Diet Doc’s Comprehensive Weight Loss Program Surpasses Military … – Marketwired (press release)

MONTGOMERY, AL--(Marketwired - April 20, 2017) - The Military Diet claims rapid weight loss results for individuals who have the military-style discipline to adhere to its strict guidelines. The official website says that people can lose up to 10 pounds each week without the help of exercise or supplements. It consists of very low-calorie foods that work together in order to activate weight loss. The Military Diet is an attractive option, given that one only needs to adhere to its low-calorie meal plans for 3 out of 7 days; leaving dieters the option of eating whatever else they want during the other four days.
The Military Diet appeals most to those who want to lose a few quick pounds prior to a vacation or an event. However, the meals themselves aren't sustainable for long-term weight loss, nor do they provide any health benefits. Its heavy protein, minimal fruit and vegetable servings and freestyle approach to the rest of the week won't go far towards preventing common diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and high-cholesterol, which are becoming growing health crises. Given that the diet is so low in calories, it is essentially a form of fasting that may come with some residual side effects such as low-energy, fatigue, persistent hunger pangs and increased irritability.
If one can discipline themselves enough to follow the Military Diet, why not choose a better diet program that can improve overall health and promote long-term weight maintenance? Diet Doc Medical Weight Loss has helped thousands of patients through comprehensive meal planning and personalized assessments to support optimal health. 7 Reasons Why You Don’t Need to Exercise to Lose Weight – Influencive

Do you think you need to exercise every day to be healthy?
Do you value quick weight loss over learning, adopting, training, and mastering an entire new life-skill (how to be healthy)?
Without fail, all of my clients lose weight without even trying to lose weight, and without any formal exercise besides walking and some light cardio or aerobics a few times per week.
Its not impossible. Its very simple, actually.
Im here to discuss your relationship with food and the process toward mastery, as opposed to chasing desired outcomes (i.elosing weight, looking good, feeling good, etc.)all of which will happen if we construct a lifestyle and mindset that support success.
If youve been reading my stuff for a while, then you already know my stance: Dieting is fundamentally at odds with learning and is the explicit reason why you havent been successful achieving or maintaining health and happiness.
Regarding diet and exercise and everything else the media pushes at you:
Your goal should not be to lose as much weight as quickly as possible; your goal should be to master your diet. Exhausting yourself to death at the gym confuses your bodily needs and, paradoxically, will make you fat.
1.) Dont confuse your goals
Your goal is NOT to lose as much weight as possible, as quickly as possible. The goal is to master your diet and learn the process by which you learn this vital new life skill. That means, ultimately, mastering yourself. Learning your triggers, training new habits, investing your time and deep focus on taking back control and healing your relationship with food. You will lose weight as a result of your committing to the process. After you master your diet, you will be in an informed and empowered place to strategically add more physical exertion to your load if its even necessary at all.
2.) 80% of your body composition will be determined by your diet
Yes, exercise is important to health and to speed up fat-burning and muscle-building, but the vast majority of your results will come from how you eat. If given the ultimatum, you should 100/100 times focus on mastering your diet BEFORE adding a bunch of exercise to your plate.
I made a free ebook for you to get started on your diet.
3.) Exercise is an additive behavior
For the sake of efficiency, its easier to rein in your diet and make incremental changes than to spend surplus time at the gym to make up for bad eating.
4.) Burnout: AVOID IT
Far too often, novices will start their journey towards health by throwing themselves all in and adding 3-5 days of exercise per week right out of the gate, while also attempting to learn how to actually implement this new diet thing theyre trying out for the first time.
If you have significant weight to lose, how likely is it that you will burn yourself out? Very likely. If you havent exercised in a while, how likely is it that you will burn yourself out? Very likely.
Dont do that!
5.) Incremental, iterative progress
Its far less sexy but infinitely more effective to start your evolution with low barriers to entry that you can hit consistently, dominate, and then improve upon.
For example: Walking.
Go for a 20-30min walk five days per week for 3 weeks before you even consider formal exercise. If you can do that, then youre ready to add one day of resistance training or intensive cardio. Maintain that for three weeks and then add a 2nd day of intensive exercise.
Youll arrive at the same destination you ultimately desire with the aggressive approach, but the difference is that you ultimately LEARN how to do it. You learn how to embody this new lifestyle. Most importantly, you learn to focus on your diet first, repair your relationship with food, and understand your bodys needs first, before throwing yourself into the ringer.
Powerful.
6.) You dont have to earn it
You dont have to earn your health. Do you have to concentrate and focus and spend time with it? Yes, of course. But you can work WITH, instead of against your body. You dont have to deplete yourself of all energy to lose weight, you dont have to exercise for hours on end trying to burn off fat. Killing yourself for hours in the gym or doing cardio is an utter waste of time. Let me repeat: its an utter waste of time.
Unless you are an athlete then you dont need to be training for multiples of hours per week. Unless you want sub 10% body fat as a man and 20% as a woman, you dont need to spend more than an hour or two per week, total. And it doesnt have to be that hard.
7.) Exercise to feel good, not burn fat
Take the long-game, invest in mastering your diet with the intent of making yourself feel goodnot to burn fat. Burning fat is a marketing term that doesnt mean anything!
I have no problem with exercise. In fact I encourage it.
That said, killing yourself for the sake of expediency will backfire. Theres a very clear point of diminishing returns, and theres a threshold of effectiveness, which, if crossed, will undo our work aimed at mastery and learning.
Burning yourself out will rev up your metabolism which will make you want to eat more. Which is at direct odds with what were trying to accomplish here: mastering your diet and building a new lifestyle. Were trying to gain control in a slow progression, so lets not confuse objectives. Opinions expressed here by Contributors are their own.

Diet Doc Examines Troubling Trend of Illness-Based ‘Flu Diet,’ ‘Cancer-Diet’ and Others – Marketwired (press release)

LAS VEGAS, NV--(Marketwired - April 21, 2017) - Given how difficult the average weight loss journey can be, it's no wonder that many people go to extreme measures to lose weight fast. Normally such trends manifest themselves in fad dieting, very low-calorie consumption, meal replacements, juicing, fasting, etc. All these 'diets' have their own set of rules and you'd assume that if they actually worked, the industry wouldn't be producing so many versions of them over time. In fact, most of them trigger temporary, unsustainable weight loss, along with a multitude of additional side-effects such as hunger, binge eating, mood swings, heart palpitations, low-energy, nutritional deficiencies and a host of others.
However, as damaging as fad dieting can be, there's been a disturbing recent trend of celebrities and/or journalists who are promoting illness as a way to lose weight quickly. Just last week, a popular magazine faced criticism when it seemed to promote cancer as a diet plan due to the weight loss experienced while on chemotherapy. This week, a major celebrity tweeted that her six-pound weight loss under the "flu diet" was amazing. Joke or not, very few pop culture experts understand what is involved in making healthy dieting and lifestyle choices.
Diet Doc strongly recommends that any new dieting regimen be supervised by a licensed doctor or certified nutritionist who can take into account all dietary needs and specifications. This is particularly critical for those who suffer from obesity, heart disease, diabetes or any other medical condition as not to create unnecessary complications. Diet Doc is troubled by the fact that an increasing number of consumers are getting their weight loss advice from celebrities and trendy magazines rather than consulting with experienced weight loss professionals. While consumers are certainly intelligent enough not to take much of the advice seriously, it still points to an overwhelming cultural desire to discover quick ways to lose weight, rather than make investments in one's health. Diet Doc's offers customized weight loss strategies based on your unique needs rather than an unsafe, ineffective cookie-cutter template.

Disastrous Dieting – Minaret

By BROOKE NAKAERTS
Dieting its been an epidemic since before time. Looking slimmer, feeling better and being better; its all the rage. Being fit is important for many people when they think of going home for summer break and seeing their family and old friends, but taking dieting to the extreme can be fatal to your health, says Healthline.
Healthy dieting is important because it is a matter of either hurting or helping your body. Accepting the fact that there is no safe way to lose 20 pounds in a week is the first stepdieting takes time.
Eating healthy and working out is the basic way to diet, however, some people who procrastinate may wish to take an alternative route. There are two popular diets that have become very well known to those who wish to lose weight fast: the Master Cleanse and the Military Dietboth promise to help you lose a noticeable amount of weight in less than a week.
The Master Cleanse diet has been ranked by The LIVESTRONG Foundation as one of the top five most dangerous diets of today. This diet is also known as the Lemon cleanse and the Maple Syrup diet. The Master Cleanse is a 10-day program that was designed by Stanley Burroughs in 1941. The idea of the diet is to detoxify your body and lose a substantial amount of weight quickly.
The Master Cleanse instructions tell dieters to squeeze one lemon into a glass of water, add half a cup of maple syrup and some cayenne pepper and stir. Instructions say to drink a minimum of six to 12 glasses per day for 10 days and not to eat or drink anything else. At the end of each day you are also required to take a laxative.
When I looked up a fast easy way to lose weight, I came across the Master Cleanse and it seemed like something that could work for me, said sophomore pre-dentistry major Carly Ramirez. I needed to lose the weight for summer break before I went home, but this cleanse only worked long enough to help me lose five pounds and make me extremely tired and run-down with very little energy to get through the day.
Many young adults are looking for fast and easy ways to lose weight and to keep it off long-term, but the reality is there is no proven or healthy way to do that.
There is really no healthy way to lose weight fast and keep it off, said Melissa Morris, UT Health Science professor. Most rapid weight loss is due to water, which could lead to dehydration potentially.
Another diet that has become quite popular in the diet community is the Military Diet. Online, you can find this diet set with strict guidelines of minimal calorie intake for each day and each meal is planned out ahead of time for you.
This diet claims it will help you lose 10 pounds in three days. The diet calls for an intake of less than 1,500 calories a day, only allowing 3 ounces of meat for dinner, strict guidelines on bread and fatty foods and coffee with no cream and no sugar is allowed in the mornings.
According to Morris, even though this diet is strict and a healthier alternative for those who wish to lose weight quickly, it will not last. In order to keep the weight off that you lose, you must commit to dieting afterward. This means a strict workout regimen and a healthy diet.
I started and completed the Military Diet recently so I could lose some weight for spring break, said junior marketing major Amanda Dragomer. After I came back home, I easily gained the weight back that I lost, but it worked for the time I needed it to. It was hard to do, but better than starving myself for a week in an attempt to lose some weight.
In some instances, diets like the Military Diet can be a smart option in order to lose the bodys water weight in a short period of time, but may be difficult and possibly dangerous to keep up for a longer period of time.
Even though some diets offer quick and easy ways to lose a lot of weight in a little time, keeping your bodys long term health in mind is important.
Theres no secret or magic pill for safe, effective weight loss, Morris said. Some people have success with just tracking their food intake, but making healthy food choices and being active are the best ways to ensure you are losing fat and maintaining lean tissue. At the end of the day, students and young adults are more than able to maintain a healthy, long-term diet without putting their bodies at risk if they set their minds to it. Extreme dieting can take a toll on your body, physically and mentally, and can also cause long-term damage. Learning how to diet correctlyeven though it is a painis worth it.

Disastrous Dieting - Minaret
Here’s why we regain weight so quickly – New York Post

Almost everyone who struggles with weight has been there: Losing weight is cinch, but the biggest battle is keeping it off. So why is persistent weight maintenance so difficult?
One of the main explanations you hear around town is a drop in metabolism. The idea has merit, but it only reveals part of the picture says nutrition scientist, Dr. Tim Crowe.
Our eating habits are very individual and change from day to day, which is why its much easier to measure changes in metabolism compared to accurately tracking what and how much a person eats.
Here are the top four reasons you regain weight and how to prevent it.
You want a quick fix
As a society weve become hard wired to expect everything quickly. We want instant success in everything we do and all our wants and needs to be fulfilled without delay.
Weight loss, though, is anything but immediate. Regardless of whether you continually count calories, avoid carbs or whatever the diet demands, you may get rapid results in the short-term (which is a big motivator for people), but then you need strategies to move into long-term patterns which is why these regimens dont address the underlying reasons why you are overweight.
The sobering reality is the human body will continue to fight against weight loss long after dieting has stopped.
The fix: A better approach is to take the focus off the quickest way to lose weight. Instead, look for positive lifestyle changes which allow you to adapt to new healthy habits, making it less likely that you will revert to old ways.
Youre ravenous (all the time)
A recent clinical trial tested a new drug for treating diabetes on two groups. Results showed that people on the drug, called canagliflozin (which works by making the kidneys excrete more glucose a favorable side effect for weight loss), lost only slightly more weight than the non-drug group. Why? People in the drug treatment group were hungrier which drove them to eat an extra 100 calories each day for every kilogram of weight they lost.
The influence of hunger on weight regain is three-times stronger than a slowing of metabolism. Add the two together it appears almost inevitable that the lost weight will creep back on again for most people adds Crowe. In other words, the more weight you lose, the more you eventually compensate by eating more.
The fix: Hunger is the physiological need for food, which is why its important to never ignore it. Work out a balanced eating plan (including the occasional treat) with a satisfying amount of food that works best for you, and dont be afraid to experiment with eating more if your health isnt where you want it to be.
Mental lapses
For a lot of people, weight loss is a journey that requires a lot of mental preparation and sacrifice. Once they reach their goal weight, the diet is over a mindset that sets the scene for regain.
This is amplified by the fact that the body recalibrates its metabolism as the weight drops, however the effort required to maintaining new eating habits are often difficult to sustain.
The fix: The diet mentality needs to stop. Change your mindsets from weight conscious to health conscious. Refrain from labelling things good or bad and focus on providing your body with sustaining, nourishing food you enjoy.
Rely on willpower
Ever notice when you decide to give up a favorite food, its the only thing you can think about? Restrictive thinking, such as that found in many popular diets, will lead the way down Struggle Street and almost guarantee defeat.
For many, diet means a set amount of time during which you must exercise superhuman willpower to resist temptation and overwhelming hunger at the end of which you can finally reward yourself with junk food binge.
Regaining weight has little to do with poor self-control. Our bodies are primed to fight against weight loss. You can ignore hunger cues for a time, but they will persist for much longer than your willpower, adds Crowe.
The fix: Identify your triggers to overeat: stress, fatigue, boredom, skipping meals and build non-food strategies, such as go for a walk, call a friend, or take a bath instead, rather than relying on willpower.

Eating habits that don’t aid weight loss – Republica

Many of us are constantly on the lookout for ways to lose weight without having to exercise. This is what leads to all kinds of extreme diet plans because we think cutting out certain foods completely will help us lose weight fast. Although most diets claim to reduce the fat percentage in the body, its only the water weight you are actually losing by following these fad diets. The Week talked to Dr Binita Pant to understand why you should never go the extreme way in order to lose weight.
Eating disorders Anorexia Anorexia is a condition where people, be it male or female, are fixated on their body image. This image might have nothing to do with their actual figure and results in erratic eating patterns. In their fear of gaining weight, people often eat small portions and that too, only some kinds of food. Their diet is neither wholesome nor healthy. The root cause of this disorder is based in the psyche where a person often sees him/herself as overweight, even when they are often underweight.
The easiest way to identify this disorder is by checking the hair and the nails of the person. The nails are very brittle and there is excessive hair fall due to the lack of nutrients. Most people also have a low blood cells count, leading to anemia as well as a Vitamin B-12 and a calcium deficiency. Lack of eating also results in dizziness as well as constipation.
Bulimia Another disorder based on a persons perception of him/herself, a bulimic eats excessively, and then, in a frequent cycle, proceeds to purging everything out of their body. They think that this technique will help them take everything out of their system so that they avoid putting on any more weight. Unlike someone suffering from anorexia, bulimic people arent underweight.
The human body isnt made to withstand vomiting on a daily basis. The esophagus is inflamed, the enamel on the teeth erodes, causing yellow teeth, and it also becomes sensitive, with accelerated tooth decay, says Dr Pant.
Binge eating Binge eating is a disorder where people eat a lot of food, more than what is considered to be a normal portion. In a binge eating episode, people will chose to eat alone because they are embarrassed by their large portions. They will also feel guilty after they have finished but they dont vomit as bulimic people do. Instead, they may sometimes go on a spree where they dont eat anything for a few days to compensate for their previous large caloric intake.
This kind of erratic eating pattern messes with the bodys internal functions. Not eating for any length of time wrecks havoc in the metabolism process of the body, creating more problems than solving them, explains Dr Pant.
Purging disorder This disorder is similar to bulimia. However, someone with this disorder doesnt need to eat something first before he/she tries to purge it out of his/her system. Aside from inducing vomit, people may also choose to use a laxative in order to lose some weight.
People who have this disorder usually try to avoid parties and social gatherings where it might not be easy to purge right after a meal. This behavior is thought to be compensatory behavior for the fact that they have eaten. Like bulimia, this type of induced vomiting also leaves the esophagus inflamed, erodes enamel, thus causing yellow teeth, and makes teeth sensitive with accelerated decay.
If you suspect you have or someone you know has any of the above-mentioned eating disorders then you should immediately seek a psychologists help, says Dr Pant adding that they will help you get back on track to eating healthy, and the therapy sessions will help you have an improved self image.
Juice cleanse One of the most popular diets these days is the juice cleanse, or detoxifying. There isnt much evidence to support how good a juice cleanse is for the body. Although it seems like you are consuming enough micronutrients in your fresh fruit juices, you are in fact missing out on carbohydrates and fibers, both of which are essential for bodily functions, says Dr Pant. A one day juice cleanse may not have long term repercussions as even fasting once in a while is considered alright. However, with long term cleanses there are things you need to worry about.
You may start not just losing your water weight, but your muscles mass as well. The body, in the absence of nutrients provided by a proper diet, proceeds to break down your muscles to sustain itself. The lack of sodium and carbohydrates will also make you dizzy. Since there isnt any solid food to slow the process, sugar is digested quickly, and there will be a spike in your blood sugar level due to the naturally occurring sugar in the fruits.
Dieting Dieting often includes skipping meals and having one big meal a day and trying to avoid other meals with many excuses. It relies on an unhealthy low calorie diet to bring your weight under control. This leads to a horde of issues that can range from constipation to deficiency of vitamins and other vital nutrients that the body needs. Most of the weight lost in this kind of diet is gained back quickly when you start eating normally again.
The body needs a certain amount of nutrients everyday in order to be able to carry out all the basic functions. These include carbohydrates, proteins, and healthy fats. When you deprive your body of these, it affects all the internal workings of your body. On an average, the human body usually burns about 1800 to 2000 calories a day. Therefore, you should never starve yourself.
If you have bouts of eating followed by bouts of not eating, the body wont be sure if the necessary amount of micronutrients will come its way or not. Thus it will start storing all the food that comes along for later use. This in turn leads to fat build up in the body. To avoid this, eat small portions of food with a gap of three hours between each meal. Have a low calorie diet, which includes small portions of all the vital nutrients and fill up on salad, says Dr Pant.

Cool Care: Esprit brings chilling new technology to the Lakeway Area – Citizentribune

If you notice a few of your hardworking, community-minded friends are looking a bit refreshed lately and you know darn well that with fundraiser season in full bloom, they havent had time to sneak in surgery then its probably the work of the team at Esprit Medical Spa.
CoolSculpting, is a great fat (and age) reducer in the chin area, and local women have discovered the process is pain-free and results happen within weeks, after multiple treatments.
And the chin is that special area that does not discriminate between women who are thin and those who are not.
When it comes to the chin, weight loss doesnt really matter. Its hereditary, Amy Renner Austin, MSN, FNP-BC, said Some can lose weight and still have the chin.
CoolSculpting is an innovative fat freezing technology designed to safely target and kill fat cells without damaging surrounding tissue. Once fat cells are treated they are gone for good as the body naturally processes the fat and eliminates the dead cells.
The team at Esprit has been booking appointments for beach season, as well; the most popular procedures at the spa are for the areas of the lower abdomen and the flanks (love handles).
There are lot of people interested in the treatment, Austin said.
There is no surgery, no needles, no downtime associated with the CoolSculpting treatments that are FDA-cleared as safe and effective. Most patients return to normal activity immediately after the procedures and most patients see results after one session. Some treatment plans may require multiple sessions just depending on desired results.
It is not weight loss. It is targeted fat reduction for those problem areas, Austin said. We can treat under the chin, back fat, bra fat, abdomen, flanks/sides, inner/outer thigh, underneath the buttock and the arms.
Esprit Medical Spa is operated by the medical professionals of HealthStar Physicians, including Austin, Mikki Brooks, FNP-BC and three trained nurses, under the supervision of Dr. Bonnie Vick. The spa is located in the Family Practice area of the main HealthStar facility at 420 W. Morris Blvd.
Pricing for the various CoolSculpting procedures is determined on a case-by-case basis.
It is priced by the applicator, Austin said. Someone may come in and need two applicators; someone else may need four applicators. There are different needs for different areas: abdomen, flank, banana roll (just below the butt) and bra fat, both front and back.
The FDA approval for CoolSculpting treatments means a number of trials were completed by the agency It means the procedure is safe, with no permanent damage, Austin said. There is very little discomfort, if any, experienced. Any redness dissipates within 15 to 20 minutes; there may be slightly more on the flank areas. Ive never had a patient have significant bruising.
Most of the procedures are completed within 45 minutes or less. The areas of the outer thigh can take up to 75 minutes, Austin said. The spa offers private areas with television screens and selections of movies for patients.
We turn off the lights; they watch a movie and then they go, Austin said.
Austin has been doing CoolSculpting for about six months and said the response has been good.
We have people who come in and get their belly done, then they want to have their flanks done, or vice-versa, Austin said. The oldest person was 85; the youngest was 23; we do all age ranges. It is safe for basically everybody and anybody.
The procedures are considered cosmetic and are not covered by insurance; however, Esprit Medical Spa offers Care Credit financing.
Consultations are free; the spa also offers Botox and Juviderm and other fillers.
For any spa service, we do free consultation, Austin said. We can talk to you about pricing, options and all that stuff. We discuss risks, side effects and look at your health history. We also talk about expectations. We will tell people who are very obsese, it will reduce some fat, but you are not going to see dramatic weight loss. It is targeted fat reduction.
CoolSculpting uses controlled cooling to target and kill only these fat cells. Cooling is applied causing fat cells to undergo apoptosis (cellular death) and they begin to collapse. Over the next 8-12 weeks the body uses its natural macrophages to digest and consume the dead fat cells and lipids within the cells. It doesnt impact an individuals kidneys, liver or cholesterol.
After treatment, about 20 percent of fat cells are destroyed in the treated area. This means permanently less fat in the treated area.
