This Firefighter Doubles as a Fitness InstructorHeres What She Eats To Fuel Her Body – Well+Good

Ever wondered what a CrossFit champion eats for breakfast? Or how a spin instructor powers themselves through multiple classes a day? Or how an Olympic gymnast snacks? Food Diaries takes you on an inside journey through the healthy eating habits of athletes at the top of their games because, admit it, youre curious. See More

Amanda Newhall, 31, knew she wanted to be a firefighter when she was 12 years old, the year that two planes crashed into the World Trade Center buildings. I was in middle school at the time and remember following the news coverage in the days that followed, and something just sort of clicked for me, she says.

It was an ambition that stuck with her throughout school and now into adulthood. I joined Explorers, which is essentially junior firefighting through the Boy Scouts of America. You make uniforms to wear and go on ride-alongs with local firefighters, she says. When she was 19, she got hired as a volunteer firefighter in Healdsburg, California, where she now works full-time.

Being a firefighter is always an intense job, but this years wildfires ravaging much of the Westincluding Sonoma County, where she workshave proved to be additionally challenging. Its affecting our whole city; we really cant get a break, Newhall says. The summers are always very hectic because of the wildfires and the wildfire season seems to last later and later every year. Mother Nature hasnt told us when it will end this year yet.

In addition to being a firefighter, Newhall is also a fitness instructor with FireFlex Yoga, a wellness program for first responders. A lot of the moves [in yoga] mimic what you actually have to do as a firefighter, like deep squats on and off the firetruck, she says. She adds that its also recovery-based, which helps soothe first responders muscles from the wear and tear they inevitably put their bodies through just by doing their jobs. Fire stations buy into the FireFlex program and then an instructor comes to the station and leads the team through a workout on a regular basis. Newhall hasnt been able to go to other stations to teach thanks to COVID-19, but shes enjoying teaching her own team.

Being both a firefighter and fitness instructor means Newhall has to fuel her body properly, and she says its especially important for her to pay attention to what she eats because she has a rare metabolic disorder called phenylketonuria [PKU]. Its a rare DNA defect that affects her bodys ability to break down the amino acid phenylalanine. I have a pretty mild case of it, but it affects the way I eat because I have to limit my protein intake. Otherwise [amino acids from the protein] will just float around in my bloodstream.

Thus, while many people are focused on high-protein everything, Newhall has to be particularly mindful of her intake. Each day, she eats 25 grams of protein from a supplemental formula designed for people who have PKU, and gets an additional 35 grams of protein through food. (The average person as active as Newhall should get a recommended 75 grams a day.)

Typically for breakfast, I have my protein formula and some cashew nut yogurt, Newhall says. She loves that its portable enough to take to work or on a hikewhich is one of her favorite day-off activities. I like having a breakfast that wont slow me down, she says.

Watch the video below to see what a registered dietitian thinks of plant-based yogurt:

For lunch, Newhall likes either having a big salad or soupdepending on what shes in the mood for that day. Whole grains are a big part of my diet, so thats typically incorporated in some way, she says. But she adds that during the day she tends to eat pretty light because her body absorbs carbohydrates at a slower rate than the average person and she doesnt want it to slow her down.

If she gets hungry between lunch and dinner, Newhall says she likes to snack on dried mangoespecially on days when shes out hiking. Like cashew nut yogurt, its also really portable, so she can put some in a resealable bag, throw it in her backpack, and munch on it whenever hunger strikes.

Newhall says evening meals are a big deal at the firehouse. Its the part of the day where everyone comes together to sit around the table and share a meal. (Unless they get called to an emergency, of course.) Everyone takes turns cooking and Newhall says it can get pretty complicated because there are so many different types of eaters at her station. A lot of the guys I work with are big meat eaters and want to go full-on carnivore, but then someone else may be doing Whole30 or another specific type of eating plan, she says.

When its her turn to cook, Newhall says she likes to incorporate Chinese, Japanese, and Thai flavors into her cooking. I like making soba noodles with a creamy cashew nut sauce or a stir-fry with cauliflower rice and veggies, she says.

Newhall says she usually skips dessert because she doesnt have much of a sweet toothwith one exception. There are these glazed doughnuts with a unicorn made out of frosting on them and I just love them, she says. My boyfriend will surprise me with one about once a week and its always a nice surprise.

What is the Okinawa Diet and How Could It Help You Live Longer? – The Beet

Located in the Pacific Ocean, Okinawa Island is the biggest of the Okinawa Islands and the Ryukyu (Nansei) Islands of Japan. Its breathtakingly beautiful, but thats not what its best known for. Rather, as a celebrated Blue Zonean area of the world where people lead the longest, healthiest livesOkinawa is renowned for having the highest prevalence of centenarians. Their diet, along with lifestyle habits and exercise, plays a large role in that, of course. And no surprises here, but its mostly vegan.

Bansari Acharya, MA, RD,breaks this way of eating down for us, which traditionally focuses on vegetables, especially sweet potatoes, and soy foods. The Okinawa diet is generally low in calories, but high in complex carbohydrates. The philosophy of the Okinawa diet resides on the mentality that food is medicine, which explains their high use of beneficial spices and herbs in their diets, explains Acharya, noting that meat and seafood only constitute about 1-2% of the island inhabitants traditional diet. For Okinawans, tea is also a regular part of the routine of daily life (and something we definitely have come to savor more amidst these long months of hunkering down at home).

Along with a diet that is rich in complex carbohydrates, the diet also puts a great deal of importance on physical activity and mindful eating, which provides further benefits, adds Acharya.

So how, precisely, may this plant-forward diet contribute to blowing out 100 candles on the proverbial birthday cake? One of the reasons the Okinawa diet may help with longevity is the high antioxidant content. Plant-based foods, including the sweet potato, are high in antioxidants and protect against disease to extend life, shares Jinan Banna, Ph.D., RD, referencing this 2016 study.

In addition, [the] caloric restriction also likely contributes to longevity in Okinawa, though the biological basis for this is still being researched, Banna also notes, pointing to this 2014 study on caloric restriction and healthy aging in Okinawa.

Echoing Acharya and Bannas sentiments, Amanda A. Kostro Miller, RD, LDN, who serves on the advisory board for Fitter Livingpraises its virtues: When we compare it to our Westernized diet of high-calorie, high-fat and protein-focus, we eat very differently than the traditional Okinawa people. The main health benefits of this diet are its high vegetable focus for vitamins, minerals, and fiber. It also aims to consume little to no processed foods and refined carbs, she comments, also drawing attention to the fact that Okinawa island residents also strive for plenty of daily physical activity, whether thats tending to a garden or going for a long walk.

Along with these positives, Kostro Miller readily admits that there can be some drawbacks to the Okinawan diet (especially, one would infer, for Westerners merely adapting the food components of the diet but dont mimic the same social rituals and lifestyle habits of the Okinawans). Namely, she calls out the traditional diet lacking certain food groups like adequate amounts of fruits and whole grains. While the Okinawa diet definitely has the right idea, modern-day people can take the same principles and add in even more nutrition so they have a plant-based, well-rounded diet, Kostro Miller offers.

Despite its potential drawbacks, you dont need to tell us twice to load up on sweet potatoes with a miso-mustard glaze for dinner, accompanied by a hearty salad and a savory wedge of tofu. At the end of the day, as Banna aptly puts it, the Okinawa Diet is associated with a decreased risk for chronic disease, and we have much to learn from this pattern in the West. Now, if only we had a backyard and room for a garden.

James May Fell Ill After Starvation Diet On Holiday With Partner Last Month – Grand Tour Nation

James May may have been just filming in Scotland alongside Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond, but only last month, The Grand Tour presenter fell ill after he and his partner were forced into a starvation diet while on holiday.

The ex-Top Gear presenter doesnt usually share too much about his private life with his partner Sarah Frater, but in a recent interview he did with Jay Rayner on the Out To Lunch Podcast, he gave away information that had us worrying about his health while staying in Germany for Fraters birthday.

While at a health retreat, May was put on a starvation diet, which was mostly taken up by middle-aged and fairly wealthy people, he admitted. The podcast, which takes place over a meal, heard May question how much he was actually allowed to eat during the recording.

Ok, how much of this am I supposed to eat? he asked.

Well, were just having lunch mate, Jay replied. If you went, Well, Ive already eaten. Then Ill obviously be furious.

James says I dont know if I should admit to having just spent a week at a health farm in Germany.

Not my idea, it was Sarahs my other half. Shes always wanted to do it.

May started to explain: I take her away in September around her birthday and we normally go on a cultural European city break and look at art galleries and do a lot of eating and wine drinking.

It was clear in the initial medical consultation when the doctor arrived, he thought, Ah! Theres actually something we can work on,' James laughed.

They immediately put me on a starvation diet. All I could do was chew a herbal infusion.

He continued: Sarah sat there having the food that they do and its fairly simple in small portions.

So I had to chew tea for two days and I had to do this liver detox Im not sure your listeners are going to want to hear this.

She wanted to try a [health] clinic for a week and I did it. It made me ill to be honest.

James went on: You go in [to the clinic] and you get the impression its full of middle-aged, probably fairly wealthy people who have absolutely nothing wrong with them.

But they feel more virtuous because theyve gone for a detox or whatever.

He then started to explain the side effects of such a violent change in diet.

After two days, I had a belting headache and could hardly see anymore. I was faint and trembling with hunger and I went to them, This is ridiculous. Im on holiday and youve made me ill. Youre going to have to give me some food.

And they went, Very well.'

He then explains how he tried to order a chicken curry, but this was met with disdain.

Fortunately for fans, he made a full recovery and was able to film in Scotland with no hiccups. We look forward to seeing the result of last weeks filming.

We need to care less about Rebel Wilson’s weight loss. But we never will – Stuff.co.nz

OPINION: The only time Ive actually ever wanted to punch someone is the time when I got off stage after my first burlesque set and a woman said to me: God, its so nice to see a big girl up there on stage being sexy.

I know she meant it as a compliment. She was in the Ive-had-three-too-many-$8-wines stage where some women get both over-complimentary and unintentionally bitchy. And it took every iota of self-restraint that I had to smile, say thank you and bolt backstage before crying.

I was size 14 at the time, and weighed precisely 89 kilograms. (And I know that fat is a relative scale, and for some people thats not even overweight, while for others that makes me a soggy human dumpling.)

Graham Denholm/Getty Images

The public reaction to Rebel Wilsons weight loss highlights the contradictory views many of us hold simultaneously: we want to celebrate fuller-figured beauty, but we also want to be skinny, writes Verity Johnson.

Id started burlesque because I hated how I looked, I knew I should love it, and I also knew I didnt know how to fix that disparity. And the fact that it took me six months to get back on stage made me realise how much work I had to do.

READ MORE:* Rebel Wilson shares an update on her weight loss 'goal' as she continues her 'year of health'* Adele's birthday post reared an uncomfortable obsession ... again* How about a rom-com where a woman who's not rail-thin is attractive even when she's not concussed?

I thought about that moment this week when watching our collective reactions to Rebel Wilsons weight loss. Its a repeat of what happened with Adele a few months ago. And Susan Boyle and Khloe Kardashian and Kelly Osbourne ... and basically any woman larger than a size 8 who manages to break through into mainstream celebrity only to have the audacity to drop size.

They lose weight and we lose our minds.

(And I can tell you this from working inside a news organisation: celebrity weight loss stories go off. Trump may have Covid, the election may be less than a fortnight away, and Lake hau has been ravaged by a fire, what we really cared about was Rebel Wilsons get-fit phase.)

The most traditional, deeply flawed response to her weight loss is to congratulate her. We love the spectacle of the fat clown turned hot clown. We crave the smooth, inspirational, incremental improvement of the female body as she drops dress sizes.

Partly because culturally weve still got very narrow beauty standards that say that thinner equals better. But also because theres something impressive for many people about weight loss as an easy, understandable symbol of how much humans can improve themselves through willpower. As the kids would say, its a problematic fave.

And then theres the other equally irritating response that people have to her weight loss, which is to bemoan her decision as letting down the body positivity movement.

When she rose to fame as a rare example of a glamorous, gorgeous, certified star who was also plus size, we made her a fuller-figured figurehead. We loved her for being big, exactly as my drunken backhanded commentator was trying to say, and we celebrated her for almost doing us a public service in showing us that sexiness doesnt have a size.

But now were grumpy because shes supposed to be happy being fat.

Robert Kitchin/Stuff

Verity Johnson: Whatever she does, [Wilson] cant win. Wouldnt it be heavenly if she could lose weight and us not care?

This expectation on her directly contradicts the reality that nearly all women hold deeply tangled, contradictory and knotty feelings about their own bodies. Many genuinely celebrate fuller-figured beauty, but we also still want to be skinny.

Likewise I was both flattered and deeply humiliated to be a plus-sized poster girl. And this isnt necessarily proof we dont believe in plus-size beauty, rather that we hold deeply felt but utterly contradictory views simultaneously.

So, as soon as Rebel Wilson shows that she also has these deeply human feelings, that she may have been proudly plus-size for years but now she wants to lose weight, we tell her off for not fitting with the ideological narrative weve written all over her.

The depressing reality is that all of these responses enthusiasm, curiosity, disappointment, gawking theyre all nonsense. Whatever we do, were still making her fleshy pocket a symbol of public morality, either to celebrate it for conforming to conventional beauty standards, or to complain that its failing to conform to #selfacceptance doctrine.

Whatever she does, she cant win. Wouldnt it be heavenly if she could lose weight and us not care?

If our response could be the actual, neutral body-acceptance that says, Do whatever you want with your pocket of flesh. But our enduring obsession with stories like hers, through the skinny tea decades and now the #selfacceptance years, shows thats never going to happen.

We cant not take a womans body and make it an ideological battleground for our own tangled, frustrated, insecure notions of size and self-worth.

Why you may not be losing weight on the keto diet – Report Door

If you arent losing weight on the keto diet, you may not be following it correctly.

Shutterstock

Most people who do the keto diet will lose weight, but you have to follow it strictly and be in a calorie deficit to make it work.

Over time, you may hit a keto plateau where you will stop losing weight, even while following the same diet.

Even if you dont lose weight, a slightly higher number on the scale may not always be a bad sign if you are gaining muscle.

This article was reviewed bySamantha Cassetty, MS, RD, nutrition and wellness expert with a private practice based in New York City.

Visit Insiders homepage for more stories.

The keto diet is a popular way to lose weight and improve health. But not everyone loses weight on keto, and some stop losing weight after a few months.

If you arent meeting your weight goals on the ketogenic diet, you may need to make some adjustments or talk with a registered dietitian. Here are some reasons why you might not be losing weight on keto.

The main purpose of the ketogenic diet is to send your body into ketosis. Ketosis is a state where your metabolism shifts from burning carbohydrates for fuel to fat cells, instead.

However, it can take a lot of careful planning to put your body into ketosis. And it wont happen immediately. It can take anywhere from two to seven days of extreme carb restriction to reach ketosis.

You can check to see if you are really in ketosis using at-home urine test strips. These strips detect ketones, substances your liver creates when processing fat.

However, being in ketosis is not going to make you lose weight if you are still taking in too many calories, says Scott Keatley, RD, a dietitian at Keatley Medical Nutrition Therapy.

Losing weight on the keto diet is like losing weight on any diet you need to burn more calories in the day than you consume.

The restriction does not need to be extreme, but you should be at a caloric deficit.

Being in ketosis makes this a little easier since with the right foods it can reduce your appetite so youre less hungry and therefore, less likely to overeat.

Story continues

Some foods to eat on keto that will help you feel full are:

Fiber-rich, low-carb vegetables like leafy greens, broccoli, and asparagus

Lean, protein-packed meat like seafood and poultry.

Healthy fatty foods like avocados, nuts, and seeds.

However, if youre still having trouble controlling your caloric intake, here are some tips:

Replace any sugary drinks you might have with flavored water.

Measure out snacks beforehand so you dont unconsciously consume too much.

Track your calories with one of Insider Reviews best weight loss apps.

If you restrict calories too much to less than 1,200 per day for the average adult this can also slow your weight loss goals. Because when you dont eat enough it can send your body into starvation mode, where your metabolism slows down and you may stop losing weight.

Numerous studies indicate a strong link between stress and obesity. Part of the reason could be related to the fact that stress increases levels of the stress hormone cortisol in your body, which leads to enhanced appetite and potentially overeating and subsequent weight gain.

Some simple ways to relieve stress include:

Exercising regularly

Getting more sleep

Connecting with loved ones

The Department of Health and Human Services recommends adults complete at least 150-300 minutes of moderate exercise per week. Physical activity is important for many reasons, including maintaining a healthy weight.

Regular exercise can also help reduce stress levels, boosting your chances of appetite control and weight loss. Some tips to maintaining a regular workout routine include:

Choose a workout regimen you enjoy.

Find a workout partner(s) to hold you accountable.

Make long-term goals to work toward.

Even if you are keeping your metabolism up, your weight loss may still slow down over time. As you cut calories and lose weight, your body will adapt to the change and start needing fewer calories to keep itself going, says Keatley. In other words, people tend to hit a weight loss plateau.

However, Keatley says that you should not use the scale as your only measure of progress. Lean muscle is denser than fat, so burning fat and building muscle can actually lead to a slight weight increase. The scale may freak you out when the change happening is positive, Keatley says.

There are certain medical conditions that are associated with weight gain, making it exceptionally difficult to lose weight. Many of these conditions are hormonal disorders like Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), diabetes, Cushings syndrome, and hypothyroidism.

Cutting carbs on the keto diet can lead to rapid weight loss. But if youre not losing weight, make sure youre in ketosis, not eating too many calories, and are controlling your stress levels.

If youre considering trying the keto diet to lose weight, Keatley says, I would advise anyone thinking of a keto diet to talk to their doctor and a dietitian before, during, and after.

’90 Day Fianc’ Tell All: Angela Reveals She’s Getting Weight Loss Surgery and Michael Is Not Happy – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Angela Deem surprised Michael Ilesanmi during the 90 Day Fianc: Happily Ever After Tell All reunion. She told her husband that she planned on getting weight loss surgery. But Michael was not happy with the news, and he begged Angela to reconsider.

On the 2020 season of 90 Day Fianc: Happily Ever After, Angela headed back to Nigeria to marry Michael. Despite their usual relationship hiccups, the two reality stars wed in a beautiful ceremony with Michaels friends and family in attendance.

Angelas family, including her kids, grandkids, and elderly mom, could not make the long trip. But her best friend Jojo flew to Nigeria to support Angela and serve as a witness at the wedding.

RELATED: 90 Day Fianc Star Angela Deem Reveals the Reason She and Michael Ilesanmi Are Still Not Together

Angela left Nigeria soon after the wedding when her mother fell ill. She has filed for a spousal visa for Michael and is currently waiting for it to be processed.

On season 3 of 90 Day Fianc: Before the 90 Days, Angela decided to get fillers and Botox because she wanted to look younger for Michael. I want to look as fresh as I can and maybe a little younger. OK, maybe a lot younger, Angela said in a confessional. Im getting Botox to impress my fianc Michael.

But in a recent interview with ET, the reality star noted that Michael isnt on board with her getting any physical enhancements. And she said he prefers her to stay just the way she is.

Honestly, Michael just wants me to be me, Angela explained. Like he doesnt want me to lose weight. He likes me with weight. But you know, being older, I want to feel good about myself, so I can make myself feel good when Im around him in public when he gets to the U.S.

During the recent season-end 90 Day Fianc: Happily Ever After Tell All special, Angela finally told Michael about her plans for weight loss surgery. I didnt want to bring this up in front of Michael, Im going to have weight loss surgery, she said, to which Michael repeatedly responded no.

After the third month, Ill drop about a hundred and something pounds, Angela added. Everything will be reconstructed. My skin surgery, Im gonna have it all done.

But Michael was not happy to hear the news. He pleaded with his wife to reconsider her decision.

She knows I dont like anything surgery, Michael said. Like, no doing this artificial stuff. I dont like it.

But Angela explained that her surgery wouldnt just be about the looks. Its annoying to be out of breath, she said. When you know you gained 20 pounds in two months from sitting around here, eating everything the kids eat.

Michael insisted he wouldnt ever complain about Angelas body, and pleaded with her to avoid the procedure. Angela noted that because Michael is in Nigeria, he couldnt do anything to stop her. But to appease him, she suggested their sex life would get better.

You gotta feel sexy to be sexy, right? Angela suggested. We have great sex now, Michael. But can you imagine with a hundred pounds off? Ill flip you upside down.

Weight loss story: ‘I lost 9.5 kilos in just 2.5 months and my husband was my biggest supporter!’ – Times of India

When you embark on a weight loss journey, you realise that it does not happen overnight and you have to work really hard. When 32-year Nilofar, who is a nurse by profession, realised that she needed to lose weight to get healthy, she completely devoted herself to the journey. In a span of just 2.5 months, she lost a whopping 9.5 kilos. Here is her inspiring weight loss journey. Name: Nilofar Keshvani SutarOccupation: NurseAge: 32 years

Height: 5 feet 8 inches

City: London

Highest weight recorded: 68 kg

Weight lost: 9.5 kg

Current weight: 57.3 kg

Duration it took me to lose weight: 2.5 monthsThe turning point: While I wasn't unhappy or even remotely upset with the way I looked or with my weight, I did realise that if I gained a few more kilos, then I would be considered obese. Also, unwanted and unsolicited rude comments about my weight really affected me. However, it was only for the sake of my health that I decided to lose weight and get back in shape. I did not look back since the day I decided to lose weight!

My breakfast: I used to have a high-fiber and high protein breakfast like oats, moong dal chilla, poha or besan chilla. I also had a cup of tea but without sugar with my breakfast.

My lunch: A small bowl of curry, 1 chapatti and 1 small bowl of rice.

My dinner: I used to choose between salads, soups, quinoa khichdi, buckwheat pula, dal and boiled moong and chana.

Pre-workout meal: A glass of lukewarm water with two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar.

Post-workout meal: I had my breakfast as I worked out in the morning. I indulge in: Definitely pizza and handmade chicken biryani! In desserts, I prefer cakes.

My workout: My workout routine consisted of the following exercises:

1. Walking

2.Squats

3.Mountain climbers

4.Zoomba classes

5.Yoga

6.Jumping jacks

Low-calorie recipes I swear by: Quinoa khichdi

Fitness secrets I unveiled: I have learnt that keeping a tab on how much you are eating (the portion of the food) is very important. I always take care of the same. Also, I believe that sipping on green tea has helped in improving my metabolism. How do I stay motivated? Undoubtedly, my husband was my greatest motivator and mentor during my weight loss journey. He was the one who pushed me to lose weight and get back in shape. He told me that I did not have to do it for looks but for good health in the longer term. Also, when I started seeing visible results of my hard work, it further motivated me to lose more weight.

How do you ensure you dont lose focus? I used the weighing machine as my source of motivation and focus during my weight loss journey. Whats the most difficult part of being overweight? It was definitely the body-shaming I faced. People had started commenting rudely like, "Oh, you have put on so much of weight!" or asking questions like, "Are you planning for a second child?" after looking at my tummy. It was very disturbing for me.

What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line? I want to lose more weight in the coming years and become thinner.

Fans Are Now Calling Rebel Wilson "Fit Amy" After She Posts New Instagrams Around Her Weight Loss – GoodHousekeeping.com

Rebel Wilson seems to be shedding more than just pounds in 2020 as she works her way through her "year of health." The 40-year-old Bridesmaids comedian is angling to embrace a new image after rocketing to fame as "Fat Amy" in 2012's Pitch Perfect. The actress has also revealed that her fitness goal is nearly complete on Instagram: She shared a candid workout photo this past week where she added she's just 6 pounds shy of her target weight. Now, Rebel is acknowledging her hard work by having a bit of fun with her fans, who have found inspiration in her continuous updates throughout the year.

This content is imported from Instagram. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

"Just call me: Fit Amy," Rebel joked while sharing a brand new selfie this morning, in a reference to her iconic Pitch Perfect character Patricia Hobart that famously enjoyed the nickname "Fat Amy." Nearly of all her fans immediately caught the reference, with most adding jokes of their own. "She's moving on up from horizontal running!" wrote former Bachelorette Becca Kufrin, while fellow Pitch Perfect co-star Alexis Knapp added "Ayyyy FIT AF PATRICIA! ". Octavia Spencer also showed her support with a string of fire emojis.

While nearly 4,000 followers have chimed in to cheer Rebel on, the actress certainly has earned her updated nickname with her commitment to a new fitness routine. Her most recent Instagram revelation gave followers insight into what an average workout has looked like for Rebel this year. "This week was super busy but I got up super early 3 times (6am) and went on a hike," she shared on Instagram last week. "Even did a couple of 100m sprints to get the heart rate even higher (although my 'sprint' is probably someone else's 'slow jog')."

Rebel has been working with personal trainers throughout the year, according to Women's Health, and she may be relying on high-intensity interval training for results, among other activities. It all began earlier in 2020 when Rebel revealed she was committed to revolutionizing her health via Instagram: "Even if you have to crawl towards your goals, keep going x it will be worth it. Try and give a little bit of effort each day," she shared back in May.

Rebel hasn't been as open on her new diet as she has her fitness routine. She often preaches about snacking in moderation just last week, Rebel shared a Boomerang of her favorite dessert while at an event with the caption "Remember [though] girls, you still gotta treat yourself" but other habits or practices are a bit unclear. She's reportedly working her way through the Mayr Method Diet program, a clinic-based program in Austria that is known to be frequented by celebrities and wellness icons alike. While the program has since spawned a diet book available to anyone, it's most famous principles encourage people to thoroughly chew food, occasionally fast, and is largely based on the Alkaline Diet.

While it seems that the actress is very close to her goal weight of 75 kilograms, about 165 pounds, her journey may be more about the long-term changes in her life. A source tells People magazine that Rebel is enjoying a newfound confidence (which we can totally see for ourselves!) and how her fitness routine makes her feel emotionally: "She has more energy and more confidence, which you can see from her sexier Instagram shots. She's also having fun with new fashion and beauty looks."

6 Steps to Becoming an In Demand Personal Trainer

Are you a fitness enthusiast who wants to take it one step further and become a personal trainer?

If you love helping others, this is a great career to pursue. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the fitness industry's job opportunities will grow by 15 percent between 2019 and 2029 because of greater health awareness.

Follow these steps to chart a path towards success as a personal fitness coach.

Getting a certification is the first step before you begin taking on clients. You dont need a sports medicine degree, but you'll need the right credentials to offer credibility to your clients. It gives them the confidence that you have the qualifications to train them.

When looking where to start, you want to make sure you get the best personal trainer certification possible. Some excellent options are the International Sports Science Association (ISSA) and the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).

Most fitness companies also require you to have safety certificates in first aid, CPRand automatic defibrillators.

Although job opportunities are growing, youll face tough competition. Youll need to show potential clients that you offer more value to them than the others.

Your rsum should showcase your experience. Specializing in nutrition and weight loss programs, injury rehabilitation, or strength training helps.

You might think that serving every need is good for business, but being an expert in specific physical exercise fields will make you stand out from the crowd. People are more likely to choose you over someone who is a generalist.

Youmight want to cater to a specific clientele such assenior citizens, busy soccer moms, people with physicaldisabilities, pregnant women, or athletes. Choose the segment youre passionate about training. When youre happy withwhat you do, your clients will enjoy working out with you too.

After you're certified, you still need to stay ahead of your competition. Youll want to keep abreast of fitness trends, sports medicine advancesand new training methods. Your potential clients are likely aware of these revolutions and are looking for an instructor who can teach them.

Be sure to attend conventions and seminars for personal trainers, read the latest books on fitness trendsand take online courses to gain specialized certification. Know what your market wants and offer it to them.

Getting customers is easy. Your challenge is to retain them for the long term because it costs more to draw new people into your business than to keep them.

To establish a connection with your patrons, ask questions about their current lifestyle, limitationsand what motivates them. Put yourself in their shoes so you can tailor a program thats both enjoyable and helps them achieve their purpose.

Promoting what you offer may sound intuitive, but its a challenge for most business owners. Most of them prefer to outsource that task to a third party so they can focus on what they do best. That may not be financially possible when youre starting, though, so youll need to learn how to do it yourself.

Online advertising has made it more straightforward and inexpensive than the traditional methods. These days, you dont have to pay an ad agency thousands of dollars to create a business campaign. You can do almost everything on your laptop or hire freelancers.

Ideally, familiarizeyourself with social media marketing and use it to build a following. Youre in a very personalized profession and you need to gain the trust of your prospective customers. Use social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter to interact with people and let them get to know you better.

Just dont make the mistake of overselling your service. Instead, provide free and useful information that benefits your followers to establish yourself as an expert.

Remember that you dont need to be the most educated instructor or expert marketer to be successful. While certification and experience are what prospective customers initially look for, what keeps them as longterm clients is the knowledge that you care about them.
