7 Reasons Why You Don’t Need to Exercise to Lose Weight – The Good Men Project (blog)

Without fail, all of my clients lose weight without even trying to lose weight, and without any formal exercise besides walking and some light cardio or aerobics a few times per week.
Question: Do you think you need to exercise every day to be healthy? Are you fixated on the outcome of losing weight? Do you value quick weight loss over learning, adopting, training, and mastering an entire new life-skill (being healthy)?
Im here to discuss your relationship with food and the process toward mastery, as opposed to chasing desired outcomes (i.e.,losing weight, looking good, feeling good, etc.)all of which will happen if we construct a lifestyle and mindset that support success.
Dieting is fundamentally at odds with learning and is the explicit reason why you havent been successful achieving or maintaining health and happiness.
Regarding diet and exercise and everything else the media pushes at you
Your goal should not be to lose as much weight as quickly as possible; your goal should be to master your diet. Exhausting yourself to death at the gym confuses your bodily needs and, paradoxically, will make you fat.
1.) Dont confuse your goals
Your goal is NOT to lose as much weight as possible, as quickly as possible. The goal is to master your diet and learn the process by which you learn this vital new life skill. That means, ultimately, mastering yourself. Learning your triggers, training new habits, investing your time and deep focus on taking back control and healing your relationship with food. You will lose weight as a result of your committing to the process. After you master your diet, you will be in an informed and empowered place to strategically add more physical exertion to your loadif its even necessary at all.
2.) 80 percent of your body composition will be determined by your diet
Yes, exercise is important to health and to speed up fat-burning and muscle-building, but the vast majority of your results will come from how you eat. If given the ultimatum, you should 100/100 times focus on mastering your diet BEFORE adding a bunch of exercise to your plate.
I made a free ebook for you to get started on your diet.
3.) Exercise is an additive behavior
For the sake of efficiency, its easier to rein in your diet and make incremental changes than to spend surplus time at the gym to make up for bad eating.
4.) Burnout: AVOID IT
Far too often, novices will start their journey toward health by throwing themselves all in and adding 3-5 days of exercise per week right out of the gate, while also attempting to learn how to actually implement this new diet thing theyre trying out for the first time.
If you have significant weight to lose, how likely is it that you will burn yourself out? Very likely. If you havent exercised in a while, how likely is it that you will burn yourself out? Very likely.
Dont do that!
5.) Incremental, iterative progress
Its far less sexy but infinitely more effective to start your evolution with low barriers to entry that you can hit consistently, dominate, and then improve upon.
For example: Walking.
Go for a 20-30min walk five days per week for 3 weeks before you even consider formal exercise. If you can do that, then youre ready to add one day of resistance training or intensive cardio. Maintain that for 3weeks and then add a 2nd day of intensive exercise.
Youll arrive at the same destination you ultimately desire with the aggressive approach, but the difference is that you ultimately LEARN how to do it. You learn how to embody this new lifestyle. Most importantly, you learn to focus on your diet first, repair your relationship with food, and understand your bodys needs first, before throwing yourself into the ringer.
Powerful.
6.) You dont have to earn it
You dont have to earn your health. Do you have to concentrate and focus and spend time with it? Yes, of course. But you can work WITH, instead of against your body. You dont have to deplete yourself of all energy to lose weight; you dont have to exercise for hours on end trying to burn off fat. Killing yourself for hours in the gym or doing cardio is an utter waste of time. Let me repeat: its an utter waste of time.
Unless you are an athlete then you dont need to be training for multiples of hours per week. Unless you want sub 10 percent body fat as a man and 20 percent as a woman, you dont need to spend more than an hour or two per week, total. And it doesnt have to be that hard.
7.) Exercise to feel good, not burn fat
Take the long-game, invest in mastering your diet with the intent of making yourself feel goodnot to burn fat. Burning fat is a marketing term that doesnt mean anything!
I have no problem with exercise. In fact I encourage it.
That said, killing yourself for the sake of expediency will backfire. Theres a very clear point of diminishing returns, and theres a threshold of effectiveness, which, if crossed, will undo our work aimed at mastery and learning.
Burning yourself out will increase your metabolism which will make you want to eat more. Which is at direct odds with what were trying to accomplish here: mastering your diet and building a new lifestyle. Were trying to gain control in a slow progression, so lets not confuse objectives.

Diet Doc Helps Patients Lose Weight Fast Without Harmful Diets Like The Original hCG Diet – Marketwired (press release)

HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwired - March 15, 2017) - Finding a reliable and healthy diet is a challenge, even though more than two-thirds of Americans suffer from excess weight gain or obesity. Many individuals battle excessive hunger between meals; insatiable cravings for unhealthy food; inability to control eating behavior or speed; and eating continuously throughout the day without any planned mealtimes. Physical inactivity and stressful lifestyles fueled by emotional eating make matters much worse.
Fad diets like the original hCG diet seem to offer a solution to these issues, making it more difficult than ever to identify an ideal diet plan. The original hCG diet, often referred to as the Simeons Diet, recommends taking low doses of hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) and limiting daily consumption to just 500 calories. Unfortunately, this extreme starvation-based weight loss method leads to issues like hair loss and muscle weakness. The original hCG diet was largely unsuccessful because of its primary focus on calorie restriction and uninhibited administration of hCG without adequate understanding of health consequences.
Diet Doc, a nationally recognized weight loss program, has consistently discouraged the original Simeons method of hCG dieting and educated patients about alternatives that involve consuming between 800 to 1250 calories everyday without significantly reducing the rate of weight loss. For patients seriously considering the hCG diet, high-calorie programs that involve safer weight loss are recommended, alongside doctor-supervision and diet customization based on nutritional needs.
Regardless of their weight loss history or individual struggles, Diet Doc helps patients develop an individualized diet based on their nutritional needs or even their genetics. All Diet Doc programs, provide a doctor-supervised, customized diet plan. Instead of encouraging patients to adopt harmful dietary practices with no prior medical knowledge, Diet Doc consults with patients to provide a detailed weight loss plan based on their nutritional needs and medical history.
Losing weight with Diet Doc is safe, simple and affordable. Nutrition plans, exercise guidance, motivational support, and dietary supplements are all part of the package. Over 90% of Diet Doc patients report an average weight loss of 20 or more pounds every month and long-term weight loss maintenance is made possible through continuous counseling.
Patients can get started immediately, with materials shipped directly to their home or office. They can also maintain weight loss in the long-term through weekly consultations, customized diet plans, motivational coaches and a powerful prescription program. With Diet Doc, the doctor is only a short phone call away and a fully dedicated team of qualified professionals is available 6 days per week to answer questions, address concerns and support patients.
Getting started with Diet Doc is very simple and affordable. New patients can easily visit https://www.dietdoc.com to quickly complete a health questionnaire and schedule an immediate, free online consultation.

RIVERBANKS ZOO (WJBF) Are you looking for a wild way to start your day? Its Wild Encounters where we go behind the scenes at Riverbanks Zoo giving you a great look at some of the cool things the animals do, what the zookeepers do and give you some unique looks which you wouldnt normally see.
So were starting off with one of their newest exhibits, maybe you havent seen it yet. Its the seals and sea lions.
Alyson tells us a little bit about seals and sea lions.
Well, we actually have five California sea lions, four of those are male, one is female. And then we have one harbor seal, so hes our lone wolf but he definitely runs the pool.
Alright, so tell us, I guess, the different between the seals and the sea lions.
So, the seal is smaller. They kind of max out at two to three hundred pounds. The sea lions can get anywhere up to eight hundred pounds or so. Our largest right now is Baja. Hes our full grown. Hes fourteen years old but he weighs probably about five hundred and sixty pounds.
So thats athats a pretty big animal, so a lot goes into feeding them, so how much about do they eat every day then?
Well, Baja, he currently gets thirty two pounds of food. Anywhere under that, Gambit only gets about seven, thats our seal, so its a range from there but we actually do have to adjust their food on a regular basis because they can gain weight so quickly and lose weight so quickly that were constantly getting weights on them and constantly changing what their diet is.
Alright, so we have some of this food here right behind us so explain to us what we have here in the buckets for them that they eat every day.
So this is actually their morning training food, so theres more food in our fridges back here, so this is an example of what they would get for their morning training sessions. So we have three types of fish here. We have capelin, we have squid and we have cut herring.
And we were talking earlier before we started filming, some of them have squid in here and some dont and its not for something specific other than some of them just dont like squid.
Yes, sometimes a mammal just doesnt really care for a type of fish and thats ok. We just work around it.
Right, so, I mean, its just like people. Its not like you just throw out the same food and theyre all ok with it. Some of them have particular taste so we make sure they avoid that. And also, we have some vitamins back here for them as well. What are we looking at?
Yep, so back here, they need supplements just like we do. They dont necessarily eat all the fish that they would in the wild so we have a couple different types of vitamins that we give them. Theres vitamin E. Theres vitamin B. And then over here, these blue ones are actually just called Sea Tabs.
Were learning about what theyre eating but with seals and sea lions, theyre intelligent animals. They can do some cool stuff. Theyre fun to watch, so of course, were going to see some of that training coming up.
In the next edition of Wild Encounters two weeks from now, well have a look at their training. Well see them in action and give you an idea of what when you come to Riverbanks Zoo, you can see.

Winter driving tips – KMBC Kansas City

Winter can be one of the most dangerous times to drive. Consider these tips so you know how to act in a winter-related emergency. Don't let this be you as you travel during the winter season.
Icy roads, cause your tires to lose traction. When approaching a stop, you should begin breaking from a distance and leave yourself three times the space between you and the car in front of you to avoid running into any vehicles. -National Safety Council
Break gradually, but if you notice your wheels locking up take your foot off the break. Never slam on your breaks.-National Safety Council
You should always drive with your lights on in light or heavy winter conditions. Before you leave your location, check your lights to make sure they are working correctly. -National Safety Council
Clean your windshield, wipers, and lights.-National Safety Council
Get a grip!
Low gears are the best way to gain traction, even on hills. -National Safety Council
Unfortunately, it's imperative that you be able to react to whatever condition the road is in. Cruise control is dangerous on icy roads so avoid using it at all costs. -National Safety Council
Areas that don't get a lot of traffic may freeze first, even when temperatures are above freezing. Be alert while crossing these bridges and roads. Be aware of the possible icy areas that aren't visible as well. -National Safety Council
Don't overtake a snow plow truck no matter how much of a hurry you are in. Allow them to do their job so you can get where you are going safely. -National Safety Council
Any car, four wheel or front wheel, can have difficulties in winter conditions. Keep that in mind.
What do you do if your rear wheels skid?
Ease off the gas.
Steer into the direction your rear tires are going. For example, if your car is skidding left, turn the car left while gently pumping the breaks, if they are standard breaks.
However, if your car has anti-lock brakes (ABS), push hard on them instead of pumping to regain control, while also steering in the direction you are skidding.
What about if your front wheels skid?
A front wheel skid occurs when the front wheels do not go in the direction of the steering wheel.
Your front wheels need traction. Gently release the gas pedal and press the break to add weight to the front of the car and thus regain traction. Don't slam the breaks because that could lock them, and make situations worse.
Getting in stuck in the snow is a scary thought, but can happen. Here's how you should handle this situation.
"Do not spin your wheels. This will only dig you in deeper. Then, use a light touch on the gas, to ease your car out."-National Safety Council
"Turn your wheels from side to side a few times to push snow out of the way."- National Safety Council
"Use a shovel to clear snow away from the wheels and the underside of the car."-National Safety Council
"Pour sand, kitty litter, gravel or salt in the path of the wheels, to help get traction."- National Safety Council
Try rocking the vehicle. (Check your owner's manual first it can damage the transmission on some vehicles.) Shift from forward to reverse, and back again. "- National Safety Council
Another way to avoid accidents is to prepare early by winterizing your car.
"Checking the ignition, brakes, wiring, hoses and fan belts."-National Safety Council
"Changing and adjusting the spark plugs.Checking the air, fuel and emission filters, and the PCV valve. Finally, inspecting the distributor. " National Safety Council
"Checking the battery."- National Safety Council
"Checking the tires for air, sidewall wear and tread depth. Checking antifreeze levels and the freeze line."-National Safety Council
"A complete emergency kit includes a properly inflated spare tire, wheel wrench and tripod-type jack, a shovel, jumper cables, tow and tire chains, bag of salt or cat litter, and tool kit."- National Safety Council

Softball: Notre Dame squeaks by Salinas – The Salinas Californian

Vanessa Gonzalez knew she didnt have her best stuff after jamming her finger in the first inning, but when the Notre Dame Spirits needed their starting pitcher the most, she delivered.
Gonzalez struck out Salinas Josephine Villarreal swinging with runners on second and third to secure a 5-4 Spirits win over the Cowboys at the Salinas Sports Complex.
Notre Dame head coach Tom Cardinale said the strikeout to end the game was when Gonzalez was at her finest in the circle.
Her and I had some exchanges about its time to compete here and thats when she opened up the outside part of the plate and it wasnt hittable, Cardinale said. Vanessa can do that when shes 100 percent where its really tough to hit that ball. You have to be a really good batter (to make contact there) and I think at the end of the game is where she really turned that on.
Notre Dame would score in the top of the first as Shantal Martinez would race home from third on a pass ball to give the Spirits a 1-0 lead.
Salinas wouldnt waste any time evening up the score as the Cowboys struck in the bottom half of the inning when Leslie Romero would single in Josselyn Barriga to tie the game at 1-1.
In the bottom of the third inning, Salinas would score another run.
After a leadoff triple from Neveah Pinon, Marrisa Bustamante would drive Pinion in with an RBI single to give the Cowboys a 2-1 lead.
The 2-1 lead would hold for the Cowboys until the Spirits answered in the top of the fifth with a two-run double from Alexia Torculas to give Notre Dame a 3-2 lead.
Cardinale said it was just a matter of time before the middle of his lineup got going against the Cowboys.
I have a group of girls that are all going to hit the ball hard, Cardinale said. Alexia was right there. Shes going to make good, hard contact somewhere. Logan before her, Lauren Pullara before her. We kind of stack them up that way and I knew somebody was going to connect and it was going to be time to score.
We had a lot of hard outs that were right at people. All of a sudden we had to make an adjustment and get a little bit more top part of the ball, get the ball to touch the grass and all of a sudden good things happen.
Torculas who went 3-for-4 with two RBIs in the game said she was excited to have that clutch hit when her team needed it.
Lately Ive been actually struggling at-bat, Torculas said. I was just trying to have a positive mentality, I was telling myself I was not going down without a fight.
I told myself any pitch that comes close to me, Im going to try and get a base hit and do the most for my team.
Salinas would get the two runs back in the bottom of the fifth as Villarreal would drive in Kayla Stone and Pinon with a double to left-center field and give Salinas a 4-3 lead.
Romero who struck out for the first out in the inning after Stone reached with a single said the hit by Villarreal put a charge in the Salinas dugout.
We were so hyped, Romero said. We knew we were in this (and that) we could win. We just knew it.
Staring at a deficit once more, Notre Dame would regain the lead one final time.
The Spirits would manufacture a run in the top of the sixth inning via an error, a walk, a hit batter and a sacrifice fly by Kaeli Bush which brought across Rachel Reimal to tie the game at 4-4.
Cardinale said before his team headed out to take its at-bats in the top of the sixth, he sensed a different kind of attitude from them.
We were probably at our best ready to compete mode at the top of the sixth, Cardinale said. Thats where our girls finally got their attention.
The game remained tied at 4-4 heading into the top of the seventh when leadoff hitter Logan Riggenbach stepped to the plate.
Riggenbach roped a low line drive to center field as Ashley Isla closed in an attempt to short hop the line drive.
The ball skipped under Islas glove and rolled toward deep center as Riggenbach turned it into overdrive and began to race around the bases.
I was just looking at my third base coach, Riggenbach said. He wasnt stopping me, so I knew I was going home.
As Riggenbach rounded third and made it home safely for the inside-the-park home run, Gonzalez summed up her feelings of the play.
I was relieved, Gonzalez said like the weight of the world was immediately lifted off her shoulders.
Torculas added some excitement to the game-changing moment.
I was up next to bat and I was screaming at home plate, trying to encourage her (to make it home), Torculas said.
Cardinale said he knew a big play was potentially coming once the ball left Riggenbachs bat.
I knew once she didnt land glove on it, it was (going to be trouble), Cardinale said. Logan hustles. I knew she going to round it (third base).
With a 5-4 lead and three outs remaining for the Cowboys, Salinas showed it was not going to back down without a fight.
The Cowboys sent the middle of their order to the plate in the bottom of the seventh and after Stone and Romero both reached via singles to set up a two on, no out situation, Salinas appeared to be setting up for a comeback of its own.
Salinas head coach Lauren Jimenez would then have Pinion sacrifice the runners to second and third with one out.
Gonzalez said she wasnt thinking of the situation and just worried about the batters coming up.
Ive been in worse positions so I knew I could get through it, Gonzalez said.
With the game-winning run on second base, Gonzalez got Bustamante to ground out to second base before striking out Villarreal to end the game.
Romero said Gonzalez pitched a good game, but the Cowboys bats need to make more solid contact at the plate.
She was going in and out on us, throwing her rise ball which got some of us, Romero said. Other than that, we were hitting the ball fine, we just need to get on it more.
We stayed in it with Notre Dame when people doubted us. We proved them wrong and we could do it.
Now 10-0 on the season, Cardinale said the Spirits cant get comfortable with their record.
We need to keep our energy up and we have to be very focused on doing all of the little things correctly, Cardinale said. If we do that, well be a hard team to beat, but anybody can lose on any give day. Our league is tough and we know that.

Lynn students punching away at fitness – Daily Item

PHOTO BY SCOTT EISEN Aidi Domenech of Lynn Classical High School boxes at Title Boxing in Saugus.
By GAYLA CAWLEY
SAUGUS About 40 Lynn Classical High School students took a brief reprieve from classes on Monday to roll with the punches at Title Boxing Club.
The physical education/health students ranged from ninth- to 12th-graders, and from all different fitness levels. When they arrived at the gym in Saugus for their one-hour boxing class, the teenagers had their hands wrapped to prep for the punching bag.
Colleen Peterson, a PE/Health teacher at Classical, said she thought the class would be a hit because theres interest in boxing at the school, and its becoming a trend.
We do a lot of fitness-based curriculum in our PE classes, so I feel like this is going to really complement it, Peterson said. Its really for lifetime fitness, them seeing this as teenagers, because not everyone thats in PE right now is an athlete, so I feel like its really going to give them exposure to life after high school sports and keeping in shape.
Peterson said she and the other PE teachers decided to put the idea out there and see if 50 kids would sign up. Forty signed up by the deadline last Friday. Title was doing the class for free, and students only had to pay for their hand wraps. The $10 sign-up fee included transportation by bus. Peterson said it was the first time she and the other PE teachers have done a field trip similar to the boxing class, and she was hoping to do it every semester if it went well.
It gives them a great cross-training experience, said Joan Wiendczak, a PE teacher. We dont want them to do the same exercise everyday because your body gets used to that. Enabling them to do something like this will cross-train them and use new muscles that perhaps they werent using before, and get them out and doing something that would interest them that they otherwise wouldnt be exposed to.
Goudreau keeps rockin in Swampscott
Wiendczak said the boxing class takes on all fitness levels. She said the whole idea was to get the students to move around and strengthen, so their fitness level continues to go up.
I just thought it was interesting, said Eric Lluveres, 18, a senior, about why he wanted to take the class. I used to box before and I thought it was a good opportunity to get back into it.
Eric Lopez, 18, a senior, said he came for the experience. He said he has boxed a little bit before, but nothing too serious.
When asked if it provided a nice break from the school day, he said, Its not every day you get to come to the gym like this and box.
Senior Gilley Kabamba, 18, also thought the class would be interesting and was hoping to learn.
Junior Julie Mejia, 18, signed up because she thought the class looked exciting and to get a good workout.
Shakia Warner, 17, a junior, said she usually boxes at home.
I box all the time with my dad, so I guess I just like boxing, Warner said.
Lucky Henry, a fitness instructor at Title Boxing Club, said before the class that the students would be taken through a warm-up and then would be shown how to punch. They would engage in shadow punching and would go through a full-body workout.
After eight rounds of punching and combinations, he said they would do 15 minutes of ab and core work. He said everything in boxing is generated through the core. Kicking, punching, all of it comes from balance, Henry added.
Henry said anyone can take the class.
Its not a competition with anybody, he said. Its all based on yourself. What can you do with the amount of time youre given?
