Michael Mosley: Eat more of the right foods to reach ideal weight & stay there – plan – Daily Express
Doctor Michael Mosley often shares his weight loss tips with slimmers online as well as on television. He is the creator of The Fast 800 a diet plan that helps people lose weight quickly.
According to doctor Mosley, following The Fast 800 diet is a great place to start if youre looking to lose weight.
He said: It provides you with all of the tools you will need to start changing your lifestyle for the better.
Once youve entered your goals, you will receive meal plans, recipes, shopping lists, exercises and mindful exercises to help you achieve your objective.
In terms of the types of foods you should be looking to add into your diet, doctor Mosley recommended a good balance of protein, fibre, and healthy fats.

This is essentially the Mediterranean diet.
This diet consists of plenty of vegetables, cheese, full-fat yoghurt, fatty fish, lentils, nuts, wholegrains, and more.
Doctor Mosley continued: The good news is, whether you incorporate intermittent fasting or not, a low carb Mediterranean diet has unique power not just to restore your bodys ability to reach its ideal weight and stay there, but also to cut your risk of serious disease.
Losing weight is not about how much you eat but what you eat, Doctor Mosley stressed.

He said: It doesnt come from a place of restriction but rather its about eating more of the right foods.
Not only will these foods keep you feeling full, but they also offer important nutrients and health benefits, and taste delicious.
However, the doctor highlighted that intermittent fasting isnt for everyone, saying: How you start intermittent fasting very much depends on you and your sort of personality type.
I normally recommend that people start gradually, he added.
So, start by consuming your food in a 12 hour window, and fasting the rest of the time.
Once youve got used to that, move on to a 10-hour period of eating.
Doctor Mosley advised having the last meal of the day at 8pm and not eating anything after that.
He said: One thing I would say is there is mounting evidence that it is better if you finish your evening meal earlier, rather than having a late meal, skipping breakfast, and then fasting until lunchtime.
So, however you do time restricted eating, I would recommend you try and stop eating by 8pm and then not eat anything again with calories before breakfast the next day.
If you are fasting for 12 hours, you can have breakfast at 8am.
Then you might try moving it a little bit later, to 10am or breakfast.
In that case, you might want to have something like a meal replacement shake for breakfast, which might be more convenient if you're at work.
The doctor added: If youre really pushing it towards eating all your food in eight hours, which is trickier, then you'd probably aim for something like skipping breakfast altogether and having lunch around 12pm or 1pm.

Weight loss: Man drops 4 stone in 12 weeks by cutting down on one thing ‘Changed my life!’ – Express
Peter Markwick, 58, from East Sussex changed his life when he embarked on Dr Michael Mosleys Fast 800 programme. Feeling exhausted, tired and lethargic, Peter was frequently poorly with colds and chest infections. After struggling at work, he was prescribed blood pressure tablets and cholesterol medication in January this year. Having tried to lose weight before, Peter would get bored with the diet and after a serious conversation with a health professional about the state of his liver, Peter decided to turn his life around. In just 12 weeks, Peter lost 3.7 stone taking his weight from 17.7 stone to 14 stone and hasnt looked back since.
Peter toldExpress.co.ukabout his weight loss journey: I had been drinking far too much beer for 40 years, and consequently the GP prescribed cholesterol and blood pressure medication. I was also taking medication for psoriasis and arthritis.
What really hit home was a phone call with a hospital nurse, who was very concerned about my high liver count levels after a blood test. She said if I carried on drinking to that level, I would end up in hospital with serious liver issues.
Realising he needed to take his health seriously, Peter chose The Fast 800 online programme.
When I lost a stone, I started to get lovely comments from friends and customers, he explained. Interestingly, many of them said Youre looking well rather than commenting on my weight loss.
The most fantastic improvement apart from the weight loss is that my doctor has been able to take me off all medications, he added.
READ MORE:William and Kate to receive Windsor Castle apartment
My psoriasis has significantly improved and my arthritis causes me minimal pain now.
Peter initially followed The Very Fast 800, a short-term, intensive approach designed for those who need to lose a lot of weight quickly.
Followers eat 800 calories per day for up to 12 weeks, using the healthy, Mediterranean-style recipes rich in protein, fibre and healthy fats provided within the online programmes meal plans.
The Fast 800 has really opened my eyes as to how delicious Mediterranean-style food is, Peter said. Although I ate 800 calories for the first 12 weeks, my energy levels were high.
Now, having completed The Very Fast 800 approach, I can see just how much better I am feeling mentally and physically.
He has now moved onto on of The Fast 800s longer-term sustainable approaches, The Way of Life, eating a moderately low-carb, Mediterranean-style diet.
Peter occasionally incorporates an 800-calorie day along with time-restricted eating where he fasts daily for up to 16 hours, usually overnight.
This approach is intended for those looking to maintain their weight while further improving their fitness and metabolic health.
For people with only a small amount of weight to lose or those who want to lose weight more gradually, The Fast 800 online programme also offers The New 5:2 approach, which factors in two 800-calorie fasting days per week and five non-fasting days.
Peter continued: The great thing about The Very Fast 800 approach, along with the constant support and information available on the online programme, is that when youve completed 12 weeks of it, you feel confident and educated enough to move to the longer-term approaches.
When you move on to The New 5:2 or Way of Life, youre just eating even more of the lovely foods youve enjoyed for the past 12 weeks, with the know-how to make good choices in the real world.

Looking back at how far he has come, Peter said: I am amazed at the amount of energy I now have. My brain has become much sharper, and I have an excitement about life.
I realised after about seven weeks into The Fast 800 that I could get used to this lifestyle.
The diet works because all youre doing is eating great food. And once youve reached your goal you just increase the volume of the lovely food youve been eating for 12 weeks.
As for his social life: I dont struggle to go out with my friends for a drink. I still have the occasional beer, but Im in total control now, unlike before.
My weight loss has inspired my wife to change her lifestyle too. She was very supportive of me, and has recently started her journey now.
Peters final piece of advice is: Start by committing to weeks of your life, because it can completely change your life.
The Fast 800 online programme offers a sustainable plan for the growing number of people. who struggle with weight loss and want to continue eating satisfying, real-food meals.
The platform guides them to eat a Mediterranean-style diet, scientifically proven to be one of the best ways of eating for long-term health, so the results they achieve are sustained long-term, and their health is improved to support an active lifestyle well into the future.

Jamie Oliver discusses his dream dinner party guests
Jamie Oliver has revealed he shed almost two stone by ditching fad diets and cutting down on just one type of food.
The TV chef, best known for his popular cooking shows on Channel 4 including Jamies 15 Minute Meals, and Jamies Ministry of Food, said by swapping out one element of his diet, hes managed to inadvertently lose a lot of weight.
Jamie, who shares five kids - Poppy, 19, Daisy, 18, Petal, 12, Buddy, 11, and five-year-old River - with wife Jools Oliver, said dropping meat from his everyday diet really helped him shift the pounds.
I pushed meat down, pushed veggie up, got more sleep and more movement, he told the Radio Times.
The Naked Chef said when he began opting for healthier meals, as well as halving his portion sizes, he saw an immediate effect.
I lost 12 kilos quite quickly and I didn't do it through not eating, Jamie explained.

He recommended swapping meat for large servings of veggies, and urged people to start snacking on nuts as theyre hugely beneficial for heart health.
Feed them to your kids as well, Jamie recommended in the interview, which took place last year.
His love for veggies was reignited when he decided to create a cookbook full of delicious plant-based recipes, Ultimate Veg, which was released in August 2019.

Jamie also cut back on booze, and tried getting more sleep at night, which is hard when youre a working parent with five kids.
But he now only drinks on a weekend after banning alcohol midweek, and said hes now more mindful and has a positive consciousness.
Another super food recommendation was seaweed, and the award-winning chef said it was the most nutritious vegetable in the world.

Jamies also a big fan of a nutritious breakfast, and as he shared his wifes recipe for granola on his website, he called it the perfect portable breakfast.
Granola is a great way to enjoy all the different types of dried fruits, nuts and seeds that you might not otherwise get in your diet, he wrote.
During an appearance on Loose Women in 2015, he told the panelists hes been inspired to lose weight after years of trying to stay in shape, and said he realised he hadnt spent any time looking after himself.
I went back to school and started studying nutrition, started travelling to parts of the world to where people live the longest lives and started looking at their lifestyles, Jamie explained.

7 Healthy And Natural Ways To Increase Testosterone – Longevity LIVE – Longevity LIVE
But the goal is never to eliminate stress. Youll only get more stressed if you try. Because guess what? The less stress you experience, the more stressful, less stressful things seem. Just as muscles grow with each workout, our bodies adapt to stressors and can deal with more of them.
But before you go out there and try to stress yourself out and bulk up your stress response, know this. How you respond to it impacts whether stress makes you stronger or weaker.
If you stress out, self-medicate and marinate in stress, it destroys your immune system and disrupts hormone production. But when you learn to manage it and let stuff go, your bodys ability to handle stress with a lesser stress response increases. So you need fewer stress hormones to deal with stress.
Vitamin D is, in fact, a hormone, not a vitamin. You produce it when exposed to sunlight. But you can also get it from mushrooms, eggs, supplements, and fortified products.
Vitamin D is critical for testosterone production, so you need to make sure youre getting enough of it to increase this vital hormone.

What men really need to know about low ‘T’ – fox13now.com
You may have seen ads targeting men with low testosterone or low T promising all kinds of benefits...but are they too good to be true?
Dr. Drew Oliveira, Senior Executive Medical Director for Regence BlueCross BlueShield says, The truth of it is, our testosterone gets lower as we age.
Oliveira says you may have heard that pills or supplements that can reverse this problem. And while there are some conditions that require testosterone replacement - contrary to advertisements, reduced vitality, strength and even demeanor or mood are not really a diagnostic for low testosterone.
Oliveira says to keep in mind that, Testosterone replacement has risks. A study of 15,000 older men men, showed a 21 percent increase in cardiovascular events in that group heart attacks, strokes. So, its not 100 percent safe to replace testosterone, especially in that population.
Instead, he suggests some other ways to stay healthy as you age.
First, if you smoke, stop smoking. Second, if you need to drink, limit your drinks to two drinks a day.
Alcohol use, Oliveira says, is associated with higher risks of cancer and cardiovascular risks, including hypertension.
Oliveira says you should also focus on diet and exercise to ensure healthy aging.
Maintain an ideal body weight. If youre overweight, even losing five percent will help. Eat healthy, what you eat should be very colorful, fruits, vegetables, grains, limit the amount of fats in your diet. All those things will help.
150 minutes of vigorous activity is also recommended each week.
If you do those things, you will feel better, you will feel younger, you will stay fit, you will live in optimum health, and you will live longer, says Oliveira.

Sex steroid hormones are associated with mortality in COVID-19 patients: Level of sex hormones in severe COVID-19 – DocWire News

Medicine (Baltimore). 2021 Aug 27;100(34):e27072. doi: 10.1097/MD.0000000000027072.
ABSTRACT
In patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), men are more severely affected than women. Multiple studies suggest that androgens might play a role in this difference in disease severity. Our objective was to assess the association between sex hormone levels and mortality in patients with severe COVID-19.We selected patients from the Amsterdam University Medical Centers COVID-19 Biobank, in which patients admitted to hospital in March and April 2020, with reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction proven severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 infection, were prospectively included. Specifically, we included postmenopausal women (>55 years) and age-matched men, with a mortality of 50% in each group. Residual plasma samples were used to measure testosterone, estradiol, sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), and albumin. We investigated the association of the levels of these hormones with mortality in men and women. We included 16 women and 24 men in March and April 2020 of whom 7 (44%) and 13 (54%), respectively, died. Median age was 69 years (interquartile range [IQR] 64-75). In men, both total and free testosterone was significantly lower in deceased patients (median testosterone 0.8 nmol/L [IQR 0.4-1.9] in deceased patients vs 3.2 nmol/L [IQR 2.1-7.5] in survivors; P < .001, and median free testosterone 33.2 pmol/L [IQR 15.3-52.2] in deceased patients vs 90.3 pmol/L [IQR 49.1-209.7] in survivors; P = .002). SHBG levels were significantly lower in both men and women who died (18.5 nmol/L [IQR 11.3-24.3] in deceased patients vs 34.0 nmol/L [IQR 25.0-48.0] in survivors; P < .001). No difference in estradiol levels was found between deceased and surviving patients.Low SHBG levels were associated with mortality rate in patients with COVID-19, and low total and free testosterone levels were associated with mortality in men. The role of testosterone and SHBG and potential of hormone replacement therapy needs further exploration in COVID-19.

Considering Male Hormone Replacement Therapy To Improve Health – Muncie Voice
To achieve optimal health, balanced hormones are required, no matter whether you are a man or a woman. Many men experience symptoms of weight gain, decreased motivation, low libido, depression, and tiredness as they start to get older and their testosterone levels lower. This is known as Andropause, which is commonly deemed male menopause. Going through these symptoms can easily make you feel down and stressed.
There are options available, and one solution to consider is what is known as male hormone replacement therapy. Below, we will reveal everything you need to know about it to get a much better understanding of what it is and what it entails.
The main benefit of male hormone replacement therapy is that it will help to lower and even reverse the symptoms associated with getting older. A lot of people have reported feeling more vigorous and younger after going through the treatment phase. However, all of the symptoms mentioned can cause a person to feel down and depressed, so male hormone replacement therapy helps make sure you enjoy life again.
When it comes to male hormone replacement therapy, otherwise known as testosterone replacement therapy, the man will be given testosterone. This is the hormone responsible for producing male characteristics, such as muscularity and facial hair, as well as the development of the male sex organs.
It is important to talk with a specialist at a clinic to determine whether or not male hormone replacement therapy is right for you. This is why the consultation phase is imperative. It will give them a full understanding of the condition you are experiencing and your medical history. This will enable the professional to come to the best decision on what will be right for you.
There are many different ways that you can go about male hormone replacement therapy. While some of the different methods do include injections, some do not require them at all. We will be able to talk you through some of the different available options. Aside from injections, some of the other choices include patches and testosterone gels.
Because of the rise of the Internet, there is a lot of misinformation out there nowadays. Recent research indicates that there is no link between prostate cancer and male hormone replacement therapy. In a study that was carried out whereby 1,500 patients were observed, it was deemed that higher testosterone levels may even help lower the risk of prostate cancer. Moreover, the risk of prostate cancer may increase if you have low testosterone levels, and therefore, there is no link between this type of cancer and Male Hormone Replacement Therapy.
