Go out too fast and you'll hit the wall, go out too slow and you won't be able to make up the time later (but you may feel more rested at the end). Determine the pace that you believe you can honestly achieve and stick to it.

SAN RAMON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The results of a years-long behavioral science study conducted through a partnership between the University of Pennsylvanias Behavior Change for Good Initiative (BCFG) and well known fitness industry leader 24 Hour Fitness, is presented in the December 8 publication of the scientific journal Nature. High-intensity workouts, fascial stretching, powerlifting. In the winter we focused on bulking up, gaining mass. Running 20 miles a day, carrying 20 pounds of football pads on you. Even if you eat healthy for a year and regularly work out, it wont prepare you for football shape. I didnt know how far past my limits I could be pushed, by my teammates who were around me, all going through the same thing.
I got the nickname Kamikaze because I played with reckless abandon. I would knock players who were 50-60 pounds heavier than me to the side. If there was a time machine, I would go back and do it all over, but I would tell the person sending me back to erase my memory of the training because I would probably say no.
In my industry there are loads of things you cant control - Im not working every single day. Sometimes I need to get out of my head about things that dont matter, so I go to a class I have no control over and the instructors tell me what to do. I go to Hype LA, its a silent disco, everyone has headphones, Im with people who are trying their best.
Sometimes I book a HIIT class 20 minutes before it begins, because the longer I think about it, the more likely Im not going to do it.
Nowadays I work out with my friends and we motivate each other. KJ Apa (co-star on Riverdale) likes high intensity, 30 minutes - no chilling and out. When I train with Miles Chamley Watson, Olympian and fencing world champion, we have different body types, so we switch things up to keep the body guessing. Burpees I dont like them but Ill do them. Ill run six miles a week - spread out or all at once. 6.5mph at a 2.0 incline."
I drink barley water and eat kimchi all the time. Kimchi is Korean fermented cabbage. I eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can eat it with everything, eggs, tacos. I usually buy it off the shelf, but my family just came to visit me for Thanksgiving armed with jars of kimchi. Kimchi is great fresh, but its delicious grilled too with samgyupsal [grilled pork belly] and galbi [beef short ribs].
Ive just finished three months of not eating any red meat, after I spoke to a nutritionist. The plan he put me on has been life-changing and improved my relationship with food. It sounds like it could be tedious but I take pictures of everything I eat, creating a food diary on my phone. I have yet to have any KBBQ, but when I do it has to be the best red meat.
I like to use Korean skincare [products]. My mum taught me all about the skincare steps: hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Facial cleanser for 10-15 seconds, put on milk honey moisturiser. No SPF, although I should probably start doing that...
When I was in high school I was supposed to take medicine for acne but Mum insisted on treating me herself. She put a bag over my head to steam my skin with water vapour to open up the pores. Mum put on the milk honey and had this skin vacuum cleaner to pop my zits. No need to book a facial when shes around.

How Would You Fare on the U.S. Army’s Newly Revamped Fitness Test? – InsideHook
The U.S. Armys traditional APFT (physical fitness test) involved a lot of twos.
Soldiers would perform sit-ups for two minutes, push-ups for two minutes, then run two miles. An exceptional score generally includes some combination of 100-plus sit-ups, 100-plus push-ups and then two miles in under 12 minutes. Rep-heavy strength training and a long-distance time trial thats a rather disproportionate reliance on endurance. But for years the practice went unquestioned.
Not anymore. For the first time in four decades, after three years of tinkering, the U.S. Army is set to unveil a new test. It will debut in spring of next year, according to Bloomberg, and it will shift the focus away from endurance alone, towards strength, coordination and agility.
The new test calls for:
Its called the Combat Fitness Test, as opposed to the Physical Fitness Test, and that distinction is important. Since 2019, military officials have wanted an assessment that actually prepares soldiers for the various body movements theyll need to perform in training or while out in the field.
Crunches, conventional push-ups and running in a straight line are great fitness fodder for the average Joe, but a G.I. Joe needs to carry heavy loads on his back, knock down doors, lift up injured personnel, throw supplies onto helicopters, leap laterally to avoid enemy fire or shrapnel, jump over obstacles and climb rope.
All of those moves necessitate functional, full-body strength. If it sounds surprising that the wave of sustainable bodybuilding thats long since swept pro sports leagues, mixed martial arts and even the realm of professional musicians is just arriving at the standardized level in our armed forces, well, keep in mind that over half of American soldiers were injured in 2019. This despite the fact that only one in 10 soldiers actually see combat.
Bottom line: American soldiers need to be better prepared for the rigors of their profession, whether theyre shipped overseas or not. Earlier this year, in a sign that the armed forces are starting to take the health of their service members more seriously, the U.S. Army signed a contract with biometric performance company WHOOP.
Considering that the U.S. Army spends about $2 billion a day on the research and procurement of technological weapons (some of which, mind you are literally heavier for soldiers to carry around in combat), its gratifying that military officials have started to spend a bit more money (and time), thinking about the human side of the operation. It isnt just injuries, after all. Two massive issues plaguing American civilians at an alarming rate obesity and depression have also swept through the military. Attention to holistic health is a step in the right direction.
As for the test, there are some early concerns that it could put women at a disadvantage: women have failed it at a 90% rate so far. So dont be surprised if its amended to include gender-specific percentile groupings in the near future. But for now, the marching orders are pretty clear. The town of Bruceton celebrated the return of a hometown hero and the dedication of a new fitness zone last weekas former San Francisco 49ers linebacker and Bruceton native Patrick Willis launched his new charity.
Excited residents, curious onlookers and childhood friends of Willis gathered at the Bruceton Memorial Park as Bruceton Mayor Robert Keeton III snapped the ceremonial scissors with Willis, opening the wide array of athletic equipment to the public.
The event marked the debut of Willis The Whinkers Mind Youth Fund, a philanthropic organization working to bring accessible physical fitness to all youth.
Patrick is being inducted into the 49ers Hall of Fame in two weeks, and in honor of his induction, he wanted to thank those who had been a part of his growing up, said Joanne Pasternack, president and CEO of Oliver Rose, a philanthropic consultancy group that has been working with Willis on the project. So hes launching his Patrick Willis Youth Fundthe Whinkers Mind Youth Fund, and to launch it he wanted to give back to Bruceton.
Willis funded the wide array of all-weather, low impact and widely accessible fitness equipment, as well as donated equipment to his former high school.
Its all weather and all access, so no matter what your abilities or your challenges are, you can use this. That was really important to Patrickhe has a sister with special needs, and he wanted to make sure that everyone could really come in and use this, Pasternack said. Its also good for the elderlyits not far from the senior center, and that was done deliberately because we wanted this to be a fitness zone that was for kids and elderly alike.
Willis demonstrated a few of the exercises as Pasternack spoke, even going as far as to use the equipment with Harlon Butler, the 9-year-old son on Carroll County Mayor Joseph Butler.
It uses your own body weight to operate, so its not causing any strain on muscles, she said. So even if youre new to working out, you can use it. It has a tremendous life spanit wont need any maintenance for years and years and years.
Willis agreed.
Its free weights, so theres not weightsits just to get (residents) out here moving, he said. You dont have to be an athlete to get out here and use the machines. It can be used by anyone, old and young.
For Willis, the opportunity to give back has always been the goal.
I feel like its the right thing to toto invest in my community, he said. But most importantly, it was one of those things I always wanted to do. And my circumstances presented what they did, and I was very fortunate to be able to have some great friends in the community to help me get where I am.
To be able to give back to the community and where I come fromit means a lot. You know, dont forget where you come from. I told myself one day, if I ever make it, I want to be able to do this. And I was fortunate to get where I was able to get too, and now we have this.
Keeton expressed pride in how far Willis has comeand that he came back.
Patrick means a whole lot to this town, he said. Everybody has supported him since he was in high school, tremendous athlete that he was. He converted a lot of people to Ole Miss fans when he played for them, and 49ers when he went there. Hes well liked, and well respected, and its just a wonderful thing that hes done for us.
Although Willis still lives in California, he hopes that the kickoff of his new charity will help give back to Bruceton, even when hes not here.
Theres no place like home, he smiled. Home is where the heart is and Bruceton has my heart. Being able to come back and give backand not just give back anything, but give back something that everyone can use from young to old, it means a lot.
Its about legacy. We all start from somewhere, and we go through the process and the journey and we learn. We learn a lot. And Im a firm believer that with all you learn, if you dont give back and share and do things that can inspire other to go out and reach their fullest potential, why did you learn it? One day Ill end, but what I leave behind will hopefully continue to inspire. So I hope this will be one of those things.
