By LAURA WEICK
Robert B. Foster, owner of RBF Fitness and Nutrition in Warwick, noticed that COVID-19 has caused people, especially busy mothers, to lose faith in their abilities. By addressing both ways to get in shape and deal with stress, he hopes to help those stuck at home navigate quarantine and beyond.
Although Foster trains people of all ages, genders and backgrounds, he has tailored one of his programs especially for mothers juggling working from home and taking care of children. Working with mothers has been a focus for Foster before the pandemic, but he found that social distancing during the pandemic has made mothers restless.
What I found with the quarantine is that people are really really frustrated, especially moms with distance learning going on, Foster said. Exercise became an outlet for them. It gave them something more to focus on and it gave them that personal development type stuff instead of just push-ups and squats.
Fosters approach to training begins with what he describes as a pain assessment. He consults clients regarding not just their physical health, but also emotional and mental health. He said many of his clients desires to get in shape are often motivated by issues such as stress and low self-esteem, which the pandemic has intensified among many.
When people want to get into better shape, its usually a deeper reason than I want to lose pounds, Foster said. You want to get deeper into what the pain is. I find the one that really gets deep are the ones who will see the program through, and those that dont fall off.
After determining clients physical and emotional needs, clients learn exercises that work for them. Foster recommends a combination of cardio and strength training depending on the clients abilities and goals.
Foster also has clients write down reasons they have difficulty exercising, and he found that one of the most common excuses is lack of time. He helps clients find gaps in their days so they can workout whenever they are free, even if its just a few 10 minute sessions each day. Foster said that people dont need expensive equipment for a good workout either: hes seen people use household objects like milk jugs or laundry detergent bottles instead of weights and still make progress.
People who are on a tight schedule want to keep it fast-paced, Foster said. Its keeping your body moving, keeping your heart pumping. Even low impact exercises done at a lower intensity give you a cardio effect.
Time management is something Foster knows all too well. Foster was always athletic growing up, and knew he wanted to work in fitness as early as high school. However, he ended up managing a restaurant for 20 years with personal training as a side gig that eventually became full time. As a father of five, he found that working full time in fitness has helped him manage his time better.
Having to work nights and weekends at a restaurant, I missed a lot of stuff, Foster said. The fitness thing started as just for fun in my home, but it grew into something bigger.
Foster also makes dietary recommendations to go with his workouts. He explained that good diets require food with substance instead of empty calories.
One big misconception is that its more expensive to eat healthy, Foster said. But the healthier food is more nutrient dense so you stay fuller longer, so you need less so you buy less. Dont shop too many days in advance, if at all possible. I shop every single day, sometimes twice a day, but that works for my schedule. But if you drop $300 a time, you might buy excess and be prone to overeating.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Foster is offering sessions and classes virtually as well as outdoors, with plans to reopen his indoor facility on 25 Coronado Road this Sunday. He hopes that by gaining strength through workouts, they also gain a sense of self-worth. Those interested in the program can contact Foster at (401)-359-4652 or rob@rbffitness.com. The first week of the program is free, and unlimited classes cost $125 per month.
The practice is open virtually and outdoors from 5:15 a.m. to 10 a.m., and later 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. A full schedule of sessions can be viewed at rbffitness.com. In-person sessions are limited to 15 people for outdoor sessions, and semi-private sessions are limited to up to three people.
Most people when they start with me, they have lower self esteem, but when going through the program its not just weight loss gains, but people feel more confident that they can run again and or can climb that rope, Foster said.

Fitbit’s $329 Sense watch monitors stress response and heart health – Engadget

This feeds into Fitbits renewed focus on helping users track and manage stress, which now goes beyond the guided breathing exercises already available on most of its wearables. The EDA sensor records and shows data on a graph in the Fitbit mobile app alongside the new Stress Management Score, which is yet another all-encompassing number that takes into account heart rate, sleep and activity data. The higher the number, the better your body is doing at physically managing stress. This number will change regularly, and when its on the low side, itll be coupled with advice on how to manage stress, breathing exercises you can do and other resources.
Users will likely be more familiar with the Senses ECG capabilities now that many wearables are trying to incorporate the technology. Fitbits feature works similarly to that on the Apple Watch Series 5: place two fingers on the corners of the Fitbit Sense for 30 seconds and itll take a reading of the electrical signals coming from your heart. ECG measurements have become popular in wearables because they allow a user to get a quick glimpse into their hearts health and possibly learn of early signs of conditions like atrial fibrillation. None of the most popular wearables on the market, including the Fitbit Sense or the Apple Watch, are considered medical devices, but they are capable of providing limited data that a user can then take to their doctor if they believe something isnt right.
Aside from these two features, there are two others that up the Senses health-monitoring game: a skin temperature sensor and high and low heart rate alerts. The former does exactly what youd expect it monitors your body temperature throughout the day and takes baseline measurements at night while youre sleeping so you can better understand fluctuations over time. The latter uses Fitbits updated heart rate monitoring technology to alert you when your pulse is above or below a certain BPM threshold.
Both of these are practical, albeit unexciting, features mostly because theyre automatic: you dont have to prompt the smartwatch to take your temperature or to check if your heart rate is sky high itll just do it. Also, changes in body temperature can be early signs of illness, showing up before other symptoms, and knowing when your heart rate suddenly increases can prompt you to take a deep breath, relax and possibly remove yourself from a stressful situation.
Fitbit
Most of the Sense smartwatchs extraordinary features lie under the hood as the actual wearable looks pretty similar to the companys Versa smartwatches. It has that familiar rounded square case with detachable bands, and now it supports infinity bands that look very close to those that come with the Apple Watch.
The Senses case is made of aluminum and stainless steel and it has a slightly larger AMOLED display than other Fitbit smartwatches. In addition to built-in GPS, it also has the new PurePulse 2.0 heart rate monitor, onboard storage for music, an SpO2 sensor, Fitbit Pay support and a new built-in speaker that lets compatible voice assistants reply to your queries audibly and lets you quick-answer phone calls (while your smartphone is on and nearby, of course there are no LTE capabilities on this device).
Fitbits trying to do two things with the Sense smartwatch: compete with devices like the Apple Watch and the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3, and encourage users to pay for Fitbit Premium. The first is a bit more obvious than the second: the Senses spec sheet puts it squarely in competition with other premium smartwatches and features like EDA and ECG measurements emphasize its potential as a long-term health device.
But that last fact feeds into the companys apparent strategy for Fitbit Premium: give users devices that can track tons of health data, give them just enough of that information to satisfy most peoples needs and put the rest behind a paywall. The most detailed data for Fitbits advanced health metrics, such as the breakdown of how that new Stress Management Score is calculated, will only be available to Fitbit Premium users. In addition to data, Fitbits continuously adding resources to Premium things like meditation sessions, exercise programs and healthy eating routines to persuade users to pay $10 per month or $80 per year for the service.

The Flash Season 7 is slated for a 2021 launch on The CW, with Gustin as Barry Allen leading a revamped Team Flash. To the shareholders of Orphazyme A/S
The Board of Directors hereby convenes an Extraordinary General Meeting of Orphazyme A/S, CVR no. 32 26 63 55 (the Company), to be held on September 21, 2020 at 10:00 AM (CEST), at the Companys address Ole Maales Vej 3, DK-2200 Copenhagen N, Denmark.
To reduce the risk of COVID-19 spreading, we recommend that shareholders refrain from attending the Extraordinary General Meeting in person and instead cast their votes by correspondence or proxy. The Company will also reduce its number of representatives at the Extraordinary General Meeting to reduce the risk of infection.
Agenda
Items on the agenda, including complete proposals:In light of the contemplated listing of the Company in the United States and the offering of American Depositary Shares, the Board of Directors proposes a number of items to be approved by the Extraordinary General Meeting including in relation to the authorization to undertake the offering, U.S. specific risk management and the remuneration level and structure. The complete proposals are set out below.
In general, the Board of Directors believes that the offering of American Depositary Shares and the U.S. listing will benefit the Company and its shareholders as it would provide additional capital to fund the Companys product candidate, arimoclomol for the treatment of NPC through regulatory approval, support the Companys further clinical development of its product candidate for other indications, including ALS, sIBM and neurological Gaucher disease and establish a public market for the American Depositary Shares and facilitate future access to the public capital markets.
Item 1: Approval of amendment to an authorization to the Board of Directors to increase the share capital of the Company without pre-emption rights for existing shareholdersFor the purposes of ensuring flexibility and facilitate the contemplated capital increase related to the offering of American Depositary Shares and the U.S. listing, the Board of Directors proposes to amend Article 3.1 in the Articles of Association with the following wording:
In the period until 26 March 2025, the Board of Directors is authorised to increase the Companys share capital in one or more issues of new shares without pre-emption rights for the Companys existing shareholders by up to a nominal amount of DKK 10,815,000. The capital increase shall take place at market price as determined by the Board of Directors and shall be effected by cash payment, debt conversion or contribution in kind.
Item 2: Approval of an authorization to the Board of Directors to decide whether a general meeting shall be held fully by electronic means In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic including the prohibition imposed on larger gatherings as well as to ensure flexibility with respect to future general meetings of the Company, the Board of Directors proposes to adopt a new Article 4.3 of the Articles of Association with the following wording to authorize the Board of Directors to decide that general meetings may be held completely or partially by electronic means:
If the Board of Directors finds it appropriate, and if the general meeting can be conducted in a technically safe manner, the Board of Directors may decide that the general meeting shall be held fully or partially as an electronic general meeting. If so decided, shareholders will be able to attend, express their opinion and vote at the general meeting by electronic means. Detailed information on the procedures for electronic attendance and participation will be made available on the companys website and in the relevant notices convening the general meetings, and written information on the subject will also be sent to shareholders registered in the Companys register of shareholders if so requested.
Accordingly, the current Articles 4.3-4.7 will be re-numbered to Articles 4.4-4.8.
Item 3: Approval of amendment to Article 6.6 of the Articles of Association regarding exercise of voting rights The Board of Directors proposes that the current Article 6.6 of the Articles of Association be amended as follows:
Each share of the nominal value of DKK 1 shall carry 1 vote. A person registered as a holder of shares of the Company in VP Securities A/Sand acting in a professional capacity on behalf of other natural or legal persons, including holders of American Depositary Shares representing shares of the Company, may exercise voting rights attached to any such shares in a manner that is not identical to the exercise of the voting rights attached to other shares of the Company held by such person
Item 4: Approval of an authorization to the Board of Directors to let the Company indemnify the Executive Management and employees in relation to certain claims related to the offering of American Depositary Shares and the listing of the Company in the United States to be included in the Articles of AssociationThe Board of Directors proposes that the Extraordinary General Meeting authorizes the Board of Directors to resolve to let the Company indemnify the Executive Management and employees of the Company and its subsidiaries in relation to certain claims related to the offer, sale and listing of the Companys securities in the United States and in respect of the Companys reports filed with or furnished to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission thereafter.
It is the view of the Board of Directors that the proposal is necessary in order to attract, motivate and retain qualified members to the Executive Management and employees. The Board of Directors has concluded that the planned offer, sale and listing of the Companys securities in the United States entails a significantly increased risk exposure for the Executive Management and for certain employees of the Company and its subsidiaries, which significantly exceeds the level of exposure that would normally be expected as a member of the Executive Management or as an employee of a Danish listed company. On this basis, the Board of Directors finds that it is necessary and in the Companys interest to be able to indemnify members of the Executive Management and employees of the Company and its subsidiaries for certain claims made personally against such persons in connection with their services to the Company.
If the proposal is adopted, a new article 9.2 will be included in the Articles of Association of the Company with the following wording:
The Board of Directors are authorized to resolve to let the Company indemnify members of the Executive Management and employees of the Company or its subsidiaries for certain claims against these individuals in connection with their services to the Company.
The Companys indemnification covers claims and reasonable legal costs arising from the offer, sale and listing of the Companys securities in the United States and/or the Companys subsequent status as a listed company in the United States, including in respect of the Companys reports filed with or furnished to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission thereafter.
Notwithstanding the foregoing, the Companys indemnification shall not cover the following claims:
The indemnification is limited to a maximum amount per claim per person equivalent to the gross proceeds obtained by the Company in connection with the offering of American Depositary Shares in the United States.
The indemnification shall remain in force for a period of five years after the resignation of the indemnified person from the Company or its subsidiaries, if the claims made within such period are related to such persons services to the Company.
Item 5: Approval of indemnification of the Board of Directors related to the offering of American Depositary Shares and the listing of the Company in the United StatesThe Board of Directors proposes that the Extraordinary General Meeting approve that the Board of Directors shall be indemnified by the Company in relation to certain claims related to the offer, sale and listing of the Companys securities in the United States and in respect of the Companys reports filed with or furnished to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission thereafter.
It is the view of the Board of Directors that the proposal is necessary in order to attract, motivate and retain qualified members to the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors has concluded that the planned offer, sale and listing of the Companys securities in the United States entails a significantly increased risk exposure for the Board of Directors, which significantly exceeds the level of exposure that would normally be expected as a member of the Board of Directors in a Danish listed company. On this basis, the Board of Directors finds that it is necessary and in the Companys interest to indemnify members of the Board of Directors for certain claims made personally against such board members in connection with their services to the Company. The indemnification will become effective as of the date of approval by the Extraordinary General Meeting.
The Companys indemnification covers claims and reasonable legal costs arising from the offer, sale and listing of the Company in the United States and/or the Companys subsequent status as a listed company in the United States, including in respect of the Companys reports filed with or furnished to the U.S.
The indemnification shall remain in force for a period of five years after the resignation of the member of the Board of Directors from the Board of Directors, if the claims made within such period are related to such persons service as member of the Board of Directors.
Item 6: Approval of adjustments to the Companys Remuneration Policy The Board of Directors proposes the following adjustments to the Companys Remuneration Policy to be approved by the Extraordinary General Meeting in light of the Companys contemplated listing in the United States and as result of an external benchmark analysis of comparable peer companies in order to ensure that the level and structure of remuneration for the Board of Directors and Executive Management remain attractive in order to attract, motivate and retain qualified professionals:
The Board of Directors proposed and updated Remuneration Policy is set out in Appendix 1.
Item 7: Approval of remuneration of the Board of Directors for 2020In light of the U.S. listing, the results of an external benchmark analysis of comparable peer companies, and with the view of continuously attracting, motivating and retaining qualified members to the Board of Directors in line with the principles set out in the Remuneration Policy to be approved under item 6 above, the Board of Directors proposes that the following remuneration level for 2020 be approved by the Extraordinary General Meeting with effect from July 1, 2020 and on a proportionate basis for the remainder of the current financial year:
The members of the Board of Directors will receive annual supplementary fees for their work in the Companys Audit Committee, Remuneration Committee, and Nomination Committee. The Board of Directors proposes that the Extraordinary General Meeting approve the following supplementary fees for 2020 be approved by the Extraordinary General Meeting with effect from July 1, 2020 and on a proportionate basis for the remainder of the current financial year:
In addition and as approved by the Annual General Meeting held on March 26, 2020, members of the Board of Directors may receive a fixed travel allowance, as determined by the Board of Directors, and be reimbursed for expenses in connection with board meetings (e.g. related to travel and accommodation). Further, the Company may pay or reimburse social security duties and similar taxes imposed by public authorities in relation to board fees.
Item 8: Approval of share-based remuneration for the Board of DirectorsIn light of the U.S. listing, the results of an external benchmark analysis of comparable peer companies, and with the view of continuously attracting, motivating and retaining qualified members to the Board of Directors, the Board of Directors proposes that the Extraordinary General Meeting approves a new grant of share-based remuneration for 2020 in the form of restricted share units corresponding to 50% of each Board members fixed annual base fee and up to 100% of any new Board members fixed annual base fee, such base fee to include additional base fees to the Chairman and Deputy Chairman but excluding any additional fees for committee membership. The new grant of restricted share units for 2020 will be made pursuant to and in accordance with the principles set out in the revised Remuneration Policy approved by the Extraordinary General Meeting under item 6 above.
Exercise of the new grant of restricted share units will be contingent on certain conditions including (i) the initiation or completion of an offering and listing of American Depositary Shares in the United States and (ii) that the individual member of the Board of Directors does not exercise the restricted share units granted in March 2020 and approved at the Annual General Meeting on March 26, 2020. Accordingly, the value of the grants of share-based remuneration to the Board of Directors made in 2020 does not exceed 50% of the Board members fixed annual base fee, including additional base fees to the Chairman and Deputy Chairman but excluding any additional fees for committee membership, and up to 100% of any new Board members fixed annual base fee as an initial on-boarding grant, such base fee to include additional base fees to the Chairman and Deputy Chairman but excluding any additional fees for committee membership. The taxation of the individual board members on the basis the share-based remuneration is of no concern to the Company, save that the Company may provide a tax gross-up for any additional taxation imposed as a result of non-exercise of restricted share units granted in 2020.
Item 9: Election of new member of the Board of DirectorsThe Board of Directors proposes to elect Carrolee Barlow as new member of the Board of Directors. Please see Appendix 2 for a description of the nominated candidates qualifications and positions, including information about other executive/management functions held by the candidate in Danish and foreign companies.

Pasta could be a healthy food for your diet.
If you are an Italian food lover, you might have heard that a recent research named pasta as a good option for healthy diet. This has come as a surprise as we had always associated it with unhealthy diet - full of carbs and cheese. But, this study shunned these notions and we are quite happy about it. The research found that intake of pasta led to better diet quality for kids and adults, and also helped women with weight loss. Exciting, isn't it?
The study titled, "Pasta Consumption is Linked to Greater Nutrient Intakes and Improved Diet Quality in American Children and Adults, and Beneficial Weight-Related Outcomes Only in Adult Females" was carried out by Nutritional Strategies, Inc. on behalf of the National Pasta Association. The study results were published in the journal 'Frontiers in Nutrition'.
Here are the core findings of the study that pointed out the benefits of consuming pasta in a healthy way-

Eating pasta in moderation can help women lose weight.
If these findings are to be believed, all those women who used to avoid their beloved pasta fearing weight gain, no longer have to look the other way. But before you go all out and start bingeing on your favourite pasta, let's see what the experts have to say about it.
Nutritionist and Macrobiotic Health Coach, Shilpa Arora says, "No food group is good or bad; moderation is the key. A balanced approach to eating and energy expenditure is critical. We have this huge fuss around diets but the real problem is with modern lifestyles and time spent not outdoors but with gadgets, limiting movement and energy expenditure. So enjoy your pasta or dosa but move around to stay active. Limit phone time, do simple chores in your house, skip or walk or cycle and eat well."
Consultant nutritionist Rupali Dutta weighs in, "It is important to consume fibre and high-quality carbohydrates but portion control is essential if you want to lose weight."
Taking it all under consideration, we say, go ahead and enjoy pasta on weight loss diet at times but instead of adding gobs of cheese, fill your pasta bowl with lots of veggies.

There's growing evidence to support a holistic solution to common problems moms face like stress, obesity, and insomnia it's called EFT Tapping.
No matter how you slice it, there just aren't enough hours in the day for most moms. We're constantly running on empty while filled with stress. All of the running around and constant care taking takes a toll on our brains and our bodies, which leaves many of us exhausted, tense, and overweight.
However, there's growing evidence to support a holistic solution to all of the problems mom face it's called EFT Tapping. Although the idea may sound somewhat silly, the results and testimonials online speak for themselves. So what is EFT Tapping anyway? And how can it help moms sleep better, lose weight, and stay healthy?
Likeacupuncture and other Eastern medicinal treatments, emotional freedom technique (EFT) tapping is a holistic approach to treating physical and emotional concerns. Essentially, the techniqueinvolves applying specific types of tapping pressure to energy hot spots or meridian points within your body. By doing this tapping, you can restorethe energy balance within your body which in turn alleviates symptoms. In fact, thedeveloper of EFT, Gary Craig, claimsthat disruptions inyour body's natural energy flowcausesnearly all of the physical pain and emotional anguish that people experience.
It seems like a mom's work is never done which means we almost never sleep. Believe it or not, though, proponents of EFT Tapping say that the method can help cure insomnia and help stressed out mothers catch up on their Z's.
A study published in the Energy Psychology Journalfound that EFT Tapping was actually more effective than traditional sleep hygiene methods for curing insomnia. Furthermore, numerous studies have shown that Tapping helps reduce stress and anxiety within the body, which can also aid in sleep.
What happens if you wake up in the middle of the night? Well, Tapping experts say that you can simply get out of bed and doing a simple "breathe and tap" technique to calm your mind and return to sleep.

Many of us are aware that obesity is an epidemic in the United States. In fact, the NIH states that nearly two-thirds of all women in the United States are overweight or obese. Although fad diets like Keto are more prevalent than ever, many women aren't losing weight. However, there are several reasons why EFT can help women lose weight.
First and foremost, a study published inThe Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease proved that tapping reduces cortisol levels within the body, which in turn can also help reduce insulin levels and fat storage within the body. Therefore, by using EFT to reduce stress, you can also lose weight.
Furthermore, some studies have shown that tapping can help emotional eaters curb their appetite and work through unhealthy eating habits. One 2019 studyshowed that people who used EFT twice a week for 8 weeks reduced their BMI. In an interview with Women's Health Magazine,Jessica Ortner shared how tapping not only reduced her anxiety, but also helped her lose 30 pounds.
While better sleep and weight loss are definitely great benefits from Tapping, proponents of the practice say it doesn't just end there. In fact, chiropractor and clinical nutritionist Dr. Josh Axe claims that EFT can also help reduce chronic pain, muscular tension, joint pain, tension headaches and migranes.
Furthermore,EFT can help reduce mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, PTSD and ADD/ADHD. By Tapping on a regular basis, people can relieve stress and avoid many stress-related health conditions altogether.
And the best part? EFT isn't hard to learn! You can pick up on the technique by watching YouTube tutorials or even using apps like The Tapping Solution.
Whether you're struggling to sleep at night, battling obesity, or just stressed out all the time, EFT Tapping may be an easy solution that can fit into even the busiest mom's day. It's not hard to do, it doesn't require a ton of time or the assistance of a doctor, and you can even teach your children to do it too!

Even if you are new to the whole fitness scene, chances are one of the first things you hear about are the benefits of eating oats, not just for its health benefits but also how it aids in weight loss. Oats are a versatile breakfast food that can be tweaked to taste as the consumer desires. It tastes just as brilliant with fruits as it does with some salt and spices. Another aspect that enhances the fitness credibility of oats is soaking them overnight for consumption the next day. Contrary to popular belief, overnight oats have an amalgamation of health benefits for the body and work wonders for weight loss.
How are overnight oats healthy?
Overnight oats have become the hot new trend across the world due to their high fibre and nutritional content, even more so than its cooked counterpart. When soaked overnight, the starch present in the oats is naturally broken down and more nutrients are absorbed by the oats through the period of soaking, the acid present in the oats also breaks down overnight and this results in better digestion. Due to its soggy texture, it is much easier to consume in the morning. Most importantly, overnight oats help in increasing the insulin present in your body, which helps in regulating type 2 diabetes.
How can overnight oats help you lose weight?
Oats over all are beneficial for all those who are looking to lose some extra weight. Overnight soaked oats are very high in their fibre content, which keeps your stomach filled for a longer period of time. It even helps in clearing out your digestive tract. The high resistant starch content guarantees faster fat burning and increasing the bodys insulin level. Overnight oats also help in reducing bad cholesterol in the body and increasing the good cholesterol. Oats are also known to work wonders for those who have a high blood pressure. Overnight oats serve as a quick meal with minimal preparation. Not only are nutritional but also make for a delicious meal.
How to make overnight oats?
There are many recipes all over the internet for you to choose from, in accordance with your taste. Simply, the oats need to be soaked in liquid for the span of 7-8 hours, before consumption. You can use milk, water, almond or coconut milk or even curd. Once they have been left overnight, they can be served the next morning with a variety of fruits and nuts. If you prefer a more savoury flavour, you can soak them in any of the above-mentioned liquids and add ghee, salt, and spices according to preference. Here is a delicious recipe to try.
Peanut butter overnight oats: Recipe by Minimalist Baker
Gluten-free, vegan recipe made with just 5 ingredients. (Minimalist Baker )
Ingredients
OATS
1/2 cup unsweetened plain almond milk (or sub other dairy-free milks, such as coconut, soy, or hemp!)
3/4 Tbsp chia seeds
2 Tbsp natural salted peanut butter or almond butter (creamy or crunchy // or sub other nut or seed butter)
1 Tbsp maple syrup (or sub coconut sugar, organic brown sugar, or stevia to taste)
1/2 cup gluten-free rolled oats (rolled oats are best, vs. steel cut or quick cooking)
TOPPINGS (optional)
Sliced banana, strawberries, or raspberries
Flaxseed meal or additional chia seed
Granola
Instructions
To a mason jar or small bowl with a lid, add almond milk, chia seeds, peanut butter, and maple syrup (or another sweetener) and stir with a spoon to combine. The peanut butter does not need to be completely mixed with the almond milk (doing so leaves swirls of peanut butter to enjoy the next day).
Add oats and stir a few more times. Then press down with a spoon to ensure all oats have been moistened and are immersed in almond milk.
Cover securely with a lid or seal and set in the refrigerator overnight (or for at least 6 hours) to set/soak.
The next day, open and enjoy as is or garnish with desired toppings (see options above). See more flavour/topping suggestions in the blog post above!
OPTIONAL: You can also heat your oats in the microwave for 45-60 seconds (just ensure theres enough room at the top of your jar to allow for expansion and prevent overflow), or transfer oats to a saucepan and heat over medium heat until warmed through. Add more liquid as needed if oats get too thick/dry.
Overnight oats will keep in the refrigerator for 2-3 days, though best within the first 12-24 hours in our experience. Not freezer friendly.

Peggy Liu, University of Pittsburgh and Kelly L. Haws, Vanderbilt University
(THE CONVERSATION) The Research Brief is a short take about interesting academic work.
The big idea
Dieters looking for a healthier substitute of their favorite high-fat food such as a bag of potato chips typically have two choices in the grocery aisle: a smaller package of the exact same food or a larger portion of a light version. In a series of studies, we put this choice to consumers and found that people who frequently try to cut back on their eating or are essentially always on a diet known as restrained eaters prefer the larger portion size of the light version, even though both contained the exact same number of calories. Participants who indicated that they rarely dieted tended to pick the smaller size with the full flavor.
Our first study involved a vending machine choice between a medium-sized bag of Lays Baked BBQ potato chips and a smaller package of the regular version both 150 calories. Participants who took a survey in which they reported frequently trying to cut back on their eating for example, by taking smaller servings and skipping meals opted for the larger bag of baked chips. We got similar results over four additional studies involving other snacks, such as popcorn and cookies.
Why it matters
People tend to want food to be tasty, healthy and filling. Our studys restrained eaters were definitely interested in choosing a snack that seemed healthier, but their choice of the larger size suggested they wanted a snack that they felt would make them feel full as well possibly at the expense of taste. Feeling full can help people consume fewer calories overall.
The problem is research suggests eating more of lighter foods might not make people feel full, and this may point to a reason why most diets fail. Some psychologists argue that restrained eaters do not achieve the health and weight outcomes they desire possibly because, in depriving themselves of the fattier, tastier food, they may later engage in binge-eating or overconsume.
By opting for the lighter, less pleasurable food, even in larger packages, restrained eaters might be depriving themselves of the food they actually crave regular chips, buttered popcorn or a sugary cookie.
What still isnt known
More research is ultimately needed, however, to test whether the emphasis on increasing the portion sizes that one can eat of light foods, rather than focusing on eating smaller portions of foods that are more satisfying, is a successful long-term strategy. Or, as past research indicates, might it actually backfire and contribute to failed dieting? Its still not entirely clear.
Whats next
At the moment, we are working on new research examining how people decide what to eat, how much to eat and how frequently to eat it. For example, why do some people decide to try to avoid any treats, whereas others try to seek moderation? If they seek moderation in their diet, would they rather have a small treat every day or have a cheat day on the weekend?
Were also trying to understand whether or not consumers actually feel as full as they think they do by eating more lighter foods rather than less of calorie-dense foods.
How we do our work
We use a variety of approaches in our research on food, including conducting lab and online-based experiments, field studies and exploring existing data sets, such as food diary data. For this particular research, we recruited participants to pick chips out of a vending machine and used online panels to simulate real-world choices.
