Anytime Fitness open 24/7 on Henderson Street – Galesburg Register-Mail

Robert Connelly The Register-Mail RConnelly_

GALESBURG A new gym has been open for about a month in Galesburg and continues to grow.

Chip Staeball owns Anytime Fitness, 1964 N. Henderson St., which formerly housed Happy Joes about two years ago.

We chose that location. We liked the exposure. The landlord was real good about renovating the space from the old Happy Joes and creating a new space for Anytime Fitness, he said.

It opened on March 15 and is staffed for about eight to ten hours a day, but customers can access the gym 24/7 with a key fob.

People love the facility, the way that it is so spacious. Great free-weight area with amenities that a weight lifter would expect ... cardio that I know would be very new to the area, Staeball said.

He further said he had been eyeing the Galesburg market for about 18 months and also operates gyms in Muscatine, Burlington and Rock Falls. That means while he was looking to open here the Knox County YMCA announced, and opened, its downtown location with 24/7 access.

I knew that going in and it wasnt a major concern because we are different than a YMCA, Staeball said.

The types of services that weoffer are much different than a YMCA. Our personal training program is exclusive to Anytime Fitness. Were more of a coaching club ... were a little more welcoming towards somebody thats serious about working out.

Adam Sampson, chief executive officer of the Knox County YMCA, said another gym is welcomed in Galesburg.

Obviously were a little different than for-profit organizations where we use the profits for the community, he said.

Weve seen little to no impact to the usage and to the numbers of members since Anytime opened.

Staebell said Anytime Fitness is the first gym franchise in the country to offer a smartphone app.

You can choose that workout for the day and it will take you through all the exercises and show you examples of how the correct form and how much weight and how (many) reps, he said.

New clients meet with a professional trainer and have a plan set up, and then it is revisited about 30 days later to see where they have made progress with weight loss or increased muscle depending on the plan.

We will continue to grow, Staebell said.

Fundraiser for Colorado Springs City Auditorium combines fitness and a cause – Colorado Springs Gazette

As energetic music blared, it was difficult not to find someone with a smile on their face - even while they were exercising on an otherwise quiet afternoon in downtown Colorado Springs.

On Sunday, more than 100 people showed up in tie-dye T-shirts, sneakers and headbands to participate in a free "fitness party" hosted by TrendZ Fitness, raising money toward covering maintenance costs for the aging Colorado Springs City Auditorium.

With a suggested donation of $5, participants danced through two hours of Zumba sessions by more than a dozen instructors in the gym-like area of the downtown arena and theater at 221 E. Kiowa St. Nearby, vendors set up tables selling fitness-related products.

Last year, TrendZ Fitness held the fundraiser for the first time and raised about $700 with about 100 participants, said event organizer Don Quashie. He believes this year's event - with a "flower power" theme - was expected to raise more money because of a higher turnout.

"It's a two-hour event, that's a lot of calories burned," he said.

Quashie and TrendZ Fitness - in which he works as a Zumba instructor - decided to start a fundraiser after reading a Gazette article detailing a need to update and repair the 60,000-square-foot building that was built in 1923.

He also noted that it was a way for TrendZ Fitness to give back since the physical fitness company has held several fundraisers at the auditorium in the past last five years, including for breast cancer awareness and the Empty Stocking Fund by The Gazette and El Pomar Foundation.

"We knew we needed to do something to help because this is where we hold a lot of our events," Quashie said. "If we can do that, everyone can benefit from it."

Participants had little time for breaks.

They moved their feet and arms to energetic music while instructors led short Zumba sessions on an elevated stage.

"I love all the positivity and all the instructors who came in unity," said Rosaura Rojas-Dawson, who teaches Zumba at the Fountain YMCA.

To many, the dancing didn't seem like exercise.

"By the time you're done, you're sweating and it doesn't feel like you're doing a workout," said Amy Allen, a Zumba instructor at the Briargate YMCA.

United boss Mourinho unsure of Pogba fitness for Manchester derby – Goal.com

The France international midfielder is a doubt for Thursday's clash at the Etihad Stadium after being forced off in a 2-0 victory over Burnley

Jose Mourinho confirmed Paul Pogba is a doubt for the Manchester derby in the Premier League on Thursday after suffering an injury in the 2-0 win at Burnley.

Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney goals saw United move to within a point of fourth-placed Manchester City ahead of the potentially critical derby, but Pogba limped off in the closing minutes.

Mou: EL still Man Utd's priority

United are already without Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo after the pair suffered "significant" knee ligament damage in the Europa League quarter-final against Anderlecht and Mourinho is unsure whether Pogba will recover in time to face City.

"I don't know," Mourinho said when asked about the world-record signing's fitness. "Dead he is for sure, if he's injured or if it's just the super accumulation of fatigue in the muscles, I don't know.

"But as I was saying, if he cannot play Thursday he cannot play Thursday, we play another one and we don't cry, like we didn't today."

United warmed up at Turf Moor wearing training tops bearing the names of Ibrahimovic and Rojo and Mourinho paid tribute to the duo, who are both set to undergo surgery.

Ibrahimovic, Rojo facing surgery

"We cry because we have two important injuries to two amazing guys," Mourinho said.

"But we don't cry because we lose qualities on the pitch, we just cry because they are important injuries, with two important surgeries and two important periods of recovery. And we feel for our friends."

Milwaukee woman claims fitness tracker explodes, suffers second-degree burns – WSAW

MILWAUKEE (WTMJ)-- Milwaukee resident, Dina Mitchell, suffered second-degree burns Tuesday after she said her fitness tracker exploded while she was wearing it when reading a book.

According to Mitchell, she received the device as a birthday gift. She said it malfunctioned after wearing it for two weeks.

"The Fitbit itself is totally melted," Mitchell said.

"The bracelet melted, and I got pieces of plastic burned into my arm," she continued.

According to Mitchell, the pieces of plastic she referenced had to be picked out of her wound by a doctor. Mitchell said there was no indication anything was wrong with the device prior to the explosion, and Aurora Health Care's urgent care facility in Waukesha confirms Mitchell visited the center Wednesday, the day after she said she sustained the injury.

Police: WI Woman Allowed Dogs To Eat Puppies "This a product so many people use," Mitchell said.

"My nephew, their whole class gets these from their teachers, and they wear them," she continued.

The device, however, does come with a warning. The Fitbit website cautions consumers stating:

"The device contains electrical equipment that could cause injury if not handled properly." Mitchell said she was very careful when wearing the device, but that did not prevent something from going wrong.

"If they are exploding or if there's some type of malfunction with them... I mean, I'm going to have a scar from this probably, can you imagine what it would do to a child?" Mitchell questioned.

Sorry, Kim Kardashian, But Losing Weight From the Flu Is Nothing to … – SELF

Kim Kardashian recently came under fire for a tweet she shared about the flu being great for weight loss. "The flu can be an amazing diet," she wrote in a post she later took down. "So happy it came in time for the Met lol #6lbsdown." She later shared two photos of her in a killer outfit with the caption, "Flu got me like."

Though Kardashian's comments were meant in jestshe did say "lol," after allpeople didn't take too kindly to them. For starters, the flu is no joking matterthousands of people die from it each year, per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Not to mention, joking about rapid and unhealthy weight loss being "amazing" isn't funny. In fact, it's potentially triggering for Kardashian's followers who have struggled with disordered eating .

The flu may not seem like a big deal. You get a flu shot , you see a doctor if you get sick, and everything is fineright? While that's the case for many people, the truth is, somewhere between 12,000 and 56,000 die from the flu annually ( CDC estimates vary from year to year).

"Healthy kids and healtyh adults die of influenza ," David Beuther , M.D., a pulmonologist at National Jewish Health, tells SELF. "And younger people or healthy people tend not to recognize their own vulnerability. Hundreds and hundreds of thousands are hospitalized from it each year." (Note: A lot of people use the word flu when they're talking about stomach bugs and other viruses. While we're not sure what kind of flu Kardashian had, we're talking about influenza.)

And while you can expect to lose a little weight during an illness, losing too much isn't a good sign, Dr. Beuther says. "Whether you're talking about the influenza or a gastrointestinal virus, you're usually losing a lot of fluid and not eating as much," he says. "Most of that weight loss is dehydration." If you're able to compensate for all the fluids you're losing by drinking enough, you shouldn't lose more than a few pounds, Dr. Beuther says.

Losing more than that is a sign that your illness has gotten severeand extreme dehydration can lower your blood pressure or complicate existing medical problems, he says. So you should either drink more fluids or head to the hospital for an IV. "I would not encourage anyone to see how much weight they can lose during an illness," Dr. Beuther says. "If anything, they should be trying to put on weight."

"It's important to think about comments that you're making when you have that kind of a platform and that amount of followers," Claire Mysko, CEO of the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA), tells SELF in response to Kardashian's joke. Mysko explains that eating disorders and disordered eating are at "epidemic numbers" in our country, so it's likely that a portion of Kardashian's followers are currently struggling with (or are at risk of struggling with) these behaviors.

"It also generally emphasizes the obsession around weight losswhen you're talking about losing weight from being sick," Mysko says. "It really, really emphasizes how skewed our thoughts and mindset around weight are in this cultureand that can be particularly dangerous for people who are struggling with eating disorders and disordered eating."

If you find yourself feeling triggered after reading a comment like this or seeing anything on social media, Mysko encourages you to reach out for help. "If you see a comment like that from a celeb (or anywhere) and you find yourself making a lot of comparisons or getting into obsessive thoughts about food, weight, exercise, or body imagereach out," Mysko says. "It can be tough to distinguish when it's a problem, and I think comments like that from celebs really reinforce that by kind of making light of the fact that there's this general obsession in our culture around weight."

If you or someone you know is struggling with an eating disorder or disordered eating behaviors, you can visit the NEDA website for more resources. You can call the NEDA Helpline at (800) 931-2237 or chat with a representative by clicking here . Volunteers will be there to offer further resources or provide general support.

Heroin addict returned to drugs after taking amphetamines to lose … – Derbyshire Times

11:58 Sunday 23 April 2017

A heroin addict who slipped back into using drugs after he started taking amphetamines to lose weight has twice been caught with a stash of illicit substances.

Chesterfield magistrates court heard on Tuesday, April 18, how Andrew Harding, 39, of Franklin Avenue, Whitwell, was caught with heroin and two lots of amphetamine after police raided a home at Creswell.

Prosecuting solicitor Emma Shooter told the court Harding was also caught by police just over a month later near North Road, Clowne, with more heroin and amphetamine.

Ms Shooter said: A drugs warrant was executed on October 13 at an address where Harding was present as a friend of the home owner.

The defendant revealed he had a green bag and a tin, according to Ms Shooter, which contained heroin and amphetamine and care was needed because there was a large quantity of syringes.

Ms Shooter added that two police officers later saw the defendant meeting with another person on November 30 and as police approached they were both seen getting into a vehicle.

Police carried out searches, according to Ms Shooter, but Harding grabbed a hand of one of the officers and took back an item they had taken from him and he put it in his mouth.

Ms Shooter said both police officers struggled with Harding to secure the exhibit and the defendant resisted being handcuffed.

The court also heard how a search of the vehicle uncovered amphetamine under a car seat and officers found four packets of powder.

Ms Shooter added that a pencil case with unused syringes was also found.

Harding pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing diamorphine and three counts of possessing amphetamine.

He also admitted wilfully obstructing a police constable in the execution of his duty.

Defence solicitor David Gittins said the drugs had a total street value of 200 and were for Hardings personal use and he was not involved in any supplying.

Mr Gittins added that four years ago Harding weighed 30 stone and was told by his doctor that if he did not lose weight he could die and a friend advised him to take amphetamines to lose weight.

However, Mr Gittins explained that Harding subsequently slipped back into a long-standing heroin addiction.

Magistrates fined Harding 120 and ordered him to pay 85 costs and a 30 victim surcharge.

This is the REAL reason why you gain weight faster than you lose it – Daily Star

SCIENCE reveals why we find it so hard to lose weight but so easy to put it on.

GETTY

You can go the gym religiously, eat a perfectly balanced diet and see little to no weight loss.

But one weekend of chilling out, drinking wine and eating cheese? Hello extra weight.

So why does this happen? Nutrition scientist Dr Tim Crowe revealed to news.com.au the real reasons why its so much easier to put on weight.

"The influence of hunger on weight regain is three-times stronger than a slowing of metabolism. Add the two together it appears almost inevitable that the lost weight will creep back on again for most people," Tim explained.

This means that because we are cutting down our food intake when we diet, we find were hungrier and thus more likely to eat more when we cut loose a little.

A recent study tested a new drug for treating diabetes on two separate groups.

High-protein, low-carbohydrate diets are all the rage right now and for good reason. Protein is an important component of every cell in the body. Hair and nails are mostly made of protein and your body uses protein to build and repair tissues.

1 / 11

The results showed people on the drug, which works by making the kidneys produce more glucose which can help with weight loss, lost only a little bit more than the group who didnt take the drug.

This is because people who were taking the drug were hungrier and on average ate an extra 100 calories a day per kilogram of weight they lost.

Tim said this also applies to restrictive thinking and disallowing ourselves to have certain foods.

Regaining weight has little to do with poor self-control. Our bodies are primed to fight against weight loss. You can ignore hunger cues for a time, but they will persist for much longer than your willpower.

This is why its so important when you are trying to lose weight, not to starve yourself or put yourself on a too-restrictive diet.

By doing this you will crave food more and end up eating larger quantities.
