JaxJox’s Modular At-Home Fitness Studio Isn’t As Expensive As You Think (It Is Still Very Expensive) – Gizmodo

In the before times, most people would balk at shelling out thousands of dollars for something like a Peloton, Tonal, or Mirror. Now, if youve got the space and the cash, buying some fitness equipment seems like a decent idea. Which means, its a good time for JaxJox to launch this ridiculous all-in-one modular interactive fitness studio.

The JaxJox InteractiveStudio is fairly compact as far as at-home fitness equipment goes. It consists of a rotating 4K 43-inch touchscreen that doubles as a stand for a connected kettlebell, connected adjustable dumbbells, a digital push-up board, connected vibrating foam roller, and a water bottle. Its roughly 3 feet long, 2.3 feet wide, and 7 feet tallmaking it supposedly half the size of a stationary bike and a third the size of a treadmill. The stand also includes a 20-watt soundbar and can sync with both Spotify and Apple Music.

Like Peloton, the InteractiveStudio also includes an on-demand platform for strength, cardio, and recovery classes. Though, in this case, JaxJox says youll also get personalized workout recommendations via machine learning. Also with the launch of the InteractiveStudio, JaxJox is releasing a newly redesigned app. Because the gadgets in the studio are connected and automatically track your workouts, users will purportedly be able to track peak and average power, reps, sets, time, heart rate, and calories burned in real-time.

Altogether this thing costs $2,200, plus a monthly $40 subscription for the classes and app. Which sounds like a lot, except thats roughly the same cost as a Peloton bike and subscription. Again, the price tag is par for the course for this type of connected fitness equipment, but what makes JaxJoxs offering interesting is that its modular.

G/O Media may get a commission

As in, if you have zero interest in shelling out more than $2,000 at once, you could buy the individual components separately with a reduced app subscription of $13 per month with a free 30-day trial.

The DumbbellConnect, for instance, is a set of two adjustable dumbbells that operate similarly to the companys KettlebellConnect. You basically press a button and in a few seconds, you can adjust the weight of each dumbbell without having to fumble with annoying pegs. Each weight goes from 8-50 pounds in six-pound increments. Separately, the DumbbellConnect is a whopping $450. That egregiously expensive, given dumb adjustable dumbbells can be found for roughly $100-$300, depending on how fancy you want to get. However, considering my roughly $200 not-smart adjustable dumbbells randomly exploded recently due to an errant pin, maybe an electronic version would be nice.

Also new is the $100 Push UpConnect. It looks like a lil pegboard with rotating handles that you can use to alternate between four different types of hand positions (wide-grip, diamond or triangle, etc.) to better target your chest, arms, core, and shoulders. According to JaxJox, the handle grips also stabilize the wrist and help you correct your push-up form, as apparently most of us arent doing them correctly. Supposedly, you also only get credit for pushups done with proper form, which ha, ha, ha.

Meanwhile, JaxJox is also releasing the KettlebellConnect 2.0, an updated version of the one we reviewed a few months ago. It still costs $230, but the main difference with the 2.0 is it now supports real-time data capture and features an updated shell design. The Foam RollerConnect is also already available for $100 and lets you select five different vibration intensities.

Altogether... it sounds not-bad actually given how much Peloton and Tonal cost, though if you were to just buy the four gadgets youd spend $880 with a $13 monthly subscription. (I suppose the stand with the touchscreen is the remaining $1,320? Yeesh.) In any case, expensive as all of JaxJoxs products might be, it is nice to see a modular version of an at-home connected fitness studio that lets you adjust which parts you might want to buy, depending on your homes space constraints or your individual fitness needs. Perhaps other at-home fitness companies could take note.

Colorado Fitness Coalition Fights to Save Lives – GlobeNewswire

Gyms across Colorado join together to form the Colorado Fitness Coalition

All gyms and fitness studios are encouraged to join the Colorado Fitness Coalition to keep people safe and support the state's economic recovery.

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo., Sept. 01, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- There has never been a more critical time to make our collective health a top priority. Thats why fitness leaders across the state of Colorado are setting aside competition and putting lives first. More than 30 elite fitness brands comprised of 175 locations across Colorado have come together to form the Colorado Fitness Coalition (CFC) to fight the spread of COVID-19. The CFC has a unified goal to establish consistent safety protocols that adhere to all State and Public Health Orders across all gyms.

The CFC is a much needed, unified voice for all Colorado fitness, said CFC Advisor, Kelsey Donahue of Orange Theory Fitness. Together, we are working to provide our communities with spaces to safely and consistently improve their physical and mental health. The fitness industry is a crucial part in improving the health and well-being of Colorado citizens and working to stop the spread of COVID-19 across our state. Along with Orange Theory Fitness, gyms including Chuze Fitness, Club Greenwood, Colorado Athletic Club, Corepower Yoga, Planet Fitness and dozens more have already joined the CFC and taken a pledge to keep Coloradans safe while maintaining their physical activity.

While gym leaders have always been passionate about improving fitness and health, their passion has now turned into a purpose of saving lives. Prior to COVID-19 Americans were only getting 25% of the government-recommended dose of exercise each week.* Recent studies suggest exercise isnt just important for those looking to get buff, it may give you a better chance of fighting the disease. Obesity is a risk factor for more severe outcomes with COVID, said Kris Ehresmann, Infectious Disease Director for the Minnesota Department of Health.

Every club that is a member of the CFC agrees to maintain a gold standard in safety, sanitation and security for their associates and members. From the basics of mask wearing, to sanitation stations, physical distancing and electrostatic gun sanitation technology; CFC clubs will go above and beyond to provide and serve. Their hard work is already paying off, and it can benefit all Coloradans. In a large-scale academic study, researchers concluded that there was no virus transmission or increase in COVID-19 disease related to the opening of gym facilities.

CFC member clubs are committed to making a positive impact by keeping Coloradans out of the hospital, encouraging people to move again and supporting the states economic recovery. Consumers should look for the CFC seal at their favorite gym and expect CFC partners to not only inspire and motivate them to lead a healthier lifestyle, but also to follow best practices in preventing the spread of COVID-19 as outlined by the CDC and the State of Colorado.

Gyms across Colorado are invited to join the Colorado Fitness Coalition by visiting coloradofitnesscoalition.org. Coloradans are encouraged to share this link with their local gyms as well.

ABOUT THE COLORADO FITNESS COALITION

The Colorado Fitness Coalition was created in August 2020 for owners/operators of boutiques, studios, health clubs, gyms and recreation centers across the great state of Colorado to unite as one industry dedicated to the safety and well-being of our community, members and staff.

Never before have we realized the important role our facilities can play in the lives of our members as an essential part of their health; physically, mentally and socially. Although gyms are operating with restrictions, we are grateful to be open! Our goal is to work with state and local officials to keep our businesses open and thriving.

Beyond the immediate needs surrounding the current crisis, the CFC will continue to exist and grow beyond the pandemic to embrace other initiatives and ensure our strength and success as an industry in the future.

Fitness and wellness startups in Brazil (beta) – Contxto

Don't worry, we speak : Espaol (Spanish), too!

Contxto Are you part of an HR team and want to make your employees feel more comfortableand if anything more productive? Has quarantine made you feel unproductive? Have you gained weight? Do you want to change your eating habits and your routine?

If you said yes to any of the above, this Market Map is for you. Sure these are startups from Brazil, but the truth is that this South American country is the master of both health and wellness, as well as global and regional expansion in this sector.

It doesnt matter if you are from Mexico, Argentina, or Ireland, you most likely have access to the services of one or more fitness and wellness startups from Brazil.

The diversity of this sector is extensive. You can find everything from corporate startups, to training apps, personal development, and physical education.

In fact, the wellness vertical is so broad that we already have a Market Map about mental health in Brazil.

In this case, we are referring primarily to physical healthwhich is closely tied to mental health, we know. But in this case, the startups we are seeing are primarily focused on exercise, physical education, and nutrition.

It is interesting to see how the most dominant business model is business-to-business (B2B). The story of Brazils most famous fittech, Gympass, explains why this is the case.

One could say that wellness is the bridge that connects physical and mental health. Its a bit like yogato which many of these apps allow their users to access.

Consider, for example, OMMBe, a marketplace where you can find a network of professionals that practice various types of therapy throughout Brazil.

And then there is Tech.fit, which allows its users to transform their bodies by creating good physical, mental and nutritional habits.

The Best And Cheapest Fitness App Subscription Ive Found For Home Workouts – Forbes

Thousands and thousands of classes - including tons of yoga - are included for a low monthly fee on ... [+] the app.

Ever since the global coronavirus pandemic began, the interest in working out at home has exploded, due to both the closing of gyms and fitness studies and the fact that so many people are staying home. Sales of all kinds of home fitness equipment, from weights to aerobic machines, have increased dramatically, and so has demand for virtual classes.

Personally, I miss going to the yoga studio, and have tried several virtual alternatives for home-based classes. For every kind of specialty - especially yoga - there are myriad competing apps, but I was already doing in-home cycling classes and have also been tinkering with meditation. There are fewer good apps that span all these different pursuits, and among these, some are free, but the better ones require subscriptions, and this is the classic case of getting what you pay for. Top quality instructors, high production values and a large library of classes dont come cheap, and its hard to find good reliable ones for free.

The Peloton bike offers an awesome home workout - but with the app you can do the great rides on any ... [+] bike.

Thats why I have increasingly used the Peloton app as my one stop shopping resource for whatever kind of workout I want. Admittedly, I already had a Peloton bike, so the app subscription is included in my membership. But its even cheaper if you just get the app than if you have the hardware subscription, and while Peloton makes excellent bikes (they were quickly sold out this spring) and treadmills, you can still get the great classes and use them on any brand of machines. There are also plenty of classes that dont require any machines at all. In addition, if you were to going to any studio classes, the price pales in comparison - unlimited monthly classes cost far less than a single cycling or yoga or fitness session of any kind at most studios. If you do return to the gym or return to the road and hotel fitness centers, you can also use the app there on whatever equipment they have, though better hotels are beginning to stock Peloton bikes.

Peloton has been wildly popular since it began, and the companys business model has always been to hire top instructors and make high quality, studio-filmed classes available to you both live and on demand. Over the years, the library has grown enormously and there are more than ten thousand classes, with more being added all the time. The instructors are generally excellent, but there are also so many in each discipline that you can find a couple of favorites and just stick with them, and conversely, if there is someone you dont like, you never have to do another one of their classes.

There are more than 10 categories of classes, from bootcamp to running.

Peloton has updated and expanded its offerings, which currently includes yoga, meditation, strength training, stretching, running, bootcamp, cardio, and outdoor running classes. All of this is in addition to the industry gold standard for indoor cycling. The outdoor classes for running are different from the treadmill ones, and while most offerings are video, the former are audio-only. Within each category there is a wide range of options for different abilities. In cycling that means classes of greatly varied duration and difficulty, specialties like hill climbs and intervals, even classes led by guest pro cyclists. In yoga it means beginner, intermediate and advanced levels in different styles such as yoga flow and power yoga, plus sub-specialties like restorative and prenatal yoga. The choices really are staggering.

In addition to all the classes, there are general fitness tools such as in-app metrics that let you track your fitness progress, monthly activity and workouts. There are also a lot of great little features built throughout the platform. For example, when selecting a cycling class, you can short by genre of music, and then within any given class review the entire playlist. If you are going to do a 45-minute classic rock ride, it might as well be to songs you like.

Just last month, well regarded tech website TechRadar.com did a ranking of the best home fitness apps, and Peloton was number one. The key factors they cited for rating it so highly were Huge choice of workouts; Live and recorded activities; Indoor and outdoor options; Reasonably priced, and they noted the wide range of supported platforms, including iPhone, iPad, Android, Apple TV, Roku, Chromecast, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, and AirPlay. I do the cycling classes through the bikes built in monitor and the yoga and meditation classes on my Samsung Galaxy phone or a tablet. Its only thirteen dollars a month - after the 30-day free trial. Thats hard to beat!

Moorhead woman finishes third in group for national fitness competition – INFORUM

MOORHEAD Melanie Fierstine is pretty emotional over her showing at the Ms. Health and Fitness competition.

Im in tears over here-verklempt. Im still stunned! she told her Facebook friends, following news that she got third place out of 40 women in her group for the national competition.

Fierstine, a fitness buff and assistant professor, told her story to The Forum earlier this month.

Placements in the competition were dependent upon votes from the public, which makes Fierstine even more grateful. She says shes thankful to everyone who shared posts, told friends, family and complete strangers to vote, and for bringing so much goodness and light when it was needed most.

Its been such a heavy time packed with anxiety, frustration, sadness, and doubt for each of us the past six months when our world is seemingly out of control; yet, you took time each day to vote and cheer me on. I am amazed at the kindness and positive encouragement you have shown me and I am forever grateful to each of you, Firestone wrote on Facebook.

The top five women in each group will now advance to the finals.

Theaters and Fitness Centers May Be Close To Reopening – wbckfm.com

There are indications Democratic Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer may soon be making an announcement about allowing fitness centers and theaters to reopen. The Detroit Free Press got the inside track on the development. Its reporting the announcement could be made at any time. The Free Press reports the word its getting is that the reopening could be set for immediately after the upcoming Labor Day holiday weekend. Similar facilities have been allowed to reopen in the Upper Peninsula and the Northern Lower Peninsula. Some fitness centers have tried bucking the Governors orders. But that only got them stern visits from state workers and in some cases law enforcement officers or State Police with promises of enforcement action. The Free Press says its inside information is coming from the task force which is helping to offer suggestions to the Governor about how to handle business closings and restrictions. The Governor has been under increasing pressure, including new lawsuits about reopening the last group of businesses forced to remain closed.

Agroup of bowling alleys had filed suit against the Governor but then withdrew the case after hearing theyd get a chance to talk with the Governors virus control team about reopening if they dropped the suit. They point out that only a couple of states require bowling alleys to remain closed and theres little if any data showing virus transmission is heightened at a bowling alley or any type of exercise facility for that matter.
