Injectable Weight Loss Drugs: Who Uses Them, and Do They Work? – Gallup
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Six percent of U.S. adults, representing an estimated 15.5 million people, report having used injectable diabetes medicine to reduce weight, including 3% who are currently using such medicine specifically for this purpose. Current or past usage runs slightly higher among women, those with health insurance and those aged 40 to 64.

This analysis is part of the Gallup National Health and Well-Being Index. The results are based on a web survey of 5,577 U.S. adults, conducted March 4-9, 2024, using Gallups probability-based panel encompassing all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Since the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the Eli Lilly drug Wegovy for weight loss in 2021, the use of diabetic drugs containing semaglutide has rapidly gained popularity among those hoping to lose weight. Other options have since come on the market, including Zepbound (tirzepatide), which received FDA approval in November 2023.
To measure current or previous household use, Gallup asked: Have you or a family member ever taken an injection for weight loss, such as semaglutide (brand names Ozempic and Wegovy) or liraglutide (brand name Saxenda)? To measure current individual use, Gallup asked: Are you currently taking injections for weight loss, such as semaglutide (brand names Ozempic and Wegovy) or liraglutide (brand name Saxenda)? The data reported here are based on individual rates rather than household.
Close to two-thirds of Americans who have taken weight loss injections (64%) say the drugs have been either extremely effective or effective at helping them lose weight. Only 11% report weight loss injections to be not at all effective.
Perceived effectiveness is relatively consistent among younger and middle-aged adults, with 70% of those aged 18 to 49 and 67% of those aged 50 to 64 reporting weight loss injections as effective or extremely effective. Among adults aged 65 and older, however, reported effectiveness is much lower, at 48%.
###Embeddable###
Both current and past users of weight loss injections are more likely to be obese than those who have never taken injections. Current users are about twice as likely to be obese as those who have never taken injections (71% vs. 36%, respectively).
Associated chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes are also substantially higher among both current and past users than among those who have never taken weight loss injections, indicating a higher overall disease burden among users.
However, compared with current users, Americans who have previously taken weight loss injections report lower levels of obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes. While these differences are consistent with the benefits reported in clinical trials, weight loss injections that are prescribed in conjunction with changes to diet and exercise may also help reduce disease burden.
###Embeddable###
Current users are more optimistic about their weight loss and wellbeing than past users. Nearly three-quarters of current users (73%) say weight loss injections are effective or extremely effective, compared with 53% of past users.
Although experiencing lower levels of effectiveness may contribute to decisions to discontinue using weight loss injections, less positive reports among past users are also consistent with recent critiques of weight loss injections as a long-term solution, with sources indicating that discontinued use can be associated with weight gain or other side effects.
###Embeddable###
Reported effectiveness among users of injectable weight loss drugs indicates that a substantial number of Americans -- about 10 million -- believe they have benefited from the injections. Evidence of lower rates of obesity and other chronic conditions among past users relative to current users may corroborate these reports.
However, lower levels of self-reported effectiveness among older adults and past users, as well as lower rates of use among uninsured Americans, suggest a need for further exploration of patterns of access and benefit across various subgroups.

Food Network Chef Guy Fieri Reveals How He Lost 30 Lbs. Amid Wellness Journey – E! NEWS
Well aware that she's hot in Cleveland, L.A. or wherever else she happens to be, the actress gave her refreshing take on body image with a February Instagram post.
"This is a 150lb body on a 5'4 frame," the Food Network host wrote, sharing a 2014 bikini photo. "I don't weigh myself anymore because this is considered overweight by who's [sic] standards, I don't know. It's stupid and I believed them for far too long."
Fully removed from the pressures of dieting, "I now, finally, know that I am a kind, considerate, funny, thoughtful woman," she continued. "So please remember, who you are and what your character is, should never be overshadowed by what size you are or how much you weigh. You are enough. Just the way you are."
As for anyone that might not agree, she summed up, "F--k em."

Lamar Jackson Shares His Reason for Offseason Weight Loss – BaltimoreRavens.com
Asked if he does now feel more agile, Jackson responded with a "heck yeah."
"I feel great," Jackson said. "It's been so long [since feeling this agile]. We had COVID that happened to us; it slowed us down a little. But I feel great now. I feel great."
Jackson took off on one long run during Wednesday's practice, but it's hard to gauge whether, or how much, quicker he is compared to previous seasons. His teammates say he looks fast to them, but he's always looked fast.
If he stays at 205 pounds, Jackson would be lighter than almost every starting quarterback in recent decades, and none that played that low ran as much as Jackson. But Jackson has never fretted about his durability.
"We sacrifice our body each and every game [and] practices," he said. "I believe it really doesn't matter about the weight."
Ravens Strength & Conditioning Coordinator Scott Elliott said at the start of the offseason program that the Ravens intend to "add lean muscle" on top of his frame, but that Jackson is in "great shape."
Head Coach John Harbaugh echoed those sentiments Wednesday, saying the Ravens don't have a target weight for Jackson.
"I mean, it's fine. I think that's Lamar. He's a pro. He knows what he's doing. He knows where he wants to be with that," Harbaugh said. "My concern is that he's in shape, best shape of his life, and he's working toward that. He's ready football-wise, all the details that go with that mentally, physically, spiritually ready to go. That's kind of what I think about. I know he talks to the strength and conditioning people. He's got his own people. He talks to [director of sports nutrition] Sarah [Snyder] all the time. He's a pro. He knows what he's doing."

Cat learns how to swim in order to lose weight – New York Post
Sweet fancy Moses!
A privileged layabout of a cat who weighs as much as a French bulldog has been prescribed a thoroughly unusual exercise routine one that seems to be working, his caregivers say.
Moses, 9, a chonk of burning love at more than double the healthy size for his age, is learning how to swim, something cats are not known to enjoy.
His owner is taking the unusual step after countless failed diets and efforts to get the family-size feline to go outside and move around.
The pudgy puss has now been signed up for hydrotherapy at a veterinarian clinic near his home in Wellesbourne, England.
Things are going swimmingly, according to veterinary hydrotherapist Olivia Stokes, who is treating the fluffy boy.
When he first came to us, Moses was nearly 22 pounds, she said.
His owner said he had been on diets and been encouraged to exercise before but had still not able to lose weight. So, we decided to try a different approach with hydrotherapy. Its a very unusual approach in caring for cats, Stokes explained.
I have been in the industry for five years and a qualified hydrotherapist for almost two years and I have never experienced hydro with a cat before, so Moses was a first for me, she confessed.
That is because cats dont usually like water and, sure enough, on his first taster session Moses was not impressed at all. He needed a lot of encouragement as he resisted the treatment, she said.
At the start, I tried gradually increasing the water level for him, like we would for a dog, but this wasnt well tolerated. I also tried all sorts of cat treats but he wasnt interested in them for long either. So, then I ran the treadmill dry with no water to just get him used to walking, Stokes recalled.
I then added water and found lowering him into the treadmill worked best. Fast forward down the line and Moses now sits in the tank as I increase the water level, then knows exactly what to do, she said.
Once he has been walking for 13 minutes, I then lift him up, raise the water level further, and swim him for a couple of minutes to give him a full body workout.
Moses has become an old pro now, hes not only losing the pounds, hes toning up and getting into good shape, which has him moving around a lot more at home.
Stokes said that hes lost nearly four percent of his body weight in about six weeks, which she considers about the right speed.
The important thing is that his body shape is clearly changing as he loses the fat and builds back muscle. I am very proud of Moses progression; hes even walking with the incline on the treadmill now, she said.
Moses has always been a big cat but had gained a lot of weight over the last three years, said his owner, Jenna Joshi, a clinical nursing manager at the vets clinic.
Id been keeping him on a strict diet but this didnt help at all. He just was not interested in going outside, exercising or playing with toys. I asked my colleagues whether we could try hydrotherapy to help with his mobility and, hopefully, help him lose some weight, she said.
I could see a difference almost straightaway. It was difficult at first but now he doesnt complain and knows exactly what he needs to do when he goes for his sessions.

Steve Schirripa Weight Loss: The Sopranos’ Bobby Bacala Looks Totally Different Now – Screen Rant
Summary
Steve Schirripa has had some significant weight loss in the years since he starred on The Sopranos as the stout Bobby Bacala. One of HBO's best original series of all time, The Sopranos has been enthralling new viewers and the many fans who have revisited it over the years since it premiered in January 1999, introducing crime boss Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) and his coterie of violent, unpleasant, and completely fascinating hangers-on. The supporting cast for The Sopranos is as much a reason to watch the show as for Tony.
Every character, even those with little screen time, has substantial arcs that carve them out as human and real, not just red shirts to be murdered on The Sopranos in various grisly ways. Since the end of the show, the actors and crew have fondly recalled their time on the series. The podcasts, Not Today Pal, with Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Robert Iler, and Talking Sopranos with Schirripa and Michael Imperioli have rejuvenated interest in the show and pulled back the curtain on some actors, including Schirripa, who fans may not even recognize after his significant weight loss.
The Sopranos was known for its big personalities but how tall or short were the actual actors playing the famous characters?
Bobby Bacala is one of the few "nice" guys on The Sopranos. He doesn't cheat on his wife, he has never killed anyone (until Tony essentially makes him), and he was a loyal and respectful caretaker to Junior Soprano (Dominic Chianese). First introduced in season 2, episode 2, "Do Not Resuscitate", Bobby goes from bumbling sidekick to the unofficial heir apparent by the end of the show. Despite his success as a gangster, the other members of the crew mock him mercilessly for his weight. Carlo (Arthur J. Nascarella) jokes,
"Bobby did mushrooms once, stuffed mushrooms. A whole f*****g platter!"
Paulie (Tony Sirico) comments about Bobby and another man,
"Oh look at that. It's like an ad for a f*****g weight loss center... Before, and WAY before hehe."
Tony gets in on the cruel teasing more than anyone, memorably falling into hysterics when he sees Bobby dressed for a hunting trip, a scene where James Gandolfini actually broke character.
Bobby is a hefty man, large enough to beat Tony in a knock-down drag-out fight in season 6. Schirripa wasn't quite that big at the start of the series, and he told Esquire how he had to wear a fat suit in the early seasons,
"Im reading the script and theres all these fat references... And I said to my wife, did they hire the wrong guy? Because Im not that much fatter than Tony Soprano. Honestly! Im going maybe they got the wrong guy over here. Then, I got a call to come in a few days early to get fit for a fat suit. So my first two seasons I wore a fat suit on the show to be bigger than Tony. Way bigger than Tony."
It was a fat suit that gave Bobby his appearance in those early seasons of The Sopranos, but by later ones, Schirripa had gained enough weight that he no longer needed it,
"...I guess by Season Four I was fat enough on my own so they let me take it off."
After The Sopranos, Schirripa committed himself to a weight-loss journey that saw him get under his early Sopranos seasons' weight. Schirripa steadily lost 30 pounds per year over 10 years in 2013 (via GrubStreet), and even released a diet book, The Goomba Diet: Living Large and Loving It (via Amazon). The book is more concerned with humor rather than strict outlines on how to lose weight, but moderating his caloric intake is clearly something Schirripa has been attentive to.
He makes an effort to stay healthy but doesn't see anything wrong with enjoying himself and life once in a while.
Schirripa often posts on his Instagram page, revealing a much more svelte figure than his character on The Sopranos ever had, but he is not over-preoccupied with staying fit. Some videos show him eating carrots in celebration of Easter and others show him indulging in a big sandwich. Schirripa follows his own advice when it comes to dieting. He makes an effort to stay healthy but doesn't see anything wrong with enjoying himself and life once in a while.
Considered to be a quintessential drama series to watch, The Sopranos is a crime-drama series that follows Tony Soprano, who tries to manage the expectations of an Italian-American patriarch while acting as the head of a prolific New Jersey crime family. Burdened by the stress of the expectations thrust upon him, Tony regularly visits a therapist throughout the series run. This helps give context to Tony's actions as a ruthless boss with violent tendencies.

Sister Wives: Meri Brown’s Best Plum Outfits After Weight Loss – Screen Rant
Summary
Kody Brown and Meri Brown of Sister Wives called it quits after 32 years of marriage, and Meri has since been losing weight and looking better than ever. Meri was the first of Kody's four wives. They were married in 1990 and had one child together. Meri chose to live in a plural marriage for religious and ideological reasons, but she and Kody struggled to make their relationship work. Many years before their divorce, Kody and Meri had stopped living as husband and wife, and Kody had been painfully open about not being attracted to Meri.
In January 2023, the Sister Wives season 18 stars announced their split. Meri and Kody had already divorced in 2014 because Kody wanted to legally marry Robyn Brown. Being legally married would make it easier for Kody to adopt Robyn's three children from a past marriage. Despite the paperwork, Kody and Meri were still in a spiritual union until the dissolution of their relationship. Since leaving Kody, Meri has been focused on her health and fitness goals. She has lost weight and has been experimenting with her color palette. Here are Meri's best looks in shades of purple.
Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.
Shortly after separating from Kody, Meri started dating a new man, Amos Andres. Despite all that she had been through, Meri seemed like she was on the mend after the devastating end of her marriage. After being rejected by Kody for years, Meri hoped she had found her happy ending with a man who wanted to be with her. Meri's former sister wife, Christine Brown, had found true love with David Woolley after leaving Kody in 2021. Hopes were high that Meri and Amos were headed down a similar path.
Those hopes were dashed when the relationship ended, leaving Meri single again.
In February 2024, not long after going public with her relationship with Amos, Meri posted an Instagram message announcing their break-up. In the post, she's wearing a form-fitting purple top that really shows off Meri's impressive weight loss.
The caption reads, in part, " Just because I care a lot about someone, and him me, does not equate to full compatibility for a long-term relationship ."
Though the message of the post is a sad one, Meri has arguably never looked better. The Instagram post has over 44.4k likes.
By the time Meri ended her marriage with Kody, his second and third wives, Janelle Brown and Christine, had already walked away. The Brown family was tacitly separated into two: Team Christine and Janelle on one side and Kody and his fourth wife, Robyn Brown, on the other side. Meri was stuck with Kody and Robyn, cutting off her connections to Christine, Janelle, and all their children. With Meri's one child grown up and out of the house, all Meri had was Kody and Robyn. When the Sister Wives star finally ended things with Kody, she was on her own.
Divided from the rest of her family, Meri had to lean on her friends, and she often posted about her friends on social media.
In August 2023, Meri posted a selfie with her friend, JD Crawford, on Instagram. Meri's caption reads, in part, "One of my favorite moments from the weekend was hanging out with one of my favorite people!" In the photo, Meri is wearing a top in a bold plum tone, proving again that purple is her color. The comment section of the post is rife with comments about how great Meri and JD look together. Some fans were hoping that this was a new man in Meri's life, but they appeared to be just friends.
The Instagram post has 36.1k likes
Though Meri is a single woman who lives alone, she doesn't have to live a lonely life. In fact, considering Kody's neglect of Meri, she was arguably much more lonely when she was still married to him. Meri's closest friend is, without a doubt, Jenn Sullivan. In April 2022, Meri posted a birthday message for Jenn on Instagram. In one of the photos, Meri is wearing a purple print sweater and beaming. The post reads, in part, "Happiest of birthdays to my BFF, my bestie, my ride or die!" and has 11.5k likes.
The photo, which is over two years old, really highlights how much weight Meri has lost in the last couple of years.
After leaving Kody, Meri focused on her health and well-being. The Sister Wives star embarked on her weight-loss journey and started living a more active lifestyle. However, Meri's world was shaken to its core by news of the tragic death of Garrison Brown on March 5. 25-year-old Garrison was Kody's son with his second wife, Janelle.
Meri had known Garrison his whole life, and he was like a son to her. Garrison's tragic death devastated the Brown family, including Meri, who has looked even thinner since he passed away. This has led to speculations that Meri has been eating less as she mourns following the loss. Hopefully, she will continue to lean on her friends during these difficult times. Sister Wives season 19 will likely follow the Browns as they continue to grieve Garrison.

Flabby Feline Has Taken to Swimming Lessons for Losing WeightAnd it’s Working – Good News Network
Avonvale Veterinary Centres via SWNS
A fat cat that weighs more than double his healthy size has been thrown into the deep end on a mission to lose weight by swimming.
Moses, who weighs as much as a French bulldog, started the unusual hydrotherapy sessions in a bid to slim down in much the same way that people with bad knees, a bad back, bad hips, or too great a body mass index use pools to start exercising.
The nine-year-old cat piled on the pounds after refusing to go outside or exercise despite his owner putting him on countless diets.
At Avonvale Veterinary Centre in Wellesbourne, Warwickshire, staff say that his weight loss mission is going swimmingly.
When he first came to us, Moses was nearly 10kg in weight, said Olivia Stokes, veterinary hydrotherapist, meaning 22 pounds. His owner said he had been on diets and been encouraged to exercise before but had still not been able to lose weight.
So, we decided to try a different approach with hydrotherapy. I have been in the industry for five years and a qualified hydrotherapist for almost two years, and I have never experienced hydro with a cat before, so Moses was a first for me.
Obviously this was because Moses didnt like water, as is true for so many cats. Stokes tried a variety of toys and treats to get Moses started but eventually switched to tougher methods, including starting him on a moving treadmill before adding water.
Now she says that Moses sits and waits on the treadmill for the water level to come up before starting.

Once he has been walking for 13 minutes, I then lift him up, raise the water level further, and swim him for a couple of minutes to give him a full body workout, she added.
Moses is now starting to shape up, and as well as losing weight has become far more active and livelier at home. He is already down 2.2 pounds, and the vets see an increase in muscle tissue as well.
Thats a loss in body weight of almost four percent in about six weeks, which is perfect as we dont want to lose the weight too quickly, said Stokes. The important thing is that his body shape is clearly changing as he loses the fat and builds back muscle.

I am very proud of Moses progression; hes even walking with the incline on the treadmill now.
Moses owner Jenna Joshi is thrilled with her pets progress.
I could see a difference almost straight away, she remembers. After his first hydro session, he came through the cat flap, which he hadnt done in a long time.
We are still having regular weight checks, still doing hydrotherapy, and making good progress. It was difficult at first but now he doesnt complain and knows exactly what he needs to do when he goes for his sessions.
