OverviewWhat is unexplained weight loss?

Unexplained weight loss is a noticeable drop in body weight that occurs even if the person is not trying to lose weight. The weight loss does not come about because of diet, exercise or lifestyle changes. Weight loss of 10 pounds or more, or five percent of body weight, over a period of 6 to 12 months is considered unexplained.

Unexplained weight loss can be a symptom of a serious condition or illness. For this reason, it is important to seek medical attention if you (or a family member) have weight loss that cannot be explained.

Unexplained weight loss can occur in anyone. However, it is most common (and most serious) in people who are over the age of 65. Even unexplained weight loss of less than 5 percent of body weight or 10 pounds may be the sign of a serious condition in older people.

Unexplained weight loss can be caused by conditions that range from mild to very serious. The causes can be physical or psychological, and include:

You should consult your physician if you have lost more than 5 percent of body weight or 10 pounds without trying in a period of 6 to 12 months. This is especially important if you have other symptoms, too.

To diagnose your weight loss, your doctor will give you a physical examination and ask you such questions as:

How your GP can help you lose weight – NHS

If you've tried and failed to lose weight, a visit to your GP surgerycouldhelp.

Your GP or practice nurse can:

Your GP may take your blood pressure and carry out other tests, such as a blood test, to check for any health conditions that may be related to your weight.

If you're overweight, changes to your diet and physical activity levels are the first step to helping you lose weight.

Your GP or practice nurse can help you assess your current diet and levels of physical activity, and set personalgoals for change.

You may be asked tokeep a food diary a written record of everything you eat for 1 week.

This can help you and your GP identify habits, such as adding sugar to your tea, that you can change.

Your physical activity levels can be measured with an activity diary.

Your GP may also suggest that you wear a pedometer for a week. A pedometer measures the number of steps you take and gives an indication of your daily activity levels.

Once your GP or practice nurse has a clearer picture of your diet and level of physical activity, they can help you identify simple lifestyle changes.

Together, youwill work out a game plan to lose weight healthily and for the long term. It'll be a plan tailored toyour lifestyle and your preferences.

Your GP surgery should offer you regular follow-up appointments, usually every 2 weeks to a month, to monitor your progress.

Your GP surgerymay refer you to other services, such as local weight loss groups. These could be provided by the NHS, or may be commercial services that you pay for.

If it's appropriate, you may be referredfor exercise classesunder the supervision of a qualified trainer.

Depending on where you live, the exercise programme may be free or offered at a reduced cost.

If you've made changes to your diet and levels of physical activity but you're not losing a significant amount of weight, your GP may recommend medicines that can help.

Medicines are only used if your BMI is at least 30, or 28 if you have other risk factors such ashigh blood pressure or type 2 diabetes.

One method that can help a person lose weight is to limit the number of calories taken in through their diet. The other way is to burn extra calories with exercise.

Combining exercise with a healthy diet is a more effective way to lose weight than depending on calorie restriction alone. Exercise can prevent or even reverse the effects of certain diseases. Exercise lowers blood pressure and cholesterol, which may prevent a heart attack.

In addition, if you exercise, you lower your risk of developing certain types of cancers such as colon and breast cancer. Exercise is also known to help contribute to a sense of confidence and well-being, thus possibly lowering rates of anxiety and depression.

Exercise is helpful for weight loss and maintaining weight loss. Exercise can increase metabolism, or how many calories you burn in a day. It can also help you maintain and increase lean body mass, which also helps increase number of calories you burn each day.

To reap the health benefits of exercise, it is recommended that you to perform some form of aerobic exercise at least three times a week for a minimum of 20 minutes per session. However, more than 20 minutes is better if you want to actually lose weight. Sermorelin | Reviews, Dosage & Clinical Trials – Peptides

Effective treatment of adult-onset growth hormone insufficiency: Sermorelin is an effective and attractive treatment of adult-onset GH insufficiency. Unlike rhGH, sermorelin does not stimulate IGF-1 production in the liver and instead stimulates the pituitary gland to produce and secrete endogenous hGH, giving it a number of clinical advantages over exogenous hGH.

Notably, according to a 2006 article by Richard Walker, overdoses of endogenous hGH are difficult if not impossible to achieve as the effects of sermorelin are regulated by negative feedback involving the inhibitory neurohormone, somatostatin.

Sermorelin is not associated with the pro-cancer and pro-diabetes side effects linked to long-term hGH therapy, and is thus heavily researched to treat adult-onset GH insufficiency along with being used in longevity medicine for preserving youthful anatomy and physiology [5].

Positive effects on body composition: Sermorelin has been identified as one of several growth hormone secretagogues (GHS) that can help manage body composition in hypogonadal males. In a 2020 paper, Deepankar et al. noted that sermorelin can significantly improve body composition (in hypogonadal males) while ameliorating specific hypogonadal symptoms such as fat gain and muscular atrophy [6].

While the authors suggest that sermorelin could be used to achieve lean mass gain in both hypogonadal males and men with subclinical hypogonadism, to date, there is no published research that has investigated sermorelins effect on body composition in healthy subjects, highlighting an area for further research.

Potential anti-aging benefits: A 1992 study identified sermorelins potential anti-aging benefits after nine young male test subjects (22 to 33 years old) and ten elderly male test subjects (60 to 78 years old) were administered the peptide. The study found that short-term subcutaneous sermorelin injections enabled healthy male test subjects to reverse age-related decreases in GH and levels of IGF-I [7].

A 1997 single-blind randomized placebo-controlled trial found that elderly male and female test subjects who received nightly subcutaneous injections of sermorelin for 16 weeks experienced a significant increase in skin thickness. The peptide was found to produce significant increases in lean body mass in male test subjects and notable increases in libido and wellbeing. Male test subjects gained an average of 1.26 kg of lean body mass by the end of the trial [8]

Sermorelin and heart health: Sermorelin has been investigated alongside other GHRH agonists as a potential treatment for myocardial infarction scarring in swine [9]. The 2015 study found that sermorelin offered a number of benefits in post-heart attack animal models, which included:

Juicing is an easy way to consume lots of nutrients without having to eat whole fruits and vegetables. Many people claim its a helpful weight loss tool.

The juicing diet trend has increased in popularity over the years, but its effectiveness is controversial.

This article will explore whether juicing can really help you lose weight.

Juicing is the process of extracting the liquid from fruits and vegetables while removing the solids. This can be done by hand or with a motor-driven juicer.

The juice from fruits and vegetables doesnt contain any skin, seeds, or pulp. It does contain some nutrients and antioxidants, but without the beneficial fiber of whole fruits and vegetables (1, 2, 3).

Some people use juicing as a detox method. However, there are no scientific studies showing that replacing solid food with juice will detoxify the body.

People also use juices as nutrition supplements and to lose weight. However, while juices can be rich in some nutrients, drinking juice exclusively is not a healthy and sustainable way to lose weight.

Juicing is generally safe if you do it for only a few days at a time. Additionally, fresh fruit and vegetable juices are a fine addition to a healthy diet as long as you truly enjoy them and you dont drink excessive amounts of juices that have added sugar.

However, juice fasts do carry some risks when they are prolonged.

Whole fruits and vegetables are excellent sources of fiber, but most of the fiber is removed in the juicing process.

Fiber is an essential part of a healthy diet. Eating enough of it is important for optimal digestion because it keeps the beneficial bacteria in your gut healthy and may reduce constipation for some people (15).

Juice fasts are also low in omega-3 fatty acids, which are healthy fats that fight inflammation and contribute to brain and heart health (16).

In addition to being low in specific nutrients, these diets may actually interfere with the absorption of the nutrients.

One reason for this is that juice diets tend to be low in fat, which is required for the absorption of the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K (19).

When your immune system is compromised, you may catch illnesses such as colds and the flu more easily. It may also take longer for your body to heal wounds.

Fatigue and weakness are common side effects of following a juice fast.

These symptoms are likely to occur because of the low number of calories these diets contain. If youre depriving your body of calories, youre essentially depriving it of energy, which can lead to these undesirable effects.

The minimal amount of protein in most juice fasts may lead to a reduction in lean muscle mass, which can have a negative effect on health (11).

As your lean muscle mass decreases, your metabolism decreases as well, meaning you will burn fewer calories and may have a more difficult time maintaining weight loss (11).

Juicing is generally safe, but following a juice-only diet for a long time may have a negative effect on your health and well-being.

There is no formal research to support the idea that juicing helps with weight loss.

Based on anecdotal evidence, its clear that juice diets may lead to rapid weight loss in the short term, especially when they are very low in calories.

However, you could experience some negative health effects from such severe calorie restriction, especially if you follow the diet for more than a few days at a time.

Additionally, its difficult to sustain such a restrictive diet. Most people do not stick with very low calorie diets for long and end up gaining back the weight theyve lost (5).
