Some of the biggest names in sports are investing in the wearable company Whoop amid a global pandemic.
The fitness tracking company announced Wednesday it closed a $100 million financing round, valuing it at $1.2 billion.
The latest round of investors includes Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes, champion golfers Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald and two-time NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant (via his business venture ThirtyFive Ventures).
Whoop makes fitness trackers that can monitor vitals like movement, sleep and workouts. It's been the fitness tracker of choice for a number of recognizable pro athletes, and has been used to help monitor potential symptoms of Covid-19 as sports came back after play was suspended due to the pandemic in the spring.
"I've always loved Whoop the product, but I learned that Whoop the business was just as good. I'm proud to be investing again in this round of financing and very excited about the company's prospects," McIlroy said in a statement. The four-time Majors Champion also serves as a global ambassador to Whoop.
The funding round was led by venture capital firm IVP, which will get a board seat with Whoop. Other participating investors include SoftBank Vision Fund 2, Accomplice, Two Sigma Ventures, Collaborative Fund, Thursday Ventures, Nextview Ventures, Promus Ventures, Cavu Ventures and D20 Capital.
"A lot of the capital will go towards investing in membership, the overall experience, software, analytics and hardware," Will Ahmed, Whoop CEO said in an interview with CNBC. "It's really about bolstering the coaching aspect of Whoop. We aspire to be a 24/7 life coach to tell you what you need to do to improve."
The Boston-based sports wearable company got its start in 2012 and now has more than 330 employees after a surge of recent hires. Ahmed said the company has hired 200 new employees in 2020.
The company wouldn't provide revenue numbers but said its subscribers have been growing quickly over the last 12 months due to an increased interest in health during the pandemic. Whoop has raised more than $200 million in funding to date.
"Whoop has built best-in-class wearable technology and an aspirational brand that have propelled the company to an impressive period of hypergrowth," Eric Liaw, General Partner at IVP, said in a statement.
Ahmed said Whoop members range from professional athletes, Fortune 500 CEOs and fitness enthusiasts. The nylon band equipped with sensors is designed to gather data to measure everything from exertion levels to sleep patterns to help users improve their overall health. Whoop's business model is based on a subscription service. Users sign up for a monthly subscription starting at $30 and the wearable devices are included for free.
Whoop has seen recent success and raised its global profile during the pandemic as many users have noticed changes in their health scores as early indicators of coronavirus symptoms.
Ahmed said that Whoop members have reported Covid-19 symptoms "thousands of times" with the app and the company will have additional announcements in its July study that is about to be peer reviewed.
Whoop has raised $100M, valuing the company at $1.2 billion.

In June, PGA Tour golfer Nick Watney said it was his wearable fitness tracker that first alerted him that he may have coronavirus. Ahead of the RBC Heritage event, Watney noticed his respiratory rate had spiked from Whoop's app. Despite not feeling any of the physical symptoms associated with Covid-19, Watney decided to get tested and discovered he was positive for the virus.
Following his diagnosis, the PGA Tour signed a deal with Whoop to make their product available to all golfers and caddies on the Tour who wanted one. The Tour finished its recent season with fewer than 10 positive cases over 18 events.
Today, companies like Tory Burch are using Whoop in their offices as a way to track their health and fitness. Ahmed said the enterprise opportunity has become a meaningful business for Whoop, which is working with a number of businesses that want to be able to help large audiences and teams better understand their bodies and health.
"I think when you're building a business you have to adapt to the environment," said Ahmed. "We've had to learn how to support our customers during an unusual time but also at a time where health monitoring has become more and more important," he said.

Fernando Alonso, Barcelona test
Renault
Fernando Alonso says he will be working on building up his neck muscles as he tests a two-year-old Renault this week in Bahrain.
After a two-year sabbatical, the 39-year-old Spaniard is returning to Formula 1 next year to replace Daniel Ricciardo as Renault becomes Alpine.
Some people have been surprised about Alonso's commitment so far.
He has done a filming day in the 2020 car, joined the team at Imola, follows the races from a sophisticated home setup, drives in the simulator at Enstone, and even pushed to do the 'young driver' test in Abu Dhabi next month.
"I'm not crazy, I just feel involved in the project for my return," Alonso told France's L'Equipe.
His big task in Bahrain this week is building up his race fitness.
"My neck is not ready yet," he admits. "I have worked a lot in the gym but nothing replaces the car. I need kilometres. The more you drive in F1 the better you are."
When asked if he really needs a lot of preparation after two world championships and having spent most of his adult life in the paddock, Alonso answered: "If I want to win, yes."
He played down any comparison with Michael Schumacher's disappointing F1 comeback.
"Michael had great cars during his career and when he came back his car was normal, so everyone was disappointed," said Alonso.
"In my case the opposite could happen. I had inferior cars in the last five years of my career and who knows what will happen now."

Over 44 million people have contracted the novel coronavirus as of Oct. 28, according to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center. About 1.2 million have died.
As this pandemic rages across the globe and irrevocably changes more and more lives, its impact becomes increasingly difficult to visualize:1.2 million deathsthats about half the population of Houston, Texas. Thats 11 million people left in mourning, according to Kaiser Health Newsgreater than the populations of New York City and Chicago combined. Still, even making these abstract comparisons minimizes the importance of each life lost, each person left disabled by long-term COVID-19 complications, and each person who lost work or income during the pandemic.
Stacker compiled 50 charts that attempt to capture the scope of lives impacted by COVID-19. Some charts visualize global impacts, but most focus on the U.S. Sources include the COVID Tracking Project at The Atlantic, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Tableau Publics Coronavirus (COVID-19) Viz Gallery, and custom charts made by Stacker specifically for this story.

Most people have a love hate relationship with push-ups, but they shouldnt. Push ups dont require any equipment, can be modified for different abilities and are fantastic for the golf swing.
This upper body exercise can increase power while maintaining a stable core. It also strengthens your upper body which can result in higher club head speed and an increase in distance.
In the latest episode of Fitness with Averee, Averee Dovsek demonstrates how to do a push up and the benefits it can have on your golf game. It is time to hit bombs!

Forge’s fitness carries them to Concacaf League win: ‘We love being out here’ – Canadian Premier League

Another crucial game for Forge FC, another bout of late heroics.
When the dust fully settles on their 2-1 road win over Panamas Tauro FCin the Concacaf League round of 16, itll be easier to fully appreciate how massive the result really was for the CPL Champs. For now, though, the drama of the game itself takes centre stage.
Daniel Krutzens 92nd-minute penalty was the latest in a slew of magical moments that have defined this club in its very brief history, as they continue to leap hurdle after hurdle.
In the immediate aftermath of the full-time whistle, coach Bobby Smyrniotis wasnt yet able to fully describe the gravity of the situation, but the emotion in the Forge locker-room came through loud and clear.
We love this sport, he quipped. We love being out here representing our club, and doing it in Concacaf. The respect weve gained in this region is tremendous over this last two years, the competitive nature of these games has been fantastic.
The bout with Tauro certainly was competitive, as was the previous encounter with El Salvadors Club Deportivo Municipal Limeo. Tuesdays affair in Panama City saw much of the game played in transition, with players constantly having to shift from attack to defence as both sides constantly fought to win balls.

Despite heat, humidity, and a rough pitch that had been torn apart in recent days by thunderstorms (although it looked much better this time than during the Concacaf League game it hosted last week), Forge managed to withstand a track meet of a game against a fast, skilled team.
To be honest, it sometimes wasnt our best week of training, just staying sharp, Smyrniotis revealed. The one thing I told the guys is were as fit as weve ever been. The one thing I have not worried about is these guys fitness.
He continued to commend his players even further; as coach, Smyrniotis gets plenty of credit for masterfully planning for opponents, but he pointed out that the players still have to execute.
Sometimes as a coach you can have this plan, you can have the guys prepared, but you need the players to believe in it, he said. I think thats the biggest thing we have in this group: they believe in it.
Now, its onward to well, we dont know where yet. For the first time ever, Forge will have to wait for the results of another game to find out who their next Concacaf League opponent is.
What we do know is theyll be travelling either to Jamaica to play Waterhouse FC, or to Haiti for a clash with Arcahaie FC. Those two sides play on Thursday for the right to host Forge in the quarter-finals.
It wont be lost on Forge that the quarter-final will also present an opportunity to qualify for the 2021 Concacaf Champions League a win there (or, for that matter, in a consolation match against a fellow quarter-final loser) and theyd be in the continents premier club competition.
Until the path forward is a little clearer, though, Forge can savour a moment like this. They dont come around very often.
Today we played an excellent opponent in Tauro, this was an excellent team with a rich history in Concacaf, with a rich history in this competition, Smyrniotis said.
Were happy to have gotten this win, and we hope we can keep on writing some of these magical moments for our city, for our club, for our supporters.

Cell phones tend to get a bad rap. Theyre blamed for keeping us up at night andinterfering with our relationships. But contrary to what the Internet may lead you to believe, that tiny screen is helping us with a whole heck of a lot these days when it comes to wellness. According to Jennifer Haythe, MD, a New York City-based board-certified cardiologist (who also happens to be an avid marathon runner) its the most important piece of tech for fitness that she relies on every day.
I love to run and my favorite tech is pretty simple: My iPhone equipped with the RunGo and Strava apps, she says. RunGo lets me map out a run wherever I am with mileage and even suggests routes that work for my desired distance, and Strava lets me know my pace, splits, and elevation. These apps are both easily available in the iTunes store, and make logging miles a cinchonce theyre downloaded, all you have to do is keep your phone with you while you run. RunGo gives you the option of being voice coached through your route, so you never have to worry about getting lost, and Strava measures your performance and allows you to share it with a community of other runners using the app.
Shop now: Apple iPhone 12, $884
In addition to the data that these running apps deliver, the iPhone puts some other pretty important health intel in the palm of your hands. Its built-in Health app allows you to track your daily activity (aka your steps), your menstrual cycle, and your bedtime. For more intensive information, you can connect it to an activity trackerlike an Apple Watch or FitBitor to third-party phone apps that transmit their data directly into your health dashboard, giving you a full picture of your nutrition (MyFitnessPal), sleep (SleepCycle), and mindful minutes (Breathe). In other words, from the same screen where you can stalk your exes, you can also gain a full picture of your health metrics.
So while doom scrolling in bed when you should be sleeping isnt great for your health (Seriously! Turn on the Bedtime function immediately), there are plenty of other ways to use your iPhone for the sake of your wellbeing. A cardiologist says so.
Dr. Jen is also a fan of the Apple Watch. Check out the video below to see what she has to say about it.

‘By Counting Macros And Weightlifting To Train For A Fitness Competition, I Lost 140 Pounds’ – Women’s Health
![](https://www.dgw.tv/wp-content/themes/elegant-brit-b/images/caticon.gif)
![](https://www.dgw.tv/wp-content/themes/elegant-brit-b/images/comicon.gif)
My name is Kyleigh Osterloh (@kyleighlosesit), and I'm 26 years old. Im from Gladbrook, Iowa, and I work as a customer service representative. I began to feel like my weight was holding me back, so I started counting macros and strength training to lose weight.
Growing up, I was always overweight and the "bigger" girl in my friend group. As I got older, my weight kept going up. I found myself drinking and eating my emotions instead of taking action to make a change. I kept partying, going out to eat, and driving through fast food places. I would start a diet that would last a week if I was lucky, then I was right back to my normal habits.
I tried every single diet/pill/shake out there and nothing worked for me. I needed to take control of my life and my health. I was 24 years old and it was getting hard to even go on walks. I was also starting to get bad knees that would dislocate when I would move the wrong way on them. I was sick of feeling stuck in my body. At my heaviest, I weighed 350 pounds.
I knew I needed something that was going to work for me long term. I knew I really needed to research my options. I had a few friends who had luck with macro-counting and talked with them about it.

I found a trainer, Maddie Oakey, who does custom macro assessments and one-on-one training through the Strong Daily app. She was able to help me start counting macros and guide me in the gym. I have continued my work with her during my journey. As soon as I signed up with my trainer I knew exercise was going to also play a big role in getting my life on the right track.
The gym scared me so much. The thought of putting myself out there had me sitting in my car giving myself a pep talk to just walk in. Working with a trainer helped me overcome these fears.

My routine consists of about five days at the gym lifting, with an active cardio day and a rest day every week too.
Lifting is one of those things that initially made me think I would not lose weight because Id be building muscle, but I was wrong. I really love lifting weights and pushing myself to lift even heavier. All of my love of lifting allowed me to compete in my first fitness competition, Summer Shredding Classic, which I just completed recently!

You can do it too. It doesnt happen overnight, but if you keep staying consistent, you will see change. I never, ever thought I would be where I am now. But it happened, two years and counting.
There is no way I am giving up now either. There is so much more to accomplish. This new life I have gained has changed my outlook and given me so much confidence. It has brought amazing people into my life, and most of all it has given me the opportunity to help and inspire women who were once where I was.

You know what they say about the company you keep The same thing goes for the food you keep. And that's especially true when it comes to weight loss. The food you store in your fridge and pantry can either be your greatest allies or your worst enemies. That's because changing your diet is the most effective way to shed pounds, so making sure you have healthy foods available at a moment's notice will make your weight loss journey much smoother.
There's one food group in particular that you should keep in your pantry at all times to help you lower the number on the scale. Best of all, they're shelf-stable, last for years, and are scientifically proven to help you lose weight: dry beans, also known as pulses.
Yes, that's right! Boring beans are surprisingly fat-burning weapons, and adding them to your diet can make a significant difference in your weight in as little as six weeks.
(Related: 8 Grocery Items That May Soon Be in Short Supply.)
A meta-analysis of all available clinical trials on the effects of eating pulses published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed that adding just 3/4 cup of beans to your diet every day for six weeks can help you lose 0.75 pounds. While it sounds like a modest amount, that nearly one-pound weight loss is a result of making no other changes to your diet (not even cutting out your favorite desserts!) or lifestyle. Not bad.
Another study that looked at the dietary habits of Americans found that bean-eaters had healthier diets overall. Relative to non-consumers, bean consumers had higher intakes of dietary fiber and micronutrients such as potassium, magnesium, iron, and copper. Bean enthusiasts also had a lower body weight and a smaller waist size relative to those who don't stock their pantry with beans. While having a smaller waist size is one thing, there's another benefit of eating beans: consuming them also helps to reduce your risk of increasing your waist size over time.
Story continues
While we recommend keeping beans in your pantry to lose weight, that's not the only benefit you'll reap from having this food on hand. Some scientifically-backed benefits of eating beans include reducing low-density lipoprotein (LDL, or "bad") cholesterol, favorably affecting risk factors for metabolic syndrome, and reducing the risk of ischemic heart disease and diabetes.
Beans are also one of the best sources of fiber, which has been deemed a nutrient of concern as 95% of Americans don't eat enough of it. Dietary fiber can reduce hunger, enhance satiety, lower cholesterol, balance blood sugar, promote a healthy digestive system, as well as assist with weight loss. In fact, a small study tracked participants as they increased the fiber in their diets from 16 grams to 28 grams per day. Over the course of 4 weeks, participants either ate 1.5 cups of beans per day or other high-fiber foods such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. There was no difference in results between the two groups; however, both groups decreased their caloric intake by 300 calories per day, lost 3 pounds, and reported feeling less hungry and more fullall in just 4 weeks!
Canned beans will provide the same benefits as described above, but dried beans are pantry staples that are even cheaper, last longer, and are easier to buy in bulk.
Dried beans do not require refrigeration and are safe indefinitely, according to the USDA. Canned beans typically have a shorter shelf lifebetween 2 to 5 yearsbut the USDA notes that if cans are in good condition (no dents, swelling, or rust) and have been stored in a cool, clean, dry place they are also safe indefinitely.
So either storage form you choose, dried or canned, beans can outlast most foods in your pantry, making them a food group that's worth having in your pantry at all times to support your weight loss efforts. Kelly Osbourne Reveals Reason behind Her Dramatic 85 Lbs Weight Loss – AmoMama
![](https://www.dgw.tv/wp-content/themes/elegant-brit-b/images/caticon.gif)
![](https://www.dgw.tv/wp-content/themes/elegant-brit-b/images/comicon.gif)
In celebration of her birthday, Kelly Osbourne opted for an inspirational message instead of focusing on updates of her party, which even had its own red carpet for the event.
Reality star Kelly Osbourne showed off her massive weight loss while celebrating her 36th birthday.Even thoughshe looked fabulous, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne's daughter couldn't help but share what made her transformation possible.
HollyGold Productions sponsored Kelly's birthday party held at the Yamashiro Hollywood restaurant. The 36-year-old wore a form-fitting cut-out dress in black for the evening, and it only highlighted her amazing 85-pound weight loss.
KELLY'S MESSAGE TO FANS
Apart from a few pictures shared on her Instagram Stories, Kelly didn't postmuch about her party, but in one update, she noted how unreal her weight loss still felt when looking at pictures of herself in the stunning black dress.
Alongside a slideshow of pictures taken during her birthday party, Kelly said that it took "hard work" to get to a place where she could accept herself "deep down" for who she is, and that is when a "beautiful thing" happened. Changing the reason she wanted to lose weight changed everything.
"This time... I did not lose weight anyone but myself, and it feels great!!! If you, too, are on a path of transformation before you do anything... you have to learn to love yourself. I love you guys so much ," Kelly wrote.
WHY SHE IS KEEPING OFF THE POUNDS
While it's not the first time Kelly dropped a lot of weight, she is determined to keep it off this time, and her new approach to her health is what makes it possible, as she reportedly said during an interview last year:
"Once I learned how to work out right and eat right, its one of those things that you just have to commit to a life change rather than being on a diet."
When Kelly appeared in "Dancing With the Stars" in 2009, she lost a fair amount of weight but every pound came back. Three years later, the 36-year-old tried another approach by going vegan. She added hikes to her workout routine, and in conjunction with her changed diet, the pounds fell off consistently.
WHY SHE'S REJECTING SOME ROMANTIC INTEREST
Now that Kelly looks amazing, she is getting a lot of attention from the opposite sex. However, even though she had shown interest in some of them in the past, Kelly revealed that she ended up rejecting quite a few of the possible suitors, and for one important reason.
After her gastric sleeve surgery, Kelly appeared on "The Talk" alongside her mom, Sharon Osbourne, and said that she is only interested in men that see her for the person she is inside. Those who previously said that she's "great" but "too fat" got in instant pass after showing interest in her again.
BIRTHDAY WISHES FROM MOM AND DAD
Mom Sharon Osbourne made sure to send her daughter a sweet message on her birthday, as did dad Ozzy alongside a picture taken of the father-and-daughter pair.
Sharon wished her "angel" a happy birthday with a cute video bedazzled with animated heart emojis. In the video, Kelly still rocked red hair while Sharon lovingly hugged her daughter.
