When does Mutiny start on Channel 4, who is presenter Ant Middleton and what was the Mutiny on the Bounty? – The Sun

The new Channel 4 documentary will reenact the 1789 journey of lieutenant William Bligh and his crew of 18 loyalists

IF youre looking for weight loss tips, Channel 4 documentary Mutiny should come with a dont try this at home warning.

Thats because presenter Ant Middleton and his crew lost up to four stone in as many weeks as they carried out a 3,600 mile voyage on stormy seas as they reenacted the 1879 journey of lieutenant William Bligh, the captain of the HMS Bounty.

Along the way they faced storms, famine and the biggest test of their mental strength, which will certainly make for gripping viewing.

Channel 4

Mutiny is Channel 4s new documentary which follows a nine-strong crew accomplishing a 3,600 mile journey in the South Pacific first carried out by lieutenant William Bligh and 18 loyalists in a rickety 23-foot long ship in 1879.

The voyage took the crew 48 days and tested the physical and mental strength of everyone involved.

Jamie Fry

Captain of the boat, Ant Middleton, is a survival expert, but even he revealed it pushed him to his limits, telling the Radio Times: Mentally speaking it was the hardest thing I have ever done.

There was a real and ever-present risk out there at sea.

The show starts on Channel 4 on Monday, March 6th at 9pm and continues on Tuesday, March 7th at the same time.

Ant Middleton is a Special Forces professional who is best known for appearing on SAS Who Dares Wins.

Born in Portsmouth in 1981, Ant grew up in rural France and aged 16,he joined the Royal Engineers before moving to the Royal Marines five years later.

He also spent time in 9 Parachute Squadron Royal before passing the selection tests to join the Special Boat Service in 2008.

This means he has served in the holy trinity of the UKs elite special forces, before leaving the armed forces in 2012.

Jamie Fry

The nine crew members of Mutiny set off with the same rations as William Bligh, including 16 x 2lb pieces of salt pork - which was replaced with biltong due to customs regulations) and 28 gallons of water which had to last them 48 days.

Ant lost over three stone in four weeks while Luke Kane, the boats doctor, lost four stone.

Ant said: I knew how hard it was going to be so I put on an extra ten kilogrammes to my normal 85kg weight before setting off.

"I lost all of that and 11kg of my own natural body weight so 21kgs in total. I think that indicates how tough it was.

Alamy

In 1879, British navy ship HMS Bounty was sailing from Tahiti to the West Indies but during the 17 month voyage, a huge rift developed between the crew and its tough young captain - William Bligh.

In the middle of the South Pacific, a rebellion broke out, and Captain Bligh along with a handful of loyal men were forced into a tiny open boat and left to die.

Miraculously, they managed to survive and navigate 4000 miles to safety, despite being in some of the world's most remote and unforgiving seas.

Chrissy Teigen Says She ‘Does It All’ Because She ‘Has Help’ – Huffington Post

In a recent interview with Yahoo Style, the model displayed her signature candor while discussing her experience as a working mom. Teigen and her husband, John Legend, have a 10-month-old daughter named Luna.

In addition to raising her baby girl, Teigen still works as a model, co-hosts Spike TVs Lip Sync Battle, and is developing her second cookbook. When asked how she does it all, the mom had a simple answer: Having help.

My mom lives with us. I have hair and makeup people, Teigen said. Im not getting up and doing all this by myself. If Im not being done for something, Im not going anywhere. A lot of hands go into it. We have help. Its important for people to know that.

She added, I have the utmost respect for mothers and single mothers who go to work and come home and make dinner. I do all these things because I have help. Luna goes down at 6:30 and has a nurse watch her, and I can cook dinner.

Lucy Nicholson / Reuters

Teigens honest comments are reminiscent of a Today show interview she did back in November. Discussing the pressure on new moms to lose weight, she explained that women should not hold themselves to the standards set by celebrities because famous people have the privilege of big (and often expensive) support systems.

Anyone in the public eye, we have all the help we could ever need to be able to shed everything, she said. So I think people get this jaded sensation that everybodys losing [pregnancy weight] so quickly, but we just happen to be the ones who are out there.

Teigen added, We have nutritionists, we have dietitians, we have trainers, we have our own schedules, we have nannies. We have people who make it possible for us to get back into shape. But nobody should feel like thats normal, or like thats realistic.

Other celebrity parents, like Victoria Beckhamand Solange Knowles, have also been open about their support systems.

Teigen savors every moment with her daughter. She told Yahoo that her perfect day includeswaking up with Luna, singing silly songs to her about poop. She also loves to watch her daughter sleep.

The model and her husband want to grow their family over time. Teigen has famously spoken about her experience with IVF and the fact that she and Legend have one frozen embryo left from the process.

Hopefully it works. Well see, she said. Either way, were going to try for another kid.

Eating Disorders Awareness Week: The Children’s Eating Disorder More Common Than Anorexia And Bulimia – Brunel University News (press release)

Psychologist Dr Terry Dovey flags up an eating disorder more common than anorexia and bulimia. Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder is an eating disorder and mental health problem, Terry explainsinhisblog for The Huffington Post

Eating Disorders Awareness Week is there to do what it says on the tin. And awareness about eating disorders has grown throughout my career. Indeed eating disorders have become synonymous with anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa - two devastating mental health problems that call for as much attention as they can get. But both are actually fairly rare. And while I struggle to find people who havent heard about anorexia and bulimia, I rarely meet anyone aware of other eating disorders.

Picture a child sitting at a table, cutlery in hand and food in front of them. Yet no matter what the parent says or does, gentle bribery, cajoling, threats of an early bed, the child simply wont eat. Nearly all parents go through the annoying phase when their child refuses to eat. It usually starts at two. Professionals call it the food neophobic stage of child development. This is normal. Nothing to worry about.

Avoidant/Restrictive food intake disorder or ARFID is actually more common than anorexia and bulimia. It typically starts before the age of five and lasts until adulthood. Youve probably at least heard about both children and adults with ARFID, but perhaps known it by another name. The picky eater. But its a misleading term. What most people call a picky eater is actually a bunch of three separate problems. Two of these are normal. One is a psychological disorder. The term picky eater trivialises the everyday struggle faced by people with ARFID and those around them.

ARFID generally starts between two and five, the same age children hit the food neophobic stage. The difference is the child with ARFID does not grow out of it. Children at this stage generally refuse new foods in favour of things theyre familiar with. Although frustrating, the child eats and doesnt lose weight. But children with ARFID tend to avoid and restrict their food, leading to weight loss or nutrient deficiency. They restrict their diet to sometimes only two or three foods that they deem to be safe. Most often these are foods high in fat, sugar and/or salt. And it damages their health.

A child with ARFID often just looks like they are being naughty at mealtimes. They may refuse to follow the adults requests, run away from the kitchen or dining room and fidget around the table. Again, nothing unusual. But children with ARFID do this nearly, every time food is put on the table and generally lasts for years. This is when well-meaning people dish out advice. The been there, done that mantra is meant as support. As an eating behaviourist professional and a parent, I can safely say ARFID children are different.

The things that get most children through the food neophobic stage, simply dont work, or more accurately will not work in the same time frame, for children with ARFID. Parents of children with ARFID are desperate to stop the behaviour, desperate to get their child to eat and desperate to have a normal food neophobic child. If anything, they can offer other parents advice. Theyve almost certainly tried everything. Worst of all, parents of children with ARFID are often publically blamed and sometimes shamed for their childs apparent willfulness.

In more than 10 ten years working with children with ARFID, it is very rare that anything the parents did or do caused the problem. They are not at fault. ARFID is an eating disorder. The child is anxious about food, may have experienced a traumatic event with food or find different tastes, smells or textures of food offensive. The behaviour stems from their interaction with food and has little to do with what the parents have or have not done. ARFID stays with the child. It does not get better with time and harms childrens health.

Next time you see that child across the table playing up and refusing to eat, 99 times out of 100 it is just a phase. But alarm bells start to sound if their behaviour does not improve by 6 years of age and especially if the child starts to lose weight. It might be that 1 in 100 case of ARFID. This is when its crucial to get professional advice to improve the childs diet. When you see that child with ARFID, understand that it is not the parents fault and your advice has likely been tried, tested and failed. For parents of children with ARFID, that frustrating phase all parents went through is a daily reality, with no signs of improvement.

The road to recovery from ARFID is possible, but is likely to need specialist support. Several specialist centres across the world are available and can help. And I hope this spurs your interest just enough to find out more about other eating disorders beyond those you think you already know about. ARFID is just one. There are others. Disorders like pica and rumination also appear to have lower public awareness than anorexia and bulimia. Maybe its time tofind out more.

According to a new study, published in PLOS One, getting ready in the dark could be the reason youre struggling to lose weight.

Researchers from Northwestern University got 54 adults in Chicago to wear wrist trackers to record their exposure to light and their sleep habits for a week.

Alongside this, they all kept a food diary so the researchers could count up their calorie intake.

They also counted for activity level, age, caloric intake, season and sleep habits.

Results revealed that the earlier in the day the participants were exposed to light, the lower their body mass index (BMI) was.

One of these superfoods is hot peppers. This is because capsaicin, the compound that gives chili peppers their kick, heats up your body, which makes you melt additional calories.

Woman who struggled to lose weight actually had 140-pound tumor – Fox News

A 71-year-old woman who spent two decades testing diets and exercises in a bid to get fit has lost nearly 200 pounds after doctors discovered a massive tumor was the real cause of her excess weight. Mary Clancey, of Saint Clair, Pennsylvania, weighed more than 350 pounds when the 140-pound ovarian cyst was detected, Fox 43 reported.

Clancey had sought medical attention in November for blood clots in her leg, and was put through various other tests to check her overall health.

I was so shocked when they told me, Clancey told Fox 43. The first thing I thought was Sigourney Weaver with the Alien. I was so scared. I thought, What could this be then?

Clancey said her doctors believe the cyst may have been gradually growing for up to 16 years, and she underwent emergency surgery for its removal. Within a day, Clanceys weight dropped to under 150 pounds.

For four days after that surgery, I cant describe it. It felt like something was empty, Clancey told Fox 43. My body didnt feel right. I guess I was so used to carrying that weight that I felt totally different.

After being discharged from the hospital, Clancey said shes looking forward to tending to her garden. She also has regained 10 pounds and has high hopes for her new figure.

Hopefully, Ill get curvy, she told the news station. Ill be one hot babe eventually.

Implanted device helps obese patients lose weight – WNDU 16 – WNDU-TV

About 200,000 Americans undergo weight loss surgery every year, choosing methods like gastric bypass, banding, or surgical balloons to shrink the stomach and decrease food intake.

Now, doctors have another option for patients when diet and exercise is not enough

The most I ever saw on the scale was 409 pounds," Eric Wilcoxon recalls.

Standing six feet, four inches tall, the 44-year-old leaves a big impression. These days, Eric is more than 135 pounds lighter after a lifetime struggle with diet and exercise that impacted his life and his health.

I sat in my chair for probably the last two years before I had this done," Eric recalls.

When its your husband, you dont want anything to happen to him. Im getting emotional here. I dont want him to die," Christy Wilcoxon explains.

Doctor Vladimir Kushnir recommended Eric undergo an endoscopic procedure to implant the AspireAssist.

What the device is is a modified feeding tube with a larger external portion and a smaller internal portion," Kushnir explains.

Thirty minutes after a meal, Eric connects the tube to a water canister and pumps out about one-third of his stomach.

Similar to what happens with weight loss surgery, some of the food you eat doesnt go where it naturally would, which helps you lose weight because you dont absorb as many of the calories," Kushnir explains.

A lot of people do think its gross, but Im really not overly concerned about what other people think," Eric admits.

Eric watches what he eats in order for the Aspire to work; he drinks a lot of water and chews his food a lot.

People dont comprehend how much you have to chew in order to do this. This tube in my belly is no bigger than an ink pen sitting on your desk, Eric explains.

But Eric credits that tube plus a healthy diet with allowing him to do things he couldnt before, like coach his sons football team.

The FDA approved the AspireAssist last year for obese patients.

Patients must not have undergone any other surgical weight loss procedure to be considered for Aspire.

Unlike other weight loss procedures, the Aspire ssist device can be removed.

MEDICAL BREAKTHROUGHS RESEARCH SUMMARY

TOPIC: Aspire for Weight Loss REPORT: MB #4224

BACKGROUND: Obesity is a disease where a person has a body mass index of 30 or higher. A normal BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9, and overweight is anywhere from 24.6 and 29.9. An estimated 112,000 deaths are related to obesity, since this disease can lead to 30 chronic health conditions like type 2 diabetes, stroke, heart disease, asthma, sleep apnea, some types of cancer and others. According to the CDC, one in three American adults were obese in the year 2015. Today, almost 79 million Americans (69 percenr) are considered to be obese or overweight. Obesity can be treated with behavioral changes like dieting and exercising, but when these dont lead to any results, weight loss surgeries are an option. (Source: http://www.obesity.org/obesity/resources/facts-about-obesity/what-is-obesity)

WEIGHT LOSS SURGERIES: Weight loss surgery is a treatment option for people who are obese and are committed to making lifestyle changes in order to keep the weight off. In addition to helping patients lose weight, they also help with treating other conditions the patient may be suffering from like diabetes and heart disease. Some of the surgeries available are: * Gastric Bypass, where only a small part of the stomach is left. The small stomach cant hold a lot of food, so the person eats less. * Adjustable Gastric Band which consists of putting a small band of the top of the stomach; the band leads to how much food can go in the stomach. * Gastric Sleeve, the surgery removes almost the entire stomach. The surgery also curbs the hunger hormone which results in eating less. * Electric Implant that delivers electrical pulses to a nerve between the stomach and brain, allowing for the brain to know when the stomach is full. (Source: http://www.webmd.com/diet/obesity/surgery-for-you#1)

ASPIRE ASSIST: Aspire Assist is a new FDA approved treatment that can help obese people lose weight. This treatment works by helping reduce the amount of calories the body consumes by eliminating some of the food that was eaten. The Aspire Assist procedure consists of placing a thin tube in the inside of the stomach that connects directly to a discreet button on the outside of the abdomen. The placing of the device is a 15 minute procedure, where only local anesthesia is used, and patients can return to their normal activities 2 hours later. Once the device is in place, patients can aspirate up to 30 percent of what they ate, about 30 minutes after a meal. Patients also have to chew and eat very slowly in order to let the brain know that they are full. Unlike other weight loss surgeries, this procedure is reversible since the device can be taken out at any time. So far, over 60 percent of the patients who have used Aspire Assist have lost over 10 percent of their body weight. People who qualify for this procedure are those with a BMI between 35 and 45, but it is not recommended for those who have gone through weight loss surgeries, stomach surgeries or an eating disorder. (Source: http://www.aspirebariatrics.com/about-the-aspireassist/ & Dr. Vladimir Kushnir)

The flexitarian diet is so popular this year: see why all the celebrities love it – Stck Nws US

Thank God flexitarianism is among the diets that work.

It is dedicated to those who are interested in going vegetarian, but are not yet determined to say goodbye! to meat forever.

Flexitarianism is ranked in the top 10 diets when it comes to efficiency.

In short, the flexitarian diet is a mix of two concepts: flexible and vegetarian.

Beyonce and Jay-Z fell in love with the flexitarian diet and said it out loud: this diet works!

Flexitarians weigh 15% less than those who prefer a carnivorous diet, have a lower rate of heart disease, diabetes and cancer and live, on average, about 3,6 years longer than those who eat meat products.

It encourages you to add more veggies to your daily menu. Even if those who embrace this trend are advised to replace the meat with protein-rich foods such as tofu, beans, nuts, seeds and eggs, meat is not completely prohibited.

You can add meat to your menu, from time to time, and no one will ever mind.

There is, therefore, a fixed schedule, the 3-4-5 type, which requires you to eat a breakfast of 300 calories, a 400 calories lunch and a 500 calories dinner, choosing from the accepted food groups.

Youre also allowed two snacks during the day, 150 calories each, making sure the total number of calories consumed during the day does not exceed 1,500, for women, and 1800-2000, in what concerns men.
