Balanced diet tips: Include a variety of vegetables and fruits in your diet
Eat a balanced meal including all food groups is something that health experts recommend regularly. Eating calorie-restrictive diets or diets which restrict on limiting intake of food groups like fats or carbs are not sustainable in nature. They may help you lose weight quickly, but may put you at risk of nutritional deficiencies and may also lead to side effects like too much cravings or irritability and mood swings. In order to feel healthy, fit and happy, it is important to consume a balanced diet which includes proteins, carbs, fats and fibre equally.
When you consume a balanced diet, it can help you lose weight and maintain your target weight. A balanced and nourishing diet enables your body to perform all functions effectively and helps you be disease-free.
Celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar's 3:2:1 proportion of eating meals involves filling half of your plate with rice, roti or millets, 35% of it with dal/sabzi or meat, and 15% of with papad/pickle/salad/curd etc.
This pattern of eating may seem to technical, but when applied it in real time, you will realise that it is the age-old pattern of eating in a way which allows for maximum nutrients and enhances taste. "In simpler words - maintain a 3:2:1 ration between grains: dal/sabzi: pickle/salad/curd," Diwekar writes in her Instagram post, while sharing the benefits of eating in this proportion.

Nutritionist Nmami Agarwal, on the other hand, share another interesting way of eating a balanced diet. Ask her about should a plate look for a balanced meal and she says, "Fill half of your plate with vegetables, a little over a quarter of the plate with whole grains and 1/4th of plate with protein."

HEALTH AND FITNESS: The case of the missing beach body – Aiken Standard
![](https://www.dgw.tv/wp-content/themes/elegant-brit-b/images/caticon.gif)
![](https://www.dgw.tv/wp-content/themes/elegant-brit-b/images/comicon.gif)
Now that summer has arrived you may have noticed that your eating and exercise habits over the past several months (or years!) havent been kind to your body. For some people this comes as a surprise, and they wonder where their beach body from last summer went. For others, their beach body may be long gone, but they are motivated to get back in shape now.
Obviously, this will mean making changes to what you eat and your exercise habits. If you want to lose 510 pounds and get back in shape, this means small changes to your diet and focus on exercise designed to meet your fitness goals. If you have more significant weight to lose you will need a stricter diet and an exercise program that will help you lose fat while building your strength, endurance, and flexibility.
While diet and exercise can help you get back in shape, staying in shape requires making lasting behavior changes. Here are some questions that will help you find your missing beach body now and not lose it again in the future.
Many people can identify a time in their life when their lifestyle changed and weight gain began. Commonly, this is getting married, starting a new job or having children. Other people notice that they have gained weight, but cant point to any specific reason why. In both cases, healthy eating and exercise routines get replaced with other less beneficial habits. The result for most people is gaining weight and losing fitness, either quickly or more slowly over years. Understanding what caused these changes is critical for reversing them.
The longer you have been inactive and eating poorly, the longer you have been developing these unhealthy habits. The consequence is that it will be more challenging to undo the damage these habits have caused and teach yourself new habits that are consistent with better health. Your task is relatively easy if you have just gained a few pounds since last summer. Trying to reverse years or decades of inactivity and unhealthy eating is a bigger challenge, but one you simply must take on.
The environment has a huge impact on our health, largely through influencing our activity and eating behaviors. In many cases, weight gain may be at least partly a consequence of where we spend our time. For example, a new job that involves long commutes by car and workdays spent sitting can make gaining weight almost inevitable. Quitting that job probably isnt reasonable, but knowing how it has affected your health allows you to focus your efforts on increasing your activity outside of work. For many women (and men, too), weight gain occurs after graduating from college, getting married, and having children. While there are many contributing lifestyle factors in this case, the change from an active college campus to a more sedentary environment certainly plays a role.
Once you figure out when and where you last saw your beach body you will have an idea of what you need to do to get it back. Keep in mind that the type of behavior changes you need to make to lose weight and get back in shape are difficult and will take time to adopt. While you shouldnt expect any miracles in the next month or two, developing healthy eating and activity habits can have a miraculous effect on your weight, your health, and how you feel in the years to come.

Supports the investigation of TransCon hGH for treatment of growth hormone deficiency in the pediatric population from 6 months to less than 18 years of age
Company on track to submit European marketing application in third quarter 2020
No additional studies required
COPENHAGEN, Denmark, July 06, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Ascendis Pharma A/S(Nasdaq: ASND), a biopharmaceutical company that utilizes its innovative TransCon technologies to address unmet medical needs, today announced that it received a positive opinion from the Paediatric Committee (PDCO) of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) on its agreement with the proposed Paediatric Investigation Plan (PIP) for TransCon hGH (lonapegsomatropin), an investigational long-acting once-weekly prodrug of somatropin (human growth hormone or hGH) in development for treatment of growth hormone deficiency (GHD). The positive opinion is based on the non-clinical safety program, as well as data from the three phase 3 clinical trials provided to PDCO from the ongoing TransCon hGH development program, which will be included in the upcoming Marketing Authorisation Application (MAA).
The PIP opinion from PDCO endorsed the TransCon hGH program as acceptable for assessment of safety and efficacy for the use of TransCon hGH as a treatment for growth hormone deficiency in children from 6 months to less than 18 years of age, mirroring the population covered by the studies conducted in the program.
We are delighted to receive the positive opinion from PDCO regarding our PIP, which is based on a comprehensive data package from our non-clinical and clinical development program for TransCon hGH. As planned, we will move forward with our marketing application submission in Europe this quarter, said Dana Pizzuti, M.D., Ascendis Pharmas Senior Vice President of Development Operations. We believe this opinion recognizes the unique attributes of TransCon hGH and how our TransCon technology enables the long-acting release of unmodified somatropin which provides a predictable mode of action without changing the expected safety profile. We are very pleased with our PDCO discussions as the approval of our PIP reflects to our knowledge the first time PDCO has concluded that a clinical development program for a long acting growth hormone treatment is appropriate to support the clinical development in children.
Ascendis submitted a Biologics License Application for TransCon hGH for the treatment of pediatric GHD to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in June 2020, and the company recently conducted productive meetings with European regulatory personnel, including a pre-submission meeting with EMA and meetings with the rapporteur and co-rapporteur.
About the Paediatric Committee (PDCO)
The Paediatric Committee (PDCO) is the European Medicines Agency's (EMA) scientific committee responsible for activities on medicines for children and to support the development of such medicines in the European Union by providing scientific expertise and defining paediatric needs.
About the Paediatric Investigation Plan (PIP)
A paediatric investigation plan (PIP) is a development plan aimed at ensuring that the necessary data are obtained through studies in children, to support the authorisation of a medicine for children. All applications for marketing authorisation for new medicines have to include the results of studies as described in an agreed PIP, unless the medicine is exempt because of a deferral or waiver. This requirement also applies when a marketing-authorisation holder wants to add a new indication, pharmaceutical form or route of administration for a medicine that is already authorised and covered by intellectual property rights.
About TransCon Technology
TransCon refers to transient conjugation. The proprietary TransCon platform is an innovative technology designed to create new therapies that optimize therapeutic effect, including efficacy, safety and dosing frequency. TransCon molecules have three components: an unmodified parent drug, an inert carrier that protects it, and a linker that temporarily binds the two. When bound, the carrier inactivates and shields the parent drug from clearance. When injected into the body, physiologic conditions (e.g., pH and temperature) initiate the release of the active, unmodified parent drug in a predictable manner. Because the parent drug is unmodified, its original mode of action may be maintained. TransCon technology is designed to be applied broadly to a protein, peptide or small molecule in multiple therapeutic areas, and to be used systemically or locally.
About Pediatric Growth Hormone Deficiency (GHD)
Pediatric GHD is a serious orphan disease caused when the pituitary gland does not produce enough growth hormone. Children with GHD are not only characterized by short stature, but they also may experience metabolic abnormalities, psychosocial challenges and poor quality of life.
For decades, the standard of care for GHD has been a daily subcutaneous injection of hGH, which improves growth and overall endocrine health.

Carl Frampton: I fear that drugs use in boxing could be rife and something needs to be done about it – Belfast Telegraph
![](https://www.dgw.tv/wp-content/themes/elegant-brit-b/images/caticon.gif)
![](https://www.dgw.tv/wp-content/themes/elegant-brit-b/images/comicon.gif)
It has been a tough enough time for boxing with the whole coronavirus lockdown and then Jarrell Miller comes along to remind us about the curse of drugs within the sport.
iller missed out on a world heavyweight title fight with Anthony Joshua last year after he tested positive for the performance-enhancing drugs GW1516, HGH and IPO. He was to have made his return to the ring this month but has tested positive for GW1516 again, though he is adamant that he did not take the substance on purpose.
Fans and fighters will make their own minds up about whether he is guilty or not of taking it on purpose, but the fact remains that it was found in his system. In my opinion, he should have been chucked out of the sport after last year's positive tests and one thing I will always take pride in when my career is over is that I gave my all doing it the right away, being clean.
This latest controversy as well as the disconcerting rumours I hear about some gyms the States sadly leads me to have a real fear that the use of performance-enhancing drugs is worse than ever in boxing - even though there has been more testing.
Let's be honest, when you see a fighter go from being a light hitter with few knockouts or stoppages to someone who is rocking fighters to their bootstraps, it does raise eyebrows.
Unfortunately, the rumour mill in boxing is growing all the time about who is possibly using PEDs and even four or five years ago that wouldn't have been the case. It seems there is a growing culture that reflects what happened in cycling and athletics - that you have to take them because everyone else is. That's a crying shame and it's not the case, you can't tar every fighter with the same brush but there is a real concern that more and more boxers may be getting away with PED use. That's why it was such a mistake by the World Anti-Doping Association to announce during lockdown that they were not doing any testing. That was just a green light for the cheats to get on the gear!
I have recently filled out my latest form for UKAD to tell them about my whereabouts for the next three months so they can test me whenever they want and it should be the same for every fighter.
I still don't believe the governing bodies are taking the whole issue of drug use seriously enough and you do wonder if it will take a tragedy for those in authority to raise their game.
The problem in America is that they have different rules in each State and that needs to change immediately because the PED curse has to be crushed.
I don't know how anyone can cheat by using the drugs and then gain any sort of satisfaction from winning a fight when they know that they've been juiced to the eyeballs. But it seems that temptation to cheat to earn a living is just too great for some.
Our sport really needs to protect its reputation and be ruthless with PED cheats - they have to be kicked out. Miller is appealing his latest positive test but if that fails then that has to be the end of his ring career.
If, on the other hand, he is given another chance, it sends a signal that it's worth taking the risk of cheating in a sport in which men and women can be maimed for life or killed.

What is intermittent fasting and what to actually eat while intermittent fasting – Lifestyle Asia
![](https://www.dgw.tv/wp-content/themes/elegant-brit-b/images/caticon.gif)
![](https://www.dgw.tv/wp-content/themes/elegant-brit-b/images/comicon.gif)
Intermittent fasting is one of the top lifestyle trends this year not only because we came out of COVID-19 looking a little chubbier and tubbier, but also because it has proven results with (relatively) little effort required. Nevertheless, as with all diets (and diet fads), its important to be properly informed before embarking on a journey of changing your eating habits.
Here, Dr Priya Khorana gives us the ultimate low-down on intermittent fasting, from the perspective of someone who really knows a thing or two about this stuff. Read on, take note, and decide for yourself if youre ready to (stomach) rumble.
Intermittent fasting (IF) is not a diet. It is a timed approach to eating, and unlike a restricted fad diet, it does not specify what foods a person should eat or avoid. To put simply; IF does not change what you eat, it changes when you eat.
It may have some health benefits, including weight loss and improved insulin sensitivity, but it is not suitable for everyone and should be done with careful consideration. People with advanced diabetes or who are on medications for diabetes, people with a history of eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia, and pregnant or breastfeeding women should not attempt intermittent fasting unless under the close supervision of a physician who can monitor them.
Having said that, there are some evidence-based benefits of IF. In men, it has shown to reduce insulin resistance and lower blood sugar levels (and thereby reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes). It has also been shown to reduce oxidative damage and inflammation, thereby slowing down the effects of ageing. Lastly, the insulin levels drop human growth hormone (HGH) increases, which helps facilitate fat burning and muscle gain.
Depending on your IF approach, youre either shortening the eating window each day or engaging in 24-hour fasts one or more times a week. One of the most popular approaches is the 16:8 method, which is when you fast for an eight-hour window this is often the approach I go for. It is vital to stress that folks use an eating approach that works and is sustainable to them.
The 16:8 MethodThis is also called the Leangains Protocol and involves skipping breakfast and restricting your daily eating period to 8 hours, such as 1-9:00 pm. Then you fast for 16 hours in between.
The Eat-Stop-EatThis involves fasting for 24 hours, once or twice a week. For example, you may not eat from dinner one day until dinner the next day.
The 5:2 DietWith this method, you consume only 500-600 calories on two non-consecutive days of the week but eat normally the other 5 days.
As a doctor of nutrition, I will always recommend foods for improved health, including high-fibre, unprocessed, whole foods in all colours and varieties. A mostly plant-based Mediterranean-style diet has been linked to improved health benefits, and in this case, I will suggest this way of life even whilst fasting. Making sure you are nourishing your body as effectively prior to starting your fast will help prevent any feelings of being hangry during the fast.
It is also vital for me to suggest that if you are embarking on an IF journey, staying hydrated is key. Fasting can come with some initial side effects, such as increased hunger, low blood sugar, headache, irritability, dizziness, and fatigue so please embark with caution.
Limiting your dining window does not give you an excuse to binge eat especially on unhealthy foods because you will not see the benefits. Eating unwholesome (read: junk) food in a shortened feeding window on the IF diet may also put you at risk of deficiencies in key nutrients such as calcium, iron, protein, and fibre, all of which are essential for normal biological function.
What you need to do is consume a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, whole-grains, and sufficient lean protein and healthy fat boosting important antioxidants and nutrients which all result in an increased lifespan and reduces the risks of developing lifestyle-related chronic diseases.
What is important to emphasise is that the goal of IF is to maintain a healthy amount of calories for your body during the fast so you do not rebound eat.
For those starting out, I suggest implementing a 12-hour fasting/12-hour eating window and building up from there, eventually finding a schedule that works best for you. The most important thing is breaking your fast with fresh, unprocessed, nutrient-dense whole foods, prioritising healthy sources of protein and good fats, all while limiting junk foods that negate any benefits of IF.

Having a good start to the day is all about waking up on the right side of the bed. But what about if, when you place your feet on the ground for the first time in the morning, you're met with excruciating pain?
The long-term repercussions that being housebound might have on our health are still being evaluated. And one surprising, and underrated, problem is how being at home for hours on end can impact our foot health.
A sedentary lifestyle, weight gain and loss of stretching gives rise to foot stiffness and plantar fasciitis
Dr Harpal Jadeja
As Dr Harpal Jadeja, consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Medcare Orthopaedics and Spine Hospital, puts it: We use our feet every day to get us around without thinking about them. They bear our weight, keep our balance and adapt to uneven surfaces, helping us move around and engage in day-to-day activities and sports. Despite the vital role they play, our feet, unfortunately, remain neglected until we feel pain and need relief.
According to Dr Jadeja, being homebound for months on end is having an impact on our feet, both in positive and negative ways.
By staying indoors, we have reduced our walking and weight-bearing activities. On one hand, this helps in the case of painful conditions like bunions and heel pain, he says. It also reduces the risk of foot-related injuries like sprains and fractures.
However, it can also lead to problems in the long run. Inactivity over a period of time can increase body weight which can lead to more degenerative changes in the weight-bearing joints, says Dr Jadeja. "Staying indoors also increases domestic chores such as cooking and washing dishes that require standing for a prolonged period. This may aggravate heel pain from plantar fasciitis."
Dr Prabodhan Pravin Potdar, specialist orthopaedics at Burjeel Day Surgery Centre, Al Reem Island, adds that there are many ways our feet are affected by the isolation period.
Lack of space around the house can lead to toe injuries. Meanwhile, a sedentary lifestyle, weight gain and loss of stretching gives rise to foot stiffness and plantar fasciitis.
According to both doctors, heel pain, like that caused by plantar fasciitis, is one of the most common foot complaints at the moment.
It occurs when the plantar fascia, a thick band of protective tissue attached to the heel bone that fans out to the toes, is partially stretched or torn, leading to an inflammation of the tissue.
Tiles do not offer significant grip and the chances of having micro tears in the plantar fascia are quite high
Dr Prabodhan Pravin Potdar
Some of the most common causes of the condition are excessive activity, inactivity and sudden increase in weight over a short period of time. "It's ironic," says Dr Potdar, "because doing too much as well as doing too little might lead to this condition." And the prolonged isolation period may not be helping.
According to him, walking barefoot on hard tiles around the house contributes to the issue. Tiles do not offer significant grip and the chances of having micro tears in the plantar fascia are quite high, he says.
It can all lead to symptoms like a sharp, throbbing pain in the morning when one first places their feet on the floor. This pain might gradually improve with movement over the day. Other symptoms of the condition include a constant ache and stiffness of the foot, and swelling around the heel and sole.
Dr Potdar says wearing indoor footwear that has a firm grip can help. Carpeting also helps if it is throughout the house. Other treatments for plantar fasciitis include using a hot compress to increase blood flow to the area and enhance the healing of the micro tears. Stretching also helps, both from physiotherapy and from certain yoga positions.
"Avoid jumping or running during these episodes, and weight reduction by dietary means can also help. Visiting an orthopaedic surgeon is essential to confirm diagnosis since other less common conditions may present similarly."
Dr Jadeja recommends also having adequate rest during this period. "This is one thing that that will help many painful conditions of the foot and ankle, especially where injury and inflammation is concerned. Massage is also recommended."
If the pain persists, contact your doctor. When it comes to plantar fasciitis, physiotherapy and surgery may have to be recommended.
Finally, even as restrictions ease and more people get back to their normal lives, doctors recommend exercising precaution. Individuals getting back to active lifestyles after periods of inactivity run the risk of sustaining stress fractures or acute tendinitis, says Potdar.
Always better to be safe than sorry.

Exclusive: Taapsee Pannu’s Nutritionist shares about acid reflux and the RIGHT way to treat it – PINKVILLA

Taapsee Pannu's Nutritionist Munmun Ganeriwal has shared important details about one of the common health issues called acid reflux.
Acid reflux is one of the common ailments that many people across the world suffer from. It happens when contents from our stomach move upwards in our esophagus. If the signs of acid reflux persist more than twice a week, then it means you may have a condition called gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It is very important to treat it as it can lead to other health complications. Heartburn, sour or bitter taste, difficulty swallowing, breathing issues, at the back of the mouth, bloating, dysphagia, burping, hiccups, nausea, weight loss, wheezing, dry cough and hoarseness are the common signs.
We asked Taapsee Pannu's Nutritionist Munmun Ganeriwal who is a Nutrition and Lifestyle Consultant, and Founder- Yuktahaar about acid reflux in detail and simple lifestyle changes to deal with it. She said, "The problem of acid reflux or heartburn is becoming more and more common. In my practice, I have realized that most people dont consider it a serious issue and hence, without thinking much, they pop an antacid and go about their day as usual. Until they realize that popping pills isnt helping in the long term and acid reflux no matter how insignificant an ailment it appears to be, does affect the overall quality of life."
"When I started working with Taapsee Pannu a few years back on her diet, getting to know how to deal with her acidity was one of the priorities for her. And why not? For an actress who is busy working round the clock, travels across time zones threw in, having to deal with the uncomfortable burning sensation from an acidic reflux every now and then would most certainly make life pretty difficult."
"Over-the-counter (OTC) medicines like Protein Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) that reduce your body's production of acid are great for symptom management, but long-term use of acid-suppressing medications can lead to nutrient deficiencies and increase your risk of food sensitivities/ intolerances, serious gut infections, mood imbalances like depression, anxiety and so on."
"Resorting to an antacid or acid-suppressing medication is like taking the batteries out of a beeping smoke detector and just wishing that all will be well. It may help with symptoms suppression, but the problem is far from being fixed by going this route. For digestive issues, we need to identify and work on root cause factors if achieving long term relief is the goal."
"Just within a few months of gut balancing protocol, Taapsees chronic acidity issue was resolved and like any other concerned daughter, she also got her mom to sign up with me so that we can work on her gut health too. In fact, during our recent Instagram live conversation, we discussed the issue of acid reflux in brief so that her fans and followers could benefit from it. Today, I am sharing my list of five major Dos and Donts for stomach acidity that both Taapsee and her mom continue to follow till today."
DOS AND DONTS by Nutritionist Munmun Ganeriwal:
DONT- Do not skip meals or have long meal gaps
DO- Make sure you have planned your meals & eat every 2-3 hours
HERES WHY- It is assumed that acid reflux is caused by overactive or high stomach acid levels but paradoxically, more often than not, it is due to not having enough stomach acid. When acid levels are low, food gets into the stomach but isnt fully broken down. Decreased digestion causes fermentation of food, gas production and starts pushing through the lower oesophageal sphincter (LES), causing acid reflux. One of the best ways to ensure optimal stomach acid production is to eat every 2-3 hours because every time you don't eat for long hours, the body produces less stomach acid leading to heartburn symptoms and conditions like GERD.
DONT- Do not eat till you are stuffed
DO- Eat only till you feel light and comfortable. A good way to begin is to eat five spoons lesser than you would have.
HERES WHY- Large quantities of food distend the stomach causing the valve (LES valve) between the stomach and food pipe to not close properly. This allows the acid in your stomach to travel upward. Remember the antacid TV ad of son-in-law overeating only to get nausea and acidity later?
DONT- Do not eat close to bedtime
DO- Eat your last meal of the day 2-3 hours before you go to bed
HERES WHY- Lying down soon after you eat triggers the backflow of acidic stomach contents into your food pipe causing heartburn and acidity.
DONT- Do not be deprived of sleep
DO- Make sure you get restful sleep for 7-8 hours.
HERES WHY- Sleeplessness can cause the valve between the stomach & food pipe to function improperly, allowing the acid in your stomach to travel upward.
DONT- Do not make friends with chronic stress
DO- Practice deep breathing and relaxation techniques every day
HERES WHY- Chronic stress not only decreases the production of stomach acid but also over activates the sympathetic nervous system that can hamper digestion and lead to acid reflux. Practicing deep breathing techniques will help you relax and cool off the over-activated nervous system.
