Bryce Dallas Howard says she was asked to lose weight while filming ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’and SIGH – Motherly Inc.

If you thought you'd get through this day without screaming into the void, well, think again. In a new interview, the beautiful smoke show and extraordinarily talented actress Bryce Dallas Howard says she was asked to lose weight while filming "Jurassic World Dominion."

Howard was discussing her role in Metroabout her role in Jurassic World: Dominionand what it means for women's representation in action movies. Unfortunately, to filmmakers, it means the same thing as women's representation in any form of media or Hollywood production.

"What being in this third film allowedhow do I say this, how do I say this, how do I say this[Ive] been asked to not use my natural body in cinema."

*Record scratch*

WHAT?! What does that even mean? If ever there was a time to deeply sigh, close our eyes, and pinch the bridge of our nose, now is that time.

Howard says that the director of the movie, Colin Trevorrow, came to her defense.

"On the third movie, it was actually because there were so many women cast, it was something that Colin felt very strongly about in terms of protecting me," she explains. "The conversation came up again: 'We need to ask Bryce to lose weight.'"

Why. Just...why? It doesn't matter who you are or what you do, if you're a woman you're expected to spend all of your precious, brief time on this earth hating yourself and always finding ways to look thinner, younger, and prettier. Even if you're already beautiful and extremely talented. I'm exhausted just typing about this.

"He was like, 'There are lots of different kinds of women on this planet, and there are lots of different kinds of women in our film,' and I got to do so many stunts that wouldnt have been possible if I had been dieting," she says.

And she's right! Because bodies need carbs, sugar, and protein and diets are unsustainable. Which Howard knows, and advocated for herself alongside her director.

"So Im really thrilled [at] all the action I got to do, and I got to do it with my body. She was at her maximum strength, and I hope it is just yet another indication of whats possible."

Earlier this year, Melanie Lynskey revealed she was similarly told to lose weight while filming the amazing Showtime thriller, "Yellowjackets" by the show's producers.

"They were asking me, 'What do you plan to do? Im sure the producers will get you a trainer. Theyd love to help you with this.'"

Luckily, she was able to shoot down the idea that people would only want to watch her in the show if she were thinner.

I did find it important that this character is just comfortable and sexual and not thinking or talking about it, because I want women to be able to watch it and be like, Wow, she looks like me and nobodys saying shes the fat one. That representation is important," she said.

Part of fighting the patriarchy is refusing to submit to the patriarchal beauty standards that demand women take up less space. Personally, I couldn't imagine willingly sharing any part of my life with men who wanted me to look a certain waylet alone work for thembut at least there are women like Bryce Dallas Howard and Melanie Lynskey who refuse to starve and contort themselves for their work.
