedule, which means that the library will be closed on Tuesday starting Sept. 12 and many of the programs will resume their winter hours.

The adult book discussion group will be starting up on Monday, Sept. 11, at 1 p.m. The first book for discussion will be Ernest Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea." This was his last work of fiction before he died, which he was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 1953. Later, it was made into a movie. Next month, the library will join in the One Book One Valley and reading the chosen book, "The One-in-a-Million Boy" by Monica Wood. There are books available free of charge at the library.

It's always fun to sit and listen to others tell stories, like when you were a kid. The story swap program will begin on Friday, Sept. 15, from noon to 1:30 p.m. The subject for the stories will be "falling." The first one I can think of is falling in love we all do it. Or falling down. That's what the older folks worry about. Put on your thinking cap and join the group for fun and originality. A five-minute piece picked out of a hat will go well with your bagged lunch.

Lovell Rec

A reminder that the Adult Exercise program starts early this fall on Tuesday, Sept. 5, at 8:30 a.m. at the VFW Hall.

In other news, the Lovell Rec will be running a calendar with prizes for each day of the month. This fundraiser is for playground equipment for the athletic field. Sheets with the item up for raffle can be found in local stores, post office and library. The cost of one ticket is $10 with names drawn for each day on the month. Fun yes?

Beauty Queen Returns Crown After Being Told To Lose Weight … – BET

Miss United Kingdom, Zoiey Smale, has returned her crown to sender after being asked to trim down before the Miss United Continents pageant next month.

The catch is, Zoiey is a U.K. size 10 (which is equivalent to a U.S. size 6). Yep. Were confused too.

Zoiey told The Daily Mail that in July, the national pageant director wanted to share some feedback prior to her next competition.

"She said to me,'They want you to go on a diet plan and they want you to lose as much weight as possible for the finals.' I was like, 'Pardon?'"

The new mom (and foodie) was naturally infuriated, but instead of exchanging insults, she decided to claim headlines. Two weeks after the phone call, Zoiey decided to hand in her hard-earned crown despite a prior hiatus of competing due to the pressures.

In an exclusive with Peoplemagazine, Zoiey shared the statement below:

My body has carried me through my 20+ years of being on this earth, allowed me to have a career I am very proud of, carry a child and the best thing of all, my body has never given up on me, she said. I have had some really amazing experiences through being in the pageant industry and made some lifelong friends and memories. However, I dont believe anyone should be able to manipulate you and dull your sparkle.

If a pageant doesnt want to utilize my capabilities because I am a size 10, then its their loss, sheadded. Its a case of right girl, wrong pageant.

The issue beauty standards is a big one, psychologically damaging to women across the board. While it's true, Zoiey did make the choice to be part of the pageant world, we are huge fans of the way that she defended herself and her right to think her body is beautiful just as it is.

Of course, we applaud working on yourself, but losing an unhealthy amount of weight to get a crown doesn't make you a winner. The way that this organization tried to bully and shame Zoiey is totally inappropriate but, ultimately reflective of how the world puts pressure on women to "look a certain way."

Redefining our set body weight may be the way to lose weight for good – Camden Haven Courier

Been on every diet you can think of? Taking your time may be the solution you're after.

After 30 years of dieting, Lynne Ryan successfully tried the Interval Weight Loss approach. Photo: Jessica Hromas

"I've been on every diet known to man," says Lynne Ryan, a nurse and diabetes specialist who has had a life-long struggle with her weight.

Ryan, 61, has tried low-carb, low-fat, the 'dry sherry diet', the boiled egg diet, Weight Watchers, "everything".

"While I managed to lose weight, I always put it back on and then a few more kilos," says Ryan.

Her experience is common among the 63 per cent of Australian adults who are overweight or obese;95 per cent can losethe weight, but they can't keep it off. In fact, they often end up heavier than when they started.

It is a problem Dr Nick Fuller, from the University of Sydney's Charles Perkins Centre, has sought to address in over a decade of work as an obesity researcher and specialist.

"The reason the scales keep going up is because we are tuned to a set body weight a weight that the body feels most comfortable being," Fuller explains.

When we take our bodies out of that comfort zone by restricting energy through dieting, our body works to counteract the weight loss, slowing down our metabolism, activating our hunger hormones and, when we return to normal eating, storing a little extra fat to "survive the next starvation (otherwise known as a diet)".

Some obesity experts prescribe medications to suppress the hormonal response, but Fuller believes there is another way.

In an approach he has called Interval Weight Loss, Fuller says we can avoid triggering the hormonal cascade by losing a small amount of weight typically 2 to 2.5 kilograms over the course of one month. The weight is then maintained for one month, giving the body and its 'set-point' time to adjust, before another weight-loss "interval" starts.

"To avoid disturbing the equilibrium too muchyou don't ideally want to lose much more than that, and then to negate all of the problems that often come with weight loss, you need to then maintain that weight for the next month to reset what is now your normal body weight before proceeding to lose weight again," Fuller explains. "If you continue to lose weight you will not succeed."

The gradual, comparatively gentle process means there is no need to count calories or restrict food groups. Along with a focus on quality sleep and activity levels, interval weight-loss involves eating five small meals a day of whole foods, including carbohydrates, dairy, eggs, nuts, oil and even chocolate as well as vegetables and fruit.

Ryan was skeptical when she first learned of the approach; one that unlike everything else she had tried did not involve restriction or a constant focus on weight loss.

"I had quite a few robust discussions about me not wanting to actually follow what he was suggesting," she recalls. "The challenge for me was believing that this would work because nothing had before. In the beginning I wanted results immediately. He convinced me that was why I hadn't been successful for the previous 30 years."

After fifteen months on the plan, Ryan lost the 20 kilograms she had been trying to lose. Eight years later, she has kept the weight off.

"I feel fantastic," she says. "I still make breakfast my largest meal of the day [as the plan recommends]. It forever changed my mindset about how you approach weight loss. Previously it was 'on Monday, I'm going to go on this massive diet and I can't eat this and I can't eat that and I can't go out for dinner and I can't do this'. That all changed and suddenly I wasn't on a diet and I was losing weight and most importantly, I was keeping it off."

Fuller believes its success is the fact that it is not a diet.

"It is a realistic lifestyle plan, individually tailored, and scientifically proven," he says. "It helps a person redefine their set body weight so they keep the weight off for good."

What is Hyperemesis Gravidarum? – Ahmedabad Mirror

The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting her third child and is once again suffering from the severe morning sickness which blighted her previous pregnancies. Kate was in early stages of her pregnancy with Prince George when she was admitted to hospital in December 2012 with hyperemesis gravidarum, a rare condition which causes severe vomitting during pregnancy.

Awareness of her tendency to the condition meant her second pregnancy was announced relatively early, rather than waiting for the 12 week milestone, as she cancelled public duties due to sickness. For women suffering hyperemesis gravidarum, the severity of the vomiting can cause dehydration, weight loss and a build-up of toxins in the blood or urine called ketosis. It affects 3.5 per 1,000 pregnant women and can cause women to vomit blood. Symptoms also include severe nausea, low blood pressure and fast heart rate, headaches, lethargy or confusion.

It is treated by giving women fluids intravenously and by anti-sickness tablets. The cause of HG is unknown. The leading theories state that it is an adverse reaction to the hormonal changes of pregnancy. It is more common in multiple pregnancies and is commonly experienced during the first 8 to 12 weeks of pregnancy. A scientific study has given preliminary evidence there may be a genetic component. Symptoms can be aggravated by hunger, fatigue, prenatal vitamins (especially those containing iron), odours, and diet.

In very simple terms hyperemesis means vomiting a lot and gravidarum means in pregnancy, said consultant obstetrician Daghni Rajasingam, spokeswoman for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2014. The diagnosis is given when women cannot keep food or fluid down because she has severe vomitting. The women who are vomitting pretty much constantly, who cannot keep any nutrients down, they need to be admitted to hospital. She said the length of stay in hospital depends on each patient but many women are discharged in a matter of days.

It depends on how well the woman is keeping fluids down, Rajasingam added. She said the condition is thought to be caused by elevated levels of the pregnancy hormone, hCG. The body begins to produce human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) after conception. While cases of very severe, protracted and prolonged periods of vomiting are rare, nausea and vomiting in pregnancy is very common, affecting 60% to 80% of women. About 5% of mothers-to-be will be admitted to hospital during their pregnancy with some degree of the condition, Rajasingam said.

Once admitted, doctors will monitor women and let them go home once they can keep fluids down. Some alternative therapies are used to help reduce the symptoms and duration of the nausea and vomiting, including acupuncture, travel sickness bands, eating ginger and other herbal remedies. The condition is most common in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, Rajasingam added.

Former GM suing PNW Fitness operator – Capitol Hill Times

Editor's Note: The Capitol Hill Times received a copy of Vincent Rubio's lawsuit by mail, in an unaddressed envelope. It is unclear who sent CHT a copy of the lawsuit. To ensure balanced reporting, we acquired a copy of BW Fitness LLC's answer to the allegations in Rubio's claim. We have also left a message with Rubio's attorney, which went unanswered on Tuesday. This story will be updated when more information is available.

The operator of Pacific Northwest Fitness in Capitol Hill is denying allegations by a former general manager that they discriminated against him and created a hostile work environment prior to his firing.

Vincent Rubio claims in his lawsuit that BW Fitness, LLC cofounder Paul Spears made homophobic remarks about him during his time at Pacific Northwest Fitness and, furthermore, shared his religious beliefs to staff and used them when operating the business. Rubio alleges he was wrongfully terminated on March 18, 2015, and that Spears went on to fire several LGBTQ staff members.

BW Fitness denies all discrimination allegations by Rubio, as well as claims by the former general manager that he is still due back pay and damages.

The complaint states Rubio began working as general manager at Pacific Northwest Fitness then a Golds Gym in December 2010. BW Fitness, for which Spears is the registered agent, admits Rubios claim that the Capitol Hill location met a majority of its sales and membership goals while he was there.

Rubio claims Spears dislikes members of the LGBTQ community, and that he believed Rubio was gay. Rubio claims Spears opposed his request to have the Capitol Hill gym participate in the 2010 PrideFest, and that it was former BW vice president Taylor Carrara and Spears business partner, Michael Williams, that green lit that years participation. The former GM alleges the two men then had to convince Spears to let the gym participate in 2011, stating Spears stated his intent to boycott the 2011 PrideFest because the events did not agree with his values as a Christian man.

In its answer to Rubios lawsuit, BW denies Spears opposed PrideFest participation, but did acknowledge Williams and Carrara gave the approval in 2010. BW also denies Rubios claim that Spears needed convincing to participate in the 2011 PrideFest, and that he made negative comments about the LGBT community during the event.

Rubio claims he and Spears frequently disagreed over implementation of LGBT-oriented policies at the gym, such as adding life partners onto gym accounts, transgender bathroom use, and prohibitions of certain tattoos or shirts with LGBT-progressive slogans.

BW Fitness denies these allegations.

Defendants admit the company does not allow family usage of gym accounts and that all gym members must buy single memberships, regardless of their sexual orientation, lifestyle choices, or marital status, according to BWs answer to the lawsuit. Defendants further admit the company allowed its members to use whichever bathroom is consistent with their gender identification.

Rubio claims and BW denies that Spears would often refer to LGBT gym members as your kind when speaking to him, and implied that Rubio engaged in voyeurism in the mens locker room.

Pacific Northwest Fitness had once been a Golds Gym franchisee. BW states it ended the franchisee agreement after the CEO of Golds Gyms parent company, TRT Holdings, gave $2 million to a conservative political group that supported anti-LGBTQ politicians.

Rubio claims a dispute between Spears and Williams resulted in the business partners dividing their authority over BWs locations, with Spears retaining the Capitol Hill and Downtown gyms. BW clarifies that the Downtown gym was never controlled by the LLC.

Defendants admit Mr. Spears and Mr. Williams were business partners before a very acrimonious split in 2014 based, in part, on serious allegations that Mr. Williams had physically molested Mr. Spearss daughter, according to BWs answer to the lawsuit.

There is no one by the name of Michael Williams in King Countys sex offender registry who was convicted of molestation after 2014.

Rubio elected to stay at the Capitol Hill gym for advancement opportunities, which BW denies it suggested, though the LLC states the former general manager was thanked for remaining at that location. The Spears deny telling him he was the number one GM in the company.

BW and Spears deny the cofounder wanted to restructure the locations as a family unit comprised of his family and those who shared his Christian values.

Spears denies in BW Fitness answer to Rubios complaint that he frequently quoted scripture at employee meetings or included religious quotations in company emails. Rubio claims Spears had thought he too was a Christian, finding out the former general manager was an atheist in 2014.

Following this discovery, Mr. Rubio began to experience additional problems in his relationship with Mr. Spears, the complaint states.

BWs answer to the complaint states Spears didnt know Rubio was an atheist until he was told so during the meeting where Rubio was fired. The answer further states Rubio told Spears he was an ordained minister, and that Spears had attended an employees wedding that Rubio officiated.

Rubio was suspended for two days without pay in mid-March 2015 after attending a dinner with Williams, Carrara and his wife in Santa Monica, California.

The former general manager had been in town for the annual International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association (IHRSA) trade show. Spears admits he told Rubio to stay away from Williams and his vice president, Carrara.

Rubio states the dinner did not take place until after Spears had excused him from business matters and he was no longer on company time, which BW denies was the case. In BW and Spears answer to the complaint, they state it was a business dinner, which was paid for by a business vendor.

Spears saw a photo from the dinner on social media. He questioned Rubio about it on March 16, 2015, and then suspended him for two days. Two days later, Spears had Rubio meet him at his private office at a gas station he owns in Redmond, which is where Rubios employment was terminated.

Rubio alleged during that meeting that Spears referred to Williams as the devil, and that he did not want to be within ten miles of anyone who wants anything to do with the devil.

The defendants deny this statement, as well as Rubios claim that Spears told him his firing was personal and not because of his employee performance.

Defendants admit Mr. Rubio was let go because he repeatedly disobeyed instructions, displayed general poor judgment, and was not performing his job satisfactorily, according to BW Fitness answer to Rubios complaint.

BW also denies that Rubio is owed back pay, forward pay or for any commissions during January and February 2015. The LLC further denies that Ryan Ching, who was promoted to take Rubios position as general manager, was in Spears family unit or attended the same church as him. The answer also denies firing several LGBT employees shortly after Rubios termination.

How This Woman Overhauled Her Life to Become a Fitness Queen – Cosmopolitan.com

Sarah Sapora, now 38, had been working up to 17 hours a day in San Francisco when both her parents were simultaneously hospitalized in the summer of 2015. Having long neglected self-care to focus on her career in marketing and public relations, when Sarah flew home to New York City, she struggled to walk the one-and-a-half city blocks between her parking spot and the hospital where her mother was being treated.

"My knees, my energy level, my back they weren't working for me. I was in low-level pain all the time, but I didnt even think about it because that was my normal," says Sarah, who spent much of her adulthood largely inactive. "The realization that my body was in a state where it wasn't thriving opened the door for me to see the other aspects of my life that were also unaligned and not thriving." Between her career and love life, everything was falling short of her expectations.

Sarah decided to overhaul her lifestyle and has since developed strength, confidence, and pride by doing high-intensity workouts, which she's been sharing with her 112K Instagram followers since her journey officially began 11 months ago. (She began posting on a dedicated fitness page, @GreaterAt40, but moved over to her current, personal account, @SarahSapora, in February.) Now, the fitspirational influencer is getting ready to lead her first-ever body-positivity workshop on September 16 in Los Angeles.

Sarah was inspired to change after seeing both her own capabilities fall short, and her mother fall ill so suddenly, but she didn't begin to make moves until months after she returned to California. "I was just really ready to do the difficult work and threw myself into this personal-growth mindset," she says. "The first step was completely mental, [actually] believing my life could be different if I could let it be different."

Her parents' hospitalization had coincided with the end of a grueling job, so when she returned to California, she decided to become an independent consultant working for herself. "I wanted to do more, contribute to something more than a bosss dream, and leave this planet better than when I found it," she says she also started doing Kundalini yoga, a meditation-based practice she credits for her emotional growth.

Just show up. I say this all the time, but do you understand what I mean? I had a challenging night last night, I was overwhelmed and hanging out with my fear pretty close. I needed help sleeping, because each time I slowed my mind enough to breathe and say "faith" and "surrender" to myself, tears choked my mind and I started to cry again. This is ALL ok. And feeling things doesn't make me less of a woman or less strong. Feeling is the ONLY way I work and process stuff -- if I don't look my fear head on, I can never put it aside. This morning, I was exhausted and hungover from crying. I slept through my 6 am alarm and wanted to stay in bed. But I got out of bed anyway. I had signed up for a Kundalini Yoga class at 8:30. I knew I didn't have enough in me to lay it all out on my mat today, but I went anyway. I sat in the back. To be there. To breathe. To get out of my own head and to tap into the things that are bigger than me. To be in the energy. To show up. To show up so I can keep moving forward. Fear is standing in one place, spinning my own wheels and getting stuck in my own mud. Love is moving forward. Love isn't being perfect or getting everything right, it's just the willingness to keep going. Keep going. Show up. You may not have the answers but you stay alive. You stay present and you work on having faith in the idea that sometimes you just don't get to know. Sometimes you have to believe in things you can't see or touch. Things that you dont get evidence for. You just show up and believe because Hope is human. Thank you to @nourishandeat for last night and holding space for me without judgment. And thank you to @strike.a.kjord for creating the space this morning and letting me be part of the ride from the sidelines. #selfcare #selflove #kundaliniyoga #BeGreater #FindYourGreater

In addition to stepping away from intense corporate work, she also began working out with a trainer, Blake Elarbee. Beginning with simple bodyweight movements, she then progressed to lifting actual weights at the gym. "I love strength training. It makes me feel strong and sexy and powerful," she says, rejecting the common concern that weight training bulks you up.

She now strength trains two to three times a week for one hour per session, which might include "a gazillion squats," free weights, bench press, and machines such as the leg press, where she can press 700 pounds. "I love the feeling of having strong legs," she says. "My legs are ninjas."

While Sarah used to take the elevator to her second-story apartment, her trainer now uses a drill to assess Sarah's progress: Every so often, she'll run up six flights up to seven times for speed, or climb while holding 25- to 50-pound weights to build strength and endurance. "It doesn't feel amazing while you're doing it," Sarah says. "But I embrace the suck. I'm not afraid to be bad at things."

When the struggle is real, Sarah is upfront with her followers she posts photos of herself while out of breath and uber sweaty.

"Progress and growth don't necessarily look like shiny Instagram photos it can be sweaty and hard when you're out of breath and your hair is messed up, and you feel like youre going to barf," she says. "And that's OK. I want people to see my process in a real way."

While she feels more emotionally fulfilled by her current lifestyle than ever before, she says her journey's not over. "There's no before-and-after when it comes to happiness," she says.

For Sarah, that means surpassing her leg-press record and performing an unassisted push-up a feat she's working toward. "I want my body to support whatever I want to do, like hike and scuba dive and go to Iceland and walk everywhere," she says.

Just last week, Sarah walked five miles outdoors for the first time a clear sign she's moving in the right direction. "If I can empower one woman to make a change, no matter what shes done in the past," she says, "I'm doing my job."

Gym Lovers Wed at Planet Fitness in Very Purple and Yellow Ceremony – Jezebel

What would it take for me to get married inside a Planet Fitness? I think that even if all that was left on Earth was me, another person, wedding stuff, and a Planet Fitness, I would just play with the wedding stuff outside. Theres simply no amount of pizza on the first Monday of every month that could convince me otherwise.

Other people feel differently, and thats what makes life a rich and rewarding mystery. Well, a small part of it at least. Joseph Keith III and Stephanie Hughes tied at the knot in a Cincinnati Planet Fitness on Sunday (it wouldnt be the first time), as evidenced by this video that the gym seems to have had a heavy hand in producing.

Im not punching holes in this storywhen it comes to love I believe anything anyone says, even if its heavily advertorialI just find it curious that the couple reportedly did date nights at the gym sometimes and exchanged their first I love yous in the Planet Fitness parking lot. Their wedding website purports that the couple met at their Planet Fitness gym when Joseph asked Stephanie if she was done using a piece of equipment. Youd think Planet Fitness was some kind of hybrid of dating app, church, and workout facility. When really its a gym whose bonus features include little spray bottles full of water to sanitize machines with, and thats really all thats coming to mind at the moment.

I realize that this is ultimately promotional material, and thats ok too. But it makes me wonder whom this is supposed to appeal to because, as we all know, Planet Fitness is a judgment free zone, which makes it unsuitable for dating, and certainly for finding a life partner. It is, however, a great place to go to remember to hydrate. And Ill vouch for their thorough integration of yellow and purple into everything they make. Since Im not at the gym, I neednt go further than that.

Why Planet Fitness, Inc. Climbed 12% in August – Motley Fool

What happened

Shares of Planet Fitness (NYSE:PLNT), one of the largest and fastest-growing fitness-center operators in the United States, climbed 12% in August, according to data provided by S&P Global Market Intelligence. The stock's rise was, most likely, driven primarily by solid second-quarter results and an analyst's 12-month price-target increase for the stock.

For its second quarter, Planet Fitness reported revenue of $107.3 million and adjusted earnings per share of $0.22. These figures were up 17% and 29% year over year, respectively, exceeding analysts' consensus estimates for the quarter.

After Planet Fitness reported its second-quarter results, Roth Capital analyst Dave King said strong membership growth and margin improvement led him to increase his price target on the stock from $23 to $27.

Planet Fitness's nice year-over-year rise in revenue was helped during the quarter by impressive same-store sales growth of 9%. The rise in same-store sales extended a trend of growth in the key metric, marking the company's 42nd consecutive quarter of same-store sales growth.

Thanks to growth in its high-margin franchise segment, Planet Fitness' earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) increased 30% year over year.

After the better-than-expected results, management increased its guidance for full-year results. Planet Fitness now expects full-year 2017 revenue between $409 million and $415 million, up from a previous guidance range of $405 million to $415 million. Similarly, management now expects same-store sales growth of 8% to 9% during this period, up from a previous expectation of 7% to 8%.

CEO Christopher Rondeau was optimistic in looking ahead:

I am confident that our compelling concept and powerful brand recognition combined with unmatched systemwide leadership and resources will allow us to capitalize on opportunities that drive long-term value for our shareholders.
