Oklahoma Joins Texas With a Devastating Near-Total Abortion Ban – POPSUGAR

Another day, another politician making choices about a woman's body. Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt just signed a bill into law on Tuesday that makes it performing an abortion punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $100,000 fine, per AP News. The bill only makes an exception for an abortion performed to save a mother's life.

"We want to outlaw abortion in the state of Oklahoma," Stitt said during the signing ceremony for the bill, according to AP. "I promised Oklahomans that I would sign every pro-life bill that hits my desk, and that's what we're doing here today."

Oklahoma is one of many Republican-led states seeking to reverse abortion rights in the US. At the end of March, Arizona banned abortions after 15 weeks, with no exceptions for rape or incest. A new Texas law encourages private citizens to turn in people who have helped others access an abortion after six weeks, offering a $10,000 reward for each successful lawsuit brought forward. In fact, Texas prosecutors recently charged a woman with murder after an alleged "self-induced abortion," although they eventually had to drop the charges.

Similar to Texas, the new Oklahoma law does not call for criminal charges to be brought against someone who has had an abortion. But by banning professionals from performing the procedure, it essentially criminalizes the act, leaving women with few to no options. While some people may still be able to go to neighboring states to access much-needed reproductive care, that's not an option for many others, who may not be able to take time off work, find childcare, or afford to travel the often long distances required to find an available clinic. After Texas's ban was passed, abortion clinics in nearby states including, at the time, Oklahoma found themselves overwhelmed by the influx in patients, according to the Guttmacher Institute.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki called the bill the "unconstitutional attack on women's rights" in a statement released on Tuesday. "Protecting the right recognized in Roe v. Wade continues to be a priority for the Biden-Harris Administration, and we call on Congress to pass the Women's Health Protection Act, which would shut down these attacks and codify this long-recognized, constitutional right," Psaki said.

Oklahoma's near-total abortion ban will take effect 90 days after the legislative session ends, which should be around August and shortly after the long-awaited U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, per MSNBC. In this case, the Supreme Court is examining the constitutionality of the Mississippi law bann ing almost all abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. The Court's decision could reverse Roe v. Wade in its entirety, overturning a landmark ruling that has protected women's right to choose for nearly 50 years. Every organization requires a revamp after a specific period. By keeping various aspects in mind, the management decided to appoint a new CEO. Grant Shriver replaced his predecessor, CEO John Burns on Tuesday. According to an exclusive interview organized by a media outlet, Shriver, was introduced to Bzrady through a mutual acquaintance who thought theyd share similar missions.

There was a connection, Shriver says, between the way I think about business and what Tom was looking to do at TB12 the vision that he had to take this brand to more of a national presence. Obese people to lose free fitness coaches and weight loss apps as Government cuts funding – The Telegraph

Obese people will lose access to fitness coaches and weight loss apps, it was warned on Thursday, as it emerged 100 million of funding is being diverted to pay for the Living with Covid" plan.

The Living with Covid strategy will be funded from existing Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) budgets, it is understood, meaning its other funding streams have been revised and reallocated.

Funding for healthy weight activities for the next financial year has been reduced as a result.

Some 400 million in Covid outbreak support funding for local councils has also been cut, The Telegraph understands.

The 100 million package of specialised support to help people achieve and maintain a healthier weight was announced by DHSC last year.

Some 70 million was invested through the NHS and councils to provide adults with access to weight loss groups or fitness coaches, while 30 million was used to fund free access weight loss apps and marketing campaigns.

Public health groups, the Local Government Association (LGA) and charities have warned the funding cut, first reported by the Local Government Chronicle, will be detrimental to cutting obesity levels in the UK.

Almost a third (28 per cent) of the adult population in England is obese, and more than a third (36 per cent) are overweight, estimates suggest.

In 2020, the Government announced a landmark obesity strategy to encourage healthier living and protect people against Covid. Studies have found being overweight is associated with an increased risk of hospitalisation from the virus.

James Jamieson, chair of the LGA, said: This decision will result in the closure of some existing weight management programmes, restricting the ability for councils to improve health outcomes in their local areas and increasing health and care pressure further down the line.

Huw Edwards, CEO of ukactive, said: The best way to help the NHS is to stop people needing it so much.

Removing this funding undermines the Governments commitment to prevention and will increase health inequalities and obesity levels across the UK.

Dr Jyotsna Vohra, Director for Policy and Public Affairs at the Royal Society for Public Health, said the move goes against any promises to tackle the UKs high obesity rates.

With obesity rates reaching record levels during the pandemic, the news that the government is cutting 100m of funding for weight management services is of great concern, to say the least, and brings into question the governments commitment to tackling obesity in the UK - the fattest country in Western Europe, Dr Vohra added.

Antonio Conte is working his magic at Spurs and it all stems from fitness – The Guardian

Manchester United were apparently put off by Antonio Contes style and short spells at his previous clubs, but the Italians relentless nature is bringing the best out of Spurs as a team and individuals to put them in the driving seat for Champions League qualification.

Since he arrived at Tottenham things have not always gone smoothly, but the hard work on the training ground is paying off. They have won six of their past seven league games during a crucial spell. Spurs have scored more Premier League goals than any other team since the turn of the year and become less reliant on Harry Kane.

Before Contes appointment, Spurs were bottom of the table when it came to ground covered. The key to all Contes work is making the squad fitter because without that his methods do not work. By all accounts he is working the players harder in training than his predecessor, Nuno Esprito Santo, to fit them into his preferred 3-4-3. When I was at Chelsea I would see Conte at the training ground and he was relentless with players as he tried to make the shape right and find areas for individuals to improve.

Thank you for your feedback.

Kane is thriving under Conte; in the league he has scored 12 goals this season and created another eight, with only one goal and one assist coming under Nuno. Like his teammates, Kane appears fitter, which has reinvigorated him after a long season when you factor in the Euros. His role has not necessarily changed because he has always liked to drop deep to make the most of his passing range, but now his teammates can keep going beyond him. It is no longer just Son Heung-min doing that, meaning Kane has greater options when he finds pockets of space. That takes the pressure off him, something reflected in his performances.

Spurs most consistent forwards have been aided by the winter signing of Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus. He is the player they have been crying out for because Steven Bergwijn, Lucas Moura and Gareth Bale have tried to fill the role but failed to produce on a regular basis. The Sweden international has fitted in well and formed an understanding with Son and Kane to reach three goals and six assists in 11 league games.

Whereas Tottenhams rivals carried out limited January transfer business, Conte let four leave and although the club signed only Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur it has paid off. Kulusevski is young and they have options to buy for as little as 30m (24.75m. It is part of the business model to buy a top player for a good price, like they did with Son, and gives them time to develop him into the player they want with two top individuals in Kane and Son alongside him.

There are few better at bringing about immediate improvements out of players than Conte. Look at Romelu Lukaku: he took him to Internazionale after it was obvious the Belgian was not wanted at Manchester United and made him into a striker who scored 64 goals in two seasons and was sold for 97.5m. At Spurs, he has turned Matt Doherty from a player who could not get into matchday squads under Jos Mourinho into a major part of his system until injury at Aston Villa last Saturday ended Dohertys season. In 2022, Doherty has two league goals and four assists and has looked to be back to the player he was at Wolves.

Going out of the Europa Conference League and FA Cup will have helped Conte because he needed time on the training ground to make the squad used to his methods. Resting players for matches on a Thursday is useful but it does mean their training week will be disrupted because a different starting XI is put into shape. Fewer games to concentrate on is better because having a full week to overload the players to get them fit and sharp allows them to peak for one match. It enables them to build preparation into that game and means there can be no excuses, and you can see that coming through.

At one point it did not look as if Conte would revitalise Spurs and he implied he was willing to leave after their defeat at Burnley in late February. Conte said maybe I am not so good, although he has plenty of evidence to the contrary. I do not know why he said it maybe he wanted to put pressure on the clubs hierarchy but it seems to have worked given that the football and results have been better since. It shows he knows how to push buttons on and off the pitch.

Spurs have made themselves favourites for fourth place. Manchester United are in terrible form, Arsenal have lost their past two games, to Crystal Palace and Brighton, and West Hams results have dipped while juggling the Premier League and Europa League. Spurs have a north London derby to come a home game on 12 May and I think they will secure Champions League qualification.

Of the four managers vying for fourth, Conte is the one I would want in my dressing room, without a doubt. Spurs have form in their favour and the stamina to complete the job, all thanks to Conte proving once again that his methods work.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, IL A mental fitness hearing is scheduledTuesdayfor a 31-year-old Mt. Vernon man charged in Jefferson County Court in nearly a half-dozen criminal cases dating back to 2020. The court in December found a bona fide doubt as to the mental fitness for Zackery Stombaugh to stand trial in the cases charging him with criminal misdemeanor trespassing in two separate 2021 cases, and also in separate 2021 cases for Class 3 possession of meth, and Class 1 felony residential burglary, as well as a 2020 case for Class 3 felony burglary.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriffs Department, deputies responded in November to the 1200 block of N. 13th Street in Mt. Vernon on a report of a burglary in progress inside a residence. The subject reportedly fled the scene. After receiving a tip from a helpful citizen, officers from the Mt. Vernon Police Department who were assisting the investigation, located the suspect identified as Zackery L. Stumbaugh.

Upon completing the initial investigation at the scene, sheriffs deputies took Stumbaugh into custody and transported him to the Jefferson County Jail for alleged residential burglary.

ARod & His Fitness Model Girlfriend Kathryne Padgett Take It To The Next Level – The Play-In Round! – OutKick

ARod and new girlfriend fitness bikini model Kathryne Padgett were in their normal seats Tuesday at the Target Center, but this wasnt just any night out for the new couple. It was the first official play-in game for ARod as a member of the Timberwolves ownership group and the former MLB slugger is now officially headed into the NBA playoffs after the T-Wolves beat the Clippers 109-104 to nab the 7th seed.

The couple that first burst onto the scene during the 49ers-Packers playoff game have been going so strong lately that ARod is even taking credit for photographing his girlfriend flexing the glutes at home plate inside the Oakland Coliseum.

Yes, ARod responded when asked if the glutes shot was his photography work.

Now its time to get down to business in the NBA playoffs. Next up for ARod & Kat Padgett is a seven-game series against Ja Morant and the No. 2 seed Memphis Grizzlies. The first two games of the series will force ARod to fire up the private jet for Saturdays series opener set for 3:30 on ESPN.

The happy couple will be back in their Minneapolis courtside seats a week from Thursday when Game 3 takes place on TNT.

Manchester City Receive Key Fitness Boost Ahead of Atletico Madrid and Liverpool Ties – Sports Illustrated

Manchester City have had the good fortune to stay relatively healthy in terms of first-team fitness since the start of the season.

While many members of the starting XI earlier in the campaign were slow to return from the off-season - owing largely to the demands on individuals following their respective recoveries from COVID-19 - there have been only a few major injuries at the Etihad Stadium this term.

IMAGO / Sportimage

Cole Palmer and Ruben Dias both picked up injuries in the early months of 2022, with Palmer in particular suffering a foot injury that had, until recently, kept him out of action since the second week of January, when the Wythenshawe-born attacker starred in a 4-1 FA Cup win against Swindon Town.

IMAGO / PRiME Media Images

However, with crucial meetings with Atletico Madrid and Liverpool on the horizon, the squad is returning to near full fitness after Palmer returned to full first-team training on Monday afternoon, as confirmed by the club.

The 19-year-old burst onto the scene early doors through the season, putting his talent on full display by netting in the FA Cup, Champions League and Carabao Cup to make himself a potent outlet for Pep Guardiola in attack.

IMAGO / News Images

Moreover, Palmer registered five goals and three assists in just six appearances in the Premier League 2 for City's Elite Development Squad (EDS) prior to his struggles with injuries since the turn of the year.

The City academy graduate is said to be one for the future at the Etihad Stadium, with the club opting against sanctioning a loan move for the teenager in January despite wide interest in Palmer from a host of English sides.

It was reported that the Blues were keen to have Palmer stick around and progress his development in the first-team picture by taking inspiration from the route given to Phil Foden, who is one of the first names on the teamsheet following his rise through the youth ranks at City.

Palmer's return could be crucial as his side hit the business end of the season and with games coming thick and fast, Guardiola could be tasked with using the full pool of talent at his disposal - including rising academy stars such as Palmer.

As an additional bonus, Ruben Dias has also returned to training ahead of City's trip to face Atletico Madrid in the second-leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie at the Wanda Metropolitano on Wednesday.

I eat a low-carb diet and do HIIT every day to lose body fat and gain muscle. A dietitian said to eat more protein and carbs and incorporate rest days…

A 34-year-old woman submitted an average day of eating to be reviewed for Insider's Nutrition Clinic.

She told Insider she wants to lose fat and gain muscle, and she works out daily.

A dietitian said she should eat more protein and fiber, and do less HIIT.

If you'd like to have your diet reviewed by an expert, fill out this form.

The advice in this article isn't a substitute for a professional medical diagnosis or treatment.

Puteri, 34, submitted her eating routine for Insider's Nutrition Clinic, where qualified dietitians offer advice on readers' eating habits.

She told Insider her goals are to reduce her body fat percentage and gain muscle.

Puteri, who asked that we use only her first name, said she works out every day, usually doing HIIT or tabata and a five-kilometer run or rope skipping for 30 minutes, early morning or late evening. She works a 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. desk job and takes a day off only when she doesn't have time to exercise.

Puteri said she lost weight during the pandemic at first she crash dieted and lost about 20 pounds in eight months, but now she tries to eat a low-carb, high-protein diet, she said.

Dietitian Nichola Ludlam-Raine said it's great to be active, but she recommends Puteri takes more rest days.

She suggests keeping two days a week for walks and replacing HIIT with strength training, using progressive overload: "Rest and recovery is essential for muscle growth," Ludlam-Raine said.

Since we know crash dieting isn't the best way forward, eating more protein and fiber can help you lose fat and build muscle, she said.

Puteri said she starts her day drinking warm water with apple cider vinegar and psyllium husk powder, followed by an iced Americano.

On the way to work, she said she eats Greek yogurt with fruit and homemade nutty granola.

Protein is key for building muscle. Ludlam-Raine recommends a minimum of 75 grams a day for Puteri and Greek yogurt is a fantastic source. A 150- to 200-gram serving should give you 15 to 20 grams of protein, she said, but you could also add 1/2 scoop of protein powder for an extra boost.

Story continues

"Having a variety of fruit and veg is key for good gut health, which supports our immune system," she said. "The homemade granola sounds great by including nuts you're helping to boost the protein and healthy fats, too."

For lunch, Puteri said she eats leftover chicken, such as curried chicken with eggplant or turmeric chicken with French beans, sometimes with scrambled eggs and tomatoes on the side. She has an apple with peanut butter as an afternoon snack.

Ludlam-Raine said this is a great high-protein lunch, but Puteri could add more variety to her diet by trying other lean protein sources such as turkey or fish, or plant-based sources like beans or lentils for more fiber.

"Adding a slice of whole-meal bread or some whole-grain rice or crackers would give you some slow-release energy and help with your body's absorption of protein," she said.

Puteri eats chicken and vegetables, but may benefit from eating more carbs.Getty

Puteri cooks dinner for her family, usually pasta or rice with chicken, fish, or beef and vegetables, but she only eats the protein and vegetables.

Ludlam-Raine said eating lots of veggies is great but including some carbs in her meals would actually help Puteri hit her fitness goals.

"It's possible to increase muscle mass and lose body fat by consuming carbohydrates alongside your meals and this can also be beneficial to replenish your glycogen stores that will be depleted after your workouts," she said, recommending higher-fiber carbs like brown rice, whole wheat pasta, or quinoa and mixed grains.

Puteri occasionally has a donut, slice of carrot cake, or flourless chocolate cake, she said.

Ludlam-Raine said it's good that she includes treats in her diet, but she could benefit from eating some higher-protein snacks such as yogurt, low-fat cheese and oatcakes, or hummus and chopped vegetables.

Puteri aims to drink two to three cups of water a day and sometimes has a post-workout protein shake, but said she usually forgets.

Ludlam-Raine said Puteri should drink more water, at least six to eight cups a day, and more when exercising regularly. Look at the color of your urine to check whether you're dehydrated: "If it's dark yellow, you need to drink more!" she said.

Plant-based diet for beginners: transition away from animal products – Livescience.com

A plant-based diet for beginners might be a good start if youve been tempted to eat less meat or want to get more fruit and vegetables into your diet. Being plant-based doesnt necessarily mean giving us meat or animal products completely, but it does mean concentrating more on plant-based foods, including whole grains, nuts, legumes and beans.

A plant-based diet for beginners is also beneficial if you want to lead a healthier lifestyle or lose weight. Studies have shown that those on a plant-based diet tend to have a lower BMI and are less at risk of heart disease or developing chronic health conditions.

Changing to a plant-based diet can be difficult to navigate, so well look at what foods you can eat, along with the best vegan protein powders to give you a helping hand. We also chat to nutritionist Rhiannon Lambert about how transitioning to a plant-based diet can be beneficial for the environment and our health.

A plant-based diet is one that concentrates on eating foods that are derived from plants, such as fruit, vegetables, wholegrains, nuts and seeds. Whether you opt to follow a plant-based diet for just a few months, or you want to cut out meat and eat more plant-based food to feel healthier, this way of eating is different to a vegan diet. Plant-based diets normally cut out processed foods and focus on plant-based whole foods, but you also have the option of eating some foods from animals. Vegans cut out anything that has come from an animal, including meat, poultry and dairy products, while not necessarily cutting out processed foods from their diets.

A plant-based diet focuses on foods primarily from plants, says Lambert. This includes not only fruits and vegetables, but also nuts, seeds, oils, wholegrains, legumes and beans. It doesnt mean that you are vegetarian or vegan and never eat meat or dairy. Rather, you are proportionately choosing more of your foods from plant sources.

Of course, one plant-based diet may differ to the other, depending on what your food preferences are. However, Lambert says to take it slowly if youre changing your diet to a plant-based one. Small and gradual change is often the best way to avoid any nutritional deficiencies or digestive discomfort from a potential increase of fiber, she says. Try swapping animal-derived produce for plant protein alternatives such as beans, pulses, and tofu, and gradually introduce different types of vegetables to each meal.

A plant-based diet can have many benefits for our overall health. According to US dietary guidelines, eating a diet derived from plants, and eating lean meats occasionally, can help you to lose or maintain weight. If losing weight is a concern, one study showed that those who didnt eat meat had a lower Body Mass Index (BMI) than those who consumed meat.

A well-balanced plant-based diet that is low in saturated fats can contribute towards managing a healthy weight, adds Lambert. This can reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and even some cancers.

Saturated fats are found not only in meats such as bacon and sausages, but dairy products such as cheese and butter. The last few years have seen many studies undertaken on how saturated fats affect our health, but results are mixed. Some say that overeating saturated fats can raise our cholesterol, which could lead to heart problems, but other studies state that when saturated fats are eaten in moderation, such as on a plant-based diet, it can cut your health risks down considerably.

There is also a lot of evidence that points towards reduced blood pressure when omitting animal products from our diets, adds Lambert. One 2018 study found that plant-based diets, which included some animal products, were the most effective at reducing blood pressure, while another similar study saw blood pressure reduce considerably in two weeks when participants followed a plant-based diet.

Of course, cutting animal products from our diet and changing to a plant-based diet can also be good for our surroundings. These diets are also beneficial for the planet, suggesting that a reduction in animal products will help reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, says Lambert.

In fact, a 2019 report by the United Nations suggested that our obsession with meat and dairy products was fuelling global warming. The research, prepared by 107 scientists for the UNs Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, said that if we used land more efficiently, rather for livestock, we could store more of the carbon emitted by humans.

Energy in summer diets from fats and oils – National Hog Farmer

Many local ice cream shops reopened, showing that spring is here, and summer is near, but the hot and humid climate leads to a challenge in maintaining the optimal energy and nutrient intake of pigs. Hence, heat stress causes a decrease in the market weight of pigs and the overall revenue. Usually, pork producers observe impaired reproductive performance in breeding herds mated in summer, the slow growth rate in grow-finish pigsand unfavorable carcass quality due to fatness1.

Elevating dietary energy intake is one nutritional strategy that is typically paired with environmental and stocking density management. Indeed, energy is the most critical component of a diet because it is required for all physiological activities, including growth in market pigs and milk production in lactating sows. When pigs experience heat stress, feed intake decreases to limit heat production of digestion, and metabolism of nutrients. This leads to a decreased energy intake, which then impairs the performance of pigs and sows.

Therefore, specialized "summer diets"are often formulated to increase energy density while lowering the heat increment. Because the caloric efficiency of lipids is greater than starch, fiberand protein, supplementing fats and oils in summer diets is an effective strategy. However, increasing dietary fats/oils this summer is controversial because the prices of lipid sources as of April are extremely higher than the prices on a five-year average, which were below $0.36 and $0.27 per poundof crude soybean oil and choice white grease. Given the importance of energy density in summer diets and the high cost of ingredients, an accurate evaluation of the energy value of lipids become critical.

Sources of lipids, such as degummed soybean oil are traded based on specifications such as unsaponifiable matter, MIU (moisture, volatile matter, insoluble impurities), flash pointand phosphorus. Except for free fatty acids and insoluble impurities, trade-based specifications provide little information about the energy value of the sources of lipids. Ideally, producers get what they pay for, but this may not be true for various sources of lipids because the energy value of a lipid source varies substantially (net energyof soybean oil = 2,071 to 3,692 kcal/lb)3. Hence, the cost per unit of energy could be largely different.

A more accurate approach to value sources of lipids is to establish standards that relate to the energy value and a few energy prediction equations are available for lipids fed to pigs (Table 1)3. While these equations represent an advancement in the prediction of the energy value of lipids, the accuracy of using these equations to predict energy values is a concern when comparing in-vivo determined energy values.

The predicted digestible energycontent of corn oil can be 1,144 kcal/kg more than the actual DE content determined in pigs4. Moreover, the predicted DE content of soybean oil is lower than the actual DE content of soybean oil up to 1,210 kcal/kg, depending on which prediction equation was used5. These suggest that research efforts are needed to increase the accuracy of prediction equations on the energy value of lipids.

Multiple factors, including the fatty acid composition, the digestibility, post-absorption fate of the lipids (i.e., generation of ATP, fat depositionor milk production), and age of pigs explain the difference in energy value among sources of lipids. The composition of lipid sources varies because the proportion of triglycerides, free fatty acidsand non-triglyceride sterols vary among sources of lipids. The energy value of triglycerides is greater than that of free fatty acids because free fatty acids tend to be less digestible. In addition, the digestibility of polyunsaturated fatty acids is greater than the digestibility of saturated fatty acids.

More importantly, it is often overlooked that the energy value of a lipid source also depends on the metabolic fate of the lipids. The efficiency of utilization of energy from lipids towards lipid deposition is greater than that for lean muscle accretion. Consequently, the efficiency of dietary energy from lipids in finishing pigs would be greater than that for nursery pigs. Few energy evaluation systems take into consideration these differences.

In conclusion, a multifactorial approach must be developed to identify a best-fit equation for predicting the energy value of fats and oils that takes into account the factors that affect the energy value of the ingredients and the productive efficiency of using the additional nutrients.

1. Equations derived from determining DE, ME and NE content and chemical composition of an animal-vegetable blend, canola oil, two source of choice white grease, coconut oil, two sources of corn oil, fish oil, flax oil, palm oil, poultry fat, two sources of soybean oil and tallow.2. Equation derived from determining DE content and chemical composition of butterfat, canola oil, coconut oil, fish oil, flaxseed oil, lard, olive oil, palm oil, soybean oil and tallow.3. Equation derived from determining DE and chemical composition of choice white grease, choice white grease acid oil, soybean oil, soy-cotton acid oil, animal-vegetable blend.
