Gabourey Sidibe is steadily making progress with her weight loss. The "Empire" actress recentlytookto Instagram with a shot from the gymwhich featured her posing in an armless black top and grey slacks.

In her captions, she sensitized fans on what she was doing to help out Black activists putting their life on the line to secure a better future. She began by sharing a short story about how, as a little girl in Brooklyn, she had been "terrified" to leave her apartment because of "Yusef Hawkins' tragic murder."

"I'm #TakingOnTheStorm by donating to bail funds that support Black activists putting their lives on the line for our freedom. How are you taking on the storm?"

In the comments section, fans commended Sidibe for her encouraging words. Many pointed out how great she looked and urged her to keep breaking limits both with her weight loss and her feats as an entertainer.

Sidibe, who first received public acclaim with her breakout role in "Precious," has been tryingto lose weight for years with no luck. Sheopted for surgery after she was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

Sheturnedto laparoscopic bariatric surgerya surgical procedure in which 80 percent of the stomach is removed. Since then, she has grown bolder on social media, often taking every opportunity to show off her ongoing progress.

Pfizer Inc (PFE) Down 0.42%, in an Uptrend Over Past 30 Days; Price Base in Formation Over Past 90 Days – CFD Trading

Pfizer Inc Daily Price Recap

The back and forth price flow continues for Pfizer Inc, which started today off at 38.17 US dollars, down 0.42% ($0.16) from the day prior. This move happened on lower volume, as yesterdays volume was down 23.18% from the day before and down 47.77% from the same day the week before. Here is a daily price chart of Pfizer Inc.

Coming into today Pfizer Inc is now close to its 20 day moving averages, which may act as price barrier for the asset. Volatility for Pfizer Inc has been contracting over the past two weeks relative to volatility over the past month. Whether volatility reverts will be something to watch. Trend traders will want to observe that the strongest trend appears on the 30 day horizon; over that time period, price has been moving up. Also of note is that on a 90 day basis price appears to be forming a base which could the stage for it being a support/resistance level going forward. For another vantage point, consider that Pfizer Incs price has gone up 15 of the previous 30 trading days.

Heres what one trader on StockTwits recently had to say in regards to PFE:

Its interesting that the SalivaDirect covid test study that is being conducted by Yale on the NBA players is being funded by $PFE. They are using the $OPK BioReference test as a comparison because of the accuracy of that test. Seems like another great Pfizer and OPK partnership just like on the hGH deal ALW has received research funding through grants from Pfizer to Yale and has received consulting fees for participation in advisory boards for Pfizer. https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.08.03.20167791v1

What Is Hatha Yoga and What Are the Benefits? – LIVESTRONG.COM

Hatha yoga is a slow, meditative practice that focuses on using your breath to deepen the poses.

Image Credit: Stgur Mr Karlsson /Heimsmyndir/E+/GettyImages

If the different styles of yoga are layers, Hatha yoga is the base. The meditative, stress-busting practice hones in on many of the basic yoga postures, making it a perfect introduction for beginners.

But seasoned yogis can also benefit. Depending on the yoga instructor and the studio you visit, Hatha yoga classes can range from a constant flow to a slow, gentle class.

Ready to go deeper with your practice? Here's everything you need to know about Hatha yoga and what to expect if you're just starting out, plus a Hatha yoga sequence you can practice in the comfort of your own home or wherever you are!

Hatha yoga is an umbrella term for physical practice, so other types of yoga, such as Ashtanga and Vinyasa, are all forms of Hatha yoga.

Hatha in Sanskrit is a combination of ha (sun) and tha (moon), and represents the union of two opposites. Hatha yoga is filled with a series of physical postures, or asanas, that both strengthen the body and improve flexibility.

Hatha yoga also allows practitioners to discover something deeper within themselves by creating balance and uniting opposites not only in their physical practice but also in their hearts and minds.

"The beauty of Hatha is that through the eight limbs of yoga, each individual is receiving their very own unique remedy to something they are needing in their own life at that time," Candy Glover, a yoga instructor based in Oxon Hill, Maryland, tells LIVESTRONG.com.

Those eight limbs of yoga that Glover refers to are yoga's principles for living a purposeful life, which are found in the yoga guidebook, Yoga Sutras of Pantanjali, from sage Sri Swami Satchidananda. They are:

What makes Hatha stand out is that it teaches you how to apply yoga principles in everyday life. For example, using your pranayama to do asanas helps strengthen the body-breath connection and trains you to sit in stillness.

"Balance is so hard to come by in our fast-paced culture," says Brandie Regaldo, a San Antonio-based yoga instructor and co-founder of SAY OM SA.

"From my personal experience of practicing and observing as a teacher, a Hatha class is often the first opportunity some people have to actually slow down and tune into their body and mind while reinvigorating themselves at the same time."

That said, many of the poses you'll encounter in Hatha yoga involve balancing and slow transitions between poses to really emphasize the breath. Expect seated and standing poses with twists and bends, so each side of your body is strengthened.

The Benefits of Hatha Yoga

It Can Enhance Mobility and Range of Motion

Practicing yoga regularly can increase flexibility and energy, improve muscle strength and tone and promote better respiration and weight loss, according to the American Osteopathic Association. And because many of the yoga poses in Hatha involve gradually moving from a seated to a standing position, you'll also work on your range of motion and joint mobility.

In fact, a May 2012 randomized controlled trial in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, which included 250 participants with osteoarthritis in the knee joints, found that those who did Hatha yoga in addition to pain treatment saw more improvement in walking and range of motion in the knee than those who did therapeutic exercises after pain treatment.

It Can Improve Your Flexibility

In Hatha yoga, you'll also do poses that incorporate both the upper- and lower-body muscles and limbs, so you'll develop greater body awareness and learn how to move more mindfully, which can promote good posture and flexibility. This is particularly helpful for people with stiff joints, as well as athletes who want to improve their performance.

"Through my Hatha yoga practice, I have developed increased flexibility, better air flow and breathing practices, a better meditative practice, as well as a deepened appreciation for my spirituality," Glover says.

A June 2015 study in Evidence-Based Complementary Medicine, which included 154 middle-aged Chinese adults, found that after 12 weeks of Hatha yoga, participants improved their flexibility and muscular strength and endurance.

It Can Help You Manage Stress

One of the things you'll learn quickly in Hatha yoga is that your breath helps you not only transition between the poses, but mindful breathing also helps you perform new and difficult poses. This can easily be translated to life off the mat. When you're going through stressful moments, focusing on your breathing can help put your mind at ease.

"No matter where I am, how I'm feeling or what's going on, if I really take the time to check in with myself, there's always a way to bring more comfort, joy and acceptance into the moment," Regaldo says.

It Can Promote Weight Loss

Regaldo also credits her Hatha yoga practice with helping her lose weight. "There are so many benefits to practicing Hatha yoga regularly, but the most dramatic benefit I've experienced was an 85-pound weight loss over the course of four years, which I have been able to keep off for 12 years," Regaldo says.

According to Harvard Health Publishing, just 30 minutes of Hatha yoga can burn anywhere between 120 to 178 calories, depending on your weight.

Still, Hatha yoga doesn't have the same calorie-burning power as cardio workouts. To lose weight, the Mayo Clinic recommends supplementing your Hatha yoga practice with regular activity like walking, running, cycling or swimming and a healthy, calorie-controlled diet.

What to Expect at Your First Hatha Yoga Class

Whether a Hatha yoga class is slower-paced or more vigorous is up to the instructor, but the most important thing is to breathe through the transitions of the poses and to move at your own pace.

Some poses you can expect to do in a Hatha yoga class are Child's pose, Mountain pose, Downward Facing Dog and a nice back warm-up that includes Tabletop and Cat-Cow. These are great basic poses for beginners to learn, but they also serve as reminders for more advanced yogis to return to simplicity when the body needs it.

While the instructor will give you a general time frame for staying in a pose, you can expect to hold poses for five to 10 breaths. If you're not able to do certain poses, don't be shy to ask for a modification.

Regaldo also emphasizes letting go of all expectations and encourages students to not be concerned with setting strict goals, such as vigorously working through the hour-long classes or trying to nail down all the poses.

"I invite you to use your time on the mat for self-exploration and inquiry in place of judgements and rules," Regaldo says. "Even five minutes of mindful movements and breathing can do wonders."

How to Find a Hatha Yoga Class Near You

Since Hatha yoga is arguably the most popular form of the practice, many fitness studios and gyms offer classes.

To find a Hatha yoga studio or class near you, check out Yoga Alliance and ClassPass. You can also find on-demand Hatha yoga classes at Yoga Greenbook, Daily Burn, Peloton and Alo Moves. If you're a member at larger gyms, ask if they have Hatha yoga class offerings.

A 15-Minute Hatha Yoga Sequence to Try at Home

To help get you started with cultivating calm and relaxation on and off the mat, here is a quick Hatha yoga flow to practice daily.

Hold each pose for five to 10 breaths and repeat the sequence for 2 to 4 rounds, making sure to switch sides where noted with each round. This flow is meant to be relaxing, so feel free to hold the poses longer.

EOS Fitness reopening after reaching agreement with AZDHS, Ducey – KTAR.com

(EOS Fitness Website Photo)

PHOENIX EOS Fitness announced they will reopen Arizona locations starting Saturday at 8 a.m. for workouts by reservation.

In an e-mail to members, EOS Fitness CEO Rich Drengberg said they came to a reopening agreement with Gov. Ducey and the Arizona Department of Health Services to reopen their facilities.

According to the centers website, guests will be required to make reservations up to 24 hours in advance, and gym capacity will be limited to 100 people at a time.

The centers will also require face coverings at all times, even when taking a class or doing cardio. Additional requirements include members sanitizing their own equipment between uses and practicing social distancing.

EOS reopening plans say they will hold off on resuming group classes until Maricopa County enters the moderate risk faze. Areas with little room to social distance like the sauna, steam room, hot tub and basketball courts would remain closed for the time being.

AZDHS released benchmarks this week for businesses that were shut down under Duceys June 29 executive order. Those businesses included fitness centers, bars/nightclubs, indoor theaters, water parks and tubing.

These businesses would be allowed to reopen when the state entered the moderate phase. That includes a two-week decline in coronavirus cases, percent positivity and hospital visits for COVID-like illnesses in the region.

As of Friday, Maricopa County met one of these benchmarks.

A business in a county in the substantial spread range can start its appeal by requesting an informal settlement conference with the Department of Health Services.

The conference, where the business will lay out its proposal, will be held within approximately 15 days of the request.

If the department approves the request, the business can reopen after posting the list of its promised health strategies in a conspicuous place.

EOS has more than 30 Arizona locations.

Luxury Wellness And Fitness Retreats Launching In 2020, With Seclusion And Safety In Mind – Forbes

Socially-distanced relaxation at SHA Wellness in Alicante, Spain.

Perhaps National Relaxation Day (on the 15th) and National Wellness Month (all August long) should be taken a little more seriously this year.

The burnout was real in 2020. And while there are endless ways to unwind, recharge and indulge in some self-care, theres nothing quite like a luxury wellness retreat to truly escape the stressors of daily life. Relaxation is a great time to heal, assess our lifestyle choices and pinpoint which aspects of our health are in need of TLC. After months of shutdown, many luxury destinations are reopening as socially-distanced sanctuaries, with a ready-focus on wellness packages, meal plans with in-suite dining and fitness programs to help give us a jumpstart on our path to rejuvenation.

While most spas are operating on a limited menu of basic massage therapies, these hotels, resorts, and other venues have designed private spa packages and outdoor-centric experiences that naturally lend themselves to new health protocols, with social distancing and routine sanitization in mind. But before booking, make sure to track safety guidelines for reopening, as well as state-by-state travel restrictions, and keep your face mask just as handy as your yoga mat. In this new world of wellness travel, safety trumps self-pampering.

The Ranch Private is a tailored program ideal for those who wish to escape to nature.

The Ranch Malibu in California reopened on July 5thand launched The Ranch Private, a seven-day tailored program for those who wish to retreat to nature. Its designed to give guests (up to four per group) the opportunity to enjoy all the acclaimed amenities of The Ranch, but in more of a secluded state. Set on 200 acres in the Santa Monica Mountains, guests can take private hikes, outdoor fitness classes, daily massages and plant-based meals prepared by a personal chef.

After weeks of home isolation, people are ready to go outside and move their bodies, says Alex Glasscock, founder and CEO of The Ranch. Our sequestered setting amongst a small group of fellow guests is the ideal destination to do just that.Several safety precautions are in place, such as the installment of Molekule UV air purifiers in all massage cottages and the distribution of Ranch Protection Kits for each guest, which will include a mask, Ranch bandana, gloves and hand sanitizer.

The Ranch Private experience is available for $10,000 per person.

Inside the Relaxation Room at the Ciel Spa Brickell.

While most cities celebrate its own version of restaurant week, only Miami hosts its own Miamis Spa Months. From August 7 to September 30, participating hotel spas and day spas across the metro area wind down the summer by offering up to 50% off services. The SLS Brickell, for instance, has designed two signature services for the occasion. Its Soft Like Swedish Hand & Foot Scrub allows guests to bask in a blend of lavender, marigold petals and Himalayan salt, for a low rate of $109. In addition to smoothening the skin, body scrubs are known to eliminate toxins and improve circulation.

You can get your fashion and fitness fix at The Royal Poinciana.

Hotels are not the only places capitalizing on the jetsetters appetite for health and fitness. The Royal Poinciana Plaza is a luxury shopping destination in Palm Beach, Florida, featuring shops like Assouline, Herms, Oscar de la Renta and more. While many of the stores have reopened, its spacious terrazzo walkways and lush courtyards allow for much more than retail therapy.

The al fresco design of the property allows us to bring new offerings to our guests like Shop to Table, a monthly outdoor shopping experience, and Royal Sweat, a courtyard fitness series running seven days a week, says Lori Berg, general manager at The Royal. The fitness series kicks off in September in its tranquil courtyard. At just $25 per class, shoppers have the opportunity to stretch, move and sweat under the shady palms with instructors from local boutique fitness studios, like Squeeze Pilates Palm Beach, Liv Fitness, and The Yoga Society Palm Beach. Because of limited class capacity and safety measures, online pre-registration is required.

A Mediterranean sunset from the terrace at SHA Wellness Clinic.

Set in Alicante, Spain with views of the Mediterranean, the SHA Wellness Clinic has long touted the healing effects of its wellness programs, many of which focus on detox, weight loss and aesthetic treatments. But upon its reopening on July 22nd, the clinic (which has on-site residences) is doubling down on its medical-spa approach. Guests will get a checkup prior to and upon arrival, including an anti-body test. Immunotherapy and lymphocyte profile consultations will also be included in all bookings to assess the state of the guests immune system. The Rebalance Health Program will then offer a complementary tailored package for strengthening ones immune system. SHA also offers a free SHA Insurance program, allowing for easy cancellation should the guest test positive for Covid-19 upon arrival. This is one addition to a variety ofreopening measures recently announced, including UV technology and intensified cleaning protocols.

The famed Teeth of the Dog golf course.

Some resorts are offering discounts and credits to entice guests. Don’t give up fitness in your effort to stay healthy – Wadena Pioneer Journal

As the coronavirus moved into the area and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz began declaring closures of businesses in an effort to slow the virus spread, gyms like the Maslowski Wellness and Research Center in Wadena were forced to close. This meant a site where thousands of people visited each month was now off limits. This place where people gathered to stay fit, socialize and heal was locked.

One business person who relied heavily on having the Mas open was local personal trainer Nicole Pomerenke. After going through her own transformation, she's been helping others live a healthier life through nutrition and fitness offerings at the gym. But no gym, meant no work, at least until she could navigate through the many unknowns.

Nicole Pomerenke has been operating her fitness business out of a new location on Ash Avenue in Wadena in the former Wadena Chamber of Commerce building.Michael Johnson/Pioneer Journal

Since July 1, Pomerenke has been seeing clients out of a new space in the former Wadena Chamber of Commerce office on Ash Avenue in Wadena. She says the spot is perfect for exposure and just right to work with clients individually.

"This really got pushed because the gym was shut down," Pomerenke said.

She used to work out of the Mas either one-on-one or in various group classes. She said she would restart that again in August. Even so, she plans to maintain her own site in order to avoid the unknowns that can come along if the wellness center must close down again. Once returning to the wellness center she plans to continue strength training, water aerobics and equipment orientation.

During the first weeks of COVID-19, Pomerenke said she started developing video training, and writing more programs for her clients, but she was missing the connections with people. The personal trainer in her knew she needed to be right there supporting her clients to get them to achieve their goals. She even missed the small talk and staying up-to-date with everyone.

"I really feel more connected to people working with them one-on-one," Pomerenke said. "You can only do so much cheering via typing or something like that."

Another factor in her going out into her own space was her clients safety. Many are older or have preexisting conditions. The thought of going to a gym with many other people is not a choice some of them will make. In her new site, she is able to work one-on-one with clients using her fitness equipment or simply performing various body weight exercises.

"I'm hoping to really connect with people that want the privacy of being able to workout and get in the strength training, and the guidance, motivation, and further their activities and their goals," she said.

One such client is Ron Horn, who has been working with Pomerenke for about two years. He said he's lost 60 pounds since his start of training with Nicole.

"She's a very good trainer," Horn said. "If you have any questions she's very good about explaining things."

Pomerenke is tapping into a portion of the population that lacks the confidence of working out at a gym in front of many others or those who simply want to avoid large crowds. This private setting allows her to help them reach goals with only her helpful assistance at their side.

"I know how it feels to not want to go there," Pomerenke said, recalling a time when she was overweight and not feeling confident about going to any gym.

As much as she looks forward to the return of gyms full of people, she's now better prepared to stay in business during those times when a big sweaty group of people confined inside a building just isn't an option.

To find out more about her training options, visit her at makefitnessfun4you.com.

DiTursi: Massage and fitness | Weekend Magazine | rutlandherald.com – Rutland Herald

Weve all been there. We start up a new fitness routine and we start it hard. We commit to five days a week, no matter what and, when we exercise, we do it hard. The first week we are pretty sore, but we suck it up and press on.

Week two comes up, and although we are still sore, we press on by going farther and working harder. By week three, if weve made it that far, we are starting to see the results of our hard work, but our performance is slacking and we seem to be perpetually sore, and the work gets harder to do.

At this point, we may slow down a bit. We might choose to take the week off. Eventually, one week off becomes two weeks off, and then three, at which point our committed fitness routine becomes a shameful memory.

The key to any effective fitness routine is consistency. The fundamental basis to fitness consistency is pushing far enough to challenge the body but not so far as to punish it. A proper balance between work and recovery must be made.

There are four stages in muscle recovery all of which can be aided with the addition of massage therapy.

Stage 1: Delivery of nourishment To repair damaged tissue, nourishment and supplies need to be delivered to the area so the recovery process can begin. In a massage, as the muscle tissue is kneaded and stretched, more nutrients and supplies are allowed to be transported to the damaged tissue.

Stage 2: Waste removal To keep waste from building up and leading to swelling or further damage, the next stage involves the process of removing waste. The lymphatic system is responsible for removing waste, but its a passive system that relies on movement of the body to circulate. Numerous studies have shown massage can exponentially increase the rate of flow through the lymphatic system, thereby speeding up the removal of waste and decreasing inflammation.

Stage 3: Tissue regeneration During this stage of recovery, myokines are produced and released into your body. Myokines are the proteins in the body that drive tissue regeneration. The muscle activation and stimulation obtained from a therapeutic massage provides the mechanical stress required to produce myokines so your damaged tissue can be repaired.

Stage 4: Remodeling of repaired tissue After tissue has been repaired, it then needs to be remodeled. When new tissue is formed, it creates a random pattern that makes it hard for the tissue to slide smoothly past one another. The tissue needs to be rearranged in straight lines so it can function properly. Certain massage techniques like myofascial release and longitudinal stretching allow the repaired muscle tissue to optimally remodel. Failure to optimally remodel the repaired muscle tissue can lead directly to dysfunctional movement.

Whether you are starting into a new fitness journey or fine tuning and ramping-up a regimen youve already been following, be sure to allow enough quality time for recovery. Furthermore, make that recovery time count by adding regularly scheduled therapeutic massage to your routine.

Why This Peloton Analyst Says An Apple Fitness Subscription Poses Little Threat – Benzinga

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) is reportedly planning to launch abundled servicefor subscription by October that includes a fitness app subscription for the higher end.

Although Apples fitness app would compete with Peloton Interactive Incs (NASDAQ: PTON) digital-only subscription offer, it may have a limited impact on the companys connected fitness base, according to BofA Securities.

The Peloton Analyst: Justin Post maintained a Buy rating onPeloton Interactive with an unchanged $72 price target.

The Peloton Thesis: Apples new fitness app will be available on the companys devices, like the iPhone, iPadand Apple TV, while Pelotons offerings are solutions for bikes and treadmills, Post said in a Friday note. (See his track record here.)

Pelotons digital-only subscription revenue represented only 1% of total revenue in the third quarter, he said, adding that the biggest value indigital subscribers for the company is their potential conversion to connected fitness subscribers.

"Longer-term, it is unclear whether Apple would partner with other at-home fitness hardware companies, or create its own proprietary bike/tread, though we think former is more likely than the latter."

Peloton's bikedelivery wait times suggest a robust order backlog, while BofAs app download data indicates that guided workout app downloads grew 220% year-on-year in July and areup 6% sequentially.

PTON Price Action: Peloton shares were down 0.59% at $65.32 at last check Friday.
