Guardians Chris Pratt Talks Ego, Diet and Balancing It All – Huffington Post

The day opens with stunning spring weather in Los Angeles. We board the shuttle and half an hour later; we're at The London West Hollywood Hotel, located in the old Bel Age Hotel, From the stars on the reviews, it's posh. However, the stucco building isnt much to look at from the outside.
As we approach the entrance, the luxury begins to whisper.
Julee Morrison
The buzzing driveway seemed to fade as we entered the grand foyer. The high ceilings, lovely florals, and glittering mosaic floor bring the elegance to view.

We step into the elevator lobby, and I love thelife-size black and white print of a man in a bowler hat carrying a tea-set that adorns the sliding doors of the ground-floorelevator. There are two other elevators with more whimsical embellishments adding to the beauty of this hotel.
It's old Hollywood with modern Hollywood glitz.
Off the elevator and we file into our interview room. It's recognizable by the black sharpie spelling out "Bloggers" on an 8.5"x11" piece of paper hanging on the wall
It's a small room, with a window that has a sweeping view of the Los Angeles skyline. The view seems flamboyant against the muted colors of the room.
One wall is parquet veneer that is a pattern of rectangles forming squares. The colors wash out theroom. An ivory paint with a silver wallpaper printed with a less-silver damask design. In front of the room, a small table covered with ivory linens is the centerpiece. Chairs await our guest.
He enters the room as you'd expect a Star-Lord to enter.

The room is a rumble of applause. Chris Pratt, known for his roles in Jurassic Park and Guardians of the Galaxy, has arrived. Star-Lord or not, his presence is known. Standing at 6'2", Pratt welcomes the recognition.

Pratt talks about seeing the movie Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 for the first time.
His nose scrunches as he speaks. He punctuates with a smile. Then he moves on to discussing his thoughts on his role as Star-Lord and how it transitions from the original to Guardians to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
In Guardians of the Galaxy, we hear Peter Quill talk often of finding his biological father. If you've followed the buzz around the #GotGVol2Event, you know that Kurt Russell was cast as Peter Quill's dad, Ego. It might be the most perfect casting in Hollywood. Ever.
Disney-Marvel
Chris Pratt talks about working with Kurt Russell on and off the screen.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 follows the original with quirky characters and hilarious humor. Star-Lord has some of the funniest lines of any superhero. Like Star-Lord, Chris Pratt is hilarious. He shares scenes that made it into the movie that was not written but ad-libbed.
He did tell us one particular joke, but I don't want to spoil it!

If you follow Chris Pratt on Instagram, you know that it doesn't get much more authentic. He openly shares who he is when not behind a character in a movie. He's an ordinary guy, living life one day at a time as the rest of us. One of the bloggers asks a question from her children who follow Pratt's Instagram.
He's invited to discuss Peter Quill's favorite snack and then Chris Pratt's favorite.
Disney-Marvel
I remember Chris Pratt from Community. He was a little more chubby. He now has an incredibly fit body. Obviously. It's something he's made fun of in the past.

How exactly does Pratt keep the weight off and his physique up?
And here's where we all fall in love with Chris Pratt again.
He understands the weight struggle and gives diet advice:

Chris Pratt is very philanthropic. It's one of the things you may notice about him when he's not acting. He was born in Virgina, Minnesota and as a child, his family moved to Northwestern Washington State. He gives back to his community; he visited a Children's Hospital. He has worked with March of Dimes, Malaria No More.He delivers it with a boy-next-door kind of style. He's referred to as the "Russell Wilson of Hollywood."
Chris Pratt received a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame last Friday. His wife Anna Faris did live tweets, showing that Chris is a family man. In an interview after interview, he talks about his marriage and being a dad to his son, Jack. How does he balance it all?

"Thanks for asking me that question. Thats a good question. I know Anna gets asked that question all the time, and shes like, How come no one ever asks you that question? I think its not easy.
Its real. A lot of communication. We have help. We have just to plan everything. Everything has to be planned. You manage it by just making sure everyone is doing what they need to be doing. You check in with everyone. I have a staff of people who work for me, and its their jobs to make sure that Im where I need to be.
Louise Bishop MomStart.com
If I did all the administration in my life, Id never have time to do anything. I told my publicist, 'Im like a parcel. I dont even travel; I just get shipped everywhere.'
I just focus on what I can do. I think you dont have to be present to be a presence, and with technology now, Facetime, little tricks, little things like that. Checking in every day, and nurturing your relationship with your spouse, and not making it just about the kids is important.
We were just in London filming, and I hadnt seen my family in a while. They came to visit me, and stay with me for a few weeks. Anna and I took a weekend trip for ourselves to Paris and left Jack behind. As much as we were enjoying ourselves, we were still saying, "Itd be really fun if Jack were here.
It was good for us to be out there by ourselves, and do that. Just prioritize, work on it, make lists, and probably youre going fail; some of the time. Just do your best."
See Chris Pratt as Star Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in theaters every where May 5th.

How Clean Eating Helped Me Cope with Anxiety – Shape Magazine

My battle with anxiety started in college, with a combination of the pressures of academics, social life, not taking care of my body, and definitely drinking too much.
Because of all this stress, I started having panic attacksin the form of chest pains, heart palpitations, and pain in my chest and arms. I was afraid that these were heart attack symptoms, so I didn't want to ignore them. I'd go to the hospital and spend thousands of dollars on EKGs, just to have doctors tell me there was nothing wrong with my heart. What they didn't tell me was that anxiety was the root of the problem.
And my diet certainly wasn't helping. I was usually skipping breakfast or getting something on the run from my sorority house, like fried hash brownsor bacon, egg, and cheese on bagels on the weekend. Then I'd go to the cafeteria and hit the candy dispensers hard, grabbing huge bags of sour gummies and chocolate-covered pretzels to munch on while studying. For lunch (if you could call it that) I'd dip barbecue chips into almost anything, or have Cool Ranch Doritos from the library vending machine. There was also the typical late-night eating: pizza, subs, margaritas with chips and dip, and yes, Big Macs from the McDonald's drive-through. Even though I was often feeling dehydrated, and eating way too much sugar, I was still happyand having fun.
The fun tapered off a bit when I moved to New York City and started working a stressful corporate job as a paralegal. I was ordering takeout a lot, still drinking, and living an overall unhealthy lifestyle. And although I was starting to think about the idea of health, that manifested in calculating calories in vs. calories out and not really putting anything of nutritional value into my body. I tried to cut carbs and calories any way I could and was also trying to save money, which meant I'd eat cheese quesadillas or flatbreads with low-fat cream cheese as a meal twice a day. What I thought was "healthy" portion control actually made me almost 20 pounds underweightI'd become restrictive without even realizing it.
Due to a combination of my job, my diet, and my surroundings, I became extremely unhappy, and anxiety began to take over my life. Around that time, I stopped going out and stopped wanting to be social. My best friend was worried about me, so she invited me on a trip to escape the city to her mountain house in North Carolina. On our second night there, away from the craziness and distraction of New York City, I had somewhat of a meltdown and finally realized that my diet and coping mechanisms for my anxiety were not working at all for me. I returned to the city and started seeing a nutritionist to gain weight. She opened my eyes to the importance of healthy fats and an array of nutrients from produce, which completely changed my approach to eating. I started to embrace a more whole foodsoriented diet and move away from the downward spiral of calorie counting, and I began cooking my own food. I started venturing out to farmers' markets and health food stores, reading about nutrition, and immersing myself in the health food world.
Very slowly, I noticed that the palpitations started to go away. With the therapeutic nature of working with my hands, and eating these natural, nutritious ingredients, I felt more like myself. I wanted to be social, but in a different waywithout feeling the need to drink. I began to discover the real connection that we have between our bodies and what goes into them.
I decided to veer from my plan since high school of becoming a lawyer and instead forge a new career path that allowed me to immerse myself in my newfound passion for nutrition and cooking. I enrolled in culinary classes at the Natural Gourmet Institute in NYC and about two days later, I got a call from a friend looking for a marketing manager for a health food brand called Health Warrior. I did a phone interview the next day, landed the job, and began on the path that would eventually lead me to start my own brand.
Two days after graduating from the culinary institute in August 2013 as a Certified Holistic Chef, I moved back to my beloved hometown of Nashville and bought the domain name for LL Balanced, where I shared a compilation of my healthiest, most delicious home cookfriendly recipes. The goal was to not label the site as adhering to any specific "diet"readers can find and easily execute anything from vegan, to gluten-free, to Paleo eats, along with nutritious twists on Southern comfort food. My newest and most exciting step in this wellness journey is The Laura Lea Balanced Cookbook (out this May), which will bring my take on food to life and into even more health-forward homes.
Nutrition has changed my life in almost every way. It's the linchpin of my emotional health and the key that allowed me to reconnect with myself and reconnect with other people. Through eating whole, fresh, mostly plant-based food, I've been able to take control of both my physical and mental health. While I'll always be a naturally anxiety-prone person, and it still comes and goes, it was the role of nutrition in my life that allowed me to finally find balance and know my own body. It made me myself again.

Fitness: Building balance with TRX | Golfweek – Golfweek.com

(Editors Note: This story originally appeared in the April, 2017issue of Golfweek.)
ORLANDO, Fla. It makes perfect sense that golfers trying to shoot lower scores and improve their swing will spend hours on the range. Repetitions matter.
On the range, many golfers think about how the club feels in their hands and where it should be throughout the swing. But they dont necessarily think about what their bodies are doing and how all the moving parts should feel throughout a swing.
For strength and conditioning specialist Trevor Anderson, that knowledge is just as important as repetition. He introduces those elements with the TRX Suspension Trainer at the Better Every Day Performance Institute in Orlando.
The biggest improvement we find (for golfers) is body awareness, Anderson said. The average golf swing is between 1.3 to 1.5 seconds. If you dont have a good level of body awareness how you feel when youre shifting your weight, things of that nature its going to be very challenging to understand how to replicate that every time in your golf swing. What TRX does is help to identify muscle imbalances.
The TRX Suspension Trainer is essentially a set of customizable resistance straps that can be anchored to a solid base. They provide a customizable workout. Anderson, a TRX master instructor and golf performance expert, incorporates several workouts to help golfers gain muscle and body awareness.
Performing a TRX row requires even distribution and muscle balance. If an athlete pulls the straps harder with their right side than the left, the straps will slide to the right and provide immediate feedback. The more aware one becomes about weight distribution and body movements, the easier it is to apply that knowledge and create consistent, repeatable body movements throughout a golf swing.
If your hands are on the straps and your feet are on the ground, everything in between has to stay engaged, Anderson said. It demands posture throughout the entire core, from the glutes to the hamstrings to the hips. It demands attention to create the opportunity to stay stable. If youre doing a row, your core is always engaged and youre working the back muscles.
TRX ROW
These are so important in golf because posture is such a big deal, Anderson said. The reason we do these rows is so people have the appropriate amount of awareness with whats happening with their shoulder blades, their upper back, their spine and their entire posture. Its hard to be in a bad position and be really efficient.
Step 1: Shorten the TRX straps all the way. Extend your arms and hold on to the straps with your palms facing each other. Move your feet forward until you feel tension on the straps.
Step 2: Pull your shoulder blades back and down as far as you can, pulling yourself up in the process. As you pull your shoulder blades, rotate your hands so that your palms are pointed toward the floor.
Step 3: Squeeze your quads to straighten your legs and protect from excess pressure on the knees.
Step 4: Squeeze your glutes.
Step 5: Lower your body back to the original position while remaining under control.
Do three sets of 10. If it does not feel challenging enough, move your feet farther away from your upper body in the starting position. If its too challenging, move your feet closer in the starting position.
TRX SQUAT JUMPS
This is a great exercise where you can take 15 or 20 seconds and jump as high as you can, Anderson said. Once you get better with 15 and 20 seconds you can do it for 25, then 30. Typically, this is a power move that falls in line with the same energy systems required to swing a golf club. Its a great athletic move thats full of body power.
This is an athletic move that utilizes an athletic response, changing direction and jumping back up. Just like in the backswing, you go into the backswing to generate a loading position and create an elastic response throughout the sequence to come down and be powerful. Create an elastic response with the legs, hamstrings and glutes, then fire up to the tall position again.
Step 1: Start in a standing plank position with elbows underneath the shoulders.
Step 2:Squat down, which will move your hands forward.
Step 3: Jump up while pulling on the straps and try to get your body as tall and straight as you can.
Step 4:Land under control and jump right back up. Dont pause at the bottom.
Start out by doing three 15-second sets, jumping throughout. Adjust the time as necessary.

Fitbit owner claims fitness tracker exploded on her wrist – New York Post

A Wisconsin woman claims that her Fitbit tracker exploded and sether arm on fire.
Dina Mitchell had owned the Fitbit Flex 2 fitness tracker for just two weeks when the device caught fire while she was reading a book, according to ABC News.
I was literally just sitting and reading when my Fitbit exploded, Mitchell told ABC News. It was either defective or really mad I was sitting still so long I dont know. Either way, It burned the heck out of my arm.
She was treated the next day for second-degree burns, news station KTRK reported
Mitchell said she had no reason to believe there was anything wrong with the device before the alleged malfunction last week.
Fitbit includes a warning that devices haveelectrical equipment that could cause injury if not handled properly, but the company announced Tuesday that they plan to investigate the incident.
We are extremely concerned about Ms. Mitchells report regarding her Flex 2 and take it very seriously, as the health and safety of our customers is our top priority, the company said in a statement.
Fitbit said that this was the only report theyd received of a Flex 2 device explosion.
We are not aware of any other complaints of this nature and see no reason for people to stop wearing their Flex 2, the company said.

Revolution Fitness in Yucaipa works at being one-stop shop for … – Redlands Daily Facts

YUCAIPA >> For three years, Revolution Fitness Gym has worked to become the one-stop fitness shop it clients want.
We are a boutique-style gym with an amazing array of classes, said owner Jenifer Conroy. From spin to hot yoga, boot camp, barre, outdoor kickboxing and more, Conroy says she is offering everything you can think of within our little boutique facility.
The gym has about 350 members, but it never feels congested since its open 24 hours, Conroy said. The gym also offers childcare.
Conroy, who lives in Rancho Palos Verdes, owns nearby Queen Bean Cafe and co-owns the local Dairy Queen with son, Joshua Conroy. She said she enjoys all her business ventures but has a special passion for Revolution because its fitness-related.
Conroy employs 18 people at Revolution, including manager Jaime Casey, a third-generation resident of Yucaipa. The pair met because Casey and her parents were regulars at the Queen Bean Cafe.
I started learning about her extensive fitness background, said Conroy. After I knew I was going to start the gym, I asked if she wanted to manage and it was the perfect time for her in her career.
When she was offered the job, Casey said, she couldnt believe it was real.
I love it and it sounds cliche but its a dream come true, she said. I love the challenge that comes with working in management. And its been an amazing experience working with someone whose vision is the same as mine regarding fitness.
The best part of her job is changing peoples lives, Casey said.
Thats where we come together with our heart and vision and our purpose, she added. We absolutely care about our members and we are basically a family. We are more than a fitness facility where members are going in there and leaving. We are invested in your mind, body and soul. We have all different types of workouts because we know everyone has different needs. We are always changing and growing.
Casey and Conroy want to make people feel loved and important at Revolution. The gym can meet just about any need, so the question for clients is What do you want?
If there are people who are intimidated who are not general gym-goers and they are looking for a place to connect and find something unique and to keep them engaged, Casey said, they should come see us.

Rees-Blakeman: Kudos for a ‘one of a kind’ Parkinson’s program – Roanoke Times

Rees-Blakeman is a professional educator with over 20 years of teaching experience and has developed programs and curriculum for people of all ages.
Have you lived in Roanoke long enough to recall a time before any microbreweries? How about before the cupcake shops or the Taubman art museum? Well, if you do recall a time when these things didnt exist, you probably have lived in Roanoke at least 10 to 15 years.
Another new addition to our star city is the Carilion medical expansions that have gone on for the last 10 or so years. We now have a college of nursing and several new medical facilities that house cutting edge technology and research programs that significantly improve the quality of our lives here in the Roanoke Valley.
One new Carilion program that you may not be aware of, and that Id like to call your attention to, are the Parkinsons Disease exercise programs that are housed at Carilion Wellness Roanoke. This is the building that used to be called the Roanoke Athletic Club, also known as the RAC, on Starkey Road just south of Electric Road.
The Parkinsons exercise program is in its infancy, having been in existence just less than a year. Nothing of its kind has ever been available before in Roanoke. Many components are planned for the program, and the size of it will depend upon the level of participation from our community. The current program consists of several exercise classes taught by clinical and personal trainers, whom customize plans according to the needs of individual patients. Most of the trainers have four-year degrees in Exercise Science, as well as additional education in the area of Parkinsons.
Exercise is crucial to Parkinsons patients in maintaining health and possibly slowing or even halting the progression of the disease. Research studies back this up. The results of a study published in 2016 showed that intensive bouts of cycling had a positive impact upon Parkinsons patients motor and non-motor symptoms.
Another study showed that cycle training improved Parkinsons patients quality of walking as much as treadmill training does.
Another study found that exercise has the potential for reducing the risk of falls , improving mobility and also improving the quality of life of people with PD.
.There are many more similar studies, all of which have the same general message: Get moving and get exercising!
The Parkinsons classes are varied. Some classes focus on the weight and cardio machines. There is a TRX class that works on building up core strength, which is a key component for Parkinsons patients. There is a boxing class which is fun, challenging, and invigorating. A bicycle spinning class is starting in March. In addition to the exercise, the patients also have started a support group that meets on a weekly basis.
This Parkinsons program is fast becoming a community of its own. It is a great place to be. The staff is friendly and courteous. The trainers go the extra mile in building positive rapport with each individual patient, making you feel welcome and comfortable. There is no stigma or ridicule.
At this time, the classes are mostly offered during weekday mornings, but the management would like to expand the schedule of classes throughout the day to accommodate the schedules of patients that work and have other commitments.
The plans to expand the Parkinsons program are reliant upon the engagement of patients. These plans will go forth if the Parkinsons patients show up at the door and get involved. Like any other similar program, this one is affected by the numbers that participate.
Sooooo ... all of you Parkinsons people out there, get on over to Carilion Wellness Roanoke and try it out. After you see the improvements you make, you will be happy you made the effort. And you will want to see the program succeed and grow, just like I do.
The staff at Carilion Wellness Roanoke have been working on building the program, and so, now your part is here. The time for you to take the initiative has arrived. You wont be disappointed. This program is a stupendous addition to our community. It is well deserving of our support.
If you are interested in more information, contact Patrick Dunham, Clinical Training Manager, at Carilion Wellness Roanoke. at (540) 989-5758. There is no information currently on the Carilion Wellness Roanoke website about the Parkinsons classes. The website information about the program is also in its developmental phase. So pick up the phone and call today.

New fitness leader at Park & Rec | News, Sports, Jobs – The Journal – NUjournal

Staff photo by Clay Schuldt Earlier this month the Park and Recreation Department hired Sandy Popowski as the new aquatics and fitness coordinator.
NEW ULM Earlier this month the Park and Recreation Department hired Sandy Popowski as the new aquatics and fitness coordinator.
I oversee the aquatics program and the fitness program. The aquatics program includes the lifeguarding, the water safety instruction, the pool, Popowski said. On the fitness side, I manage the fitness classes, the group exercise instruction, the scheduling for the exercise classes, and I do teach some of the classes.
Popowski is originally from Ivanhoe in the Marshall area and moved to Mankato in 2006 to attend Minnesota State University (MSU). She has a bachelors degree in exercise science and in community health. Popowski is halfway through completion of a masters degree in health education. She did her internship on a work site wellness team.
I felt I was lacking in some of the fitness experience, Popowski said. I started doing personal training and group exercise and decided running a program like this was definitely my passion.
New Ulm was one of the few communities with an opening for an all-round fitness coordinator, and she jumped at the opportunity to work in the area. Popowski sees her position as a growing need in many communities.
Health and wellness are becoming more popular, she said. Wellness takes a look outside of just exercise and just fitness. Its also stress management.
Popowski described New Ulm as an activity-oriented community. The Park and Rec Department is relatively large for a city this size and offers a lot room for growth. The size of the Park Department creates a set of challenges.
The greatest challenge of taking over this position is making everyone happy in terms of scheduling. The schedule needs to work for instructors and participants. There are 16 group exercise instructors and 15 lifeguards.
I am overseeing a hefty group of people, Popowski said.
In less than a month on staff, Popowski has learned the names of her co-workers, but admits learning all 42 park names and their locations is hard.
As the new coordinator, Popowski is maintaining the current program offerings while working to develop new programs. Several group exercise classes are scheduled at the Vogel Fieldhouse each day, including step aerobics, cardio workout and spin classes. Since taking over the position, Popowski has led a kickboxing class as the primary instructor.
Popowski said different components of kickboxing have been taught in New Ulm before, but never as its own class. There has been a demand for kickboxing instruction for the fitness benefits, as the sport forces participants to use and exercise different muscle groups.
With the popularity of yoga, Park and Rec is looking to implement an intro to yoga class. Popowski said the intro class is for those nervous about taking a full yoga class. Popowski plans to expand the personal training program in the fall.
This summer outdoor yoga classes will be offered in parks on Saturdays. These classes were held last summer, but this year the plan is to bring the classes to a different park each week.
Popowski said the goal is to offer more outdoor fitness opportunities. Weather permitting, spin classes have been moved outside on the pool deck.
By the end of the year, Popowski hopes to revamp the departments personal trainer program. The new system would focus on hour-long sessions with a trainer.
I am looking at offering new members one free personal training session, Popowski said. That will be like a consultation. Intro to the gym, intro to the fitness center.
The new system would teach people new to fitness the ins and outs of exercising. This way participants would know to work out effectively and safely.
Asked what is the best part of her new job, Popowski said, being able to bring some of my experience to heath and wellness here, and being able to learn.
The position allows her to promote health and wellness in the New Ulm community and participate in the daily exercises at the same time.
My door is always open to participants, community members or employees, she said. I am more than happy to introduce myself and take feedback from anyone.
Popowski lives in Mankato with her fianc Will Bromley. The couple are planning to marry in less than a month. After May 20, people looking for the Aquatics and Fitness Coordinator will need to ask for Sandy Bromley.
