Workouts release endorphins, the feel-good hormones that lead to happiness. It is the easiest and simplest connection to happiness levels. It also relieves you from stress which is good not only for you, but for your workforce also.

Why? Its good for your workforce because when you are happy you will be more approachable for your workers. Being less irritating and less stressed will make you a friendly boss. Now thats a win-win situation for both the parties, isnt it?

When you are in the best of your health you can always welcome your employees in a cheerful mood. Moreover, when you yourself know the importance of good health, you will imbibe the same in your clan. This will increase fitness in your organization on an overall basis. If the helm of the firm is a healthy person, the company cannot fall sick, neither can the employees.

This is just how the adage goes that if you keep the head of the house happy, the family stays happy. In the same way, when the head of the company maintains and promotes fitness, you know how great the outcome is going to be.

So, dear entrepreneurs; dont let a busy schedule become your reason to skip a workout. Get up and get going!

In terms of a type, she says shes usually after someone with the gift of the gab and needs men to have something between their ears.

I do see a lot of good bodies on men in my job and I like that, dont get me wrong, Gabriellesays.

I just dont need to hear about how many chicken breasts he has for breakfast.

Love Island sends a host of singletons looking for a good time over to a luxurious villa for a summer of passion.

Known for its hot and heavy sex scenes, the contestants are encouraged to pair up and convince the public they have found love.

In a twist at the end of the series, the winning couple are asked to either split the cash, or take the entire 50,000 pot home for themselves talk about putting your love to the test!

Before the weight loss Liz Paice and Wendy Kenney tipped the scales at 28st each but gastric bypass surgeries have caused the weight to fall off.

32-year-old Liz let her weight spiral out of control with binges on Caramac bars, family-sized pies and huge fry ups.

Since the operation, she has lost an astonishing 17st and now weighs just 11st and is a size 14.

Liz said: "I have two daughters and I wanted to live to see them grow up.

"I watched my mum have horrible health problems, and I saw myself mirrored in her.

"It came to a point where I'd yo-yo dieted a lot and I needed to do something about it.

Liz realised her weight was a problem around three years ago and it took her a further two years before she could get the gastric bypass surgery on the NHS.

She added: I went to the hospital for classes to help change my way of thinking when it came to food and to identify the source of my eating.

"My problems with eating started when I was young - I used to secretly eat and used it as an emotional crutch.

"I used to eat 100 profiteroles, 150 Caramac bars, hot dogs out of the tin - that sort of thing.

The weight loss has had a positive impact on the family as Lizs eldest daughter Allison has even joined the gym at just age 11 so she can lose weight.

Lizs mother, 52-year-old Wendy also jumped on board the weight loss journey after she was forced to use a mobility scooter because of her weight.

Devon-based Wendy said: "I got to the stage where I couldn't walk or look after myself, and I needed help going to the toilet.

"I just thought 'I can't continue'. I'd been big all my life, yo-yo dieting, and I'd tried literally everything.

"In 2014 it became so bad I got a mobility scooter, and my husband told me that would be it if I got one, I'd always use it.

"I was 27 stone - I had to do something.

Wendy explained she was encouraged to eat as much as possible growing up which included a lot of starchy and fried foods, puddings and all big portions.

This philosophy followed her into adulthood and he would find herself eating an entire family pie for dinner some nights.

She explained: "I'd just eat anything I could get my hands on, washed down with four or five high fat milkshakes.

Wendy explained watching her daughter transform her life encouraged her to make a change.

Now, she has dropped from 27st to just 10st and a svelte size 14.

Wendy worked with a dietician to work out a revised eating plan and she also joined an assisted gym.

"The dietician really helped with what was better to eat - lots of protein, then fruit and veg, then carbs at the end of a meal if I had space left.

"I also used the assisted gym to help me lose weight, and joined the British Obesity Surgery Patients Association, which really helped keep me motivated.

"Liz made the first step, and I thought if she was doing it, I ought to."

Liz said it was great to go through this journey with her mother: "It's somebody to talk about meals with and exercise together.

"Because we've been losing weight at different times, we can swap clothes with each other.

"She's been a great emotional support, because there's someone else going through the same stuff."

For successful weight loss dieting, check blood sugar and insulin – The San Diego Union-Tribune

Success on a weight-loss diet can be predicted by measuring a persons blood sugar and fasting insulin levels, according to a study presented at the American Diabetes Association meeting in San Diego.

Moreover, effective weight loss and control in some can be achieved without restricting calories, as long as the diet is rich in fiber.

The international study examined data from six studies of different diets designed to improve nutrition. It found that those biomarkers consistently predicted losing weight and keeping it off.

The kinds of diets that work depend on whether a patients blood sugar level is higher than normal as in prediabetes, or high enough to indicate diabetes. Results were presented at the American Diabetes diseaseAssociation 77th Scientific Sessions.

Those with type 2 diabetes can lose weight on a diet rich in plant fats, such as those from olive and avocado oil.

A fiber-rich diet without calorie restrictions is successful for many with prediabetes, the study found. Carbohydrate and fat intake should be adjusted according to fasting insulin levels.

"Remarkably, for many patients, use of these biomarkers can lead to a six- to seven-fold greater weight loss," said study leader Arne Astrup. He is head of the Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark.

"Going forward, we can educate patients when a diet they planned to follow would actually make them gain weight, and redirect them to a strategy that we know will work for them."

The study also included researchers from the University of Colorado, Tufts University, Centro de Investigacin Biomdica en Red de Fisiopatologa de la Obesidad y Nutricin (CIBER OBN) and Gelesis, Inc.

The study fits in with other research indicating that weight loss diets need to be matched to an individuals own metabolic profile.

And for the diets to really stick, they cant be temporary, but part of a changed lifestyle that people can embrace without feeling deprived.

We often hear about the last few pounds to lose. But what about when you have a whole 20 to go? A two-day juice cleanse isnt going to do the trick (nor is it usually healthy). Here are some lifelong tips to help you lose (and keep off) those 20 pounds for good.

Eating less is a good thing when youre trying to lose weight, but restricting your calories too low may lead to binges and send you into the evil cycle of yo-yo dieting.

However, if youre eating to the point of starving your body of necessary calories, your body adjusts by going into protection mode (it wants to preserve stored fuel) and slows down. In most cases, this means muscle loss. If youre having trouble losing weight, try keeping a food journal and take a close look to see if youre skimping on fuel.

This step may take a little time to learn. But I urge you to be patient with yourself, because becoming comfortable understanding your hunger quotient will definitely pay off. Getting used to eating to the point of contentedness, and not fullness, is crucial to long-term weight loss. When you conquer this tool, regardless of what youre eating, you will never dramatically overconsume.

Meticulously counting calories will end up being more frustrating than useful. Calories in versus calories out is an old way of thinking. There is much more involved with losing weight (hormones and hydration to name a couple) than calories.

Focus on nutrient-dense, low-calorie foods such as vegetables to bulk up your meals. Also, lean protein (such as fish, poultry or plant protein) and a little bit of healthy fat at every meal.

Sip H2O throughout the day. Staying hydrated is majorly important whether youre looking to lose 5, 10, 20 or 50 pounds. Heard this before? Betcha have. But are you doing it? No better time to start than now. Drinking water is important for all cellular functions, and hydration aids in weight loss. Not only that, the brain easily confuses thirst for hunger.

One meal will not change your body. It will take a consistent effort of many changes over time. Again, one meal will not change your body. So, dont get stressed and obsess over every meal or snack gone wrong.

Being in the correct emotional state while trying to lose weight is just as important as what you eat. Throw out the throw in the towel mindset and believe that you can and you will lose weight. Even if you slip up and have a chocolate chip cookie.

Are there certain snacks you keep around your house that you cant help but nibble on? Is your desk at work so messy that you have a hard time focusing on a simple task? Cleaning, clearing out and decluttering what you can control will make a big difference in making improvements in your diet. Re-doing your morning routine is also a way to take control of your environment and routine.

Losing weight does not mean you have to swear off raw cookie dough forever. Youre working on instilling new practices and habits into your everyday life, and that also means relearning how to indulge. When you indulge youre actually more likely to stay on track with your new eating plan.

Choose your absolute favorite indulgence when the time is right, and skip the rest. Be conscious about what youre eating in the moment and take time to enjoy the indulgence. This is different from reaching your hand over and over into a bag of M&Ms until the moment youre surprised theyre gone. If youre at your best friend's birthday party, and someone brought cookie dough, have a scoop. And enjoy the indulgence as part of the event and move right back onto your kale salad.

The success of that quaint premise would end up changing the entire entertainment landscape, turning unscripted programming into must-see TV and send networks racing to find their own flagship competition shows to add to the mix.

In fact, ABC just went ahead and picked upAmerican Idol for itself after Fox decided it was time to pack it in after15 seasons.

The question of whether ABC's version will be a shell of its former self (basically an extension of the conversation that started aroundseason 13 or so) or whether Fox foolishly gave up on a classic is still to be answered.

Not that everything was perfect right out of the gate. The show didn't need two hosts.Ryan Seacrest had brought his earnestly frosted '90s hair with him.No one quite knew what this acerbicSimon Cowell character was about yet. And it was on during the summera situation Fox immediately remedied the following season once the network knew it had a hit on its hands.

Irrefutably glorious and cringe-worthy moments would pile up over the years. Eventually Seacrest was the onlyringmaster left from the original show, with Randy Jacksonopting to leave after 12 seasons. The formula persisted. On every season premiere, right up until the end, Ryan's introduction and then the strains of the theme song never failed to delight. It's no one's fault that there are just so many darn shows now, many only in existence because Idol came first, that it becamehard to get that excited about an entireIdol season.

Or maybe it'sIdol's fault.Its last year at the top of the prime-time ratings,2011, was also the yearThe Voice premiered.

Fault is such a strong word.

YetinAmerican Idol's earliest days, there was nothing like it. More polish would be added, the production would become slicker in due time and the show would start firing on allcylinders a few seasonslater, whenin 2005 it became the most-watched seriesof the year (the two nights a week it was on were No. 1 and 2), despite only being on from January to May (half of the barely still in existence "traditional" TV season).

But it was Kelly Clarkson's triumphant sprint to the finish line in 2002 that started it all. She's the first one, out of all of the aspiring starswho would follow in her wake, to comeout of nowhere and become exactly whatIdol promised its winners they'd become.

In honor of the anniversary of one of the biggest TV game-changersof all time,this is Kelly's inaugural AmericanIdol journey:

The first round of auditions were held inLos Angeles, New York, Chicago, Dallas, Seattle, Atlanta and Miami. Roughly 10,000 people tried out.

"The numbers were nothing like what they are now," executive producer Ken WarwicktoldBillboardlast year, "but it was good enough. We got Kelly Clarkson out of it, didn't we?! There were fewer people, but the talent level was a bit higher because no one had ever done it before."

A then 20-year-old Clarkson tried out in Dallas at the Wyndham Anatole hotel,wearing a strapless denim top she'd crafted herself out of a pair of jeans. The Burleston, Texas, nativehad already moved to L.A.and back after not being able to make a living as a singer during her first go-round. She waited tables, worked as an extra and came across "expert" after "expert" who told her she needed to lose weight, her voice wasn't right, blah blah blah. When the apartment she'd been sharing caught fire in 2002, she tried living out of her car for a bit, but then decided to cut her losses and go back to Texas.

Her outfit and sweet demeanor caught the producers' attention outside the audition room, and she was one of the bunch who got a little extra face time with the camera before her tryout.

"I'm going to be a fashion designer if this doesn't work out," joked Clarkson, who had been working as a cocktail waitress and a part-time Red Bull promoter in Texas. "Call it a hunch, but we don't think Kelly's going to need that plan," ye olde co-host Brian Dunkleman intoned as she went in to meet the judges and audition with a few bars of Madonna's "Express Yourself."

"I love that song. I worked on that song, Madonna, you did a very good job," Randy offered, prompting immediate snickers from Paula and Simon, who were already used to Randy'sname-dropping ways.

Have we forgotten that Kelly's one of the few hopefuls to ever get Randy out of his chairand into the spotlight, no less? "Not in a trillion, billion years will this man ever make it to Hollywood," Simon observed.

However, none of this was seen on Idol's series premiere.Clarkson was cute and talented, but as a vocalist she didn't stand out all that muchand she ended up being the only eventual winner whowasn't featured during the regional audition round. (She was obviously worth the highlight by the timeAmerican Idol Rewind aired in syndication in2010.)

DuringHollywood Week (which aired the day after the premiere), Kelly wowed almost everyone with herunaccompanied rendition of Vanessa Williams' "Save the Best for Last."

But yes, thatwas Simon saying quietly at the judges' table, "I just don't like this girl."

Despite Simon's reservations, Clarkson made the top 30, from which only 10 would move onto the live shows.

"I honestly don't know what to say," the still-unforgiving Simon told Clarkson after her semifinal performance of "Respect." "You have a good voice. But I couldn't remember you from the previous rounds, other than the fact did you not swap places with Randy?" His memory jogged, he added, "That's the only thing I can remember."

Still,Kelly advanced. Joining her from her group of 10 were Justin Guarini and A.J. Gill.

So, the inauguralIdol top 10 consisted of Clarkson, Guarini, Gill, Nikki McKibbin, Tamyra Gray, R.J. Helton, Christina Christian, Ryan Starr, Jim Verraros and EJay Day.

Withthat, Simon Cowell's reputation for getting it right every time was born.

But now it was up to America to actually pick up the phonethere was no other way to do it yetand vote.

When the top 10 performed on July 16, 2002, Motown Week, Kellypowering through laryngitiswent with Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell's "You're All I Need to Get By."

And that was indeed all she needed, because even Simon complimented that she had just "raised the game."

The next night, she found out she had made the Top 8.

The following week, '60s Week, Clarkson's rendition of "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" became one of her signatureIdol performances.

Top 7, '70s Week, she didn't fall into the disco trap, choosing Ben E. King's "Don't Play That Song (You Lied)." By then, she had three fully sold fans at the judges' table, Simon having forgotten his initial issues with "remembering" who Kelly was.

By the end of July, she had a Patsy Cline-reminiscent quality to her voice and Cowell was predicting she'd never forget her fans if she made the big time.

Justin Guarini survived landing in the bottom 2 that week to sing another day.

Top 6, Big Band Week, Clarkson warbled Betty Hutton's "Stuff Like That There." Paula called her a "triple threat," someone she could picture on TV,on film and on stage.

Top 5, Burt Bacharach Week(Idol also was fairly instrumental in teaching a new generation about the classics, while also providing entertainment that parents and grandparents wanted to watch too).

Kelly's rendition of "Walk on By" didn't earn the highest marksRandy went with "not your best week," Paula started with "interesting choice" and Simon focused on had she'd already proven herself.

Simon also claimed that, at first, "we didn't pick up on you early in this competition," though it wasn't exactly "we," was it?

But Clarkson was safely into the Top 4, two songs apiece, '80s and '90s.

"It's Raining Men" was a crowd-pleaser, as it always is pretty much wherever it's sung.

Her second song was Cline Dion's "I Surrender," impressing even Randy, who spent 12 years decrying the difficulty of singing "the big three," Cline, MariahCarey and Whitney Houston. Simon even said Kelly had put herself in the same league as those divas.

It was around this time thatIdolproducers revealed that about 100 "phone phreaks" had set up software that was allowing them to auto-dial in as many as 10,000 votes apiece at a time. But Fremantle Media insisted the robo-votes were "statistically insignificant" when it came to the overall total of votes being dutifully phoned in properly.

Meanwhile, Clarkson went through to the Top 3, but it was the end of the road for Tamyra Gray, an early favorite whom all of the show's head honchos had picked to go all the way from day one.

Instead, Kelly, Justin and Nikki were the last contestants standing.

After the big hometown visit, where she was shocked to find hundreds of people cheering outside her old high school, Kelly went with more Cline, "Think Twice"a song choice that the judges weren't loving.

But she ended the show on a high note, or many high notes, with Badfinger's "Without You."

And into the finale she went, with Justin Guariniwho, along with Tamyra, had been an early pick to make the finale.

On Sept. 3, 2002, Clarkson sang three songs: "Respect," again, and the two songs penned specially to be either finalist's debut singles, whoever won"Before Your Love," and the song that stole all the thunder, "A Moment Like This." Guarini sang both of them, too (could you imagine that still being a thing, having to watch two performances each of the same two songs, neither of which you know?), and then they teamed up for "It Takes Two."

The next night, Sept. 4, 2002, nearly 23 million people watchedKelly Clarkson be named the first-ever winner ofAmerican Idol.

Her emotion-choked performance of "A Moment Like This," which she kicked off with an ecstatic shriek, remains a live TV moment for the ages.

Hundreds of thousands of people have tried out over the years, and billions of voteshave been cast, including 110 million that first season (by phone!).

And after 15 seasons, Kelly Clarksonmistaken for just one of the pack early onremains one of the most famous and enduringly successful contestants in Idol history. She's sold 25 million albums and won three Grammys (including Best Pop Vocal Album in 2006 and 2013), three MTV Video Music Awards, four American MusicAwards, two ACM Awards, a CMA Award and more.

So it's no wonderThe Voice snatched herand fellow Idol alum Jennifer Hudsonup to be a coach next season, meaning she'll soon be commanding her own swiveling chair. A reminder of just how bigAmerican Idol gotso big,it was no wonder that everyone wanted a piece.

Clarkson's 2015 album Piece by Piecemarked her final contribution to the six-album contract she signed with RCA Records as part of herIdol prize, meaning she's only been untethered from herIdol-instigatedobligations for barely two years.

Before Fox announced that the show's 15th season would be its last, Rolling Stone asked Kelly, who had performed multiple times on Idol over the years,if she was interested in returning to where it all began as a judge.

"I actually love the mentoring process," said the singer, who was a few months away from getting pregnant with her second child at the time. "It was nostalgic to be thereit was the same hallway that I was warming up in 13 years ago, when I was 19. It did make me feel a little old. But it was really cool. When I went on that show, I thought maybe I would end up being a backup singer for someone. So I couldn't have wished for more."

Undersea scientist tests Mars diet on himself – New Atlas

To help the crews of future Mars missions remain healthy, associate professor Dominic D'Agostino of the University of South Florida will spend ten days on a simulated space journey in a laboratory on the bottom of the sea, where he'll eat a special diet designed to counter the side effects of interplanetary spaceflight.

These "analog" missions uses the Aquarius underwater habitat, located 62 ft (19 m) down and 3.5 mi (5.6 km) off Key Largo in the Florida Keys Marine Sanctuary in the Atlantic Ocean. Since 2001, 21 teams of international astronauts became aquanauts as they spent up to a fortnight carrying out experiments as well as practicing with new techniques and technologies in the simulated weightlessness of the undersea environment.

D'Agostino, who studies the impact of extreme environments on the human body at USF, will be the only non-NASA or ESA affiliated participant of NEEMO 22 when it deploys on June 18. D'Agostino will dine on a special diet that will include ketone supplement formulations designed to cause his body to go into nutritional ketosis. This is a metabolic state where the body shifts from glucose to using fat as it primary fuel. By keeping his body in nutritional ketosis, his cells will be able to preserve their DNA from damage while he works in the stressful aquatic environment.

To provide a control, the other aquanauts will eat a regular diet as data is collected about their and D'Agostino's gut microbiome, body composition, ability to carry out cognitive tasks, vision, sleep quality, and other physiological parameters.

The hope is that such supplements will help astronauts for counter neurological risks from cosmic radiation, low oxygen, and the stress of living inside the confines of a spacecraft.

Spicing up diet of transition dairy cows may be good for their health – ScienceBlog.com (blog)

It would be difficult to overstate the importance of the U.S. dairy industry. At $27 billion annually, its impact on the American economy and diet is immense, and at its core, the sector is completely dependent on the health and productivity of cows.

Americans drink more than 6 billion gallons of milk per year, and another 10 billion gallons are used to produce cheese, not to mention the milk that goes into products such as ice cream and yogurt. Yet, its safe to say, most consumers take the well-being of dairy cows for granted. But the countrys 65,000 dairy farmers dont they cant afford to.

One of dairy farmers biggest concerns is the vulnerable and important period for the dairy cow that extends three weeks before and three weeks after calving. Her metabolic needs increase dramatically, and how she copes with this high-energy transition period influences how well she performs during the rest of the lactation.

During this transition cow period, diseases can result in milk yield decreases of 5 to 10 pounds per day at peak lactation,a considerable economic loss for the producer. And research has shown that there is a domino effect: when a cow suffers from one transition disease, she is more likely to develop another, such as mastitis, ketosis or postpartum metritis.

Field surveys done by Penn State Extension show that more than 50 percent of cows will experience one or more metabolic or infectious disease following calving.

So, dairy-nutrition researchers such as Penn States Alex Hristov have been experimenting with various dietary supplements to bolster the immune systems of transition cows. A professor of dairy nutrition in the College of Agricultural Sciences, he has concentrated on the effects of spicing up the diets of transition cows feeding them phytonutrients and essential oils that are known to boost and support the immune systems of other species, including humans and gauging the cows health response.

Phytonutrients and essential oils bioactive compounds that act as antimicrobials and antiseptics are not required by dairy animals, but ingesting the compounds could make cows healthier, according to Hristov. Some examples are allicin from garlic, thymol from thyme and oregano, capsaicin from hot peppers, eugenol from cloves, pinene from juniper berries, limonene from dill, cinnamonaldehyde from cinnamon, and curcumin from turmeric.

At first, Hristov and other animal scientists considered phytonutrients and essential oils as a way to improve or alter rumen fermentation with naturally occurring compounds rather than commercial additives or antibiotics. The objective in altering rumen fermentation is to reduce methane gas production and increase propionate and butyrate production, resulting in more efficient fermentation and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

But in recent research, Hristov has been looking beyond the rumen. In a series of papers, including an invited review published this spring in the Journal of Dairy Science, he and postdoctoral scholar Joonpyo Oh focus on the intestinal effects of phytonutrients in dairy cows, especially capsicum oleoresin from chili peppers. Oh, who conducted the research as part of his doctoral thesis, concluded that phytonutrients appear to have positive physiological effects on the immune response in ruminants, and in lactating dairy cows in particular.

The novel thing about this research is that we have shown that these phytonutrients can have downstream effects after the rumen, Hristov said. For the first time, we have shown that these compounds can bypass the rumen, which means they can avoid microbial degradation in the rumen. So they can be absorbed, through specific receptors, in the small intestine, which allows the cow to benefit from their physiological effects, including improvements in immunity, oxidative stress and insulin regulation.

He explained that the regulatory effects of phytonutrients on cytokines, acute phase proteins, blood immune cells, and oxidative stress status, including lipid peroxidation and endogenous antioxidants, seem to be beneficial for immune suppression of inflammation disease in dairy cows.

Although more research is needed to confirm results of Penn State studies, Hristov believes phytonutrient supplements such as capsicum oleoresin in the feed of transition dairy cows could have an impact on the dairy industry. The transition period is the most critical period in the life of a cow, so anything that can decrease metabolic diseases during that time could prove to be significant, he said.

Anything that improves animal health and immune response in these cows is important. And in previous studies we even saw an increase in milk production. That kind of direct impact, if proven, would be very important.

Follow-on studies are unfolding in Hristovs lab in collaboration with a Swiss company to develop a rumen-protected capsicum product to reliably deliver the benefits of phytonutrients to cows immune systems. Researchers are using capsicum oleoresin, Hristov noted, because after investigating other phytonutrient compounds, the peppers had the most pronounced affect on cows health.

But do cows like having their diet spiced up? From the several experiments we conducted, they dont seem to mind it, Hristov said. Cows consumed the spicy diet the same as the control diet. Perhaps, like some of us, they like it.

With Altered Diet And Hard Offseason Work, Ziggy Hood Ready For 2017 – Redskins.com

At 31 years old, Ziggy Hood has gone through some wear and tear over the course of his NFL career. To prepare for what's to come, he altered some of his offseason approach.

Despite being the oldest defensive lineman on the Washington Redskins 90-man roster by more than two years, Ziggy Hood is still the hardest working player of that group.

Hood took an offseason approach few would ever think about taking on and only a handful would actually execute: he would work out at length, sometimes as much as six hours in one day.

It wasnt anybodys idea but mine, Hood said. Like I said, I put in work, and thats what I tend to do, and I stay at it.

Now entering his ninth season in the NFL and second with the Redskins, Hood knows that he has to keep his body in peak form.

The Missouri product appeared on 661 defensive snaps last season, eighth most among returning defensive player and the most among returning defensive linemen.

Hood said he incorporated a fair among of cardio into his workout routine including some swimming, which kept his heart rate up.

I just try to stay active, Hood said. Your knees, your hips, I mean, some of the small stuff [to stay healthy]. I mean, especially when half of the one side of your body tends to be weaker than others so The knees tend to go too.

Hood also altered his diet some, too, trying to limit his carbohydrate intake and cut out eating candy.

Instead of reaching for that candy at the movie theater, Im just going to get the popcorn and walk away from it, Hood said with a smile. Sour Patch straws, or something like that, yeah, I love those. Ive got to cut back.

Hood was signed to a Reserve/Future contract last offseason following a 2015 season in which he was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars following injuries that sidelined him. Then he would sign with the Chicago Bears late in the season, but was once again released after just two games.

Hood was one of the brightest spots for the Redskins during training camp last year and the veteran turned that into a solid rebound season, appearing in all 16 regular season games with 33 tackles, three passes defensed, one sack and one fumble forced.

[What] some parts of the teams dont measure is how much heart youve got, Hood said when asked about his return to form. They can tell you how fast, how much you lift, or tell you how far you can jump, but one thing they cant measure is your heart. And then some guys fall by the wayside when it comes to that and others exceed. So I mean, I knew it was just another hurdle and challenge to me and I got over it.

With the offseason departures of Chris Baker and Ricky Jean Francois, it will be Hood who is the on-field leader of a rebuilt defensive line that now includes free agent additions Terrell McClain and Stacy McGee along with first-round pick Jonathan Allen.

Hes a great leader for that defensive line room, said Redskins head coach Jay Gruden. I think guys follow him and you see the progress of all of the defensive linemen in the strength room and it starts with Ziggy. Hes the guy who works the hardest. Were happy to have him. Hes a great leader for us.
