Tributes to Spanish fitness guru killed by Brit who fell seven storeys from Marbella hotel balcony and landed – The Sun
TRIBUTES have been paid to a Spanish fitness guru killed instantly when a Brit fell seven-storeys from a hotel balcony onto him.
Father-of-two Antonio Gonzalez, 43, was enjoying a drink with family and friends at the five-star hotel when he died.

The tragedy hapened at the upmarket Melia Don Pepe Hotel in Marbella just before 2am on Saturday.
The Brit, who has been named locally as Anthony Holmes, was reportedly staying at the hotel.
Police said they were still investigating the tragic incident.
The exclusive hotel has declined to comment.
Mr Gonzalez ran a well-known gym in Marbella specialising in fitboxing, which is a mix of boxing and kickboxing practiced to music.
He had organised several charity fundraisers through the gym, including one for Save the Children and another to build a school in Sierra Leone.
He had two children and was married to a woman who worked as a receptionist at another hotel in the resort.

She is understood to have been by his side when he was killed and narrowly escaped serious injury.
Local reports said the dead man was with friends, who were looking at the hotel to see if it was suitable for their daughters communion.
A friend of the couple said: He was a lovely bloke who lived a normal life.
His wife was beside him when it happened. I cant imagine the pain and shock shes experiencing right now.
A witness told a local paper Antonio's friends had been singing Happy Birthday to one of the group moments before the tragedy took place.
A friend of the dead man said in a Facebook tribute: Today is a sad day in our hearts.
Antonio has been tragically taken from us.
I dont know how to explain what has happened. Id just like to express my condolences to his family and friends who witnessed what occurred.
Another added: What a terrible tragedy. My deepest condolences to all Antonios family and friends.
A hotel guest said: I havent been able to sleep a wink thinking about the man who the holidaymaker landed on.
It is not known where in the UK Mr Holmes was from.

Add fruit, veggies and grains to diet to reduce type 2 diabetes risk by 25%, studies say – Martinsville Bulletin
The second study used questionnaires to measure the whole grain intake of more than 158,000 women and nearly 37,000 men taking part in the Nurses' Health Study, Nurses' Health Study II, and Health Professionals Follow-Up Study. All three studies have been following the health of Americans free from diabetes, heart disease and cancer over long periods of time.
Foods and ingredients considered whole grains were: whole wheat and whole wheat flour, whole oats and whole oat flour, whole cornmeal and whole corn flour, whole rye and whole rye flour, whole barley, bulgur, buckwheat, brown rice and brown rice flour, popcorn, amaranth and psyllium.
Results showed that eating two or more servings a week of oatmeal was associated with a 21% lower risk of diabetes, a 15% lower risk for added bran and a 12% lower risk for brown rice and wheat germ, when compared to eating less than one serving a month.
There was a 19% lower risk of diabetes with eating one or more servings a day of whole grain cold breakfast cereal and a 21% lower risk for the same amount of dark bread, again compared to eating less than one serving a month.
These statistics held true even after adjusting for body mass index and other lifestyle and dietary risk factors for diabetes, the study said.

Mesomorph refers to body types with a naturally high muscle-to-fat ratio. People with this body type typically respond well to weight training, finding it easier than other people to build and maintain muscle. They may also find it easier to gain or lose weight.
Everyone has a different body type. However, according to one theory, there are three main body types, and most people fit into one or a combination of these categories.
There are broad distinctions between the body types. These mostly relate to how easily someone gains weight or muscle, as well as the natural shape of their body.
In this article, we discuss what a mesomorph body type is and the best diets and workouts for people with this type.
The mesomorph body type tends to include a medium build with higher-than-average muscular development and relatively low body fat. People may describe it as a naturally athletic physique.
William Sheldon first introduced the term mesomorph in the 1940s as one of three body types, or somatotypes. These somatotypes are general categories that many people might feel describes their body type.
Some people may think that they have a combination of somatotypes, while others might not fit into any of the categories.
Mesomorphs tend to be athletic and strong due to their high muscle-to-fat ratio, which might give them a muscular chest, shoulders, and limbs. Their weight distribution around the body is usually relatively even.
People with a mesomorph-type body gain muscle and weight easily. Typically, they are able to lose weight quickly, but they can also find it easy to gain fat. Therefore, mesomorphs may need to watch their calorie intake or stay active to avoid gaining weight. A combination of weight training and cardio usually works best for mesomorphs.
People with mesomorph-type bodies tend to be suited to sports and have good posture. For example, many studies suggest that athletes in basketball, boxing, martial arts, strength training, swimming, track and field, and volleyball typically have mesomorphic characteristics.
Sheldon also introduced ectomorphs and endomorphs as other possible body types.
Ectomorphs have low muscle and fat. They usually have a lean body shape with long limbs. People with this body type might struggle to gain weight or muscle.
Endomorphs have high body fat with a curvy figure. They can gain weight and muscle quickly, but struggle to lose it again.
In reality, many people might have a combination of these different body types. For example, ecto-endomorphs keep more fat on their lower body and have thinner upper bodies. This weight distribution creates a pear-shaped figure.
Endo-ectomorphs have more fat on their upper body with a slimmer lower body. Other people might feel as though they have features of all three body types.
Some people will have a good idea of what body type is closest to their own. For others, it is less clear.
It can help to think about how easy it is to gain weight. Mesomorphs and endomorphs both gain weight quickly, whereas ectomorphs find it more difficult to gain weight.
Another factor is muscle gain. Mesomorphs and endomorphs gain muscle quickly, while ectomorphs do not. An endomorph would have a rounder or curvier figure than a mesomorph.
The best diet for a mesomorph will depend on their health or fitness goals. Mesomorphs tend to gain weight easily. Therefore, they may need to be careful to eat a healthful and balanced diet or keep active to avoid excess body fat.
According to the American Council on Exercise (ACE), the calorie needs of people with a mesomorph body type are slightly higher than those of people with other body types. They generally respond better to higher protein diets.
Those who have put on weight may wish to reduce their portion sizes and calorie intake. However, those wishing to gain muscle should aim to increase their calorie intake while sticking with healthful foods.
A healthful diet should include a variety of foods. For mesomorph body types, the ACE suggest splitting meals into thirds: one-third protein, one-third vegetable (or fruit), and one-third whole-grain carbohydrates (or healthful fats).
To achieve a lean and muscular physique, it is important that people incorporate both cardiovascular and weight training into their workout routines.
A person with a mesomorph body type who wishes to lose weight should prioritize cardiovascular exercises.
For optimal results, ACE recommend high intensity interval training (HIIT). HIIT involves alternating bursts of intense exercise with intervals of lighter activity or rest. People with low fitness can start with lower intensity forms of cardio, such as walking.
Mesomorphs who wish to gain muscle can prioritize resistance exercises, such as weight training. Generally, mesomorphs tend to respond well to weight training and gain muscle quickly.
Depending on the persons fitness goals, weight training should include a mixture of exercises that target different muscle groups. For optimal results and muscle gain, people should perform a low-to-average number of reps with moderate-to-heavy weights.
It is also important to change the workout routine regularly and ensure adequate rest and recovery.
Everyone has a different body type. Some people will feel that theirs is closest to a certain type, such as mesomorphic. Others might feel as though they have a combination of body types or do not fit into any category.
Being familiar with their somatotype may help a person determine their health and fitness goals. For example, mesomorphs may require more calories than others and may find it easier to gain lean muscle mass if they perform certain exercises.
People may wish to consider consulting a nutritionist or fitness professional to create an effective diet and exercise plan for their body type and goals.

Read More..All you need to know about intermittent fasting – Prestige Online
Intermittent fasting is one of the top lifestyle trends this year.
And thats not only because we might not have been eating as healthy and balanced as we should be at home, but also because it has proven results with (relatively) little effort required.
Nevertheless, as with all diets (and diet fads), its important to be properly informed before embarking on a journey of changing your eating habits.
Here, Dr Priya Khorana, founder and CEO of Lifestyle Nutrition Consulting Co in Bangkok, gives us the ultimate low-down on intermittent fasting, from the perspective of someone who really knows a thing or two about this stuff. Read on, take note, and decide for yourself if youre ready to (stomach) rumble.
Intermittent fasting (IF) is not a diet. It is a timed approach to eating, and unlike a restricted fad diet, it does not specify what foods a person should eat or avoid. To put simply; IF does not change what you eat, it changes when you eat.
It may have some health benefits, including weight loss and improved insulin sensitivity, but it is not suitable for everyone and should be done with careful consideration. People with advanced diabetes or who are on medications for diabetes, people with a history of eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia, and pregnant or breastfeeding women should not attempt intermittent fasting unless under the close supervision of a physician who can monitor them.
Having said that, there are some evidence-based benefits of IF. In men, it has shown to reduce insulin resistance and lower blood sugar levels (and thereby reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes). It has also been shown to reduce oxidative damage and inflammation, thereby slowing down effects of ageing. Lastly, the insulin levels drop human growth hormone (HGH) increases, which helps facilitate fat burning and muscle gain.
Depending on your IF approach, youre either shortening the eating window each day, or engaging in 24-hour fasts one or more times a week. One of the most popular approaches is the 16:8 method, which is when you fast for an eight-hour window this is often the approach I go for. It is vital to stress that folks use an eating approach that works and is sustainable to them.
The 16:8 MethodThis is also called the Leangains Protocol, and involves skipping breakfast and restricting your daily eating period to 8 hours, such as 1-9pm. Then you fast for 16 hours in between.
The Eat-Stop-EatThis involves fasting for 24 hours, once or twice a week. For example, you may not eat from dinner one day until dinner the next day.
The 5:2 DietWith this method, you consume only 500-600 calories on two non-consecutive days of the week, but eat normally the other 5 days.
As a doctor of nutrition, I will always recommend foods for improved health, including high-fiber, unprocessed, whole foods in all colours and varieties. A mostly plant-based Mediterranean-style diet has been linked to improved health benefits, and in this case, I will suggest this way of life even whilst fasting. Making sure you are nourishing your body as effectively prior to starting your fast will help prevent any feelings of being hangry during the fast.
It is also vital for me to suggest that if you are embarking on an IF journey, staying hydrated is key. Fasting can come with some initial side effects, such as increased hunger, low blood sugar, headache, irritability, dizziness, and fatigue so please embark with caution.
Limiting your dining window does not give you an excuse to binge eat especially on unhealthy foods because you will not see the benefits. Eating unwholesome (read: junk) food in a shortened feeding window on the IF diet may also put you at risk of deficiencies in key nutrients such as calcium, iron, protein, and fiber, all of which are essential for normal biological function.
What you need to do is consume a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, whole-grains, and sufficient lean protein and healthy fat boosting important antioxidants and nutrients which all result in an increased lifespan and reduces the risks of developing lifestyle related chronic diseases.
What is important to emphasise is that the goal of IF is to maintain a healthy amount of calories for your body during the fast so you do not rebound eat.
For those starting out, I suggest implementing a 12-hour fasting/12-hour eating window and building up from there, eventually finding a schedule that works best for you. The most important thing is breaking your fast with fresh, unprocessed, nutrient-dense whole foods, prioritising healthy sources of protein and good fats, all while limiting junk foods that negate any benefits of IF.

Study: History of Cannabis Use Associated with Lower BMI, Greater Exercise Frequency in Those Age 60 and Older – NORML Blog
Boulder, CO: Seniors who use cannabis possess lower BMI (body mass index) and are more likely to frequently engage in exercise than are non-users, according to data published in the American Journal of Health and Behavior.
Researchers with the University of Colorado at Boulder measured differences in BMI and exercise behavior in 28 cannabis consumers and 136 matched controls who participated in an eight-week exercise intervention trial. All of the subject in the study were age 60 or older.
Authors reported: Results of this analysis indicated that compared to older adult non-users, older adult cannabis users had lower BMI at the beginning of an exercise intervention study, engaged in more weekly exercise days during the intervention, and were engaging in more exercise-related activities at the conclusion of the intervention. Although preliminary, these findings suggest that it may be easier for older adults who endorse using cannabis to increase and maintain their exercise behavior, potentially because cannabis users have lower body weight than their non-using peers. At minimum, the evidence suggests that cannabis use does not hinder older adults ability to engage in physical activity, to participate in a supervised exercise program, or to increase their fitness as a result of physical activity.
The findings that cannabis consumers are more likely than non-users to possess lower BMI and engage in regular physical activity are consistent with several other studies, such as those here, here, and here.
Full text of the study, Exercise intervention outcomes with cannabis users and nonusers aged 60 and older, appears in the American Journal of Health and Behavior.

Be extra cautious of your pet during the summer heat – Victoria Advocate
With the temperatures already in the upper 90s, the sweltering summer is beginning. It is important to think about your pets ability to tolerate the scorching heat.
In order to protect your pet from the heat always provide plenty of fresh, cool and clean water. Provide fresh water on a daily basis. Make sure that the water cannot be tipped over and spilled. It is imperative that your pet stays well hydrated.
You may even consider carrying a bottle of water in case your pet needs to rehydrate during their daily exercise routine. Take your dogs for their walks early in the morning or late in the evening when it is cooler.
Keep in mind that your pet is wearing an extra layer, therefore, they are much warmer than you are. If for some reason your pet suddenly stops or sits while walking or exercising, it may be time to take a break. You may need to tailor your exercise program for each pet on an individual basis, depending on age, body condition and coat type.
Make sure you walk your dogs on grass, rather than hot pavement to prevent burning of their paws. You can always provide your dogs with a swimming pool to cool off in.
Grooming your pets frequently to remove excess hair and mats is beneficial in keeping them cool and comfortable. It is also very important to provide access to shade at all times when your pet is outdoors.
There are some key signs that you need to look for which may indicate your pet has overheated. These include severe panting that does not stop even after a period of rest, excessive drooling, increased body temperature (normal is up to 102.5F), rapid heart rate, vomiting, passing bloody or tarry stool, muscle tremors, seizures, passing out, and lack of coordination.
If your pet is showing mild signs of heat stress, which include panting, drooling, and increased body temperature it is best to bring them inside and allow them to calm down and cool off.
After 20 minutes if there is no improvement, a cool water bath (not cold water) can be given to help lower the core body temperature and rubbing alcohol can be placed on the foot pads to assist with cooling.
If your dog is experiencing severe clinical signs, such as passing bloody stools, seizures, muscle tremors, loss of consciousness, lack of coordination, etc you will need to seek veterinary attention immediately. Without medical attention your pet could experience serious organ damage and potentially deadly systemic illness.
The best treatment for heat stress or stroke is prevention. Make sure you have taken all possible precautions during the summer to protect your pet.
Animals have much fewer sweat glands than their human counterparts do. Their sweat glands are found primarily on the paws and nose. Pets most susceptible to heat stroke are animals with short noses, longer or thicker hair, and younger or older animals.
Every pet is unique and can tolerate time outside differently. If your pet spends most of its time indoors, then prolonged periods of outdoor activity will make your pet more susceptible to heat stroke.

David Freeman, national program manager of Life Time's Alpha program, hosted the latest session from his home. The strength interval workout will challenge you to use your muscles and work as hard as possible in short bursts of effort.
You'll need a kettlebell and a jump rope for the seriesbut you can get by with a dumbbell or a loaded backpack, and jump in place if you don't have a rope or room to jump. If you want to track your progress at a certain point in the workout, grab a pen and notebook (or just your notes app on your phone) to record your reps.
Freeman says the session will require lots of energy and enthusiasm, and his personal goal is to turn his light grey t-shirt dark with sweatyou should go for that type of effort, too.
His theme for the session is L.I.F.E., an acronym that stands for Love Inspire Forgive Engage. These are all principles that Freeman hopes to see people who take on his workouts apply to their lives outside their fitness routines: Go forward with love, inspire those around you with positive behavior, forgive those around you for their mistakes, and engage those around you in conversation to help to understand their perspectives.
