Aye moti/u! Kam kha, moti/a horahi/a hain. Size dekha hain? Haathi lag raha hain!
How many times do you chance upon such comments on your social feed, in a day? I am safely assuming, quite a lot. Thats because there are people who sit behind the HD screens and enjoying taking a dig at someones body shape/size. And, we fondly (or not-so-fondly) call these people fat-shamers, body-shamers or trolls.
But, my question is, how did one gain such authority or even a nerve to comment about someone elses features or body structures? Are they SO perfect themselves that they get the right to find or point out flaws in others? Oh, wait! Even that doesnt give anyone any right.
Still, our timelines are filled with such dark souls who go ninja-typing while commenting on someones photo, status or message them personally. Sometimes it is none other than our very own relatives. And, something similar happened with Sejal Pradhan.
Random jerk of a relative on Facebook (whos never even spoken to me before in person) messages this out of nowhere. Looks like social media hasnt given them enough doses about body shaming already. But Im ready to offer my two pennies worth to people like him in need.
Heres some help: My weight, whether I gain it, lose it or keep it the same is in no way asking for your opinion. Have I ever asked for one? No. Do I look disheartened about my body and am I seeking sympathy? No.
So please keep your downright crass and judgmental opinions to yourself.
To start with, scrutinise your mother/girlfriend/wifes weight gain/loss trend over the years and conduct a thorough analysis. This way, youll end up being a little less ignorant about the factors triggering it. That might surely help. And only after youve successfully cleared this stage of your investigation, wrack your pea-sized brain some more and think before you speak or type, to the rest of the world. Because every single person out there knows their own struggle, or probably theyre completely content with the body they have and arent struggling at all!
Oh, and just in case you were thinking that you cracked a good joke here by pointing out to my weight, Im sorry you were not even close. Maybe I could point out to that belly of yours that you could occasionally use as a table to have a good laugh but no, I dont class it as humour. Because nobody is obliged to look a certain size/shape/colour just to please your eyes. And most importantly, kindly get a life. Im sure there are ample real issues around you that would require your valuable perusal, rather than pondering over how Im miraculously gaining weight with every passing hour.

COLUMBUS, Ga. For some people going to the gym can be intimidating or a hassle. If you are determined to lose weight, but dont have time in your schedule to hit the gym News 3s Ashley Lewis has a few workouts that you can do at work behind the desk or at home.
Trainers at R.A.M. Fit in Columbus say interval training workouts are the best way to burn calories and lose weight fast.
This 20 minute high intensity workout does wonders to the body.
What youll need to get started: two 5 or 10 pound weights, a yoga mat and a chair.
We started the workout with squats, walking lunges, and one minute of running in place.
Next push-ups, v crunches and weight training.
Its important to keep your heart rate up, so push yourself. 10 reps for each set.
Try to avoid taking extra breaks in between sets unless needed.
Once you finish the first time through, do it all over again until your 20 minutes is complete.
Although the gym provides group fitness motivation, if youre willing to set aside 20 minutes a day you can do a variety of interval training workouts that are just as effective.

This is Lottie LAmour.
Shes a plus size, body positive fashion blogger who models in everything from bikinis to jumpsuits.
As such, shes not bothered about losing weight. Shes owning her body and spends her time promoting positive self image.
And shes big on the body positive circuit so youd think that any TV researcher thinking of asking her to take part in any project would be aware of what she stands for, bearing in mind that her social media channels are literally dedicated to promoting plus size beauty.
But apparently not.
Because a TV production company recently got in touch with her to ask if shed want to take part in a new dieting show and she wasnt happy.
Twofour emailed Lottie to ask if she wanted to take part in Save Money, Good Health a new show where contestants road-test new diets.
They were looking for people who would actively like to lose weight and are open to trialing out a new diet.
Unfortunately, they managed to leave the wrong name in the email,saying Hi Gloria (because theyd contacted several other plus size bloggers including YouTuber Gloria Shuri Henry).
They clearly also hadnt bothered to do any research about Lottie to even think that shed want to be involved.
Clearly you havent read my blog, she wrote.
I dont want to go on a faddy show about diet culture. I believe that women can feel good in whatever skin they are in and that diet culture is a money making scheme that hinges on making people feel terrible about who they are
Its frankly disgusting that youve obviously gone looking for plus-size bloggers thinking you will find fat women that would want to lose weight not all fatties want to lose weight, we are not easy prey for diet culture. If you had read my blog you would know this.
And she posted a follow-up on Instagram a few days later along side a picture of her in a bikini, not giving two f*cks.
It was so obvious that this researcher had just gone looking for plus size bloggers, assuming that because we are fat, we automatically want to lose weight, she said.
Not all fat women want to lose weight just as not all fat women want to stay the weight they are. Assuming that because we are fat we must want to lose weight is piss poor.
We dont have to be a before photo all the time our bodies deserve to be visible without assumption that we are working to get thinner. Some of us arent, some of us are working to love the skin we are in because we are deserving of it. My body is beautiful, and so is yours in whatever state of weight loss or not.

Eventually Twofour did apologise to Lottie, saying that the reason theyd got in touch with her was because (she) has a voice and is not afraid of speaking (her) mind which is something (they) look for and admire in contributors, especially in this series when (they) want people to take part in some health trials.
We understand not everyone wants to lose weight but we are contacting people far and wide on the internet and vloggers are a huge influence on getting messages out to their followers.
So at least theyre honest about the fact that all they care about are numbers.

Being a bridesmaid is pretty straight forward, right? Help your bestie"say yes to the dress", be there to talk venues and colour schemes, arrange a rocking hen's night, wear whatever lovely gown she's selected for her bridal party - and help her go to the bathroom, in her dress, on her big day.
Well, that's how it used to be. According to a recent article in theNew York Post,in2017 being a bridesmaid can bea whole lot more complicated - and apparently social media is to blame.
In the quest to achieve a picture-perfect, Instagram-worthy wedding, brides are routinely asking their friends, their nearest and dearest, to lose weight. Yep, just let that one sink in slowly.
Take 30-year-old Ashley Barton, who "suggested" all her bridesmaids get fit for her big day. Oh,and that they also use hair extensions. One of her bridesmaids just gave birth, too. Barton toldthe publication the new mumcould "stand to drop a few pounds".
"I need everyone on board," she said. "I want my guests to invest in their appearances, feel pretty, go buy the dress of their dreams and feel confident in themselves. I want everyone to feel and look beautiful."
Sadly, Barton'snot aBridezillaanomaly. Bride-to-beWhitney Tingle, 31, is also encouraging herbestiesto lose weight ahead of her nuptials, via special - and not at all cheap - "clean eating"diet plans.
And two years ago, a young woman'sredditpostwent viral after she shared that her friendhad issued a similar request, to ensure her bridesmaids looked "consistent".
"Yesterday, (the bride)took me aside and directly said to me that she wants me to try to drop a 'dress size or two'before the wedding because she wants all of the bridesmaids to, her words, 'have a consistent look'and I am 'noticeablyheavier' than the other bridesmaids," the distressedReddituser posted.
In addition, while bridal parties of yesteryear might have splashed out on a pre-weddingmani/pedi, a bonding session ahead of the big day, these days plastic surgeons are seeing bridal parties come in for bonding fillers and botox.
"It's the bride's day, and she wants not only the day to be perfect, the weather to be perfect, the dress to be perfect she wants her bridal party to be perfect because it's a reflection of her," said plastic surgeon Norman Rowe.
Oh dear me.
I can completely understand why women wantto look their best when they say "I do". That's a bride's prerogative. It's not breaking news that mostwomen exercise or diet or growtheir fringes outin the lead-up to their big day. But to expect yourfriends to adhere to what you, personally, consider "perfect"or "beautiful" or "ideal" is blisteringly unfair. And, to be frank, just flat-out wrong.
I mean sure, if your mates want to get on board withyour bridal boot camp and green juice cleanses for their own health, and having a goal to work towards ishelpful, then that's a completely different story. But otherwise, honestly, the mind boggles. Our friends are our friends because we love who they are - not what theylook like.
There is nothing reasonable or OK or understandable about asking your bridesmaids to lose weight foryourwedding. Do what you want for your special day. Ride in on a unicorn, dance to "Endless Love",rap your wedding vows - whatever floats your boat.
But for the love of confetti, don't ask your bridesmaids to change who they are, beyond asking them to wear taffeta and pink nail polish.
Because that's worse than being aBridezilla. It's just plain rude.
And surely it's not worthtorching a friendshipfor a few extra likes onInstagram.

What happens when the Mediterranean diet and the DASH diet meet? The MIND diet, a combination worth considering to help you stay mentally sharp as you get older.
If the Mediterranean diet and the DASH diet had a baby, it would be the MIND diet. If you want to up the odds of staying mentally sharp as you get older, its a way to eat thats worth considering.
The Mediterranean diet has a well-established track record of promoting overall good health while reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and cancer. The DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet is a similarly healthy eating plan that is effective for lowering high blood pressure.
While both of those ways of eating have been shown to have benefits for brain health, reducing the risk of cognitive decline from dementia and Alzheimers disease, the MIND (Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay) diet is tailored to fit the current science, taking the best of both diets and going a step further. It was developed by Martha Clare Morris, a nutritional epidemiologist at Rush University Medical Center, through a study funded by the National Institute on Aging.
Theres no cure for Alzheimers disease, and even the approved treatments are not all that effective, so this really points to the importance of prevention, said Fran Grodstein, ScD professor of medicine at Brigham and Womans Hospital at Harvard Medical School, speaking at the Nutrition & Health Conference in Phoenix in May. If we can make some changes at the earliest stages [of Alzheimers], we dont need to worry about treatments or cures.
The most significant shifts the MIND diet makes are in its recommendations for vegetables, fruit and fish. For the effects of fish on brain health, the biggest difference is between people who eat no fish and those who eat at least one serving per week especially among those at high risk of Alzheimers. Research shows that eating a lot of vegetables especially green leafy vegetables is associated with slower cognitive decline, but when it comes to fruit, researchers only saw a difference with a few servings of berries each week.
Higher intake of fruit wasnt bad, but it wasnt providing any substantial benefits in terms of memory, Grodstein said. Blueberries and strawberries to a lesser extent differ because they are rich in anthocyanins, a type of phytonutrient that has positive effects on the areas of the brain that affect learning and memory.
What I love about the MIND diet is that its simple, attainable, and a promising way to keep the brain healthy, said Maggie Moon, MS, RDN, a Los Angeles-based registered dietitian nutritionist and author of the book The MIND Diet. There are no outlandish foods or overly restrictive rules. Its actually simpler than either the DASH or Mediterranean diets. And at the end of the day, its heart healthy and provides good nutrition for just about anyone.
Moon said that while the Mediterranean and DASH diets appear to reduce the risk of Alzheimers disease only if followed strictly, the MIND diet was effective even when followed less closely. Following most guidelines cut the risk of Alzheimers disease in half and kept the brain 7.5 years younger. Following about half of them still reduced the risk by 35 percent, she said. A randomized clinical trial is underway that will directly test the effects of the MIND diet compared with a standard control diet, based on the following 15 guidelines.
10 food groups to include more of:
Green leafy vegetables: Six or more servings per week
Other vegetables: Seven or more servings per week
Nuts: Five or more servings per week
Berries: Two or more servings per week
Beans: Four or more meals per week
Whole grains: Three or more servings per day
Fish (fin fish, not fried): One or more meals per week
Poultry (not fried): Two or more meals per week
Olive oil: Use as primary oil
Wine: 1 glass per day
Five food groups to include less of:
Red meat: Less than four meals per week
Butter and stick margarine: Less than one serving per week
Cheese: Less than one serving per week
Pastries and sweets: Less than five servings per week
Fast food: Less than once per week
So what can you do today to make your meals more MIND-worthy?
Double down on dark-green leafy vegetables. Keep greens like kale, arugula, collard greens and spinach washed and ready to go so you can enjoy some daily.
Keep fresh or frozen blueberries on hand. Toss some fresh blueberries and walnuts on an arugula salad for a brain-boosting trifecta. Add them to oatmeal or smoothies.
Plan at least one fin fish meal for this week. Fish with fins especially salmon, sardines and anchovies are rich sources of brain-healthy (and heart-healthy) omega-3 fatty acids. If you enjoy shellfish, have it in addition to not instead of your one fin fish meal.
Cook a batch of whole grains and a pot of beans (drained, rinsed canned beans are OK, too) and use them in meals throughout the week.
Have a serving of nuts for a snack or sprinkle them on one of those leafy green salads.
I love that you can take the concepts of the MIND diet and apply them to any global cuisine, Moon said. As a result, even going gluten free in the same way people go half-vegetarian, or vegan once a week, can be a great compromise. When you avoid gluten, you avoid a whole host of foods that are bad for you for a litany ofotherreasons, so cutting them out of your diet periodically will do nothing but bring you health benefits, and youll also learn to appreciate the treats more when you decide to have them.
With summer just approaching, everyone is ready to lose some weight before hitting the beach. Eating gluten free foods is a healthy and natural way to shed those few extra pounds. Instead of going on a crazy diet and not eating anything, you will have the same effect by eating the right things for your body.
You will also be able to feel stronger and more fit if you structure your weight loss around gluten free foods. You will be able to eat an appropriate amount throughout the day, meaning you wont feel weak and tired like you would if you simply restricted yourself from eating.
