BOSTON, MA--(Marketwired - March 29, 2017) - The 8-Hour Diet, created by David Zinczenko tries to utilize a simple diet concept referred to as 'the feeding window.' The diet limits eating to within an 8-hour period which then followed by a 16-hour fasting window within a 24-hour period. The theory is based around intermittent fasting, which is a popular diet technique based on the premise that the human body runs optimally after a period of rest and repair in which the gut is not digesting food. Calorie counting is not adhered to on this diet, though Zinczenko does suggest that portion size should be controlled. There are no forbidden foods on the diet and aside from consuming low-calorie drinks, an individual can eat whatever they choose as long as it remains within their 8-hour window. Also permitted but not required is Zinczenko's 8-minute fat burning exercise program.
Diet Doc's Medical Director, Dr. Nishant Rao finds that the diet shares some common ground with effective weight loss program but still misses the mark. "Diet Doc uses 8-hour feeding windows and occasionally even 6 or 7 in order to decrease glucose and fat utilization during the fasting window," states Dr. Rao. Lets start off with a general introduction. How would you describe yourself, what are you all about and how did you get involved in health and fitness?
I was working in sports media. I presented the news and worked as a reporter but sports has always been in my life. And sports resulted in one of the happiest moments of my life. I was going to the gym from time to time and lifted weights.
I was unemployed for some time. I dedicated myself to sports more during that period. And my progress made me happier. Yes, I realised that was the place where I belonged. I did not return to my media work and started to compete instead. Now, I am an IFBB athlete.
Where does your motivation come from?
My ambition for winning is what triggers my motivation. I constantly want to make myself better. My trainer is an important factor. His name is Ali Emre who is also an IFBB athlete and classic bodybuilder Europe and World Champion. He is an incredible man that motivates me.
As you decided to make a career out of your passion - what were your biggest stumbling blocks along the way?
The sport is still fairly uncommon in my country which at times can be a challenge. The fitness market here is not developed yet. There is very little investment in athletes. I always had to work hard in order to pay for my competitions. And I am still working.
Whats your perspective on the importance of self-care?
Looking after yourself means that you respect yourself. In other words, looking after yourself is some kind of taking care of your own environment. A motivated person who is and thinks positively, looks after him or herself. Not only physically but also mentally.
What are some of the biggest misconceptions about women lifting weight?
Women think that they will become Arnold a month into lifting weights, which is completely wrong. They abstain from weight lifting and always complain about not getting into shape. Women think that their appearance will be deformed immediately and abstain from doing sports or chose the wrong training methods, such as doing cardio for 2 hours! It will never be like you think, believe me.

Many young women who want to lose weight believe that not eating is the way to do it, without realising the consequences of that kind of behavior.
Why do you think this is and whats your perspective on educating society on healthy nutrition habits?
Those wrong ideas come from lack of research. Or wrong dietary suggestions. All facts can be obtained as a result of curiosity and research. When women think of losing weight quickly, they use information obtained without effort; for example the advice of friends. They do not question anything. I believe this is not related to education but the person must question the situation that he/she is experiencing.
What are the most unexpected lessons youve learned on your health and fitness journey this far?
The biggest lesson I have ever learned is that there is only one right, so make sure you choose who you listen to and take advice from carefully.
What do you do to maintain balance in your life?
I am familiar with discipline and maintaining order. This is not something new to me. I am only restricted by time but otherwise I feel perfectly balanced. I have a very busy schedule and thus I live like a soldier. This allows me to keep things in balance.
How do you stay productive?
I like to win. I breathe thanks to my objectives. Some women become happy by going on vacation or shopping. I become happy by setting goals and achieving them. Struggling keeps me strong. I like living like I am in an adventure. And I get a sense of winning from others.
Can you give a breakdown of your current diet, training and supplementation regimen and the thinking behind it?
This depends on the period but generally my diet is based on a high carbohydrate and protein system. I take 2 grams of protein and 6 grams of carbohydrate per kilogram of bodyweight. I eat all sorts of vegetables and fruits. My diet has various elements and it is joyful.
I have an intensive training schedule without limiting myself. I am a lucky athlete as my metabolism is fast and I do not get fat. Walnut and hazelnut are fat sources that I like. Black rice is my favourite.
If you could only choose one thing, what would you tell your younger self?
When I fell in love, I wasted a lot of my time for nothing. I'd definitely say not to spend your time for nothing.
What are your goals for 2017?
I saw the semi finals in Europe last year. My biggest goal for this year is to rank higher. I worked so much and I believe I deserve this!

Sunderland and England striker Jermain Defoe has turned to veganism in a bid to stay on top of his game at 34.
Defoe ended a three-and-a-half-year absence from the international stage on Sunday, opening the scoring in England's 2-0 win over Lithuania at Wembley.
That was the latest instalment in a remarkable resurgence for a player whose career appeared to be winding down when he swapped Tottenham for Toronto in 2014.
Since returning to the Premier League with Sunderland he has been one of the division's most reliable scorers, with 14 goals this season despite his club's perilous position at the bottom of the table.
Defoe has long been teetotal, is an enthusiastic advocate of cryotherapy treatment, practises yoga and is now cutting animal products from his diet.
"I have a better understanding of my body now," he said. "Everyone wants to feel fresh in the game, there's no better feeling, so I'm just making sure I'm doing the right things -- cryotherapy, massage, eating the right things ... trying to turn vegan.
"That's a funny one because when I go to my Mum's she's got every kind of meat you can imagine out on the table.
"It was my girlfriend's idea. She said to me, 'You've got to do it,' and she's always showing me these documentaries and that. It's always nice to have someone around you to who helps you and drives you on and wants you to do well."
He added: "I don't find anything hard because I know the feeling of scoring goals.
"So getting in an ice bath and all that isn't nice, but I just think, 'You know what? I'm going to do this and be rewarded.' It's hard, but in another way it's easy because all I want to do is play well and score goals.
"The key thing for me is recovery, giving yourself the best opportunity to perform in the next game, and I seem to have got that to a tee. There's a lot of things I do away from training and away from matchday that help me perform, so I'll just keep doing that."
Defoe has endured his fair share of disappointment since arriving on the international scene in 2004, missing out on the World Cup two years later as well as the last two major tournaments during his exile under Roy Hodgson.
Current boss Gareth Southgate has opened the door for him to put that right in Russia next year, provided he can retain form and fitness, a last hurrah that would go a long way towards making up for the past.
"My mum always said, 'It's not how you start it's how you finish,' and years later I'm back in the squad and scoring goals for my country,'' he said.
"I never give up. In my mind I was trying to be realistic and with the previous manager [Hodgson] I didn't feel like I was getting an opportunity. There was times I was scoring goals, especially last season, and I wasn't selected for the Euros. I felt like I finished the season strong, but I was realistic and felt like maybe I wasn't going to get an opportunity."
Asked how he was informed that his stellar form for Sunderland would not be enough to earn a recall for Euro 2016, he added: "I didn't get a call. I found out on the telly.
"It was heartbreaking. Only because in my heart I felt like I'd done enough to be involved."

The ketogenic diet has been quietly developing a cult following online. Maybe you've heard about it, or maybe you haven't. The main thing you need to know about "keto," the popular nickname for the diet, is that it's high-fat, moderate protein, and low-carb. Many people who have tried the diet say the results are unbelievable. It's known to help with more than just weight loss, too, and has been credited to helping with diabetes, Lyme disease, epilepsy, and anxiety.

If you're interested in trying the diet, here's what you need to know first.
'Cause you can't have 'em! Technically speaking, you will have carbs about 20 grams (of net carbs) per day. The source of these carbs will be vegetables, probably. But the point of this diet is to get your body to stop running on carbs. So prepare to trade in pizza, bread, pasta, and even quinoa for salads, olive oil, avocado, and meat. BUT, before you say, "hell no, I won't go," know that you can have some of your favorites, like bacon, ranch dressing, and even butter.
Wait, is butter a carb? Kidding!
Fat is your new fuel. You're going to need lots of it: roughly 90 grams per day, depending on your body and weight loss goal. Finding sources of good fat isn't too difficult, though just reach for some almonds, macadamia nuts, and avocado.
And forget everything you've heard about fatty foods and don't even think about buying anything that's low-fat; that's the opposite of what you're trying to achieve here.
Think about it: Your body has to adjust to starchy carbs going MIA. You'll probably experience something that people refer to as "keto flu." Basically, when your body is going through the transition into ketosis, you'll feel some flu-like symptomsmostly headaches. But don't worry, it won't last too long.
Bacon will get you through. Of course, having bacon every day isn't a healthy choice, but having it at brunch will make you feel like you're still a human while your friends scarf down waffles, home fries, and toast.
If you think you can just eat keto-friendly foods and that will be all it takes, you're in for a real surprise. The truth is, you have to weigh everything you eat so that you can calculate everything you eat and keep track of your macronutrients. You're going to have daily goals of how much fat, protein, and carbs you should eat, and if you don't reach them, you won't see any results. In fact, if you start stuffing your face with all the bacon and cheese you can get, you might actually gain weight. So don't cut corners.
As part of the diet, you'll have to check for net carbs (total carbs minus dietary fiber) on food labels constantly. It's not really a bad thing, but get ready to be the person who says "there's way too many carbs in that!"
Going out to eat isn't the easiest thing in the world. There are absolutely keto options on almost every menu, but you're always going to be wondering, "what kind of oil was this cooked in?" Or "were these chicken wings breaded?" And nights out drinking with your friends? Be careful. You won't have the tolerance you had before (on the plus side, you'll save money on drinks) and you might not want to drink at all. Why mess up progress with alcohol?
It's hard to explain keto to others. If you want to fully emerge yourself in the diet, you need to a lot about it. And trying to regurgitate all of that info to someone who isn't on keto can be difficult. People will ask you why you want to deprive yourself of carbs, but you just have to keep your mind set on your goals.
I don't just mean your abs which will feel slim and less bloated. If you have stomach issues, like bloating, IBS, or just chronic food comas, you'll feel so much better on keto. You won't eat just to eat, you'll eat to reach your daily intake goals. For a lot of people on keto, they say they don't even feel hungry. Imagine that, being satisfied after your meal? #Goals.
If you feel like none of your friends understand the diet, don't worry about that. Not only can you google all of your burning keto questions, but you can find communities online of other people who are doing the diet. You can share recipes and success stories, struggles, and setbacks. You're never alone.

If you've been trying to take your athletic talent to the next level and just can't seem to take the leap, maybe adopt Dwight Howard's approach.
Eat 5,000 calories per day. Of pure candy. That's the equivalent of two dozen candy bars a day. One every hour. If you're a dentist reading this, you've already passed out.
But that's exactly what Howard did for over a decade, according to a recentESPN feature.
"Skittles, Starbursts, Rolos, Snickers, Mars bars, Twizzlers, Almond Joys, Kit Kats and oh, how he loved Reese's Pieces," the article said."He'd eat them before lunch, after lunch, before dinner, after dinner, and like any junkie, he had stashes all over -- in his kitchen, his bedroom, his car, a fix always within reach."
Howard had a particular affinity for Skittles.
"Am I a big candy person? That's an understatement," he told ESPN in 2013. "My pantry is full of candy. Skittles just sent me 30 pounds of Skittles. I have a nightstand full of every candy you could think of. Skittles, blow pops, Laffy Taffy, Reese's Pieces, Kit Kats, all types of candy was in the drawer. They had to clear it out."
Lest you worry that Howard might be on a one-way road to diabetes, heremoved sugar from his diet in 2013 at the recommendation of Lakers nutritionistDr. Cate Shanahan. Howard overhauled his diet after saying he felt that his lack of conditioning was costing his team games.
It was quite the task to remove all the sweet stuff from his house.
"She told his assistants to empty his house, and they hauled out his monstrous candy stash in boxes -- yes, boxes, plural," the March ESPN article said.
Howard claims he feels better, but it is worth noting that his scoring output has dipped from 18.3 points per game in the 2013-14 season to 13.3 points per game this season.
Maybe he should start sneaking a candy bar or two into his pregame meal.

A new study finds that a diet high in fiber could help offset the occurrence of Type 1, or juvenile, diabetes.
Scientists found that instances of the rodent equivalent of juvenile diabetes was eliminated in a group of mice fed a particular high fiber diet, the Guardian reports.
The findings were provided by researches at Monash University in Melbourne working with Australias national science agency.
The hope is that successful testing in humans will lead to the development of a fiber supplement to be given to children, either in meals or beverages.
Type 1 diabetes is an anomaly in which the body produces little or no insulin, the hormone needed to process glucose. The condition usually develops in children before the age of 14.
Around 1.25 million children and adults in the U.S. were reported to have Type 1 diabetes in 2012, according to data from the American Diabetes Association.
