With three days to go to the 2017 Oscars, you'd think the nominees would be spending their time getting in shape and fitting in any last minute campaigning.
But that couldn't be farther from the reality of the week leading up to the Academy Awards. Sure, we imagine there is definitely some beauty prep involved, but mostly the nominees are proceeding with life as usualwith some exceptions, of course.
Naomie Harris, nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category for Moonlight, spent the Thursday before her big night receiving an OBE Award from Queen Elizabeth II. As we said, there are exceptions to that whole "normal routine" thing.
"As a black actress from the background I came from, I think it's incredibly important," Harris told the BBC.

Natalie Portman, however, is heavily pregnant but still keeping up with her exercise regimen. The Jackie star is up for Best Actress and is spending the week running errands and hikingeven more than we could expect from someone who looks like she's about to give birth fairly soon!

But La La Land star Emma Stone isn't letting the dust settle ahead of Sunday's award show. The actress has been hitting up several red carpets and parties, including a private event at Chateau Marmont hosted by Vanity Fair and Barney's New York that celebrated her Oscar-nominated movie.
Mahershala Ali is taking the time to enjoy the calm before the storm at home, because not only is he up for Best Supporting Actor for Moonlight, his wife, Amatus Sami-Karim, is also pregnant and due fairly soon.
"It is its own award season," laughed Ali with the Los Angeles Times, "equally demanding of your presence."
Ali also joked to E! News' Marc Malkin that if he wins he would consider naming his unborn child after Oscar. "Maybe a middle name," Ali joked at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. "You know, if it is a girl, it could be Oscaria."
Denzel Washington, nominated for Fences and quickly becoming a favorite in these last few weeks, got in some laughs while appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! His co-star (also nominated) Viola Davis appeared on the late-night show just a few days later.

But of all the pre-Oscars activities, we think Nicole Kidman did it best. Instead of stressing out about what Lion may or may not win, the Aussie actress visited the Happiest Place on Earth...Disney World. And boy does she look happy.
Come Sunday, everyone will be reunited on the red carpet before Jimmy Kimmel takes the stage to kick off Hollywood's biggest night of the year.

Octane Fitness sales drive Nautilus earnings – The Columbian

VANCOUVER Nautilus Inc., the Vancouver-based maker of fitness equipment, announced this week it had muscled its way to a 20 percent jump in net sales, making $406 million in 2016.
The net sales were buoyed by Octane Fitness products, a company Nautilus acquired in early 2016 for $115 million.
Nautilus CEO Bruce Cazenave said the company set out to innovate its products and distribution models, and expand internationally in 2016.
The successful integration of Octane was an important contributor to advancing on all these strategic fronts, helping lay the groundwork for another year of positive growth in 2017 and beyond, he said.
Net sales rose in the companys fiscal fourth quarter again driven by Octane, the company said. Net sales climbed to $125.8 million, a 15.2 percent increase, though its non-Octane sales declined by single digits.
Shares in the company, traded as NLS on the New York Stock Exchange, fell from $17.75 per share to $14.80 a 15 percent drop after the earnings report came out Tuesday. Nautilus posted net incomes of $11.6 million in its fourth quarter and $34.1 million for the year.

In a society where were oftentaught to believe that personal value is directly related to the number on the scale, there can be a lot of pressure to look a certain way. Magazines, television and social media can make you feel like you need to try harder, forcing you to become dependent on restrictive diets, extensive exercise and regular weigh-ins. While its believed this obsessive nature keeps you accountable and mindful of your healthy initiatives, the scale could actually be deterring you from leading a healthy life.

Thats why one mom and fitness blogger is taking a stand against the scale, proving to her many followers that the number on the scale really doesnt mean that much. Adrienne Osuna shared side-by-side images of herself on Instagram with just a two-pound difference, but her fitness transformation is undeniable.The mom of four shared the image to show that while the scale had barely budged, her body composition was much different.
This was all hard work in the gym, lifting heavy weights and intermittent fasting. And for anyone just seeing this for the first time YESSS really 2 lbs, the scale doesnt measure fat vs muscle! she wrote in the caption.
After yo-yo dietingfor years, Osuna committed to power lifting and chronicled her journey from the beginning onMama of Four Getting Fit. By heavy lifting four times a week, her body changed dramatically, building muscle and definition.
While its a well-known fact that muscle weighs more than fat, it can be disappointing to step on the scale and see little-to-no change. Osunas Instagram post is a great reminder to herself and her followers, worldwide, that the number means nothing when youre putting the work in.

I lost fat and gained muscle which made my weight pretty much stay the same but as you can see Ive lost a lot of inches and dress sizes, she wrote.
Osuna encourages her followers to eat healthy, lift heavy and practice patience on their fitness journey.
There is never a reason to be embarrassed by the number youre lifting. In the gym or on social media. Everyone is at a different point in their journeyDont compare yourself to others. You lift whatever weight youre at right now and be proud of it, she wrote.
With Instagram models, social media personalities and fashion week coverage only growing with each season, Osunas fitness posts are a welcome reminder that youre allowed to be yourself at whatever size.

Its been known for decades that regular, moderate exercise has many positive benefits for the average adult.
Some of these benefits include controlling weight, improving mood, boosting energy, promoting better sleep and improving ones social life through group type exercise classes and programs.
Perhaps the most important benefit of regular exercise is that of combating health conditions and diseases.
An active lifestyle boosts high-density lipoprotein (HLD) or good cholesterol and decreases unhealthy triglycerides. This will help your blood flow smoothly, decreasing your risk of cardiovascular disease.
Regular exercise also helps prevent or manage a number of health issues and concerns including stroke, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, depression, a number of types of cancer, arthritis and falls.
Only recently has there been research regarding the benefits of exercise for those suffering from chronic diseases. We know that exercise helps prevent diseases such as diabetes, cancer, heart disease and arthritis but what happens to those who are suffering from one of more of these diseases?
Interval training can be tolerated in people with heart disease and can produce significant benefits. Regular exercise can help insulin more effectively lower blood sugar levels as well as help in weight control and boost energy for those with diabetes.
Exercise can reduce pain and help maintain muscle strength in the muscles around the spine of those suffering with arthritis.
For those who have gone through cancer treatment, exercise can improve endurance, promote flexibility and increase muscular strength which will ultimately improve ones quality of life and everyday functionality.
As with beginning any exercise program, its important to consult your physician, but even more so when suffering from a chronic disease. Your doctor can help you determine what physical limitations you may have, how long your exercise sessions should last and what level of intensity would be appropriate for you.
An individualized exercise routine is essential in order not to induce injury.The best way to ensure sticking to your exercise routine is to exercise with a partner or with a group of those in your same condition.
This creates accountability with each other as well as providing an outlet to share experiences with others who have gone through similar experiences.
The YMCA of El Paso has programs specific to those suffering from chronic diseases including the Livestrongat the YMCA physical activity program for cancer survivors, the YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program for those who have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes and EnhanceFitness which is designed for those with arthritis.
The YMCA provides certified instructors who are trained specifically to work with individuals with chronic diseases. All three of these programs are evidence based and have yielded tremendous results for those who have been consistent in attending and participating in these classes.

One Surrey GP said: Patients are often resentful when GPs say weight is the cause of their problems.
Some patients have declined to see some of our GPs whom they feel pressurise them about weight, but patients are often more upset at being fat than at the discussion.
But one GP from Berkshire said it was ridiculous for doctors to worry about causing offence.
We have to all stop being so politically correct and if we offend patients, bad luck, said Dr Robert Koefman, from Binfield Surgery, in Bracknell. If weight is the problem tell them so.
East London-based GP Dr Tope Ajayi said that he had seen many patients with chronic knee pain, exacerbated by their heavy weight, yet had hesitated to raise the matter.
He said he had weighed up whether or not it's worth bringing the fact the patient's weight may be contributing to their pain for fear of it negatively affecting my relationship with the patient.

Hoping to shimmy into those skinny jeans by adding an extra spin class to your workout routine or spending more time on the treadmill?
Sorry, say experts, youre out of luck. Exercise, while enormously beneficial for maintaining a healthy weight, doesnt tend to be effective for shedding pounds. The best way to trim the flab is to minimize the food on your plate.
You cannot outrun a bad diet, as an editorial in the British Journal of Sports Medicine put it.
Yes, exercise would work if you did enough of it its just so much easier to eat less, says James Hill , professor of pediatrics and medicine at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora. It takes mere seconds to scarf a 200-calorie candy bar, but 40 minutes of walking to burn that off. And with weight loss, youre not just trying to break even youre aiming for a calorie deficit.
Some people about 15% of us may even find that exercise makes them much hungrier, countering weight loss goals, says Dr. Tim Church , a professor of preventive medicine at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, La.
But exercise does playa key role: It helps keep weight off once youve lost it. Since 1994, Hill has tracked more than 10,000 people in the National Weight Control Registry who shed an average of 66 pounds each and kept it off for more than five years. Only 9%of them maintain their weight without significant exercise so its possible, but its very rare, Hill says.
For one thing, its hard to cut food calories over the long term. Exercise, on the other hand, burns added calories. It also improves metabolism, including how the body manages blood sugar and appetite. Youre giving yourself a safety margin for those days when you eat a bit too much.
But dontoverestimate that margin, Church warns. Taking the stairs does not earn you a cheeseburger.
In addition to keeping you trim, exercise is good for the heart, the liver and other essential organs, studies show. It even helps the brain by alleviating depression and anxiety, and by warding off cognitive decline later in life.
You name it, exercise helps it, Church says.
Hill says those whove lost a lot of weight and dont want to regain it should exercise for70 minutes a day. (People who were never obese can get away with less yes, life is unfair.) That could include planned workouts like going to the gym, but also casual activities like walking around a mall or playing Pokemon Go.
Figure out what works for you, Church says.
